I think we will win 1-3.

Also, how come we may vote for Win, Draw and Lose at the same time? Which I have done in order to have a hazy feeling of well-being about getting  it right.

Those fuckers will win this.

We hardly ever win on Boxing Day, and these fuckers seem to be fluking results vs the better teams, so this points to another win almost by accident for them. Especially so given that this is the team i most want us to beat, we still have three decades' worth of scores to settle.

3-0 Villa. These did a Sheffield United on Liverpool the other day. They'll have to come out to play at home and this shall betray them.

Really hope Pau is back for this. It’s not that Lenglet did particularly badly, although I think he’s primarily culpable for losing Archer for the goal, but you can just see the difference Pau makes. He’s just a different class.

Manchester United have been told "major improvements" are needed to ensure food sold at Old Trafford is safe to eat.

The Premier League side have been given a one star out of five food hygiene rating after a Food Standards Agency inspection last month.

The Red Devils admitted "a small amount of undercooked meat was inadvertently served during a non matchday event".

"This was an isolated issue and the immediate failures were quickly addressed," the club said.

United said they are also conducting an independent food audit to identify any further areas of improvement.

"MUFC has taken this incident very seriously and wants to reassure our valued fans and customers that we maintain the highest culinary standards," the club added.

"The club is proud of the high standards and the five-star food hygiene record which had been awarded to us for the past eight years.

"Everyone at the club is determined to regain our five-star food hygiene status as quickly as possible."

We'll need to do what we did against Man City. They probably won't want to come at us like their neighbours did, but they still will have a go. We'll need our midblock working at peak function again, we'll need to dominate the one-on-one duels, we'll need to outnumber their options in midfield and time our runs better - and, for god's sake, get our throughballs right!

I wouldn't change it around too much. We desperately needed Dougie further forward last night, so I'd bring Big Donk in to shore up the defensive duties.

                     Martinez
Konsa    DiegoCarlos    Lenglet    Digne
               The Donk
     Bailey     Dougie     McGinn
                   Diaby
                  Watkins

Luiz will need to sit next to the Donk. His efforts to play on the half turn would be a disaster. Agreed on starting the Donk, McGinn was lost there last night and we lost his goal threat from midfield as a result. Only one of Diaby or Bailey for me and likely the latter on current form. Time to start Moreno too. Id go with Ramsey again on left.

Arguably we had 3 calls that went against us on Friday that should have gone the other way - a goal and two penalties- so you’d hope on the law of averages that’d balance out. Sadly we’re playing at Old Trafford, so we can guarantee a number of calls will go against us.

Yeah it’s not deliberate, I’m not going to descend into Arsenal fan style conspiracy nonsense. I think for the disallowed goal it’s a philosophical issue with the application of VAR, I think sometimes they’re looking for a reason to disallow, rather than checking that there aren’t any material mistakes/misses from the on field decision.

Agree with this. I stand correct but when we beat Brighton 6-1, I'm sure three of our goals were checked by VAR.

I get that but it is difficult to understand how or why they seem to get so many things wrong, the lack of consistency regarding decisions and the use of VAR leads a lot of people to believe they are bringing the game in to disrepute.

Post by: Monty on December 24, 2023, 10:13:03 AM
Don't think it's a conspiracy against us in particular, but I do think certain clubs get those decisions and the others usually don't. Was a miracle that the Arsenal goal against us was ruled out.
Title: Re: Man United vs Aston Villa pre-match thread
Post by: Nev on December 24, 2023, 11:23:37 AM
I was convinced that we would batter Sheff Utd but get stitched up by VAR at Newton Heath. Perhaps it will be the other way 'round then?

Last game on Boxing Day for us always works out to be a load of old shite so let's hope Emery can stop this particular run, and the home side are likely to be more open which should allow us a bit more space in which to work.

I have a feeling it will be a bit tight, but a bit good in terms of the result.

0-1
Title: Re: Man United vs Aston Villa pre-match thread
Post by: villa_cads on December 24, 2023, 12:01:02 PM
I'd definitely bring Carlos back in (for Cash and move Konsa to the right) to provide progressive passes from the back (assuming Pau is out). Otherwise unchanged. They'll be way more open than Sheff Utd, so no issues with Luiz and McGinn a bit deeper.

1-2 with an early Villa goal from Diaby.

Andrew Cole went a number of games without scoring when he joined them then got his first goal v us in a 1-0 home win , scored down the Stretford End , i was in the away end fuming
See also Diego Forlan, fucker couldn't buy a goal until we obliged.

Forget Manure as they will be doing anything with VAR to give them a win and, hopefully, we can turn Burnley over. You just know that if any of the penalties we had turned down on Friday will be given to Manure without any hesitation.

Wouldn't it be great to nick it in the last 10 minutes with us getting the dodgy penalty or offside call for a change.

It might just cause a rip in the space-time continuum.

They're shit. And they'll carry on being shit for a while. They've won 1 of the last 7 games in all comps and not scored in the last 4. Us last season are the only good side they've beaten for about 10 months. Next best are Chelsea/Brentford/Wolves. We turn up with the right attitude and performance and we win. We're better than them, it's up to us to show it.

To try and salvage a shit season, Aston Villa have to be Man United's main target. We have put the 'cat among the pigeons' by challenging for a top four spot.

They probably reckon Man City, Arse and Liverpool are nailed on for a top four spot but we are the weak link and they desperately need to beat us.

All the pressure is on them. They will come out the blocks fast. We need to match them and then over the 90 minutes our extra quality should tell.

But allowing for their dodgy goal, I am going 1-1. Watkins.

I've always hated playing them. But now we have Unai Emery.

We are a good side, albeit missing a couple of our better players in Kamara, Tielemans and Torres.

The thing is, we have options now, and we will have some of Ramsey, Diaby, Zaniolo, Bailey, Duran on the bench who can come in and change things and cause the opposition problems. We will have a likely choice and change of Digne and Moreno to cause them more issues too.

we appear to be out of form and key players missing so i am not confident about this one plus they are due a goal and a win . Hope i'm wrong

Out of form? In our last 10 games in all competitions we've won 7 and drawn 3.
i meant immediate form , Brentford A and Sheff Utd H , not really been at it in either game

We've been not quite at our best for a week, they've won once in a month and scored none in their last four. How fucking shit do you want them to be before we play them??

We’ve lost one in fourteen, do you want to be specific in terms of immediate loss of form?? You mean one drawn game and a 2-1 win against a team that rarely  loses at home?

To be fair, the players have said things along the lines of if you win 3-0 and you scored two, Emery is all why didn't you get a hat-trick and it should have been four you slackers who did not listen to the instructions you need to be more demanding....

And yet we won & drew despite the officials & VAR, along with your assumption that we have "not really been at it in either game".

And before that we dicked ManC & beat Arsenal without getting out of second gear...

In the last six games, we are 2nd in the form table. (Bizarrely behind Bournemouth).

In the last ten games, we are 1st in the form table.

A few dodgy moments in the past couple of games when we have struggled to break down a clamped bus, but inevitably ended up scoring three goals in those two games, does not mean we are "out of form".

It means that the smaller teams are actually respecting our form.

Having said that, I make no connection between our excellent long term AND immediate form & playing ManU at the Theatre of Prawns.

Considering whenever we play there, we have to play not only against the ManU first team, but a whole host of officials inside & outside the ground at the same time.

But to say we are out of form, short or long term, is utterly ludicrous...

We didn't play well in either game, until Mee gets the red I don't see us coming back in that game. Sheffield Utd was slow ponderous football we don't look the same without Torres or Kamara . I see a difficult game tonight.

Think Id go with this team today.

Martinez
Konsa
Carlos
Torres or Lenglet (if Torres out)
Moreno
Luiz
Mcginn
Zaniolo
Watkins
Bailey
Ramsey

2-1 us (McGinn, Watkins)

We can't play McGinn in that position again. He had a shocker v Sheff United and it takes from our forward play when he isn't further up. Stick in the Donk, he will surely be able to handle the likes of McTominay. I think the Donk will start tonight and McGinn will be used to target Dalot/AWB instead on our left. A tactical switch I'd like to see a bit more often tonight is Bailey switching to the left at times. Should be more space tonight than in the last two games so I think Diaby will be given another go.

I think Emery will go with

--------Martinez
Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Moreno
-------Donk, Luiz
Bailey-----------McGinn
------Diaby, Watkins

'Shocker' is a massive exaggeration, he made a mistake for their goal and was more limited going forwards. I'd also get him wide and more advanced again, but I do think the criticism has been over the top. He'd probably play better in there alongside Bouba rather than Doug.

I dont have the best of feelings for this game. With the situation at Man U for the moment it s kind of set for them as an underdog to have the media and home support to show them self and give it all to beat us; the better team. If we can come out and show our best we beat them though. I hope for another game as we had with Arsenal; superb attack early on an 1-0 up and nervewrecking defensively rest 80 minutes (not good for my health).

I did think Diaby and Bailey were making similar runs and with them both starting, it meant we had less options from the bench. I'd probably start one or the other but not both. We might have been better off starting with both Watkins and Duran Friday.

I think Tim has a point. They're too similar to play on the same side - they too often cut back into the same space and neither goes for the byline.

One of them could play on the left, though.

They have been shite for quite a while & still managed to finish top 4 last season. If we had everyone available I'd be very confident.

Like every game, if we give nothing away & the ref doesn't give them a gift we'll be OK. Score the first goal & the crowd will go into meltdown.

I'm going for 1-1 as we can't keep a clean sheet.

Not won in 5 & not scored in last 4

3-1 Utd then .

Antony hasn’t scored this season and Rashford has two to his name. Two each then, 4-1.

Poundland Haarland hasn't scored one Prem goal yet either has he? Make it 5-1.

To be fair to the lad, if he was at Man City he'd probably be scoring as many as Haaland. He gets absolutely no service from the midfield, they're all selfish players who can't score themselves but keep trying to.

I'll go with Ads team too. Everybody in their best positions, a show of strength, all knowing their job. A 14 point gap between us and the Plastics, 13 with the Saudis if we win tonight. Another vote for Tim to get some minutes, I can't wait to see what Unai can do for him, he was ripping it up at QPR until Beale left and then anarchy set in at Loftus Road. He's a massive talent and he should be pushing to get time every week so that Kamara and Dougie can have a bit of a rest.

McGinn must play further forward, so either Donk or Timmy comes in. I'd also play Digne over Moreno.
Bailey and Diaby do frequently play well together, I think it could work today because there will be more space in behind the Utd defence. That said, I'd start with Ramsey and bring Bailey on in the 2nd half.

If we score early we'll funeral the twats.
