Purely for a bit of fun, if you had to pick 2 players from each of the current bottom six teams, which players would you bring in? It’s not about who is gettable or whether they are loanees, just who you think would enhance our squad.
For me, it would be:
Burnley: McNeil (9) and Charlie Taylor (4)
Brighton: Trossard (1) and Ben White (2)
Jawdies: Lascelles (8 and Hayden (7)
Fulham: Joachim Andersen (3) and Harrison Reed (6)
Bitters: Darnell Furlong (12) and Conor Gallagher (11)
SheffU: Sander Berge (5) and John Fleck (10)
The numbers represent my order of preference.
Bear in mind my knowledge of several of these players is limited to what I’ve bothered to watch in the last few months.
-
None of them.
-
I quite like Conor Gallagher and the chap who plays up front for them Diagne. Decordova-Reid (whatever his name is) is not bad for Fulham either.
-
Lamptey and lallana from Brighton
McNeill from Burnley would probably be the lot
-
Forgot about Lamperty.
-
Not on the list but Lookman / Pererira as squad players.
-
Bissouma from Brighton. McNeill from Burnley. Two good players and would make a difference to us.
-
Lookman from Fulham and St Maximin from the Sobonthetyners.
-
Out of that list Anderson and McNeil look quality to me.
-
Mitrovic and Loftus-Cheek from Fulham.
I suspect Diangana could do okay in a better side than Albion
I have always rated Dunk at Brighton and Maupay and Welbeck are half decent
Wood, Mee, Tarkowski, Peacock-Farrell, Rodriguez and Barnes at Burnley.
Wilson and Hendrick at Newcastle.
At a push my top three from that lot would be Dunk, Loftus-Cheek and Wilson.
-
Lamptey and McNeil.
-
Burnley: none
Brighton: Lamptey
Newcastle: Saint-Maximin. He'd be brilliant to watch under an attack-minded manager.
Fulham: maybe that twat that turned us down so we could sit him on the bench. The twat.
Sheffield United: Fleck isn't too bad, based on what I've seen. Would have him as cover if Luiz does leave.
West Brom: LOL
-
Burnley: McNeil (2) / Brownhill (9)
Brighton: Lamptey (4) / Bissouma (1)
Jawdies: Saint-Maximin (5) / Murphy (7)
Fulham: Lookman (3) / Reed (6)
Bitters: Maitland-Niles (12) / Gallagher (11)
Sheff U: Berge (8) / Bogle (10)
-
McNeil and Lamptey only.
-
We have been linked to Berge from Sheff Utd haven't we?
-
Burnley: McNeill and Charlie Taylor - we could do with a quality left winger. And Taylor would give competition to Targett.
Brighton: Bissouma and Lamptey - Bissouma would give us a bit more bite in centre midfield. Lamptey would be great competition for Cash. Cash could play winger if Lamptey signed.
Newcastle: Saint-Maximim and Callum Wilson. ASM; see point on McNeill. Wilson, when fit can get goals.
Fulham: Ola Aina and Antonee Robinson - both good full backs.
WBA: Sam Johnstone and Robert Snodgrass. Likes both from their time at Villa.
Sheff Utd: Sander Berge and Rihan Brewster - both talented young players despite not having good seasons.
-
None of them.
Sorry: maybe you just didn't read the opening post: "Purely for a bit of fun, if you had to pick 2 players from each of the current bottom six teams...".
I'm not necessarily promoting any of the players listed - although some could do a job for our squad - I was just reflecting on the range of possible transfer candidates from lower-placed clubs during this boring international break.
-
Brighton - Bissouma & Webster / White & Lamptey. I actually tthink Bissouma would be a great signing.
Newcastle - St Maximim & Wilson (despite the snub I still think Wilson could score goals for fun for us)
Burnley - Tarkowski & McNeil
Fulham - Lookman & Mitrovic
WBA - Pereira (looks very good to me) & Gallagher (young and may improve)
Sheffield Utd - Berge & Brewster (Christ they're a shit show)
For the right price there's one or two decent ones there.
-
I'd take McNeil, Berge and Robinson (but none would be my first choice option) don't think anyone else is good enough for a team that should be challenging for the top 6.
If I had to pick 2 from each
Brighton - Bissouma and White
Newcastle - Saint-Maximin and Wilson
Burnley - McNeil and Pope
Fulham - Robinson and Lookman
Baggies - Diangana and Gallagher
Sheffield U - Berge and Bogle

A few thoughts:
- Saint-Maximin and Wilson: both rather injury-prone?
- Bissouma - yeah, definitely; if we could pip other likely contenders.
- Lamptey - I'd like to see him play again after this current long-term injury.
- Is Diangana getting much gametime at the Bitters?
- I was close to selecting Robinson, Fulham's LB (who doesn't get a first-choice pick with Fulham at the moment).
- A few selections for Mitrovic .... really? I suppose he adds the experience we don't currently have upfront (and, its the lack of experience that would exclude Brewster from being selected).
- Lookman - hmmm, I've thought he looks a little flashy and doesn't track back but he can certainly beat a man.
- I chose Trossard because he looks like someone who could slot in for JG when he's injured.
-
I was gutted we couldn't keep Sam Johnstone at the time as he impressed me in his spell with us. However he hasn't kicked on and become the player I thought he would be.
-
Fulham -Aina as versatile and can play both full back positions.
Reed - think he’s good player from what I’ve seen but maybe bit small like our other midfielders.
Brighton - Bissouma obviously but would be hard to get - I know that’s not the game!
White as back up.
WBA - erm ... Pereira looks decent. Maybe Diagne or Johnstone as back up.
Newcastle - Lascelles as back up. Maximim would be fun.
Sheffield Utd - the centre halves when fit are decent.
-

So we don't need any more, glad you agree.
-
I’d rather go for the best players from the top of the championship who are on an upward trajectory rather than those being potentially damaged by a relegation season.
In particular a winger or two who wound be an upgrade on our current wingers, such as Sarr, Beundia or Brooks. Or as a wildcard, Thauvin from France.
-
Shame we couldn't get on to Aguero's agent pronto as leaving Citeh at the end of the season. 257 goals in 384 appearances is some record. Probably want megabucks but might fancy a "work in progress" like Citeh were when he joined & scored "that" goal v QPR....
-
Lamptey would just bring up constant sad reminders of Nii so it's a Noo from me.

of course we don't - but we both know more will turn up :)

Just saying lioke .....
-
Think Antonee Robinson would be a good pick up for left back spot. Think Fulham got him for about 2m from Wigan and he's impressed me many times I've seen him with how he gets forward so think he can be a target if they go down.
Like Andersen aswell but doubt he'll come to sit on bench and be backup CB.
Of front players would say Lookman and Saint Maximn are only ones that could push us on towards 8th or 7th next season so much trickier and we need to be looking abroad for better value.

I'd prefer to look at the younger 1st teamers of the top six in the Championship, rather than players from the bottom six in the Premiership. After all, apart from Jack, who else was chased from our bottom six squad of last season, and also do you think any of the players from the current bottom six would really enhance our squad?

I was gutted we couldn't keep Sam Johnstone at the time as he impressed me in his spell with us. However he hasn't kicked on and become the player I thought he would be.
He was in the England squad only last week! Brilliant shot stopper still. There are some very good players in those teams. McNeill would be a no brainer and maybe Egan at Sheff Utd. Bissouma at Brighton too.

Pretty much all premier league goalkeepers are brilliant shotstoppers, distribution and command of the area are far more important qualities to look at at this level and Johnstone isn't great at either, which is a big part of why the Baggies have the worst defensive record in the league.

see also Pope's piss-poor distribution for England.

I'd go for Saint-Maximin even if the Barcodes stay up.
