Never started one of these but someone needs to, easy to forget we have another game in 36 hours.
It would be a very Villa thing to beat a bogey side while we don't have a manager. And much welcomed.
It's my first Villa Park game since 1-3 versus WardProwse/Southampton in December 2019. It was the day that McGinn got that nasty injury and I'm not sure he's ever quite been the same player for us since.
Good luck Mr Danks - maybe let the shackles off and give Naka and Sanson a run-out.
No expectations except for a curious afternoon.
-
Gerrard is gone, surely the disaster of Fulham won’t be repeated. Hopefully there will be a sense of freedom in our play. I’ll go 2-1 Villa - Coutinho and Watkins.
-
Clouds slightly lifted we will play better football. They will score, we will score more
2–1 Coutinho, Watkins. Toney for them
-
Love that 'not'
-
4-1. Tight first half, 1-1 at HT, but we run riot in the second half.

Brentford will be far too good for our one paced cloggers
-
Brentford will be far too good for our one paced cloggers
No, our internationals will be too much for their bit-part well-drilled amateurs.
We need to start believing or we're fucked.
-
The first person not born when we won the European Cup to take charge of a 1st team game.
-
Smash them. Villa 3 Brentford 0.
-
I prefer the fixture before the pre-match bit. Also, we know it is a thread.
*Gives the friendly wanker's*

Gerrard was the first manager younger than me, and now this. We need to recruit some old bastard.
-
Martinez
Cash Chambers Mings Young
Luiz Nakamba
Bailey Buendia Ramsey
Archer
Sansom to come on at some stage. Let McGinn, Watkins, Ings, Coutinho, Konsa look at themselves in a mirror for a few days.

Haha. We are fucked I think. Look at the state of us, and as for our apparent internationals, some of them have been the worst offenders.
But I still believe we'll stay up. I think :D
-
Villa win!
Feeling positive about the actual football side of a match day since I don't know when.
Players will be eager to prove themselves as individuals and as a team!
Come on the Villa boys and our caretaker manager!
UTV!

Can we have a poll on which of the two pre match threads is the best?
-
When's Gerrard doing the press confer....oh.

Like the comment about the tossers at the end
-
Win please.
-
Brentford were very good against Chelsea the other night. A goalless draw is about the best we can do.

Like the team but Bailey can't play after his effort at Fulham. Anyone instead of him, Sanson maybe.
-
I am guessing Danks will play the Gerrard system.
Not expecting any surprises in system or selection.
If Mcginn and Ings start , might as well give them the points now.
-
I'm hoping the departure of the Manager will lift the players sufficiently to put in a decent performance. If we do persist with the "narrowboat" tactics we'll struggle. I think it's worth Danks tweaking it to use some width, grab a win and put a smile on our faces again.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to it, the exact opposite of last week.
1-0
-
3-1 Villa. Archer (6, 43, 65) Mings (o.g. 1)
Brentford sent home with tail between legs.

Let’s go for it. Get an early goal and get the crowd buzzing.

It's Brentford. We won't win.

0-2

We always draw at home with Brentford, it's the law

Is that anatomically possible for bees?

He'll probably start with the tried, trusted and failed.

Just felt we needed width. Also, Bailey has looked flustrated and confused so far this season. I believe he has more to offer and a new start under a new manager could just be what the doctor ordered.
-
Archer starting? Can I have some of what you are on please?
-
Not particularly looking forward to this. I reckon the team will be made up of the usual underperforming suspects, in the same shitty system.
Brentford will be too well drilled and actually know their shape and system. Toney will score. Everyone shrugs and we go again.

Noted, it is my first time.
I'm championing French inclusion in the team, surely that bumps me back up to a B grade in your marking.
-
I’d change the system to a 4-2-3-1 and would still include McGinn and Watkins. The club needs Watkins to start scoring but if it’s not working my first change up front would be Archer. We need to start giving him some proper game time. I’d have Nakamba and Luiz sitting in the 2 and McGinn in the middle with Bailey and Ramsey either side of him. Can’t see it though and I presume we’ll end up with the 4-3-3 due to the lack of preparation time.
-
Pre-match fry-up. I like it.
-
Who's the referee. With Mee and Jansen in their back 4 and a policy of referees being more forgiving we might well need all 5 subs tomorrow! Can't believe they won't try and kick Coutinho like other teams have done and been allowed to get away with
-

Sadly my feelings too - hope we are both completely wrong!
-
Expect lots players deciding they are injured when they are not and general shithousery, and some think Frank should be our manager.
Modern version of Wimbledon.
-
Pre-match fry-up. I like it.
Ulster ones are the best.
-
If we win we could have a Post-Match piss-up.
-
We haven't beaten them since 1947, they've never beaten us at VP.
1-1
-

1-1
I'd take that tbh.
-
The no manager bounce, 2-0 to Villa.
-
Irrespective of Gerrards departure, player confidence must be at an all time low. Brentford are organised and well coached - 2-0 to them.
-
Pre-match fry-up. I like it.
Ulster ones are the best.
Either way, smoked back bacon, two poached duck eggs (over over easy), mushrooms fried in garlic butter, soy sauce and Saxa ground black pepper, black and white pudding and potato bread please. I'll pop over around 12.30.
-
I'm staying with Olof's Beard in Tamworth, I'll make sure he has stocked-up.
-
Who the fuck uses 'over easy' when cooking eggs?
-
I'm staying with Olof's Beard in Tamworth, I'll make sure he has stocked-up.
Good man, *checks Tamworth to B6 traffic times* I'll be around at 12.15.
-
Who the fuck uses 'over easy' when cooking eggs?
What can I say, I don't care for eggs fried and sunny side up.
-
How do you flip a poaching egg?
-
Is this on sky or bt?

Tune in to one of them and if you can't find it switch ova.
-
First of all the Picnic Basket cafe in Marston Green and choose the ‘Ultimate’ breakfast (one down from the challenge) is marvellous for a fry up.
We’ve played the Bees 8 times in 6 years and not won a single match, do we go into this game the underdog?!
I hope Danke just changes it all around and goes fuck it - go out there and express yourselves - 4-3 Villa.
-
Is this on sky or bt?
I don’t think it’s on either.
-
It’s not on either channels
-
It’s not on either channels
Whys it on a Sunday then?

Because we played on a Thursday and need 3 sleeps recovery time. Blame Amazon for stretching out their midweek games over 3 nights.

I don't know, how do you flip a poaching egg?

Cheers for the tip, have you done the Challenge?
-
I want to see how this side performs now that Gerrard has gone. If we play a different system and the players start to express themselves more. McGinn dropped tomorrow apparently. I’d like to see our creative players given licence to get forward a lot more and play more centrally.
-

Yup.
-
Ramsey also dropped apparently.
-
Be interesting what shape we play, don’t think JJ has been great either so it’s fair enough. JJ has talent and will kick on I’m sure.
-
They have all suffered from the tactical ineptitude of the former manager. The players of course have to be accountable but I don’t believe they were set up to succeed. JJ is a really good player but his attitude at Forest pissed me off. That’s not him. Having him sit isn’t the worst thing and certainly McGinn needs some time away from the spotlight. He’s been really poor for a while so this might do him some good.
-
I’m sure the fans will really get behind the lads from the word go tomorrow. Whether the team respond is another matter but, fingers crossed. We could really do with a win but, given the circumstances, a draw wouldn’t be a disaster.
-
I think we may see the fabled double pivot with luiz and nakamba maybe.
The fact this guy can see our midfield has functioned is promising - well that's the blind faith that will inspire me on by 3 hour drive there
-

our midfield has functioned?
-
Surely we can’t be as bad as Thursday ? Hoping for a massive response by the players but our track record against Brentford hardly inspires confidence. Draw at best.
For anyone arriving at the ground early, me and my band are playing at the Fanzone around 12.15 - any support would be greatly appreciated !
-
Chambers posted a pic of VP saying let's get it rocking. 3-4-3 wouldn't shock me tomorrow with Chambers in the back 3, Cash and Young wide.

like a lawnmower without a blade
-
I'd play Nakamba, Archer, Buendia, Chambers and Dendoncker - fuck it, why not?
-
That would be a really poor choice if you mean young and cash as midfielders. I hope it’s two sitting in midfield, and three behind a striker.
-
Team leaked to the media already?
-
I'd play Nakamba, Archer, Buendia, Chambers and Dendoncker - fuck it, why not?
Don't forget Sanson.
-
Martinez
Young
Mings (captain)
Chambers
Cash
Luiz
Dendoncker
Bailey
Buendia
Watkins
Ings
-
Fear Brentford will be too slick for our plodders but with a cranked up VP you never know.
-

I’m confident we will win which is weird for me. The players have been criticised, I’ve read it’s our fault (we are a difficult audience apparently), expect a reaction from us all.
-
I want to see us go for it tomorrow. Bring in Sanson and Doug, Coutinho, Buendia, Bailey behind Cam. 4 at the back. No fucking around. Out to win
-
Martinez
Young
Ming's
Chambers
Cash
Luiz
Sanson
Watkins
Countinho
Buendia
Archer
-
Back five
Sanson Luiz Nakamba Ramsey
Watkins Archer
-
That would be a horrendous selection. 4 centre mids?!
-
Martinez
Cash
Young
Bednarek
Mings
Luiz
Sanson
Buendia
Coutinho
Bailey
Archer
-
I can see us playing something like...
Martinez
Cash. Konsa. Mings. Young
Nakamba
Buendia Luiz Sanson
Coutinho
Watkins
.
-
Pleased we're shaking up midfield for first time in about four years.
Start Chambers and Archer and crowd would really get behind them from kick off.
Has feel of 0-0 though, Brentford have our number.
-
As does any side that can pass and move!
-
McGinn & Ramsey dropped
-
How do people know who has been dropped?!?

Whatever the team, a roaring Villa Park and a great performance to shut up Gerrard's lackeys in the media.
-
It’s a gloomy day in Birmingham…….
-
I'd make a few changes for this. I'd bring in Chambers for Konsa, Sanson for McGinn and Archer and Buendia for Ings and Bailey.
-
We are 50/50 on here whereas gamblers, sorry speculators, are piling on a home win. Brentford are 5/1 against. Never seen such long odds for away team at Villa park in the last 10 seasons.

Agreed. Good shout

Understatement of the year, it’s absolutely pissing down.

Leathering it down just outside of Brum here. Ugh
-
My sons first game today. And it's under a caretaker manager in the pissing down rain. I'm sure he'll love it 😐

Where are you getting 5/1?
-
Head-to-head
Villa are winless in eight league matches against Brentford since a 2-0 top-flight away victory in February 1947.
Brentford have never won a competitive game away at Villa, but the five most recent encounters all ended in a draw.
-
Waterlogged pitch?
-
One thing's for sure. Anyone visiting the cathedral today is going to get soaked.
-
I'd play Nakamba, Archer, Buendia, Chambers and Dendoncker - fuck it, why not?
Because Dendoncker looks slightly less nimble than me and I'm 53 and very overweight
-
Id make changes and its been hinted he will. Id be tempted to bring Nakamba or Sanson in but because of the way Gerrard isolated them, they’ve had zero game time and might be too rusty.
Think id go with 4231 and probably this team
Martinez
Cash. Konsa. Mings. Young
Luiz Dendonker
Ramsey. Coutinhio. Bailey
Watkins
Toney should be relishing playing against us, but i think we’ll get a reaction at a soaking wet VP.
2-0 (Watkins, Ramsey)
-
Danks has a free pass so ring in the changes!
Brentford have no idea how we will set up so let's surprise them!
Some media saying McGinn is dropped, at last some sense! I would drop Konsa, McGinn, Bailey and Ings bringing in Bednarek, Dendonker, Buendia and Archer.
-
I hope he does use this chance to make changes. I’m dreading the same team turning up

-
Massive game. Like , actually massive.
Hopefully the players react. “If” they were unhappy under Gerrard, show us today !
Win, we look up the table with hope.
Lose , I think we have a very uncomfortable winter.
Win please lads

Anybody heading down the M6 from the north, check the traffic as it backed up past junction 7 at the moment.

There's one flowing by Witton Station, see above.

Nice to see a shake up in midfield, dropping the out of formers. Hopefully more solid and frees up Buendia and Bailey to attack more.
