Sunday, kick off 2pm.

Nothing to fear. They're not in great form and we are.

That is really disappointing especially when you think of how many times they've doubled us.

The great Johnny Dixon, sadly no longer with us, scored in both the matches, the only Villa captain to lift the FA Cup at Wembley.

Good time to be playing these I think. We obviously go in full confidence and they have had a lot of games recently too. What will suit us is that these wont sit in, they will give us time to play out from the back and into midfield, especially if it's the Burnley flop leading the line.

One change I would definitely make is to give Young a breather. Thankfully Fulham didnt start Daniel James on the left wing as Young couldnt cope when he was switched over there in the second half. If Cash is back he is hardly ready to be starting so would give Chambers a go there up against Rashford. Whether any of Coutinho, Bailey, Cash or Kamara are near a return even to the bench seems debatable. Would take a point and we are capable of getting it, 1-1.

--------Martinez
Chambers, Konsa, Mings, Moreno
------Luiz, Donk
McGinn, Buendia, Ramsey
-------Watkins

We did the double over them when we beat them in a cup game at Villa Park (Deano scored) and then Dalian got the winner the following weekend at VP (if my memory serves correctly). I know this doesn't count as the double but it's the closest we have got). I would love us to turn them over this weekend.

Think this is a good time to play them so I've gone for a win, and another hoodoo vanished.

We won there last season. Beat them at our place this. But we certainly need to get more wins overall against them.

Marvellous to go into these games with confidence and optimism but it's still tough.
I haven't seen anything from them to frighten us and it may be the lack of rotation due to personnel and the spectre of the officials and VAR that may knock us back.

I'm having none of it though, I think the Manager and players will relish this and so will fucking I!

0-2

I was referring to doing the league double over them in the same season. Obviously that will come if we are beating them more frequently.

The problem you have is there is some behind the scenes vindictive scumbag still smarting over us denying them the domestic treble in 1994. Hence all the bent decisions - especially at VP. That one where they were trying to find something - anything to disallow a perfectly legitimate goal showed you. Rat boy's non-penalty under that magnificent Smith win another example.

Im going for a 1-1 draw and a perfectly legitimate goal disallowed re wet spam v 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' last night as a bent decision favouring the sky faves.

I'm still hugely pissed off that what could easily have been a red card for a shin high tackle on Konsa was given as a penalty to Fernandes. The FA decision to disallow the goal was a disgrace as well, if it takes you 5 minutes to find something, anything, then it's not really clear and obvious is it?

Our best bet is to just go at them like we did against Newcastle. Get to three nil up and the inevitable VAR bollocks for them won't matter. Try to keep it tight and a last minute dodgy penalty when it's 0-0 will really smart.

This is the worst one for me, it was a truly horrific decision and I was convinced it had relegated us. What pissed me off the most about it was the studio, etc lying through their teeth to justify it. It was nearly as bad as the bullshit for the Man City one where everyone in world knew he was miles offside but they found an excuse to let the goal stand.

I'm still pissed off about Vidic not getting sent off in the League Cup Final.

Watkins getting sent off for diving when he was fouled for a penalty, Pogba's ghost penalty, Van Persie's wondergoal that was about three yards offside, the list goes on.

Even when we won up there last season, Maguire should have been straight red carded getting turned by McGinn and pulling him down when through on goal and we didn't even get a free kick.

I struggle to find words that can explain just how much i hate these fucking shit eaters. Theirs is the 2nd result i look for (after our own if not actually watching) and have a pathelogical and unhealthy hatred for anything to do with them.

I hope that goofy fuckpig does play just so one of ours can put their studs through his throat.

Even the polo neck wearing gimp is turning into the arrogant wanker that is expected of him.

We can go there and beat them, play our own game and not worry about the 12th man they will inevitably have. Our boys will be up for this as this is the new Villa - Villa the merciless

0-1 - McGinn

I have travelled far and wide with work and life and football is always a great ice breaker when meeting new people. The majority of fans, even mouthy cockneys, are usually pretty clued up about their own team and football in general and your can usually have a decent football conversation with them.

Then you ask "Who do you support?"  with the reply "united" and you just know the conversation will be all about them and some tenuous link as to why they live in Penzance but have always followed them.

If you had to have a live representative on just how much of a wanker a United fan can be - listen for 10 minutes to Andy Goldstein on Talk shite

Absolute arse pus the lot of them

Even though we could do, for our own targets, a Spurs loss tonight i just cannot bring myself to want them cnuts to do anything positive. If they were playing the combined team of Albion, Cov and Blues and were managed by Ian Huntley i would still pick them over United.

Come on Villa - lets go there and fuck them up

Agreed. I worked and stayed a lot in Stockport for 4 years and the older City fans were really good - they often waxed lyrical about when their heroes were Goater and Dickov and how they could not believe their luck nowadays with what they were seeing.

It a generational thing where anyone in early teens in the late 00's have only known huge sums of money and winning  so the arrogance is the same as 35+ year olds who followed Red filth.

Man City fans are mostly worse than Man U fans these days, it's almost a complete reversal from days gone by.

SSN ran a clip a few times today re the Man City - Arsenal match, showing fans outside the ground prior to the game, and it was a truly horrific hell of half and half scarves, face painting and people who look like they'd flown 12,000 miles to go to an English football match.

It was the least authentic 'Manchester' thing I've ever seen.

Accurate.

The Redscouse and even Citeh have the saving grace of having some decent supporters you can chat football with.

This lot - whether it's the daytrippers or the bandy-legged Mancs - have always been insufferable.

It'll be interesting at the Press conference, today? Will any of the injured players be available, finally? UE was very vague last week with any timescales, particularly as he stated that the players should return in "10-14 days" at the Forest presser on 7th April. Kamara, apart from an uncomfortable 45 minutes at Chelsea has basically been out for 2 months. The players looked tired in that second half against Fulham.

Thought Man Utd looked leggy second half against Spurs but to let Spurs back into the game second half was negligent.

We've had a couple of extra days rest and I hope that shows. Defensively they are suspect so we should go at them. Can see Moreno having a big game.

Think we can win but suspect a draw is more likely. 1-1

He hasn't played a single second of football this season yet, there's no way he's being chucked into the deep end in an unfamiliar role at Old Trafford. If Young needs a rest it'll be Chambers taking his place.

Gonna out myself as a prick, but I have a collection of half & half scarfs. In my defence, I'm very picky. The collection is:

- TNS Vs Legia Warsaw (Champions League 2nd Qual Round)
- Connah's Quay Nomads Vs Ross County (Scottish Challenge Cup Final)
- Queens Park Vs SG Wattenscheid (friendly)

Has to be clubs from different countries, at least one of the clubs needs to be fairly obscure, and I have to buy it in person. That's my rules.

Me too.  I bought them a souvenirs when I attended Real v Barca at the Santiago Bernabéu  in 2014 and the Milan Derby in 2016. Never worn either of them. They are in the cupboard under the stairs with my match programme.  Oh I also bought a Euro 2016 Semi Final France v Germany Scarf - went to the Velodrome in Marseille. A bucket list ground for me.

The better (https://www.football365.com/news/premier-league-big-weekend-preview-liverpool-spurs-man-utd-emery-villa-vardy-leeds-bournemouth) football media is starting to take note...

Quote
Manager to watch – Unai Emery

No team outside the top two has gathered more Premier League points than Villa since Emery took over. Which begs the question: what the f*** was Steven Gerrard doing with these players?

Regardless, Emery encounters a rematch of his first game in charge this weekend when he takes Villa to Manchester United. They go to Old Trafford firmly in the hunt for a European place, having already played the Red Devils off the park once this season.

Emery has improved every aspect of Villa’s play. They have scored in all 20 games since he took over and, in their current 10-game unbeaten run, they have kept seven clean sheets. It goes way beyond a new-manager bounce – the improvement Emery has inspired appears sustainable.

At Old Trafford, their watertight defence comes up against an attack without a fit-for-purpose centre-forward and a defence shorn of its two best centre-halves. Thoughts and prayers with Harry Maguire if Ollie Watkins turns in the type of performance that destroyed Newcastle’s back line a fortnight ago.

Hopefully they're all ready for the final four.

Bailey will actually for once be a decent miss. Man. United couldn't handle him at all at VP and he also had a good cameo in the cup game.

Main worry for this game is Casemiro will do a job on Buendia and Ollie will be starved of decent chances as he was v Fulham.

I fancy a 1-1 though as Man. United were very leggy/poor last night and they have little recovery time and will mostly put out the same team.

Don't mind half-and-half scarves for genuinely weird matches. I grudgingly accept them for commemorative reasons (a Champions League final). That they sell them every game is beyond weird to me.

Just saw the highlights of Villa women against Man U. Uncanny how similar it was to the mens game's against them in the past. Villa 2-1 up on 88 mins. They equalise then get a very dubious free kick in the dying seconds of injury time and hey presto they get the winning goal. We have a squad and a coach now more than capable of righting all the wrongs those fukkers have done to us over the years. I'm going to the game tomorrow and I would love it,love it if we could get a last gasp winner from a dodgy decision going villa's way for once. Well we can dream. I'm going for a 2-1 win for the mighty Villa.

There are no circumstances in which half and half scarves are not an abomination to anyone who supports a particular club. In my view God should bring His smiting up to date.

Sorry,
still got my Athletic Bilbao/Villa H+H scarf from the best away ever in 97

My uncle, who was a squaddy based in W.Germany at the time, reckons it was his favourite away. Commandeered an army truck and a whole bunch of them went over from Germany. Said it was a whole weekend of Villa, drinking, and fighting which was the order of the day for him. Sounded amazing to be fair, how he described it.

Then some years later spoke to a friend of mine who was an Anderlecht supporter who was living in the town at the time, just a young lad - 8 or so I'd guess - and said it was the most frightening experience of his life. Said people still talk about it now, obviously not in particularly favourable tones..

I had a dream last night that we won 1-0 and Fernandez got sent off.  For balance, I should also add that the dream ended with me taking off in a massive toy aeroplane which then crashed into a hedge.

I'm not sure which part of that story is more likely.

I’m Portugal escaping the stress of building a research centre for a few days. Confident Villa won’t burst the stress free bubble tomorrow for once. 3-1 to the Villa whilst always looking like winning. I Watkins, Moreno and Bailey for us, and a soft pen for them. Martinez to hump the goalpost after saving a pen near the end as Utd implode and lose every game rest of the season.

3-2 them. We've all seen this before.

There has been at least one comment like this before most games over recent weeks…chelsea need a win, we know how this goes, Bournemouth scrapping for survival…welcome to 3 points at Villa….Newcastle….etc etc.

We might lose tomorrow, the point is, what Emery has been doing with this squad, hasnt been seen before by us down the Villa, at least not in a very very long time.

Well said, whatever happens this season the future actually looks like it has more than hope

True but doesn't stop me wanting a performance equal to the Saudi game. It will also put my mind to rest it wasn't a one-off. If Watkins can get some sleep tonight he should be able to rip the Plastics defence apart. That said, by all means necessary.

Reading Unai’s comments for this one I’m feeling confident.  Gone are the days when we had a manager who feared them and then so did the players.  Even if it goes awry it feels so good to know we don’t fear them any more and that we are not just turning up to be routinely beaten

9 Bournemouth Lions on our way up by mini bus. A sad day for me as this will be my last travelling with them, as I'm moving over to West Wales. I've known some since the early 80's so it will be strange not travelling to games together.  Although will still meet up at the Villa tavern for home games. Hopefully a great send off  today and Europe next season. UTV

I'm not feeling especially confident about today, I don't think we played very well against Fulham or Brentford although we took four points. Watkins was out of sorts in both games and we need him back to his best.

I know what you mean but Brentford are weird and they smashed this lot, and Fulham refused to come at us for 45 minutes which was again weird.

A team that comes at us is what we need, and they looked invitingly vulnerable in defence against Spurs

I know where you are coming from. I can’t work out whether Brentford and Fulham just managed Ollie well, or whether he just looked totally knackered, possibly after sleepless nights with a newborn? We’ll see today perhaps, but we need a goal from him and being the confidence player he is, he doesn’t need to go three without scoring. I think we should be confident going into this, but need to temper it a bit, there in the top 4 for a reason and haven’t lost at home in the league for ages. I’d be happy enough with a draw, over the moon with any kind of win.

I think we will see Watkins back to his best today. Lindelof likely to start for them and he always struggles with power and pace which Ollie will bring in abundance.

I didn't see the Brentford game but thought against Fulham that Buendia and himself were on different wavelengths. Getting a bit ratty with each other too. I'm expecting both to be a lot better today.

Well according to Sky highlights of last season's away our goal was controversial.....

It was Ollie standing by De Gea as the corner came in but when you see the replay from behind the goal De Gea had a clear view of the Hause header and Ollie was not anywhere near his eyeline.

Think Solskjaer was whining about that in his post match press conference, whatever happened to him.

They're planning to only enter on 18 minutes - the number of years the Glazers have been in control. If that's not funny enough, having spent the last decade ridiculing Man City for their oil money, to a man they all want Sheikh Jassim's Qatari blood money.

Only one way to beat these, play the same tactics as against Newcastle. Obviously we need to score more than 1 goal to counteract the dubious VAR goal they will be given.
As regards our injured players it seems they will be expected back as follows:
Bailey…2023/24 season
Kamara 2024/25 season
Cash……transferred to a Polish league team in about a year, once his injury looks like it may heal.
Steer….will be long retired before he gets over his injury.
Meanwhile, Fernandes, who was seen using crutches earlier in the week has already played on Thursday and no doubt will also be fit today
