For the first time ever I'd actually choose to start Olsen for this if he's fit. Whatever team we put out really should get a draw there at least. Even if we lose by one we probably end up winning the group.
I’d go
Olsen
Cash
Chambers
Lenglet
Digne
Dendonker
Luiz
Tielemans
Ramsey
Diaby
Duran
This means the whole back 5 can be rested for next week at Brentford.
It means also McGinn, Kamara, Watkins and Bailey also get rested for Brentford.
Of course Unai will know best but it’s what I’d be tempted to do.
This team apart from Zaniolo for Tielemans.
I want us to focus on the next 3 league games.
I would leave as many as our first X1 at home was we can.
Critical we rest Watkins Mcginn Luiz Konsa Pau Digne Martinez.I want us to focus on the next 3 league games.
I would leave as many as our first X1 at home was we can.
I doubt anyone will be left at home unless they're injured. I don't think we have a big enough squad to fill the bench unless majority of the team travels.

I'd go:Normally I don’t like changes at this scale but do agree with you. Luiz and Digne to be played only because they are suspended for Brentford game.
Emi
Cash Carlos Lenglet Digne
Tielemans Dendoncker Luiz Ramsey
Diaby Duran
I think our European adventures this year has helped us as a team playing more games rather than hinderedYes I agree. Our worst display was against Forest, after a full week of rest.
I don’t see it as a negative at all
Is Olsen fit? He hasn't been on the bench.true, he got injured with Sweden . Maybe play Marschall

This is the team I’d start with. With Kamara, McGinn, Zaniolo getting some minutes. Im not sure i see Chambers playing again for us, think he’ll be sold or loaned out in January.
Yeah, but Carlos doesn't run around much. Not his style. Looks uncouth, that type of thing.

I can see us winning 2-1.That’s good enough for me. Will we see you out there Darren?

How do we finish second?
How do we finish second?

If, at the final whistle of Fulham away last season, someone had told me that 14 months later we'd be wondering which players to rest in our final Conference League group game as we needed to keep everyone fresh for our title challenge...
I'd have had them sectioned.
How do we finish second?Al
Almost impossible but the sort of thing Spurs would do.

Them winning 2-0 and us losing 2-0 would do it so it's not completely out of the question but seems unlikely. FWIW, I reckon AZ will beat Legia and overtake them. I hope so anyway.
This goes against everything I've been saying in ECL this season but I think we can get away with resting a few. Famous last words perhaps. I do wonder if our recent exploits will have been noted over in Bosnia and we will now be even more of a feather in their cap. Regardless, I think they will be taking this seriously even though they're out with nothing to play for.
Olsen hasn't been in the last two squads though so assume he's carrying some sort of injury.

Ah fair enough then! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Olsen.Hope he doesn't drop the baby.
Got to rotate - hopefully resting Ollie, Bailey, Kamara, Konsa, and SJM if we can.
Olsen (if fit)
Cash Chambers Lenglet Digne
Zaniolo Dendoncker Luiz (c) Ramsey
Diaby Duran
Should be enough to get a point with the starters from this week on the bench in case of emergency. Luiz and Digne may as well play as they have Sunday off
Tielemans needs a break too.
Ramsey and Moreno need minutes for fitness
Diaby & Zaniolo minutes to find form
Chambers and Lenglet can play CB
Luiz El capitano

Why does Tielemans need a break? He barely played half the match against Arsenal, and also only did 45 minutes against Spurs.
Any news on Tim Iroegbunam? I'd have thought he was exactly the type of player Emery would want to bring through. If he's finally recovered from his pre-season back injury, I'd hope we could give him at least 45 minutes. I know Dougie misses the Brentford game but he's another that would probably appreciate a bit of a rest.

I'm not sure Tim is registered if the list I saw the other day is correct. Same as Kellyman
That's great! You might as well put it in the Diaby thread too, if you haven't already done so.I don't want to overdo it, but after the post on the Disciplinary Thread, I was torn between putting it here or my usual basis of the foucs on player specific thread. Those things are dilemmas for me.

I thought these were the two most appropriate owing to pre-match selection discussion and always having precise information on Conference Card regulations on the Discipline and Suspension monitor thread.
Aside from that, I'm learning not to repeat myself too much across threads and hope I've covered everything for everyone so they know about Diaby.
So will just keep it to these two.
Moreno has to start for me - needs minutes in his legs and will occupy defenders in a way Digne can'tA Moreno at left midfield for match fitness and Digne at left back could be the way to play it ?

Željko Petrović is the new manager of Zrinjski Mostar! Petrović is a former Yugoslav international who made his debut under legendary coach Ivica Osim.
The 58-year-old's last coaching position was as the manager of the Iraqi national team. His tenure there ended in February 2022.

I nearly missed it as it wasn't in the Diaby thread. Maybe a rethink?

I’d presume it’s just confusing marketing but it’s not clear.

The team will be departing shortly, if any plane spotters near to BHX are interested.
It does worry me seeing football teams flying in such old aircraft. Mind you, I was born in the same month as Munich disaster.and its the infamous 737
TBF, it's not a MAX (obviously) and the 737, overall, has a decent safety record. It does worry me seeing football teams flying in such old aircraft. Mind you, I was born in the same month as Munich disaster.and its the infamous 737
just crossing the A2 north of Cambrai (Fr)I got lucky with a bridesmaid at a wedding in Cambrai. This was in the early 90's, I hasten to add.
I flew from Perpignan to BHX in a Ryanair 737 Max last year. They have two emergency exit rows that only have two seats abreast. Which I booked. Lots of space around you and no ****** invading it. You did well, there. It's always worth looking at the seat configuration on SeatGuru. Ryanair actually operate circa 6% of the total 737 MAX's in service. Yep, I wonder if he had to burn fuel, it's probably a tiny airport.
Is it worth having the Brentford vs. Villa thread up yet too in preparation for the match on Sunday?Yes , it's the more important game by miles
Plenty to discuss

Don't we avoid a two legged tie against a team that drops from the Europa League if we finish top of the group?agree, but Sunday is still far bigger / more important
That's a pretty big reason to want to finish top.

Yes, but it's not the end of the world if we don't. Compared to the last two matches this one feels low stress, and it's nice to have that before starting the Brentford pre-match discussion.

By the way , anyone dropping out the Europa into the conference at this stage means they are pretty crap or things aren't right at the club. Don't lose any sleep over these teamsStevenage. January 2023
A Villa fan got beaten up in Split last night by some Hajduk dickheads, who’d got wind of a few Villa in town. They were wandering round looking for lads on their own. He’s in a group of 10 or a dozen, but was on his own walking back to his hotel, when he was attacked by the cowardly bastards. All I know at the moment is” he’s in a bit of a state”, but he’s on the coach to Mostar.
I'm glad a couple of you aren't in charge considering you seem keen for extra games

I hope it isn't one of ours (HandV member). And hopefully medically he is ok even if the experience wasn't pleasant.

Panathinaikos, that Belgian team Brighton's owners own, Sparta Prague, AEK Athens and Olympiacos amongst the teams in 3rd in the EL as it stands. They're far from all shitty sides.

It's not a typo! Opera is the bar, ergo puns don't count.

And going to be a killjoy but when Villa fans are being attacked while following the club I can't help but think making puns related to it isn't the best.

Yeah, that's probably fair. A habit that's a bit too easy to slip into.
