Haven't lost in a December visit there since 1952, 2 draws (2005 and 2015) and a 3-0 win (1966). :)

Kamara error and then it is all on Cash, Konsa pointing that he must cover Gordon - Cash placing himself in no mans land as usual - he will always cost us. said in the pre match thread: dont play Cash and dont leak early - then again this us and has been for long time, we can still come back and we often do.

Would take Cash off and put Ollie on. Digne can play a half as a left sided CB I'm sure so three at the back as Newcastle seem fairly happy to sit on the 1-0 so I still think we could carve out some decent chances although it's a very difficult task now to get anything.

I don't think it was as intentional as the comms are saying but Duran didn't really make a big effort to stop his foot landing on Schar let's be honest so he's giving a chance for the ref to send off off and he'll have to learn from it as you fancy Ollie to get going again with the three starts he'll get now.

Cash was distracted for thr goal by the overlapping Lewis who McGinn should have been marking, but was also way too far off Gordon for the shot.  Duran was stupid and it could have been avoided.  We have to have someone up top to hold the ball up.  Take Tielemans or Onana off and put Ollie on.  Move Rogers to the right 4-4-1.

Looking at the Duran sending off again, it's just a stupid decision by Duran. We were really in this game before the sending off.

I’ve absolutely no problem with Duran being angry at being sent off, none at all. He’s 21 years old and plays with his heart on his sleeve and he’ll soon learn the standard of refereeing in this country is at a very low ebb.
No consistency, no understanding of the game and the application of the laws change from game to game.

Yeah now watching the replay a few times. Its the second one for me. I think duran can move his boot there he has enough time  to do turn it to the side so thw studs dont go on the back. If there was a attempt to move the foot on the second one he may have got away with a yellow

We agree. It’s not debatable. It isn’t. His left foot buckles and slips. He has nowhere to put his right foot and there is no intent. You can tell by Durans reaction which is instantly to see if Schaar is ok. If he’d done it out of anger he wouldn’t have done that so quickly as he would have still been in the heat of the moment.

I'd have said it showed intent to NOT kick hi in the head.

This is a fucking joke.

And yet contact was near his arse...

Rewatching if you see it’s a tangle and he gets a boot in the waist which I think then makes him twist his foot in I think he meant it.  Looked worse than I think it was and there players react - ares don’t - we need to get in the refs faces.  Like when joelotion hit in the face we should be round the red like Roger’s had just had his head taken off.

It’s shit but it works.

I don't think it's a red. What's he supposed to do, levitate over Schar till he's a safe distance away?

Hmm, he made sure he got contact on him. Granted it was his arse. Don't think he can have any complaints. Duran was playing well too up then.

Mountain to climb obviously now but it's a game with plenty of needle so chance of ref evening it up. Joelinton a little bit lucky and Trippier is on a yellow.

Need Watkins on anyway for Tielemans. Both centre backs are annoying me, get Mings on too for Torres.

Watching the replay at half time, it looks as though Duran’s left foot slips before he plants his right foot on Schar’s back. I just don’t think that it is clear enough to be a red card. I know that dangerous play doesn’t have to be deliberate if you are out of control, but he’s only out of control because he’s in a tangle with another player.
Title: Re: Newcastle vs Aston Villa Match Thread

That Red isn’t even debatable. He can be excused the first foot on the defenders thigh, but not the second attempt to climb over him. You can tell by the reaction of both sets of players and our gaffer.

Duran just looked guilty

The replay of that chance Martínez saved - looks like ‘Bruno’ fouls before laying it off.

Also, the replay shows Schaar kicking out at Duran before Duran slips.

I thought VAR was here to prevent this shit.

I hate playing this bunch of fuckers.

Brighton and Leicester at home and West Ham in the cup. Ollie will be loving this as Brighton is a team he has an incredible scoring record so it's all step up for him to confirm himself as our number one striker again very quickly.

It’s 100% a red card, he’s clearly made sure he scrapes his studs down him, twice. Actively harming us over the next few games.

Glad to see so many defending him though. He’s just lucky he hasn’t gone through a bad patch in front of goal.

Watching the red again, are we going to ignore Scharr’s “accidental” flick out to Duran’s bollocks in the lead up? The red is harsh. Yes you could argue he could have pulled his foot away but it’s hardly clearly intent.
Title: Re: Newcastle vs Aston Villa Match Thread

I’ve absolutely no problem with Duran being angry at being sent off, none at all. He’s 21 years old and plays with his heart on his sleeve and he’ll soon learn the standard of refereeing in this country is at a very low ebb.
No consistency, no understanding of the game and the application of the laws change from game to game.

Absolutely right. I love the passion he shows rather than meekly accepting a bad decision by a fucking terrible referee.

With my claret and blue glasses, No red
Looking in slow mow it seemed his right foot was going wide of Schar in real time and that he brought it back to tread on him
Emery just sat there as he went off so I think he also saw that, he also lashed out at something as he went off.
Dodgy defending again, but we can still get something, I hope that does not come back to bite me.

I think the Duran one could go either way, the reason it's annoying is because you just knew Taylor would lean in their favour, as he has repeatedly. For me Joelinton has made 3-4 yellow card challenges and been given the benefit of the doubt, which clearly wasn't an option for Duran.

Totally agree with this comment. If your left foot has buckled are you really thinking of stamping on the Opposition player. Scharr didn't really need to go the floor but when he did at that pace you risk being trod on.

Well a cute team would be aiming every attack at Trippier now. Or going down at any contact Joelinthon makes on them so let's see what happens. We're probably going to need something like that to get anything now.

Ollie on for Tielemans.

Save Youri for Brighton and we'll need Ollie to put in the work rate of two CFs now to get anything here.

Rogers also on the left to have some runs at Trippier.

Don't mind all that, I still think we'll score at some stage.

Just saying how I saw it. I wish I didn’t see it that way but he appears to change the direction of his foot land and the push it forward. He could just as easily landed his his foot to the right or at least try to.

Taking Rogers off is a mistake. He was committing people

The game is lost, protect him for the Brighton game. Short of Newcastle getting 10 game ending injuries we’re not getting back in this.

The ref isn’t corrupt - incompetent maybe - but not corrupt. That’s the sort of bollocks Arsenal fans never shut up about.

I reckon he knows this games gone so he’s resting him for the next

Plan B or Plan C does not involve going down to 10 men with an hour to go against the form team of the division attacking wise

Let's hope he finds some form as he's back in for the next game.

It’s an obvious statement but we simply have to improve defensively. I have no idea what the issue is but it’s killing us, especially away where you have to have some backbone and stick in there. It’s so frustrating as we are fantastic going forward but gift goals every game.

We're likely gonna lose this game 0-3, and it won't be due to tactics or not trying... it'll be a stupid free kick on the edge of the box or a missed tackle on 85 min due to tiredness.

And 'everyone' will say that Newcastle deserve it. 🤢

The sending off was definitely the turning point. Despite being 1 down we were well in the game. It's another shit decision by a ref that has pretty much ruined any chance of us getting back into the game. The curse at Newcastle goes on. We just never seem to get a break up there.

I haven't been any more certain of a defeat this season, I suppose it was nice of Villa to confirm it inside the first two minutes and not put us through the stress we endured at Forest, again. If we can beat Brighton, it's been a very good festive period by our unfestive standards.

The game was over as a contest as soon as Duran got sent off. To reduce a team to ten men, with a 3 game ban you need to be 100% it's a red card. There's no chance you can say with absolute certainty that's a deliberate violent stamp.

Newcastle are a shower of cnuts.
