The big guns stay at home
-
Very happy with that team. Rest the big guns as we have bigger fish to fry
Suprised broggio never made bench. There was even runours he might start
-
Tyrone Mings' last start = 445 days ago.
Boubacar Kamara's last start = 262 days ago.
Emiliano Buendia's last Villa Park start = 536 days ago
-
Jimoh-Aloba? I thought that was a type of body lotion.
-
come on Ty!
-
Palace ( keeper aside ) have gone full strength.
-
Mings and we're winning.
4-0 Villa FTF.
-
Thought McGinn might play, he's had a little more rest having been injured, plus we will need a leader out there.

Mings?
-

4-0 Villa FTF.
You only Mings when you're winning.
-
Big game for leon. Palace gone veey strong which is suprising. They must feel there is a opportunity here for them
-
Thought McGinn might play, he's had a little more rest having been injured, plus we will need a leader out there.
Mings?
Mings what? He hasn't played in 15 months.
-
As that is basically the reserves, it’s still more than decent.
We could really win this cup.
-
Thought McGinn might play, he's had a little more rest having been injured, plus we will need a leader out there.
Mings?
He has to look us in the eye and tell us he's ready.
-
Thought Barkley might play, unless Onana is injured for the weekend.
-
On the BBC, the Live Text is against Preston for some reason. At least Amfy will be happy.
-

The way their season is going they need a win anywhere they can get it.
-

We could really win this cup.
I'm not sure about reserves.
-
Thought McGinn might play, he's had a little more rest having been injured, plus we will need a leader out there.
Mings?
Mings what? He hasn't played in 15 months.
He didn't injure his mouth.
-
It will be interesting with Mings as he barely got chance to play the high line competitively before his injury.
-
Can’t believe he’s throwing it away. I have just parked up and feel like driving back home. Unbelievable selection. Emery just does not rate domestic cups.
-
Drive back home. Save the disappointment mate.
-
Lovely to see Ty play. I think we might get rolled here, but bloody strong second string.
-
Palace much stronger than i expected
-
Tyrone Mings my Lord ....
-
Jimoh-Aloba? I thought that was a type of body lotion.
he'll be all over them
-
🙌 Ty’s back!!! 🎉
-
Given Palace’s selection in last round, absolutely no surprise that they’re strong tonight. Will be tough for us tonight
-
We've started stronger and the bench is weaker than I thought. Not sure how that bench can rescue anything if needed. It looks like we've gone with the thought that Palace would go weak, that we would get it won early and then allow the kids a bit of first team game time. That hasn't happened
-
Unai has been fairly unequivocal - the domestic cups aren't top priority - it's the League and Chumps comp.
Both have the potential to generate the money we need to build.
When we've got a squad of proper first teamers who we can rotate properly, then the Cups might come into view as proper targets, instead of nice to haves - which is what they are at the moment.
That might disappoint traditionalists, but it's our current reality.
-
Maybe we have bigger fish to fry but, in terms of realistically winning a trophy, this one is our best chance. Not sure the bench is strong enough to pull off a win if they are required.
-
Omagh God, great to see Mings starting.
Happy enough with the line-up, fingers crossed we can make it through.
-
Palace will be up for this. Their chance to have some sparkle in a season
Up to the Villa contenders/pretenders/returnees to show what they are worth.
I was unfortunately at the Everton game last year, I hope for all involved that the performance and atmosphere is bette
-
First XI fine. Disappointed with the bench though.
Looks like another bad Holte End night. Last two I’ve sat in here -Stevenage and Everton in the cups.
-
Is Barkley the only senior not to start either tonight or last weekend?
-
Palace gone veey strong which is suprising. They must feel there is a opportunity here for them
There very clearly is.
I've no problem with this, bigger fish to fry and I haven't bought a ticket.
-
Right team choice for the occasion, but looks like it's much higher up Palace's priority list, fielding a pretty much full strength side.
If 3 of our starting 11 weren't working their way back from injury, I'd think we could get something out of this, but I think it's going to be tough. If our name is in the hat for the next round, it will be a bonus.
-
Not surprised with that line up. Emery has been clear where our priorities lie, and given the great start we've had in the CL, and how we haven't been great in the league games right after CL, he was always going to ring the changes for this one.
-

I'm not sure that Unai gave a stuff if Palace went strong or weak, the League Cup is a long way down his list of priorities and he sees it as a chance to give some returning injured players and some people on the fringes a run out.
-
We have a very strong squad now
Mings, Maartsen, Carlos, Kamara, McGinn, Bailey, Buendia, Duran all starting all big guns for me, all could start a league game without any eyebrows raised ( obvs when the come back kids are fit)
this is not Augustinson, Dendonker, Chambers, Olsen
-
First XI fine. Disappointed with the bench though.
Looks like another bad Holte End night. Last two I’ve sat in here -Stevenage and Everton in the cups.
Problem here is that those on the pitch tonight will have a second string mentality, feeling that they are not good enough for Emery’s main aims. This will end very badly special looking at the Palace line up.
-
this is not Augustinson, Dendonker, Chambers, Olsen
This is M&S substitutes...
-
Their manager is desperate for a win. Might save his job.
Our manager, is clearly thinking of the bigger picture. We might have to wait a year or two before we raise a cup over our heads.
Still a decent starting eleven but not good enough for glory.
-
It’s just taken me 7+ hours to drive from Sutton back to the old homestead in East London.
They closed the M25…
Anyway, I am well up for this cup tie after all that and I hope the Villa and Our Ty are buzzing as well 👍
Including our subs.
Young legs off the bench!
-
And I don’t want to hear “The team was good enough to win” because it clearly isn’t and “oh it was an opportunity for them to show what they can do”.
-

A bit over the top.
I'm not convinced it will end badly.
-
Is Barkley the only senior not to start either tonight or last weekend?
I'd imagine he's firmly in the dog house .
Anyway it's clear Emery isn't prioritising this competition , which is understandable
-
And I don’t want to hear “The team was good enough to win” because it clearly isn’t and “oh it was an opportunity for them to show what they can do”.
It’s easily good enough
if they don’t perform it’s down to attitude
-
Expecting a defeat, but there again, we are starting with big Jhon, so there is still hope.
-
I doubt any of them will be flying into tackles tonight
-
Can’t believe he’s throwing it away. I have just parked up and feel like driving back home. Unbelievable selection. Emery just does not rate domestic cups.
Its certainly not the strongest teams but its good to give minutes to a host of players like mings and kamara.
Its obviously low priority foe unai this year and probably understandable sundays a huge game
-
Isn't it great to see Tyrone and Boubacar starting? Excellent stuff and pleased with that line up.
-
Tyrone!
It's going to pens: I can feel it.
We'll lose yet another cup tie at home. :'(
-
Very good, devilla and they have Ned and Diego in there to support Gauci, as well.
Duran, Buendia and SJM to score.
Boubacar back at last to boss the midfield.
Maatsen, Philogene and Bailey are all first team picks, as well, so more goals and heartache in store for CP.
-
God so good to see mings back
-
The camera angle here is awful
-
So 4 4 1 1 ?
-
Buendia again just too slow on the ball.
-
Decent effort Bailey.
-
bound to be game rusty
-
Good effort leon
-
Black Sabbath on the backs of our shirts. Love it.
-
That was a really poor effort by bailey
The bailey from last season buries that
-
Gauci dives over one.
-
That was on Carlos.....left his man.
-
Gauci dives over one.
On reviewing, harsh
-
Gauci dives over one.
On reviewing, harsh
I wouldn't say so, crap defending and even worse goalkeeping. Rubbish.
-
No one want to mark eze? Just leave him wide open. Terrible defending
-
That’s a very good header, but it’s appalling defending.
-
Shit.
-
That's Kamara fucking about and getting caught
-
Also kamara was shit leading up to that goal
-
Mings there.
-
That's Kamara fucking about and getting caught
Sort of. It was very easily recoverable after that point with even vaguely competent defending.
-
Oops, Tyrone, cut that out please.
-
urgh , bloody hell Villa !
-
Th red players on the pitch have the message, this game doesn’t matter.
-
Ah well 29 years
-
So poor there. We could have been 2 down
-
And I don’t want to hear “The team was good enough to win” because it clearly isn’t and “oh it was an opportunity for them to show what they can do”.
It is an opportunity for them to show what they can do. What they can do might be lose to Palace, but it's as good an opportunity as Emery will get to see a lot of those names play in an actual competitive game, against decent opposition. Better to see it now than in March when the injuries have piled up and we've got to use some of them.
-
Also kamara was shit leading up to that goal
Yap caught dithering
-
Gauci is having a bit of a mare here.
-
no excuse to keep giving it away
-
Shouldnt gauci be catching that?
-
Must admit Palace have put out a significantly stronger team than I was expecting from them.
Didn't think they'd be risking likes of Eze and Guehi when they have Wolves away on Saturday.
-
Thus far - unsurprisingly - Mings and Kamara both look really rusty. Gauci has been all over the shop, too.
On the bright side, off goes Eze.
-
Must admit Palace have put out a significantly stronger team than I was expecting from them.
Didn't think they'd be risking likes of Eze and Guehi when they have Wolves away on Saturday.
Not looking the best decision by them on 17 minutes.
-
Must admit Palace have put out a significantly stronger team than I was expecting from them.
Didn't think they'd be risking likes of Eze and Guehi when they have Wolves away on Saturday.
And now Eze goes off injured.
-
Didn't think they'd be risking likes of Eze and Guehi when they have Wolves away on Saturday.
Playing your better players into form against another team's reserves isn't always the worst idea in the world though.
-
Eze down injured, that will teach them
-
I think we need to can the playing it out from the back without Emi and Pau's distribution chops
-
Blimey this is very sloppy.
-
Didn't think they'd be risking likes of Eze and Guehi when they have Wolves away on Saturday.
Playing your better players into form against another team's reserves isn't always the worst idea in the world though.
It is when they get injured
-
FFS Bailey. When is he going to stop being utterly shit?
-
Fuck me, another completely free header for them.
-
We could be three down with better finishing from them
-
wonder if john and leon know the season started over 2 months ago.
-
Squad not as strong as first thought
-
Scorchioooo and all that.
Duran
-
bouba is great
-
JD!
-
As inevitable as death and taxes…
-
Fortunate there. Very easy to run through.
-
Duran really is absolutely deadly.
-
Yesssssssss duran !!!
-
Get in Jhon!!
-
Yesss that's more like it!
-
Great strike big Jhon
-
Great work by leon
-
Well done Leon, good finish JD.
-
Lovely pass from Bouba.
-
Get in, lovely ball to Bailey by Kamara
-
Palace have only really changed their keeper...
...and it shows...
-
full strength for palace is biting them in the cock
-
Duran really is absolutely deadly.
Except from 8 yards out last Saturday......
-
Duran really is absolutely deadly.

???
-
Now Wharton injured , silly silly manager going full strength
-
Palace have only really changed their keeper...n
...and it shows...
Palace have only really changed their keeper...
...and it shows...
Palace have only really changed their keeper...
...and it shows...
And they are going to regret it
-
What a ball from kamara to bailey though
-
Brilliant to have Kamara back isn't it? Class for the goal with the interception and then great pass for Bailey.
-
Im with my Palace supporting father in law and when Kamada came on , he says fucking lightweight this player .. And yes he was .
-
Newcastle 2-0 up vs chelsea
Manure beating leicester
-
Yes
Sssssssss
(Our Jhon)

Nice work
-
Eze and now Wharton off crocked.
Not looking the best idea now, is it?
-
Didnt realise olsen was in palaces goal tonight 🤪
-
Two lovely forward passes by Kamara so far. Great to have him back. I think he's woken up since the Palace goal.
-
Just tuning in… how is it going? How’s Mings looking?
-
Jaden needs to get in the game. He has been anonymous
-
fuckin hell joe come off your fucking line
-
Eze and now Wharton off crocked.
Not looking the best idea now, is it?
Bizarre he started both. Guess they wanted to continue the momentum from beating Spurs but they could easily lose to Wolves with those two out.
We should go on and win this now.
-
Well done ty!!
Gauci pants there
-
Lovely to see us back in it, and JD scoring.
-
fuckin hell joe come off your fucking line
Think that what Mings told him
-
Villa park more packed than i thought it would be
-
You would think Gauci training with the worlds no 1 would know how to catch and come off his line
-
Commentator about Mings "Opened his legs, good tackle". Oooh err missus.
-
And I don’t want to hear “The team was good enough to win” because it clearly isn’t and “oh it was an opportunity for them to show what they can do”.
OK Dad.
-
Kamara is just so good
-
We look a real mess at the back tonight
Very nervy
-
Eze and now Wharton off crocked.
Not looking the best idea now, is it?
Indeed
-
Leicester (reserves) get 1 back against Man U.
-
Gauchi is having a nervy debut
-
Kamara that was just filth
-
A few more games and Kamara and Youri will partner up over the majority I reckon. Onana will need to fight for his place soon.
-
Kamara is just so good
Commentators are saying his name as Camera. I thought it had the stress on the 2nd syllable?
-
Kamara is just so good
Commentators are saying his name as Camera. I thought it had the stress on the 2nd syllable?
Not in French it doesn't.
-
Kamara that was just filth
??????

Not in French it doesn't.
Ah ok. Every day's a school day!
-
Kamara that was just filth
??????
Did not see that tackle? Pure filth
World class
-
Kamara is just so good
Commentators are saying his name as Camera. I thought it had the stress on the 2nd syllable?
Me too.
-
Gauci is all over the shop.
-
Gauchi having a baptism of fire tonight!
-
Commentator about Mings "Opened his legs, good tackle". Oooh err missus.
David Coleman: ‘Quantorena opened his legs and showed his class’ - Olympics 1976
-
Gaucis been so clumsy tonight
-
Gauci having a mare.
-
Gauchi come on man
-
Gauchi does not inspire confidence. Where's Olsen?
-
Wheey he caught one
-
Great, he’s getting better.
-
Van de ven picks a injury and taken off. Hopefully out of gane vs us
-
Get up Jhon, nothing wrong with you
-
Who's match commentors?
-
Van Der Valk has done his hamstring.
-
Unai is right to single out McGinn...he's been crap this season. Carried on his form from the summer with Scotland.
-
Good effort leon. Thats better more power
-
Bailey having a better game tonight and could've scored a couple times.
-
Better by gauci
Kamaras been best player
Jaden needs to do better think he has been abit disappointing. Gauci looking a mess at times.
Bailey looks lively
Great to see mings back ❤️
-
Ned Mings Kamara all doing well , Ian and Bidace developing some nice stuff too
-
Who's match commentors?
David Edwards is co comms.
-
A few times with Mings and especially Kamara have just been awesome, marvellous to have them back.
-
That’s so good to hear.
Especially as CP have had to use subs in the first half. 👍
-
man city down 2 0 . come on villa get through
-
Philogene and Buendia really not troubling the game much.
-
Unai is right to single out McGinn...he's been crap this season. Carried on his form from the summer with Scotland.
Thats a bit harsh. CM isnt his position anyway. Still not sure what Jaden is meant to be offering
-
Unai is right to single out McGinn...he's been crap this season. Carried on his form from the summer with Scotland.
He was excellent against bologna and has been out injured for a while, chill oot
-
Big strike from Duran...saved.
-
Unai is right to single out McGinn...he's been crap this season. Carried on his form from the summer with Scotland.
He was excellent against bologna and has been out injured for a while, chill oot
He was decent against Bologna...I wouldn't go as far as excellent.
-
A few times with Mings and especially Kamara have just been awesome, marvellous to have them back.
They haven't played a proper game for so long, yet they look the best two players on the pitch.
-
What’s happened to the swagger that Jaden showed for Hull and the England U21’s?
-
Keeping up to date on this one via the Sky Sports app and here and it does not sound like it’s a classic..
-
What’s happened to the swagger that Jaden showed for Hull and the England U21’s?
structure, defensively and offensively.
-
Buendia not the best game so far
-
Buendia not the best game so far
Losing it too many times, physically not strong enough
-
Buendia not the best game so far
Horris injury but not sure he can be at Top6 team regular
-
Buendia not the best game so far
Give it year and I think we'll move him on to a Villareal or something.
-
Crikey, lots of really loose passing.
-
well he could still get the winner
-
So poor this second half
-
Buendia not the best game so far
Hw cant have many complaints at why he isnt starting based on his performance so far tonight
-
Chalobah looks really good. Would have been a good loan signing i think
-
that was close
-
Close
-
Kamara looks like the guy you customised when you took him to the barbers in San Andreas.
-
Buendia losing the ball there almost cost us
-
Bloody sky+ has gone off!
-
Buendia not having a great time.
-
Buendia not the best game so far
Losing it too many times, physically not strong enough
His touch is still sharp but keeps getting dispossessed
-
Bidace 🤦♂️
Great play by maatsen
-
well he didnt play it rght then
-
Buendia not the best game so far
Losing it too many times, physically not strong enough
His touch is still sharp but keeps getting dispossessed
He can't run but insists in running.
-
Is it just me, or is Philogene not very good?
-
Class by maatsen
-
Is it just me, or is Philogene not very good?
No its not just you sam. I dont think he is very good either.
-
jaden light weight
-
Is it just me, or is Philogene not very good?
I've been starting to wonder that
-
It’s been really good to see Tyrone playing so well.
-
Played well against Bayern
Needs to settle in ?
-
Mings standing no shit from our players
-
Is it just me, or is Philogene not very good?
Not at the moment, and I have my doubts, but he needs time. He did put in a really disciplined defensive display against Bayern.
-
ah shit
-
Bollocks
-
Fucking hell, Carlos AGAIN and Gauci nowhere near it.
That's absolutely pathetic.
-
Philogene and Buendia have been awful.
….and the old Carlos is back.
-
shocking Villa
-
A absolutely piss pathetic goal to concede
-
JJ for Buendia?
Oh bollocks.
-
carlos is typical brain dead fuck
-
And who have we got on the bench to turn this around?...
-
Carlos can fuck off in the summer. Im sick of him doing shit like this
-
Fucks sake
-
I wish we’d take these competitions seriously.
-
The thing with Carlos is, he can put in decent performances, but ultimately he then lets you down.
He can't be relied on.
-
Carlos is a liability and Gauchi isn't a Goalkeeper.
-
Liquid football.
-
Bring on Matty Cash
-
Poor play from Carlos again
-
Dreadful from Carlos and awful footwork from Gauci. It wasn’t disguised where that was going.
-
Whatever that stoppage was about palace were ready for us to do exactly that.
-
I would say Jayden, Emi, Ghuci and Carlos havent done themselves any favours
-
That wasnt handball carlos just shite from you
-
It’s really bad goalkeeping as well.
-
get buendia off for JJ or we are done
-
Carlos' concentration seems to wander when he plays against "lower level" opposition.
-
How do we end up with such bad reserve goalkeepers??!!
-
Lets take it to penalties and watch Gauci pull out a Bosnich for us.
-
We’ve got the best goalie in the world anyone would struggle to look good compared to him
But it’s criminal that we haven’t got a proper back up keeper
-
Is it just me, or is Philogene not very good?
The new Andre Green.
-
I appreciate there’s a whole host of changes, but it really looks like it. A really sloppy display.
-
Buendia i think will be sold in summer if his form continues like this
-
get buendia off for JJ or we are done
Yes I think that's the best option.
-
Overall as a squad we are not as good as we think we are. Very insipid performance so far
-
I wish we’d take these competitions seriously.
"My ambition is to win a trophy" Unai Emery 2022
-
Carlos highlighting yet again why he cant be trusted.
-
Leon, what the...
-
Bring on Patterson!
-
Is it just me, or is Philogene not very good?
The new Andre Green.
Think you might be spot on there
-
we are shit at times
-
It never, ever works in the cups when we make so many changes.
-
Brilliant stuff leon 🤦♂️
-
SJM has been poor by his own standards
Gauci looks out of his depth entirely
Philogene and Buendia have been anonymous
Carlos has been shockingly poor, just abysmal.
Bailey has been rotten.
Nedejlkovic has been decent, as has Maatsen, Mings too.
-
This is pretty shocking
-
Unless ollies injured no idea why he wasnt even considered on bench same with rogers
-
I don't want to win this cup until Coca Cola or Benson & Hedges sponsors it.
-
I don't want to win this cup until Coca Cola or Benson & Hedges sponsors it.
Waht about milk ?
-
How can other teams do reserve goalkeepers so much better than we do.
For example Bournemouths reserve GK was pure Gordon Banks, yet ares look like shite
-
I will be disappointed if we do not batter this team in the league.
-
Unless ollies injured no idea why he wasnt even considered on bench same with rogers
Because of the number of games they are going to have to play, and have played already this season.
-
This second half performance has been so poor. Get ramsey and cash on
-
Patty and KY coming on.
-
I’m not really getting the criticism of McGinn. He’s started off a lot of promising breaks that other players have messed up.
-
The sad reality is that football is more about accountancy than silverware nowadays.
If there was a lucrative financial prize on offer here I bet the club would take this cup more seriously.
-
I appreciate there’s a whole host of changes, but it really looks like it. A really sloppy display.
Got to feel for the fans in attendant
-
Glad I didn't go to this .
-
I don't want to win this cup until Coca Cola or Benson & Hedges sponsors it.
I'd also take Anusol and the Chartered Institute of Jeggings Retailers.
-
The poor hole form continues
-
Patty and KY coming on.
Unai just not bothered about even getting to penalties. Disappointing.
-
why dont he cross the bloody ball
-
Bidace has been so poor
-
This is no point in Buendi taking more than 2 steps with the ball....you can't run mate.
-
Philogene WTF was that??
-
Philogene and Buendia have had nights to forget , Ian not far behind
-
Those subs say it all, really.
Also, does anyone else watching (legitimately) on Sky find the stream keeps dying or pausing?
-
JJ is on......Jimoh. Is he a talent?
-
Philogene and Buendia have had nights to forget , Ian not far behind
I think maatsen has been one of our better players. The other two i agree with.
Seems like emerys accepted defeat 3 kids on
-
Anyone know the attendance?
-
Those subs say it all, really.
Also, does anyone else watching (legitimately) on Sky find the stream keeps dying or pausing?
No, just the Villa pausing!
-
Does this ref know what a foul is?
-
We’re going to destroy these now
-
Buendia looked rough and Jaden has been rubbish. Unfortunately, this was not a "get right" game for Bailey either. Mings and Kamara have looked solid, I think.
-
Kaden, Travis, Jimoh, come on, chaps! Do it for The Villa
-
Anyone know the attendance?
That will be classified information
-
Although we've got a "stronger" squad, it looks from this performance that certain combinations just haven't worked tonight.
-
There’s no wonder we haven’t won a trophy for 28 years
we don’t really want to
-
Those subs say it all, really.
Also, does anyone else watching (legitimately) on Sky find the stream keeps dying or pausing?
Good my end. Heard Sky customers watching via and app have had issues.
-
We’re going to destroy these now
Django unhinged.
-
It never, ever works in the cups when we make so many changes.
I concur.
-
That quick free kick sums up the 2nd half performance . Woeful
-
This is shite, although we're having an interesting discussion about the various lunch options available in Solihull town centre.
-
And Lamare
-
Last season we went out to a shit everton team at home and now it looks like we are going out to a shit palace side at home
-
There’s no wonder we haven’t won a trophy for 28 years
we don’t really want to
Yeah I'm disappointed.
Last season I could understand chucking it v Everton as we had a far weaker squad and had just started Europe and coping with the schedule.
This season we're already pretty much through to CL knock outs and in a decent placing for the league so I'd have liked a bit more emphasis on progressing in league cup.
-

This season we're already pretty much through to CL knock outs and in a decent placing for the league so I'd have liked a bit more emphasis on progressing in league cup.
We are not ceetain of CL knocks out at all mate. Still a lot of games and we couls still finish in play offs
-
What kind of pass was that, Maatsen?!?!
-
we've just been really poor.
-
That was pisspoor ian
-
mattsen what was that
really poor tonight most of them
-
Ian that is woeful
-
Beat Spurs at the weekend and this result will quickly be forgotten, if we don’t then…..not good.
-
There’s no wonder we haven’t won a trophy for 28 years
we don’t really want to
Yeah I'm disappointed.

-
Thankfully this shit team wont be anywhere close to what plays vs spurs
How can you only have two shots on target and being losing.
Its really not good enough
-
The performance has reflected our attitude to this game - disinterested. We’ve been disjointed, and just really poor. We need to turn up and make a bit of a statement against Spurs.
-
Glad I never went as well, can't see any different for the FA cup
-
Emery clearly doesn't give a fuck about this competition
-
Unai doesn’t give a flying f@@k about the domestic cups.
Predictable
-
A classic Mings yellow
-
Mings looking knackered now. But 90 mins will do him a world of good
-

Predictable
I don't to be honest with you.
-

Depends on what's happening in the league and CL for is at that point, I'd imagine. They're Emery's priorities. If we somehow manage to fluff up our great start to the CL, then we might take the FA Cup seriously.
-
There is such a disconnect between what the club wants and what the fans want.
There is a huge thirst for a trophy among the fans. We did top 4, can we not try and notch another actual achievement in the club honours? been way too long.
-
Quite, our reserves aren’t good enough to beat mid table sides so this is our reality in this cup. Fair enough, bigger fish to fry.
-
I'm pissed off we keep getting lumbering ourselves with completely useless back up keepers. Gauci is fucking shite.
-
Piss poor this
-
Sounds dreadful
Sympathy to all there
Lets beat them in a couple of weeks time
This poor cup showings is pissing me off, just give up in advance and save the fans some money
-

Yeah i get it but i really do think palace were there for taking. Their best two went off a good opportunity.
But no point being in any competition if we are not aiming to win it. I do hope we take fa cup more seriously
-
Beat Spurs at the weekend and this result will quickly be forgotten, if we don’t then…..not good.
Only thing that’s being forgotten is the desire to win trophies
-
If we don't want to play these games, can't we just say we'll give it a miss this year rather than put in these shit performances every year.
-
Not even trying to fucking score its like we are trying to defend a lead.
-
Unai doesn’t give a flying f@@k about the domestic cups.

I don't to be honest with you.
Get out.

I concur, I equally thirst for a trophy. I hope it is one with massive handles, last seen early 80s.
-
If we don't want to play these games, can't we just say we'll give it a miss this year rather than put in these shit performances every year.
If we aren't going to try to win the domestic cups we might as well charge £10 adults and £1 for kids because it's a waste of everybody's time.
-
Phew, bring on the Champions League
-
£25 to go watch Mings and Kamara train , absolutely woeful .
-
There’s no wonder we haven’t won a trophy for 28 years
we don’t really want to
Yep. Gutted. Wankers.
-
Painful that
-
Backward steps again. Utterly poor
-
We’ve played the last 15 mins like we’re 4-0 down with no chance of getting back into it.
-
That was a load of fucking wank.
-
Well i wont be paying to watch any further carabao cup matches when its clear we dont give a shit.
Next season i reckon villa be lucky if 20k fans turn up if ee get a home tie
-
Another night of hating modern football.
-
Clearly emery has zero interest in this competition and only wanted to get kamara and mings up to speed. Buendia and philogene look awful atm
-
The club obviously doesn't give a shit about domestic cups.
Fans need to stop spending their hard earned money attending.
-
What made you think we’d play a strong side today then?
-
Don’t understand why we had such a poor bench. Understand the starting line up but why nothing at all to bring on?
-
Well i wont be paying to watch any further carabao cup matches when its clear we dont give a shit.
Next season i reckon villa be lucky if 20k fans turn up if ee get a home tie
Yep, first one I’ve missed deliberately and purely because I knew we wouldn’t give a shit.
-
Obviously it was shit, but that's because we weren't trying and didn't care.
-
What made you think we’d play a strong side today then?
It was a strong enough side we just couldn’t be bothered
Apparently domestic trophies aren’t worth winning
-
Emre had no interest in winning this, bigger fish to fry. Thought Kamara and Mings looked ready but Buendia and the young keeper nowhere near. It's a competition worth missing.
-
Philogene was absolutely dreadful. What on earth did we see in him to bust a gut to bring him back?
-
Clearly emery has zero interest in this competition and only wanted to get kamara and mings up to speed. Buendia and philogene look awful atm
Philogene looks like a complete headless chicken. Honestly poor
-
Clearly emery has zero interest in this competition and only wanted to get kamara and mings up to speed. Buendia and philogene look awful atm
I thought it was wrong to give Kamara and Mings the full 90 mins. Both were blowing a gasket for the last 15 mins or so. Instead he brought on a young defender into midfield :o Agreed on Buendia and Philogene sadly
-
What made you think we’d play a strong side today then?
That was a pretty strong side tbh. Putting 3 youngsters on in the last 15 minutes as if we were 4 nil up pretty much summed the motivation up.
-
Much as I love Emery and want him to see out his career with us I would like to see a journo ask him some tough questions for what is a third successive limp exit from this competition.
-
Probably should have watched Ludwig as my girlfriend was suggesting.
Most of the team looked pretty poor apart from Kamara and the three young musketeers who came on at the end.
Not that bothered really. Bigger fish to fry and don’t think we need the extra games.
-
There’s no reason that starting line up could not have won.
A couple poor performances, but it’s good to get Mings, Buendia, Kamara and Kosta game time because we’ll need them later on.
We’ve got to prioritize.
-

Let's be honest, realistically we have/had more chance of winning the Cariabo Cup than the Champions league or the Premier League so why do we choose to not take it seriously.
-
Much as I love Emery and want him to see out his career with us I would like to see a journo ask him some tough questions for what is a third successive limp exit from this competition.
Totally agree.
We're a club starved of trophies, it's not acceptable.
-
I would like us to win whatever we’re in, I really would, but if we went on some mad domestic cup runs and we ballsed up a final league positions people would be going spare that we shouldn’t have prioritised the cups. It’s lose/lose unless we do brilliantly in everything.
I’d personally prioritise getting further/qualifying again for the competition we aren’t guaranteed to be in vs the one we’re in either way until we have the squad (and necessary revenue) to be competing on all fronts.
-
Played it like a preseason game, terrible.
-
Really poor approach
Bench that was never going to make an impact.
If no intention to win be honest, give the tickets at cheap prices and dont rip off the fans.
-
just need some spurzz injuries to make the night better
-
Emre had no interest in winning this, bigger fish to fry. Thought Kamara and Mings looked ready but Buendia and the young keeper nowhere near. It's a competition worth missing.
You’ve Gotta be 35 plus to remember Villa winning a trophy
And you’re on here saying it’s a competition worth missing. what a fucking joke footballs becoming
-

Man utd have won 2 trophies last 2 seasons, what has that done for them?
-
There’s no reason that starting line up could not have won.
FFS!
-
I am gonna be seriously pissed off if we lose to spurs on sunday after that.
-
Mings and Kamara got much needed minutes. Emi was terrible and will be loaned out in Jan. Bailey needs a few weeks out of the side with Philogene or McGinn on the right. Keeper looked dodgy as fuck and the usual Carlos casual pass mistake. All in all, very predictable.
-

Its just things changing mate, it doesn't feel right but it's unfortunately the way. All the money comes from league and champions league so we need to focus on those.
-
A good run out for Kamara and Mings.
-
What made you think we’d play a strong side today then?
wasnt expecting that but would be nice to see them look like footballers
-

Given them trophies?! You know, the whole point of competitive football?
-
Man utd have won 2 trophies last 2 seasons, what has that done for them?
Are you serious?
-
The only way that can be justified is if we beat spurs. Simple as that
-
I get CL is where money is at. But if we are not in it to win trophies whats the point of existing? We need trophies.its already embarrassing enough that blose have won more than us in the last 20 years
-
Missed opportunity, this and and a top 4 finish would be a really successful season for us, Philogene wow!, and our keeper, what was he on?, this should have been taken seriously, still need a couple of top players in come January to push on for the business end of the season, I thought the one positive was Mings, looked very good, getting better.
-
Man utd have won 2 trophies last 2 seasons, what has that done for them?

Very serious
-
The quadruple gone then.
-
Heroes are Mings, Kamara and McGinn - the adults in the room - together with Ned, who I thought was very good, and Duran. Gold stars to all.
No stars for Buendia, so often caught in possession. Philogene was too lightweight (made Bailey look like a rock) and his decision making was appalling - criminal to pass up this opportunity to shine. Wasn’t impressed by Gauci in general and felt he might have done better with both goals. Maatsen had an unusually poor night, with a lot of misplaced passes.
Everyone else, passable.
We could have beaten these lot, even with all the changes.
-
I get CL is where money is at. But if we are not in it to win trophies whats the point of existing? We need trophies.its already embarrassing enough that blose have won more than us in the last 20 years
I agreed with your earlier point about needing to show up against Spurs (and definitely Brugge if CL is the priority) but give over with this ‘embarrassing’ nonsense because they won a thing once. Embarrassing would be it being your only bauble in over a century.
-

We don't *need* trophies we need to finish top 5/6 and be in the champions league, without those things we don't have enough money to compete. You win one trophy and it gives you no cash. I'm not saying I like it but it's where we are at
-
Emre had no interest in winning this, bigger fish to fry. Thought Kamara and Mings looked ready but Buendia and the young keeper nowhere near. It's a competition worth missing.

You just said Man United won two trophies what is it done for them
Well they gave their fans 2 big days out, bigger than anything we’ve done in the last 28 years
they put two trophies in the cabinet
To be honest I can’t quite believe the attitude of some of our supporters not wanting to win a bit of silverware
-
I fully expected us to lose tonight but it's still a kick in the nuts when it happens
-

Two of the best days of my life were 1994 and 1996 and it is sad each year to see us, not just give up on this competition, but devalue/cheapen those days we had in 1994 and 1996. They were 'only the league cup' after all
-

Get back under your bridge
-
Cash and Ramsey were on the bench, why not bring them on after 60 mins? Surely Barkley could have started next to Kamara? Onana should have been on the bench at a minimum, only played 45 mins last weekend. It's not really on to throw a load of randoms with very little game into a cup time and expect a performance. We were equally as bad in the previous round. After the late collapse last weekend, a strong positive performance would have set us up nicely for the weekend. But that triple sub tells you how much Emery cared about the game.
-

It’s given them and their fans two fucking trophies. Last one we had was 1990 fucking six.
-
Less disapointed by the result then the performance. A lot of the squad players provided more questions than answers.
Thought Mings and Kamara looked good considering how long they have been out. Carlos, Gucci, Beundia and Jayden didnt help themselves.
The irony in that is between them, they represent about 70m of investment. Beundia, I think possibly has been outgrown. Im hoping that Jayden has more to offer - but currently were looking light for froward options, particularly with Bailey out of form.
Unfortunately typical domestic club game under Unai
-
Maybe Unai is more focused on the FA Cup when considering the domestic competitions.
I’m rather disappointed, I thought we could have won this after a couple of their key players went off injured early on.
The good bit is Mings playing and surviving 90 minutes!
Also, Kamara taking control of the midfield.

You could see from the low down pitch camera the lack of effort in our play. If we could have forfitted that beforehand then I'm sure we would have.

As long as you're alright Jack Some of us have never seen us win anything.
-
I agree with Unai about his priorities. League first, Champions League, FA Cup and then the League Cup.
I disagree with the amount of changes. As soon as the teams were out I knew we’d lose. It massively reduces our chances of winning silverware this season and saves us a maximum of 3 games. More than that it undermines the spirit and momentum we’re attempting to build which doesn’t help with the other competitions either.

OK I get you but I am sick of this piss poor attitude season after season. Waste of money and time tonight.
-
Half expected that to be honest. Mings and Kamara were decent which was something positive to take away from the game but Buendia looks way off it still. Philogene and Carlos also not great. Duran's all round game is coming on though.
-
Entirely predictable. Basically, a second string starting eleven (apart from McGinn and Bailey). I thought as insurance at least have the first teamers on the bench to change things. But, only Cash and Ramsey on the bench with experience, who didn't even get on in the 2nd half?! Pointless playing the domestic cup competitions as this happens year on year.

I think on the amount of changes, we’re limited in where we can make big changes for a competitive (okay, given the way it panned out not very competitive from our side…) game without big repercussions. Not many league games you can chuck a youth in to see how they do or give someone coming back from injury 30 minutes without it being massive dissected afterwards if it goes wrong both at the time or the end of the season. But then will be blamed for not giving others a chance. No way to win that one.
-
Your never gona win an argument or make any valid points to people who don’t give a fuck about winning anything for decades on the trot
-
How poor was our mate Ian , absolutely erratic performance and very poor .
Philogene dear oh dear , Buendia looks miles off it .
Kamara after his balls up costing us the eze goal got better , Mings was solid but tired at the end understandable.
-
Your never gona win an argument or make any valid points to people who don’t give a fuck about winning anything for decades on the trot
I do give a fuck, but clearly managers don't, ours especially. I don't like it but it's the way football is going and I also agree with you lads. I'm lucky that I just watched on telly tonight cos anyone there having spent all that money watching that shit deserves better
-

The hardest thing tonight for me was walking back to the car trying to explain to a 9 year old why Villa seemed less bothered than usual about winning a game of football.
Remember when Holloway called us half arsed......it very much seemed that way tonight.
The history books will no doubt say something like 2024/25 season League Cup Winners Man U or Arsenal.
Not Villa
That hurts
