Title: Pre-Match Fry-Up: Villa v Brentford Sunday 23/10/22 2PM
Post by: eamonn on October 22, 2022, 02:21:47 AM
Never started one of these but someone needs to, easy to forget we have another game in 36 hours.

It would be a very Villa thing to beat a bogey side while we don't have a manager. And much welcomed.

It's my first Villa Park game since 1-3 versus WardProwse/Southampton in December 2019. It was the day that McGinn got that nasty injury and I'm not sure he's ever quite been the same player for us since.

Good luck Mr Danks - maybe let the shackles off and give Naka and Sanson a run-out.

No expectations except for a curious afternoon.

Gerrard is gone, surely the disaster of Fulham won’t be repeated. Hopefully there will be a sense of freedom in our play. I’ll go 2-1 Villa - Coutinho and Watkins.

Clouds slightly lifted we will play better football. They will score, we will score more

2–1 Coutinho, Watkins. Toney for them

Gerrard was the first manager younger than me, and now this. We need to recruit some old bastard.

I am guessing Danks will play the Gerrard system.
Not expecting any surprises in system or selection.
If Mcginn and Ings start , might as well give them the points now.

I'm hoping the departure of the Manager will lift the players sufficiently to put in a decent performance. If we do persist with the "narrowboat" tactics we'll struggle. I think it's worth Danks tweaking it to use some width, grab a win and put a smile on our faces again.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it, the exact opposite of last week.

1-0

Just felt we needed width. Also, Bailey has looked flustrated and confused so far this season. I believe he has more to offer and a new start under a new manager could just be what the doctor ordered.

Brentford will be too well drilled and actually know their shape and system. Toney will score. Everyone shrugs and we go again.

I’d change the system to a 4-2-3-1 and would still include McGinn and Watkins. The club needs Watkins to start scoring but if it’s not working my first change up front would be Archer. We need to start giving him some proper game time. I’d have Nakamba and Luiz sitting in the 2 and McGinn in the middle with Bailey and Ramsey either side of him. Can’t see it though and I presume we’ll end up with the 4-3-3 due to the lack of preparation time.

First of all the Picnic Basket cafe in Marston Green and choose the ‘Ultimate’ breakfast (one down from the challenge) is marvellous for a fry up.
We’ve played the Bees 8 times in 6 years and not won a single match, do we go into this game the underdog?!

I hope Danke just changes it all around and goes fuck it - go out there and express yourselves - 4-3 Villa.

They have all suffered from the tactical ineptitude of the former manager. The players of course have to be accountable but I don’t believe they were set up to succeed. JJ is a really good player but his attitude at Forest pissed me off. That’s not him. Having him sit isn’t the worst thing and certainly McGinn needs some time away from the spotlight. He’s been really poor for a while so this might do him some good.

For anyone arriving at the ground early, me and my band are playing at the Fanzone around 12.15 - any support would be greatly appreciated !

Don't forget Sanson.

I’m confident we will win which is weird for me. The players have been criticised, I’ve read it’s our fault (we are a difficult audience apparently), expect a reaction from us all.

Pleased we're shaking up midfield for first time in about four years.

Start Chambers and Archer and crowd would really get behind them from kick off.

Has feel of 0-0 though, Brentford have our number.

We are 50/50 on here whereas gamblers, sorry speculators, are piling on a home win. Brentford are 5/1 against. Never seen such long odds for away team at Villa park in the last 10 seasons.

Head-to-head

Villa are winless in eight league matches against Brentford since a 2-0 top-flight away victory in February 1947.

Brentford have never won a competitive game away at Villa, but the five most recent encounters all ended in a draw.

Id make changes and its been hinted he will. Id be tempted to bring Nakamba or Sanson in but because of the way Gerrard isolated them, they’ve had zero game time and might be too rusty.

Think id go with 4231 and probably this team

                              Martinez

Cash.           Konsa.         Mings.     Young

                     Luiz              Dendonker

         Ramsey.             Coutinhio.        Bailey

                                   Watkins

Toney should be relishing playing against us, but i think we’ll get a reaction at a soaking wet VP.

2-0 (Watkins, Ramsey)

Danks has a free pass so ring in the changes!

Brentford have no idea how we will set up so let's surprise them!

Some media  saying McGinn is dropped, at last some sense! I would drop Konsa, McGinn, Bailey and Ings bringing in Bednarek, Dendonker, Buendia and Archer.

Massive game.  Like , actually massive.
Hopefully the players react. “If” they were unhappy under Gerrard, show us today !
Win, we look up the table with hope.
Lose , I think we have a very uncomfortable winter.

Win please lads

Nice to see a shake up in midfield, dropping the out of formers. Hopefully more solid and frees up Buendia and Bailey to attack more.
