Played some friendlies against some east europeans in the 1950s  making themselves one of the biggest clubs in world football.
Also I've just mentioned Steve Bull in the same sentence as Lineker, Greaves, Lofthouse.
Respect.

You won't find a more odd set of fans anywhere in England, weird as fuck they are.

Don't think we've won there since the days when the only crowd they would see is when we rolled up every year for the annual Pre-Season Friendly.

Probably 2-1 to them.

So difficult to predict but law of averages points to a draw.

They've changed to a back 4, which I don't think suits them at all.

Barkley ought to be back and I'd bring him straight in. Feel him in that advanced roll will cause them a lot of problems.

Their supporters will be building up for this one, big derby for them, personally behind blues, baggies and Coventry on my local derby radar, just another match I want us to win. Them lot have spent more time going on about how much better they are than us over the last few years, rather than enjoying the moment.
Saying all that, they have a really top manager & have had a very good team for three years or so. Losing Himinez after selling Jota is a blow for them. They still have a good midfield that we’ll have to get to grips with and Smith will have to come up with a better plan than last year for Traore, not sure who will support Targett down the left as it doesn’t seem a role suited to Jack (doubling up on Traore).
Should hopefully be a good time to play them, 1-2 (Grealish, Watkins).

I agree. I grew up in North Birmingham and think I first met a Wolves fan when I was 26. It turns out I actually knew a few more before then, but they were confused and accidentally wore Arsenal or Man Utd gear until about 2017.

Just grateful we are being invited by Wolves to play on their hallowed ground where silverware has been a constant over the years. I imagine our players and directors will be in awe of the capacity of the ground and the fact every sign is written in both English and Portuguese, reflecting the storied European heritage of England’s top team

Barkley out is a big blow, was expecting him back for this.

Anyway we play like we did at Leicester and I'm confident we won't lose it as Wolved aren't as strong as what we played last year.

However just flood forward constantly and I worry they'll pick us off. They actually played pretty well at Liverpool in first half, had plenty of good counter attacks. Only lost heart at 2-0 as then didn't have a Jimenez type to hold it up and buy them some time. Instead the ball keep coming back.

I'll go for 1-1. Point would be pretty decent given we've got Burnley and West Brom then up after so decent chance to get another unbeaten run going and get back into top half.

The signing of Barkley has made us much more fluent and dangerous when we're on the break. We are far better balanced in midfield as a result. We need to sign him permanently if possible and also go on the hunt for a player as back up in his position. It would be ideal if one of the starlets from the academy was ready to make the step up but no one seems to be pushing for a place just yet.

If its the "midfield hole" you're concerned about in the absence of Barkley, then you can't put that down to just one player. I saw McGinn do very little throughout the game, yet the way you phrased your post you put it all down to Hourihane. He was subbed after 74 mins yet that "midfield hole" still existed. Barkley when he plays has to play off the striker otherwise based on what I've seen from him in midfield that "hole" you talk about will only get bigger. I agree all gaps need to be plugged, but that may take a few more transfer windows.

Spot on observation this. I understand the discussion around Hourihane and no doubt despite some positives, he does go missing at times and hasn’t got the quality of Barclay. However, I thought he performed better than McGinn against West Ham and was unlucky to get subbed. They’ve both got to step up on Saturday, as despite losing Himinez up front, a midfield of Neves, Moutinhio Dendonker and Traore is very decent. I feel given Traore will no doubt have the beating of Targett, And with Barclay out, Smith needs to come up with a different plan for this game. Sometimes jack and Trez swap wings and maybe he could look at that to provide more protection down that side. McGinn needs to be much more on his game than in recent weeks and maybe he could push on leaving hourihane deeper alongside Luiz. Or something a bit more radical, like grealish behind Watkins and Traore and Trez on the wings, leaving hourihane on the bench

The midfield hole I referred to wasn't a direct dig at Hourihane though I have serious doubts that he can cut it  in the Premier League. Especially if we are going to establish ourselves as a top 6 side which our owners are striving for. With Barkley in the side we pose a formidable attacking threat which comes from the balance of the midfield. We're also great to watch when they are in full flow as we saw against Liverpool and Arsenal. Those are the performance levels we have set for ourselves which we could not have achieved with Conor in the side but i'm thinking more about the balance of the team not just an individual.

Traore has done absolutely fuck all for Wolves this season.  He's got no goals or assists, and every time I've seen them he's stood around barely bothering to break into a sweat.  Expect him to absolutely rampage down our left then, terrorising Targett and Mings before helping himself to a goal and/or assist.

Traore might be inconsistent but has the mark of quality, he put in a lovely ball during the Liverpool game.

In his presser Smith admitted he didn't know how Wolves would line up tactically as "sometimes they go with a three and other times a four" or who they would play with Jiminez out injured. Shouldn't he be scenario-planning?

Traore might be inconsistent but has the mark of quality, he put in a lovely ball during the Liverpool game.

In his presser Smith admitted he didn't know how Wolves would line up tactically as "sometimes they go with a three and other times a four" or who they would play with Jiminez out injured. Shouldn't he be scenario-planning?

I'm sure hes planning for either scenario but wont know for definite until an hour before kick off.

He certainly did it last season in this fixture. Targett limping off, Luiz gutless effort to stop Traore for the second goal, did Wesley miss a sitter aswell? Terrible performance anyway that we need to make amends for this season.

Wolves were very impressive v Arsenal recently, won reasonably comfortably.

Trez was poor against West Ham but just above does enough to keep the shirt. Same eleven as West Ham but with Hourihane sitting in next to Luiz from the start this time and hopefully a much improved McGinn at 10.

On second thoughts, would it be worth shifting McGinn to the right and Traore in Barkley's position.

Something like

-------------Martinez
Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett
----------Luiz, Houri
McGinn, Traore, Jack
------------Watkins

Is Taylor fit? Hopefully he'll be on the bench.
I wouldn't say that but hey whatever blows your frock up.

Is Cash suspended?  Fifth yellow in our last game?

Fourth, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that stat pop up moments after my thinking 'fucking hell, how many's he on now?' when the last one got flashed at him.

Any rash tackles and he'll pay with the card
Cash needs to be play a secure contact less game

Thank You.

Not looking forward to this at all, as I think it will go one of two ways: outplay them and lose unluckily or get outplayed and lose deservedly.

I still don't know what it would take for me to have confidence in Villa and not worry that the next slide down the table into a relegation battle is just round the corner.

I hate this kickoff time too, we always seem to be the more asleep of the two teams.

It’s the parents that need teaching

Another tough one to call. I hope the team have been working on defending set pieces during the time since the last game. I'd keep Tresequet in as it's only a matter of time before he puts one in. I'll play safe and go for an entertaining 2-2 draw. Trez with both ours. VAR to be the center of attention again no doubt.

1-3.
Or 3-1.
Can’t decide which one!

Instead of guess the goal - we ought to have a competition to see how many times Jack gets fouled today?

If Barkley was fit I would fancy us, but now probably going for a draw. McGinn needs to up his game, very poor against West Ham.

Seems we've got another injury on top of Barkley for this according to Clive tyldesley. Hope it's not any of mings , Doug or Watkins otherwise spine will look weak.

If we play like we did against West Ham, and cut out the sloppy defending at the start of both halves, we will win. Just need To be more clinical in front of goal.
