Fire away.
-
Fucking wank! Well done Palace, you beat a CL team!
-
Imagine last summer being told we would lost our first and last game 5-0 but still make the Champions League.
-
Who cares?! Have a good summer lads, & see you next season.
-
Our GD took a proper pumping
-
Well overall a really fun season but I'm glad it's over. Need a rest from it all. Would have loved to finish on a high note but hey ho.
-
Imagine last summer being told we would lost our first and last game 5-0 but still make the Champions League.
This erasing of Diaby from history has gone too far.
-
Didn't learn anything new today.
Anywhere near close to our Best XI, we're very good.
Any three of Olsen, Carlos and Lenglet playing (individually or collectively) = we're not very good.
-
I wonder if our next Premier League fixture will see a different starting XI?
-
Even with that, we had better gd than Spurs...FTF
-
We’ve nailed fourth so today didn’t matter.
We’ve all turned up to work with a hangover when there’s fuck all to do?
Bring on next season.
UTV
-
12 players not involved today if you include Torres. I'll take the 4th place and Champions League thank you very much. Palace will do well next season having said that, if they hang on to their star players.
-
The real hard work begins now. Have a good summer all...
-
Imagine last summer being told we would lost our first and last game 5-0 but still make the Champions League.
We equalised in the Newcastle game and then lost our defensive leader a few minutes later so yeah, it was nowt like today. Fergie knew we were the real deal that day.
-

Haha! I thought I was misremembering that we'd scored in that game!
-
Biggest disappointment today is Ollie not scoring.
-
Well that was 90 minutes of my life I won't get back...
[hops over to NewsNow] Let the summer transfer clickbait begin :)
-
Monchi's first summer transfer window. I really hope he knows what he's doing. Plenty of players out there today can't blame tiredness for such a pathetic performance. Olsen MOTM.
-
Pretty rubbish - but a nice illustration that squad depth and defensive shape are a big priorities. And actually the end of the season form has been rough, so very obvious (and I’m sure known) areas to improve.
Some mad takes on the match thread - never having Digne in a Villa shirt again, and Palace swapping places with us next year. I know it’s a match thread, but fucking hell.
-
Positive: We did finish with better GD than Spurs by a small margin (+15 vs +13). (Have been a talking point recent weeks.)
-
A little disheartening how bad we were in the second half regardless of personnel. We couldn't get the ball off them for the last 35 minutes, I can't remember the last time seeing us be so outclassed.
-

Can blame hang-overs though.
-
my father in law is happy and hes a nice bloke so happy for him.
expecting 3 1 lose with watkins goal so litte disapointed . Carlos, Olsen , chambers and Lenglet thanks but you need to go.
Looking forward to chumps league next season .. Emery is GOD
-
Prince William! Tom Hanks! Nigel Kennedy!
David Cameron (fuck off!), David Cameron (fuck off!), Gary Shaw! Geezer Butler! Ian Bell! Chris Woakes! David Bradley! etc.
-
No need for me to wait up for Match of the Day 2.
-
One of those matches were more people who didn't go will be moaning on here tonight than those who actually did.
We've been gassed for weeks, put everything into Monday, got what we needed from that to achieve our objective and with leaving out half our first choice team today it was always risking a hammering with the form Palace were in.
Ultimately we could've lost this 50-0 and it changes nothing for what we've achieved in last nine months.
We also know many aren't in the team today aren't going to be good enough for CL so this is where Monchi significantly comes into play this summer with his creative dealing.
-
Who cares about this end of season friendly? 11 of our PL squad out and Champions league secured.
Even with a fully fit squad this season would’ve been an unbelievable success but with the horrendous injuries we’ve had it’s nothing short of a miracle.
I think they’ll be quite a few leaving us this summer and 3/4 coming in as well as Mings Buendia, Ramsey and Roger’s back for August we’ll be much stronger.
What a season this have been.
UTV
-
I know today's result didn't matter but still I can't help being disappointed. Anyway thank you Villa for this great season.
Hope we will confirm next season.
UTV
-
Terrible. But don't care.
The season has been extremely successful & recent results/performances have given us an idea of who we need to get rid of & where we need to strengthen.
On the plus side, the result has really pissed off one of my Spurs supporting mates. He is slating Spurs for not taking it to the last day, & calling us shit, lol.
Which has made the whole day really quite funny...
-
It doesn’t matter.
-
5 to start 5 to finish. We don’t do things by half measures.
-
Monchi's first summer transfer window. I really hope he knows what he's doing. Plenty of players out there today can't blame tiredness for such a pathetic performance. Olsen MOTM.
Can blame hang-overs though.
Maybe Unai is still pissed.
-
Edit. Never mind.
-
Battered to start battered to end. Champions League qualification in between. Boys needed the rest. A very exciting summer awaits.
-
Thankfully they didn’t score anymore, with 25 minutes left I seriously thought the 8-0 loss at Chelsea some years back could be under threat. Very unprofessional.
-
Liverpool lose Klopp, we lose a few players who have proven they are not good enough.
Good days work.

I'd say that's evidence you can use TV.

Biggest disappointment today is Ollie not scoring.
Losing our undefeated record in London well and truly out the window is very disappointing. I'd love to see a list of all the records we broke this season, at one point it was almost a weekly event as another record was made.
-
Thank you to everyone who contributed to such an amazing season, wild ride and transformation! Here's to getting everyone rested, fit and all set to go again. UTV! Happy holidays!
-
I hate seeing us lose so meekly. Our central back two won’t be here next season so why bother playing them? I want us to be professional in every game, today that was anything but. How we get 5 or 6 better recruits for next season is beyond me but we need to be active just to maintain what we’ve achieved this
-
So much for putting players in the shop window. Their prices will have decreased dramatically after today’s match. I think if Emery had played Diaby today, he would have made a massive difference.
-

What a season. A shame to end like that, not that it really matters.

You do realise this is a public internet forum where people make and reply to posts? If you wish to fantasise about being 'stalked' (i.e. somebody has said something to you on the internet), then carry on. Perhaps, next time you will be more civil in your dealings because all I see are petty, childish jibes being thrown my way. To which I feel I may respond so that you don't embarrass yourself in the future.
-
Irrelevant result today imo. Beating Arsenal away, during the run in, when they were going for the title, was our performance of the season. And they'll not forget that we cost them the title.
-
What a season. A shame to end like that, not that it really matters.
Providing we win the league next season I'm willing to forgive most of them.
-
Let us just stand back though: we can get battered 5-0 and only feel mild irritation. That is a rare feeling down Aston way. Long may it continue!
-

Well only if they do with a game to spare.

Yeah, wank at the back again.

I was in with the Palace fans opposite the Villa end.

Fuck the result. Just about the best atmosphere for a Villa away game since Taylor’s last game at Goodison nearly 35 years ago. Incredible!
-
The atmosphere was just fucking brilliant. Everything else just mattered to the people that weren't there.

Good point about Arsenal - good feeling about that :). At our best we can beat everyone. We are also capable of performances like today which is worrying. Positive about today; others will underestimate us start of next season, I guess some media and others will tip Palace over us for instance. I did fear Luiz s yellow should end up red today - him out three first games next season.
-
5-0 is never not embarrassing though.
I have forgotten it ever happened. ;-)
-
"Who gives a fuck!
Who gives a fuck!
Who gives a fuuuuuuck!"
All about the celebration today. I love a good marathon sing song and that's what we were treated to.
56th game of the season, even I'm knackered and will be glad for a few weeks off from football and all we do is turn up and watch.
Essentially 11 players out of outrageous quality too. Both sides fielding folks you won't see next season, only they will be losing their best.
Arse dropped out in the 2nd half. Quite a few good chances second, but whatever!
Is this the way to Barcelona?!

It was a celebration of what has been an unbelievable season. If people can’t see what today was then that their issue.
-
Its probably been said - poetic about starting and ending the season letting in 5.
Well done to everyone for this season - the line up today shows what an achievement it was. Clearly a lot of players playing through the pain. They should all be proud of themselves.
Some of the players starting today will have played there last game for us - but they all contributed this season so well done to them all.
-
I'm fairly sure they had to delay their lap of honour because we wouldn't fuck off home and were instead bouncing along to what should have been their own songs.
What a fucking achievement. Madrid next season boys!!!!

If Tim can't even get a start ahead of Chambers in a dead rubber that says it all. He did not heed Emery's words in February I'm afraid.
KHH a bit younger but again recalled mid season and only got a few token minutes in games we already had won. The Serb kid will be ahead of him next season.
Kellyman has a chance but he's only 18 so ideally a loan out to the championship I think.

Digne being called a Clown was match thread reactionary at its very finest.

Of the ones that weren't on loan, I don't see any of them making it into the first team peoper next season, barring massive injury list again. Definitely not looking at any of them thinking we don't need to sign a player for position x, y or z because we have player x, y or z.
Not even sure we'd raise that much money flogging any of them.
-
I was there, but unfortunately got a ticket from my palace supporting mate, so had to sit and watch the goals go in wishing I was sat in the other side of the ground. I think my mate took pity on me, coz we went to the bar ten minutes before the end. Still, what a great season.

Exactly, we got Champions League football, and nothing else matters.

First club since Norwich in '93 to concede 60 goals and finish top four (and they had four extra games). We're nowt if not entertaining. Seem to remember they ended-up with a negative goal-difference which is quite special.
-
Don't care, went into the garden to fire up the bbq at HT. Checked in on the score, a quick "fucking hell", then back to the Peri Peri wings. We've been well and truly gassed for weeks now.
What a season. One of my favourite, and most stressful, for ages. Maybe ever.
-
Terrible and I do care. Totally disrespectful of the loyal travelling fans. They deserved much better than this. A great season but why sign off so unprofessionally?
-
Saw the team selection and didn't expect much, looked like some of the players were given a bit of match time becasue they will be off soon. Don't care at all about the performance or result today because it has been an incredible season with some truly memorable matches.

Levico is right. This team owed us a performance. Was it too much to ask? Such total let downs. Sack the lot of ‘em. And Unai too.
-
Well that was a surreal experience

Season completely ruined. Terrible and unprofessional. How dare they? All those loyal fans dancing and singing. They’re embarrassing too. We should all hang our heads in shame.

I don't care if you interact or you don't. But we are on a forum to have a chat. I think you know what I meant, but please do pick at the details.....
"You words into our mouths"? Is this a nuanced style of English I'm not aware of? 😉
-
The game itself was an irrelevance in what was a truly outstanding season . As Monchi tweeted earlier this week the club are already planning for next season. Onwards and upwards.

Was prepared to give him more time but after today's blatant display of nepotism, get rid and bring back Stevie G.
-
Is it too late to give up fourth place in shame?
-

Totally agree with you. Emery is really TSM3, way out of his depth in this league. This morning on Skysport in their season's review all 3 pundits agreed that he should be manager of the year. Manager of the year...my foot. Get rid.
-
Drummond. No, my English is evidently shit. ;-)
Now, back to the post. Those who went to the game had a fantastic time, I understand. And some of those who didn't had a moan. And you think they shouldn't because it was ace at Selhurst Park. Is that about right?
-
No problem with that result…although I’m sure Unai / Monchi and co won’t need reminding that defence is the priority for the summer…a little reminder once the work was complete won’t go amiss :-)
Away fans sounded awesome….party time!

Yeah it was a non stop party. Everyone just crowded in, I'm not sure anyone was at their right seat, we most certainly weren't. Great fun. The match felt like an exhibition. We have definitely seen a few out on the pitch in a Villa shirt for the last time...
-
Fair play. Obviously.
-

The thing is though the away fans who were there in the away end and have posted in this thread generally don't seem to care at all we lost 5-0, more like what an amazing atmosphere it was and just part to be an occasion where we know we've finished 4th and achieved something we haven't for decades (now the next step is actually winning something).
It was one of those games where I think going you kind of knew what you'd signed up for with a weaker team being put out and danger players would just go through the motions when every other game in the last six weeks has been massive pressure to get a result.
And it's a day out in London aswell so I doubt the club is going to get any refund requests.
-
Fucking terrible result but despite that, I hope those that there enjoyed the day. I've been there and done it. Those who go away a lot make freinds, they'll have had a beer, a chat and say cheerio until August. And why not? What a fucking season it's been.
UTV!
-
It was poor, but we clearly checked out after Tuesday (Unai said as much). It was the first game in 18 months that didn’t have some form of pressure on it and we were decimated by injuries. They deserve a pass, and after good preparation we’ll be in great shape next season.
-

We were fortunate we were playing a mid-table team rather than one involved in the chase for a European spot, or in a title/relegation battle.
-
Palace also played without pressure but they had all their key players back.
-
Very strange game. They went 2 nil up but we were much the better side. In that period there were two really poor decisions that went against us; the Duran body check penalty and the Anderson handball. Both of which were clear decisions both of which both the ref and VAR did nothing to address. After that we fell apart. Special mention for Carlos who was absolutely pathetic today.
-
Yeah he was, but he was fantastic in the 9 points we got against the two best teams in the league so you know.
-

Yep. But the games outside of the that? Not so much. One to move on in the summer.

Agree with all of this.
Carlos has played some very good games, but mostly he has been dire. It was a serious injury, and some players never fully recover.
I think he played for Brazil a few times before he signed for us.
-
Quite possibly. But my point is more he gets plenty of stick, but in some massive games he has been one of our best players.
-
I think he played for Brazil a few times before he signed for us.
He did not.
But his best years did coincide with a lot of very good Brazilian centre-backs.
Won gold at the Olympics with them, but no proper matches.
-

The one thing that Unai repeats, erm, consistently, is the need for consistency. 8/10 performances in 2 or 3 games is no good if you get 4 or 5/10 in the other 7 or 8. I think he's one who could definitely be moved on.
-
A fabulous day. Fans in full voice, stadium rocking and what a performance. Love this team.

Yeah and I think that’s probably ok. But on the consistency point we have been chopping
and changing defensive combinations (out of necessity) so much. I suspect that is difficult, particularly for some players.
-

OK. He "received a late call-up to the Brazil squad for two 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Uruguay".
Won't be getting any more call-ups, late or otherwise, anytime soon.
-
Fair play to the lads who went as road cones. And Buzz Lightyear.

Norwich finishing 3rd on a negative GD is still one of my favourite football stats.
-
5-0 is a disgrace . Has Emery had his marching orders yet along with Monchi , Vidagny,Nanny McPhee, Will-I-am, Hanks, NSWE, Bardell, the tea lady, Olsen and Munroe .
-
Stand out away domestically that was. Alkmaar the winner for Europe. Both class.

I think if we were playing someone playing to stay up we'd have played a much stronger team than today purely out of duty to the league (and we'd have likely been fined).

I was in with the Palace fans opposite the Villa end.
They did us proud singing the whole game and being noisier than the Palace drumming idiots.

Coincidentally I was next to two sisters from Sheffield who are part of the Yorkshire Villans and met some fellas from Ghana via East London who are mates with Konsa, as well as anumber of people from the European trips. Also met Drummond in the pub before the game.
Today was great, raucous fun but I still hated seeing us concede 5. It would be churlish to sulk after everything we’ve achieved this season though.
-
For the first time in a decade I saw Spizz at half time too.

Not Andy Cudworth by any chance? He’s a great guy.
-
He's not in the Yorkshire Lions now....

Worrabout Wolfie ?
-
He's not in the Yorkshire Lions now....
I can’t say I know what those reasons are… from my experience, I’d trust him like a brother.
-
I had a great day today met a few I'd not met before (Duncan Shaw, Chico Hamilton III, Pat McMahain, Big Daz, some London Lions, and some Yorkshire Lions, enjoyed a pint or 6, had a good old sing song and got to properly celebrate the Villa finishing 4th (our highest place for 30 years) and qualifying for the Champions League.
The result was immaterial to us, but allowed Palace to finish in the top half of the Premier League for the first time in a long time.
Show me the way to Barcelona....
And I'm just home and ready for bed.
-
A great away day and celebration of gaining Champions League spot. Must admit to being glad it's all over and resting up for the roller coaster of next season.

No. We'd have needed Watkins. ☺
-
And we would have had to purchase Rodgers to play him.
-
Well, I don't like to correct people's spelling, as you know.

Fair play to Palace, they were superb, on that form they would have given most of the teams in the league a thrashing let alone an extremely weakened, not to mention a very knackered Villa side. The result did hurt me, but was more disappointed that Ollie didn't get his 20 goals the man's been absolutely brilliant for us.

Yes, a shame that, from what I saw he didn't really come close to getting it did he?
-
Saw one or two in Villa shirts going in with Palace as we were walking down Park Road to the Whitehorse end of the Arthur Wait where away fans are seated
They are supposedly knocking down and rebuilding the AW and not before time either. Horrible claustrophobic shithole with that soppy gantry blocking half your view
-
Absolutely brilliant away day that away end was rocking before the game and during and after the game just singing and a party atmosphere.

There was a header that he could have smashed down to the right of their keeper but he headed it like I probably would have, and the net was not troubled.

If Carlos hadn’t got in his way last Monday he would’ve done.

It was a brilliant day out, just a proper celebration. I don;t like getting hammered 5 0 but it really, really didn;t matter or bother anyone there. I genuinely forgot there was a game going on on quite a few occasions. Hijacking the Palace goal celebrations also great fun! For me it was probably the first time I've had a real, proper celebratory game like that with my son - and he's 24 next month! Really good to meet Drummond too, and stand with him for the 2nd half, as Martyn Smith said, no-one was in their right seats.
A top day out, and even though the Villa supporter in me that has been hardened to fear the worst over the last 40 years has me with a niggling feeling the last couple of weeks are a sign of us weakening again, I have full faith in Mister Unai that he ain't gonna let that happen!!

Given we played in 1st gear i think that description is a tad OTT .

You're a film star, Daz! Our first trophy next season will be in February when you pick up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the feature film 'Villa On Tour'. Congratulations.
It looked one extremely crazy day. I'm knackered just watching it.

Well they beat us 5-0. Fair play to them as they have been in form for weeks

had a great time at Palace. My voice, shins and wallet is in agony.

Just showed my missus that. She didn't give a fuck, like, but thought it was worth a go. Class.

For the first time in a decade I saw Spizz at half time too.
Worrabout Wolfie ?
Now you mention it I’ve never seen Wolfie and Spizz together……

I've seen Spizz with Glen Matlock.
-
I think Selhurst Park was probably the last time I saw Wolfie, back when it was all standing. He seemed to be wandering round not really watching the game.
-
Was he wearing his policeman's helmet?

But have you seen Glen Matlock with Wolfie?

Is there anyone else who keeps singing?
This keeps going round and round in my head....
"Is this the way to Barcelona,
Bayern Munich, Lazio, Roma,
the Villa Boys are taking over,
Champions League awaits for me...
Nanana, nanananana, Villa!
Nanana, nanananana, Villa!
Nanana, nanananana,
Champions League awaits for me..."
Keep humming it etc...
And
Watkins on fire,
Your defence is terrified...

Thanks for this Drummond, currently away on my honeymoon and had watched a few videos trying to make out the lyrics. I am also now humming them and getting the eye roll from SWMBO.

Ha ha yes! I've watched the video you sent me of my son and me bouncing away to "Barcelona" about 15 times!! My wife, who has no interest in football bar Villa winning to keep me happy, thinks it's absolutely brilliant!!
-
Haha! Excellent, glad I caught the moment!

Ha, brilliant

Obviously we had a lot of players out but with hindsight we didn't take the game as seriously as Palace did. Fans or players. It's probably the most unbothered I've been about a 5-0 defeat.
-
I was 'round my mates, we watched the first half but then went into the garden to eat and didn't bother going back in after half time. My godson wandered between the two, mainly cursing every time he was in front of the TV. I think I've been at, or watched every game this season but I really thought the result was a foregone conclusion.
I'm just chuffed everyone had such a good time, I was at Goodison in '90 and this sounded every bit as good.
-
Much the same here, watched until the second goal then drank beer in the garden getting goal alerts and swearing regularly.

It was unlike any other football match I've been to. I've been to end of season games with nothing riding on them but never with such a party atmosphere nor a care about the result. I'm pretty sure it's actually the heaviest defeat I've seen us suffer live in my 47 years of watching the team
-
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Palace on the fringes of European qualification next season. They have a lot of good players and if they can hold onto as many of them as possible, and reinvest the receipts for those they can't retain well, I think they could be quite a force

That’s been on a loop in my head since Sunday afternoon too
