Absolute wank.
-
They have to get rid of him tonight. They have nothing to lose, they are down if they don't. Get Big Sam in tmrw on a short term keep us up get a massive bonus deal, (he likes money). Forget the style of play & we're Villa bollocks. We need to try something and it is pretty much our last hope.
-
Absolutely pathetic
-
Not worth commenting on the players... feels like Groundhog Day.
Smith Out.
-
A shambles. Smith needs the boot tonight.
-
Aston Villa (R)
-
Big Sam? Have I missed the last 5 years or what? He's been out to pasture fur quite a bit now.
-
Get Dean TF out of my face.
I can’t do this shit anymore. Need a result and we can’t get a shot on goal for 78 minutes and it comes from a outside back.
This is absolute fucking bullshit.
Embarrassing club.
Just fuck off
-
Okay, some will say 'It's Leicester, they're a good team' but most teams would have beaten us 4-0 tonight. We were abject tonight, as we have been so many times this season. As things stand I reckon it's either 'relegation with Smith' or 'a chance of staying up with someone else'.
-
Back to the rancid 4-3-3 that hasnt worked all season. One paced midfield, Elmo as a right winger. Yeah we have a manager that is never going to keep us up, we have wasted months and fuck knows how many games by sticking with him. Out of his depth.
-
Nice bloke but time to go.
-
We are a poor side making basic mistakes. Everyone knows when you are in a relegation fight you have to make yourself hard to beat. We couldn’t be any further away from that. We are so easy to play against, other teams must look through their fixtures and can’t wait to play against us!
There were so many poor performances tonight and to make matters worse they just gave up without a fight
-
Not enough heart or desire. Not enough winning the first or second ball. A lack of quality and poor marking. All things you cannot be stopped from doing by the opposition. Leicester didn't need to play well, it was like kicking a puppy. Call me a pantpisser if you like but unless we make a change now, we are whimpering to relegation. Mings issue WAS a penalty as you cannot put your arm out like that in the box, far too risky. Crap performance, absolutely crap. The embarrassing defeats and performances are coming thicker and faster now.
-
Moderately competent Football Team 4 Half Hearted Lightweights 0
-
It seems like only yesterday that we were wildly celebrating only letting Manchester City score twice.
Utter Blues.
Smith out.
-
And just to make matters worse, ALL of our games are televised to the nation until at least the beginning of May.
Absolute fucking laughing stock.... again!
-
Down and out I’m afraid. 3/4 wins out of next 10 games, not a chance now. First time this season I’ve admitted to myself that we’re going down. Didn’t lay a glove on them after first 10 minutes. Reina had a car crash but goals were coming anyway. Penalty was harsh, but even before that we didn’t come out for second half with any belief. The amount of times we gave the ball away. And if the manager and players get slated on here, grealish has to be included. However good he’s been for large parts this season, he’s been awful last 2 games, it’s a cliche but it does look like he’s given up.
FFS!!! Only bright spot, if large gatherings are banned we may not have to watch the car crash unfold at VP
-
That was terrible. Smith just cannot seem to switch things during a match when it’s clear we are getting battered. How the fook Guilbert and Luiz were still in the pitch at the end of the game I’ll never know both were terrible.
And this system at corners is just bloody ridiculous
-
Started brightly then confidence leaked away from us after Rienas brain fart. Leicester were more aggressive, faster, stronger all over the park.
Guilbert has had a decent season but when he’s bad he’s terrible and this was him at his worst, awful decision making for the penalty and not enough desire to win the ball for the third.
When your a one man team and that man is off form, it ain’t pretty.
Difficult to see where we go from here if that’s the level of effort the players are willing to put in for the manager.
Nowhere near good enough.
-
Smith out ..that's all I have to offer
-
We'll do well not to finish below Norwich.
Spineless charlatans from top to bottom.
-
Can we replay the season starting from August 2020?
-
Mind-numbingly awful. Scandalous.
2 decent chances for us in the first 8 minutes then an absolute horror show.
-
Sigh.
-
Team of pointing bottlers.
-
Complete and utter disgrace . Boys against men and humiliated in every position. Leicester are a very good team but we actually beat them not too long ago. Norwich beat them last week. They started very nervously and we missed two great chances. But after that we were crushed completely. Handed them two goals but they missed two sitters before then.
I'm not sure there is any saving this now. Grealish hardly tried a leg tonight at times. Mings was close to our worst player. We are on our fourth keeper who is arguably the worst of the lot by far. We play three at the back and our centre halves aren't good enough. We play a flat four at the back and our full backs aren't good enough. We play two in midfield or three and we aren't good enough. We go two up top and our midfield are completely destroyed. Do you know what, our players aren't good enough and aren't equipped for a physical battle.
Reina 2 - complete and utter pot bellied clown. Bringing him out of effective retirement was insane.
Guilbert 2 - destroyed all night long and pathetic effort at times
Engels 5 - reasonable enough
Mings 2 - horrendous. Here is a novel idea, when the ball is waist height try kicking it. Woeful in the air, no leadership.
Targett 4 - far from our worst but still hopeless
Nakamba 6 - not good enough but kept trying til the end so extra point(s) for that
Luiz 0 - a fraud of a footballer
Hourihane 4 - out of his depth
Elmo 4 - see above
Grealish 4 - MIA...zero leadership shown
Samatta 5 - tried hard
AEG, Davis ....zzzz
-
If anything sums up how much the players care it was Tyrone laughing and joking as he walked off at half time. What the actual fuck?
Other than Jack not one of them could play for any other club in the top flight. Most couldn’t do a job in the championship either.
Time should have been up for this management team ages ago. If only Smith wasn’t a Villa fan, he’d have been gone in January.
Play the under 23 team with Jack and Super John the rest of the season and let the useless fuckers in the first team rot.
Wankers the bloody lot of them.
-
What exactly does John Terry do?
-
That stunk of relegation....we're gone.
-
Four at the back doesn't work with two full backs who are much better as wing backs and let the opposition in behind them repeatedly without offering anything useful going forwards. It didn't work last weekend either. We were lucky not to get hammered there too.
-
We've gone from playing well for 45 minutes, to playing well for 20 minutes, to playing well for 8 minutes. Then one stupid error or bad decision and the heads collectively drop, they give up, can't be bothered, make more stupid decisions. All our best players are nulified as they are either isolated or played out of postion.
Whilst that's all going on our little boy lost on the touchline looks like he doesnt know what to do, he'd rather be playing Millwall or Bolton where his team can have 80% of the possession.
I cant see where the next point is coming from with him in charge, let alone 3 points. We're now in a death spiral, we'll finish bottom unless drastic action is taken I think.
-
We are dead in the water.
-
Guilbert and Targett can not play in a back 4 with a 1 dimensional slow midfield. They bomb forward at every opportunity and leave us wide open. I fucking hate this 4-3-3, we have looked shite all season with it.
They looked much better in the 3-4-3, but it should be a 3-5-2 with Samatta and Davis up front.
We are the absolute masters of isolater our forwards aswell, how the fuck can we spend £30m on strikers and not create anything for them.
-
Missed the first 20 minutes. Switched the last 25 minutes off in disgust. Championship here we come. At least we might play some games 3pm Saturday so I can go!
-
In two games vs Leicester that in the grand scheme of things didn’t matter we conceded 2 goals and scored 3. In two games that really mattered we conceded 8 and scored 1. Good job lads.
-
I worry we have left it too late to get rid of Smith and get a new manager in. Too few games left to arrest this slide. Smith should have been given the P45 a few months ago. Too many so called winnable games lost, we have given ourselves too much to do to stay up.
-
I am seething mad.
All these bonafide losers can fuck off. I don’t care who we sell off at this point, bunch of fucking overpaid trash.
Dean should’ve been canned months ago, doesn’t have a clue, a shit motivator and make horrible in game decisions. Just leave.
Another group of chicken shit owners and recruiters. Back to the shit for three years, way to support your investment.
-
No post match interview so far.... hopefully getting his marching orders, or fallen on his sword.🤞🏼
-
Big Sam? Have I missed the last 5 years or what? He's been out to pasture fur quite a bit now.
Everton - he kept them up. A club that prioritised what was important and acted accordingly.
-

30 ml and the poor fuckers spend the majority of the game running around chasing defenders with little to no service
Starting Elmo ffs he has no fucking pace in the slightest , at best he is almost capable at winback but a winger ...dear god no.He also gave Guilbert sod all protection. We stuck Grealish out on the left again and they double marked him and if he did get the ball he was kicked in area's miles from the goal.
They completely nullified out the left hand side
Whats criminal is after the shitty fh we come out with the same team again and carry on being just as shit.Smith evidently can not coach defence , can sort out the midfield , can coach a team to supply a striker , can't make in game decisions. The season was going to be hard but this isn't just losing now we are being pissed on time and time again..we go down he will bring us back up ..will he fuck we carry on like this we will go down with a completely demoralised squad which will be picked apart of its best players it will take us months to get some form again.
-
I've maintained that it will go to the last game since Christmas, now I'm not convinced we'll win more than one or two more games.
-
Absolute drivel from Smith post match. Dead man walking.
Fuck off.... just fuck.off.
We’ll see how ambitious our owners really are if Smith is still in charge for Chelsea game. Not an effin clue at this level.
-
Pen changed game , still in it ..says Dean ...no idea what he was watching as we where not even close to being still in it
-
Steve Hunt. On the team bus. With an imaginary noose.
Utter wank. We’ve had it.
-
thought that was an awful abject display---no fight no bottle no commitment no effort!!
too many ineffective legless midfield players, shambolic defending and a schoolboy blunder by a world class goal keeper!
sorry but unless there are widespread changes this side will certainly take us down!!
-
The corner thing, I can clearly see were we're going wrong but I can't explain it, its fucking pathetic. We give Rodri a free header on the edge of the 6 yard box last week which was painfully naive. We then have over a week to work on it so that the same thing doesnt happen again, what happens? Absolutely fuck all, their first 4 corners were all free headers. Bollocks training, bollocks management.
-
Aston Villa manager Dean Smith, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a very tough night. We started the game quite well but then we didn't defend corners well enough and we had a big mistake for the goal.
"I didn't know what the penalty was given for - I thought it hit Tyrone Mings' shoulder - but it was given.
"The penalty award was a massive moment. We were still in the game. It went against us - I thought wrongly - that's my opinion.
"But then we became architects of our own downfall.
"Being hard to beat needs to be our priority. For periods we were but the scoreline is a harsh reflection."
On Pepe Reina's error for Leicester's opening goal: "Pepe had a rush of blood but it starts from our throw-in and we need to do better.
"People make mistakes. He will be the first to admit that was a mistake but there were other things we could do to stop that goal."
-
A couple of weeks ago we were all worried that if we go down we will lose Mings, now we’re all worried that when we do, we won’t be able to get shot of the useless twonk.
-
All hope I had vanished tonight. So poor and nearly all of the players totally bereft of belief-Smith to blame for me for not having the ability to see what is happening in front of his eyes and make the necessary changes at the right time. We all know he is a nice bloke but the timing of his contract extension; Purslow stating the long term plan with Smith at the helm for the foreseeable future an obvious mistake resulting in a lack of urgency in the need to step up to survive in the Prem. As was all the talk of going up sooner than planned-we needed to accept where we were and buy more smartly. We will lose more by going down in terms of players and having to start over than taking the decision to change the manager. Sentiment is noble but smacks of bloody mindedness when it is clear to everyone that sadly, we are again stinking the place out and dropping like a stone.
-
sorry but unless there are widespread changes this side will certainly take us down!!
With all due respect, that’s what January is for.
It’s fucking March and we haven’t gotten a point in weeks.
-
Anobody want to rewind and agree that Premiership security is better than getting to a cup final? And losing it.
-
Any team that sets up with Elmohamady marking Jonny Evans on corners deserves to lose. How the hell does our coaching team come up with that? Much like last with with Guilbert marking Rodri.
Then to hear Smith say he thought Moderately Nakamba was our best player really was the icing on the cake.
Slip sliding our way back to the championship with arguably the most naïve management team in football. It says it all that I'm even considering Pulis and Allardyce as a short term option.
-
Smith's like a broken record.
Same old, same old.
-
Anobody want to rewind and agree that Premiership security is better than getting to a cup final? And losing it.
Hear hear.

We have the best defender of his generation on the coaching staff yet we look completely chaotic on crosses, both open and set plays.
The plan looks to be Mings and Engels mark zonally on the six yard line and others mark man for man. Our markers get blocked off too easily and too regularly.
Defending was comical at times.
-
You just knew Smith was going to say the penalty changed the game. Look at the fucking stats you feckless prick.
-
It seems like only yesterday that we were wildly celebrating only letting Manchester City score twice.
Utter Blues.
Smith out.
And that is the problem, we still lost last week, the difference was Leicester took all the chances (and had two more gifted to them) where Citeh whiffed most of theirs. I don't think we have had one match were the oppositions chances have not numbered in the double figures and I think we might have had four where we had more possession. It has never been looked at to fix and now our players are knackered out, can't be bothered or whatever else is going on. With the rest of the fixtures can you currently see a point let alone three with our defence?
The only plus point is we shouldn't match Derby for goals conceded in a season as I can't see us letting in another 34....
-
Well it was pissing down outside so I decided not to bother going to the pub to watch. Looks like my lack of effort was matched by the players. Fair play to those who went. Looking decidedly grim now. Where will the wins come from?
-
We're down. Conceding goals all season and now they're drying up at the other end too. Hopeless. Absolutely hopeless.

He should have gone a couple of months ago probably too late now, a terrible first half display and he keeps the same set up until the sixtieth minute, Leicester are winning the game and they bring Vardy on before any Villa change. I still believe these players are good enough to keep us up but not under this manager he is making decent players look like amateurs.
-
Read the 2nd paragraph and weep.
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith speaking to BBC Sport: "A disappointing night, a disappointing scoreline. After the performance in the cup final against Manchester City we thought that might be a turning point. We started well in the first 10 minutes. They took over possession and control of the game. We were solid behind the ball but they were a threat from set-pieces.
"A problem for us this season is defending them. We gave away two or three free headers. We’ve been working on it. Individual mistakes are costing us. We need to get better.
"We made a mistake for the first goal. Pepe came out for a ball he wasn’t going to get and made Barnes’ goal easy. One of my biggest regrets was how we gave the ball away so cheaply against a team who want the football.
"We made a big error. Teams capitalise on our errors. We’ve probably made more individual errors than anyone his season. We were still in it, 1-0 down at half-time. Then they’re given a penalty. It’s very, very harsh. It’s his shoulder. It’s a poor decision. They got it wrong.
"When they get the second, it’s a massive moment.
"The scoreline is a tad harsh on us. We’ve got to make sure we’re tougher to beat that we were. We went 4-4-2 chasing the game at 2-0 and it became a bit basketball, end to end. Then they scored a goal out of nothing. Vardy had four of our players around him. At 3-0 their fans are cock-a-hoop and they’re playing celebrity football."
-
We're down. Conceding goals all season and now they're drying up at the other end too. Hopeless. Absolutely hopeless.
That’s what happens when you recruit and depend on shit like Wesley, Nakamba, Trezeguet, Engels, Luiz, Targett and Guilbert.
No one at this club had a fucking clue and the only people who give a shit are in the stands and can’t do anything about it.
Dean is a stubborn fool who made his bed forcing Wesley into the side when he couldn’t even trap a fucking ball.
So many clowns to blame but this horror show will go on well into 2021.. and hopefully not any longer.
Get Maradona in, maybe he’ll get coked up and slap some sense into these sad saps.
-

Well if the players are good enough to keep us up then it's not too late. Changing the manager now is our last chance.
-

I think this is a good summary. We are down. And no point having Smith anymore. I know it’s very very unpleasant but get Big Sam in tomorrow
-

Yes sorry am so annoyed about that display meant to say changes in desire effort pride and commitment but am so pi***d off with them, its affecting me thinking

I don't think the players are good enough.
-
I think there is more than enough talent in this squad to stay up.
Sadly we’do not have the management organization and leadership to achieve that.
-
After a recent match I posted that Tyrone Mings is a Billy Big Bollocks. Some on here thought I was being ironic.
I WAS NOT. I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH A NON-TEAM PLAYER IN MY 54 YEARS OF SUPPORTING VILLA. I HATE THE ******.
-

I said we should have brought Big Sam in weeks back. At no point this season have we looked like we could comfortably stay up and we have sleepwalked ourselves to almost certain relegation. I thought tonight we were clueless, gutless and simply not good enough.
-

Nonsense.
-
Anobody want to rewind and agree that Premiership security is better than getting to a cup final? And losing it.
Can't see any correlation there. There's every chance we would have been like this if we had lost earlier in that competition.
-

Sorry, that was a reply to one of Leeg's posts which has now disappeared. Dunno what happened there.
-
As Bad English said in his post. Tonight we lost Jack. That is hard to swallow. Probably one of the best players in the world, one of ours truly and we will never see him at his pomp in our shirt.
Even Messi couldn’t lift Argentina.
-

No worries.
Luiz is the talisman of our ineptness for me. There's clearly a player there - and you know he'll go on to have a great career - but he allows himself to be dragged down by the mediocrity around him to the point that it's hardly worth having him on the pitch.
-
Steve Hunt. On the team bus. With an imaginary noose.
Utter wank. We’ve had it.
Eh?

Even Messi couldn’t lift Argentina.
We weren’t asking Jack to lift us though..
We were asking an entire club to be better than the shit clubs like Norwich, Watford, Newcastle, Burnley and Brighton serve up every week.
By all accounts, we should have the resources to be successful.. but in four weeks time with our upcoming schedule I can assure you we will be rock bottom. Deservedly so, unfortunately.
Shit leadership + shit effort = shit results, simple as.
-
Quality of the squad is mid table. Character of the squad is rock bottom.

Smith lost Jack
-
Yes, Jack gave up tonight. You can't really blame him. We should get £150m for Jack, SJM and Tyrone. Will they spend it wisely?
-
Who's looking forward to seeing what other poncy hair colour charlatan Douglas Luiz sports for the next humiliating defeat on Saturday?
I'm on the edge of my seat with anticipation...
-
I think there is more than enough talent in this squad to stay up.
Sadly we’do not have the management organization and leadership to achieve that.
Sadly, none of those players have any bollocks.
We either blame the players or the bloke that is responsible for getting the most out of them.
-

I know. It’s totally shit. Another team is going to hero worship him. He is Villa through and through.

It'll be more excuses: 'we lost our three best players over the summer, it was always going to be a transitional season.'
-
Was Grealish 100% fit? Or has he ultimately reached his peak for the season and now in slump?
Doesn't deserve any England call up on that showing tonight or the cup final. Not cutting it against the top teams. But that's in part due to his weaklings of team mates
However would expect him to assert himself far more in matches if he's now matured into an international player.
And I don't think he'll move to Leicester no matter how many BFF are there the way the Leicester fans were goading him what's the score shows how much they wish they had him.
He was nowhere near champions league level
-

That's too easy....Jack is captain, meant to be one of us etc . He hardly tried a leg tonight, that's not acceptable no matter who the manager is.

This myth of £150 for them - they'll all have relegation clauses making them affordable and Mings and McGinn are not worth more than £50m combined.
-

If he did give, it certainly looked like it, but who knows, I think you can blame him. Why give up, win the game in hand and we’re out the bottom 3. Don’t get me wrong I think we’re probably gone, but why excuse a highly paid professional who loves the club, if you think he gave up. We can talk all day about how he’s carried us this season but there’s still just under a third of the season left, so why is it ok for our best to give up, if that’s what he’s done??
-
He should have gone a couple of months ago probably too late now, a terrible first half display and he keeps the same set up until the sixtieth minute, Leicester are winning the game and they bring Vardy on before any Villa change. I still believe these players are good enough to keep us up but not under this manager he is making decent players look like amateurs.
Well if the players are good enough to keep us up then it's not too late. Changing the manager now is our last chance.
I don't think the players are good enough.
Sorry, that was a reply to one of Leeg's posts which has now disappeared. Dunno what happened there.
No worries.
Luiz is the talisman of our ineptness for me. There's clearly a player there - and you know he'll go on to have a great career - but he allows himself to be dragged down by the mediocrity around him to the point that it's hardly worth having him on the pitch.
I just can't see where he fits in to a modern midfield system though SE. He's not a holding midfielder and he's not an attacking midfielder, he just ends up floating around having next to no impact on the game.
Like a number of others, he's clearly not up for the fight we are facing and needs to taken out of the side.
-
Jack has been carrying us for too many games, always targeted by tag team fouling and now looks injured or disillusioned with all around him ( or both)
Don’t blame him for a couple of poor games...
-
As Bad English said in his post. Tonight we lost Jack. That is hard to swallow. Probably one of the best players in the world, one of ours truly and we will never see him at his pomp in our shirt.
Even Messi couldn’t lift Argentina.
Smith lost Jack
I know. It’s totally shit. Another team is going to hero worship him. He is Villa through and through.
Purslow and the owners lost Jack by sticking with Smith.
-
Because he, like the rest of us can see that this manager and this set up is not working.
It’s been pretty apparent for some time now.
-
Back to the game and that was an utterly shambolic defensive performance. We were a distant 2nd best right across the field all night. None of them, coaching staff our squad are anywhere near equipped to survive this season. Even Jack’s starting to look laboured and there’s no one else.
We look fucked.
-

Interestingly, despite Leicester being in third place, the graphic Sky put up showed that Grealish has more goals, more assists, runs with the ball and is the most fouled. Much better than Maddison's stats. He cannot possibly carry this heavy weight week after week.

I may be being over-generous to him, but I think he has too much to do in our ghost midfield and gets overwhelmed. I suspect he's better going forward but who really knows?!
-
Tonight confirmed what I've been thinking for a few months; we're the worst footballing side in the league. When you struggle with the basics, you know you're in trouble.
Shit recruitment, shit management, shit coaching, shit tactics, shit everything. I'll leave it with this; when was the last time you saw a Villa central midfielder win a 50/50? Spineless c**ts.
Oh and before we sack Smith can we first get rid of Terry? I expect Terry to jump ship before he's told to walk the plank. Who would want to be linked with the worst defence in the league and relegation. Legend in his playing days, utter shit as a defensive coach.
-
Was Grealish 100% fit? Or has he ultimately reached his peak for the season and now in slump?
Doesn't deserve any England call up on that showing tonight or the cup final. Not cutting it against the top teams. But that's in part due to his weaklings of team mates
However would expect him to assert himself far more in matches if he's now matured into an international player.
And I don't think he'll move to Leicester no matter how many BFF are there the way the Leicester fans were goading him what's the score shows how much they wish they had him.
He was nowhere near champions league level
Complete bollocks
So he was champions league level in the last 2 games for you ?
He looked fit tonight to you ?
Did he asserts himself ?
It's the harsh truth so stop kidding yourself or kindly explain how what I wrote could be bollocks.
I deal with realities .
If Jack played well in either game the team plays well so can't be bollocks.
Oh and elite top level players impact matches consistently.
Thanks
-
Andy Townshead said, and it must of hurt, " Aston Villa are the worst team in the league and are playing like a team already relegated"
The level of ineptness on show tonight was beyond belief
who coaches this shit ?
We have choices, suddenly turn into a team with belief and desire, carry on as is and sleepwalk down to the championship, bring in a new management team with a short term objective to stay up. No guarantees but we tried.
I guess we are into sleepwalking and looking forward to local derbies next year.
How fucking annoying

Not sure what's happening but I agree with you. On tonights performance he was no better than the other 10.
-
Given our defensive ineptitude and the fact that we now stand alone as the worst team defensively, it must to be truly embarrassing for John Terry. What the fuck is this zonal marking all about? Go and attack the fricking ball.
-
Well tonight’s the night of the uncomfortable truth for me.
All season I thought that we would be ok, and that we could actually avoid relegation. But it’s been coming for a while now - we are nothing more than a mid-table championship team that got lucky last season. We’ve had poor recruitment, poor management, poor defence, poor training, poor injuries (granted there’s an element of bad luck here) but the team are just poor.
I couldn’t bring myself to watch after the penalty. That’s the first time I’ve actually ever had to walk away in disappointment like that.
But that’s it now, I think we’re going down.
-
Final point tonight; this team doesn't deserve our fans and our fans certainly don't deserve this shit team.

he is playing for a relegation team, how could he be champions league level, he has been carrying this team all season, how could that not be affecting him, he is the most fouled player and not one other player attempts to protect him. Yes you are spouting bollocks,
-
The last couple of games I can see he is looking ahead to next season at another club, I think he finally put his hands up and said I tried my hardest but can't do any more.
We have been let down again by owners not seeing the obvious months ago.
-
Can we replay the season starting from August 2020?
Well that's down to Coronavirus I guess
-
The most frustrating thing is its still in our own hands yet we're playing like we were relegated weeks ago. The lack of fight is unnacceptable.
-
We have been let down again by owners not seeing the obvious months ago.
Purslow no doubt convinced them to stick with Dean. Tonight is not the night to blame the owners. We've got 150,000,000 problems and the owners ain't one.
-
I've maintained that it will go to the last game since Christmas, now I'm not convinced we'll win more than one or two more games.
Well we only need to win 2 more
Draw around 4 or 5 and it's possible

What we wouldn't give for another Andy Townsend in our midfield. Or Ian Taylor or Gareth Barry....proper midfielders who could hold their own against the best.
-
The point really to my last above post is look at Sheffield Utd.
Dean Smith could get a team and squad together like that and play his way not be given tools that aren't 100% reliable in creating a team ethos.
It's now becoming a mismatch team and nothing to build on.
Why Andre Green and O'Hare and Davies weren't in these squads all season is beyond me those are just 3 who should be included .
-
What a shit night. Apart from the first 7 minutes, another abject display to add to all the other abject displays under Smith. It then took the best part of 90 minutes to get out of the cesspool that is Leicester City centre at the end of the game.
We're done, absolutely. No organisation, no settled team, no plan, no fight, an entirely shit team led by an absolute clown of a manager and two useless assistants. Fuck them all, absolute bollocks.
-

Not Keane who was like Grealish a player with a lot of potential then. Keane tried his heart out to the end, wasn't enough anyway but he had the two best teams in England after him that summer.

Stock up on toilet paper.
-
I hate to say it but I would get Allardyce in for the last ten matches. We need some defensive organisation, and there's just nothing there at all from Smith. I'd accept shit football if it gave us a few 1-0 wins, instead of the shit football that Smith serves up and getting trounced every week.
-
Got back and I'm still soaking wet as if to emphasise how appalling that was.
Mings and Jack came over sheepishly at the end but didn't venture too near which is understandable.
There was no shape when we had the ball and even less without. Ndidi showed what a defensive midfielder should do although we gave him precious little to worry about.
Playing narrow again meant there was time and space for their wide players., but then our pressing is half- hearted in comparison.
No marking of any description at corners or set pieces, kamikaze goalkeeping, defenders not defending...the list seems endless.
Each time I think it can't get worse away from home but it continually does.
Leicester must be wondering how we beat them over 2 legs.
-
I think there is more than enough talent in this squad to stay up.
Sadly we’do not have the management organization and leadership to achieve that.
I believed that for a lot of the season but not for some time. We don't have the players for a relegation fight and I'd strongly question the talent in a number of them. We lack a solid core to the team and have done all season.
-

The big problem has been defensive midfield and he has not tried Konsa or any one else to try and anchor that position.
I thought Drinky was brought into help but he is now on the bench.
There is no system of play and continued changes to selections and system.
Any one any idea how we are trying to play?
-
Albrighton looked embarrassed every time Slabhead came near him. Far too easy. On the other side, Barnes is a great, young player, a real, proper, old school winger. Obviously he looked better tonight with the instructions given to Freddy and Elmo but still a player to enjoy watching.

90% had gone when the 4th went in, most of them shouting all sorts of expletives at the team on the way out.

Jack is far from world class
-
Pathetic
-
I think the club have a massive decision to make now. It’s achingly sad to say, but if they keep Dean Smith, the club is going to get relegated. They’ll definitely lose Grealish. Bring someone else in who could keep the club up, bring in better players and he might stay. We need to build around a player of that quality.
I don’t think this currently a ‘one step back, two steps forward’ scenario with the current step up.
DS has had to build two new sides in a short period of time whilst losing key players (along with the idiocy of VAR) but it is alarming to see the same issues repeating themselves again and again and again without resolution over a long period of time E.g facing the most shots, conceding most goals from set pieces, etc. Continuing themes that make you question what is going on every week at training and tactically. What was Guilbert doing marking Rodri in the cup final (a player who is apparently the only aerial threat for Man City at set pieces), El Mo continuing to mark J.Evans tonight when it was clearly not working.
Sure, question the squad the club has put together but teams with less resources than Villa in this league are doing more and fighting more.
-
Well, at least we find new ways of being utterly hopeless. We really are a clueless, stumbling outfit who don’t belong in the top division. I’m tired of seeing our players completely outplayed by teams who’s players are better coached, have more technical ability, more desire, and they don’t even have to work hard to beat us. We are an embarrassment.
-

And coaching. We struggle with the basics.
Back to basics get Davis up there with Samatta and give the opportunity to players that got us up.
Reasoning is they have some connection to the club! And Samatta for what he's brought in !
Give them all a go as they have been here the longest and have most feeling for the club.they know what it was like last season
It may be only hope though that won't happen that he just plays those from last season but would like to at least see this line up before season out.
Steer
Taylor
Hause
Mings
Elmo
Hourihane
McGinn
Grealish
el Ghazi
Samatta
Davis
Samatta has been a decent signing in many ways some one who works for team and could score with service
Steer? What happened to "world class" and "oven ready" Reina?
-
There were others equally as bad tonight, but if I never see Guilbert in a Villa shirt again it won't be a day too soon. For me he's been utter crap for almost the entire season and he cost us big again tonight.
Sadly Dean should be fired, however Purslow will convince the owners that he is the best person to get us back up - which is clearly open to debate.
-
The most frustrating thing is its still in our own hands yet we're playing like we were relegated weeks ago. The lack of fight is unnacceptable.
The spurs game reminded me of all the times under Lambert we'd start to look a reasonably competant and then we'd have a traumatic defeat and things would spiral out of control e.g. not scoring for six games.
I'm afraid losing to Spurs has broken this team bar playing o.k in a one off cup final.
It's a trait we simply can't seem to shake off as a club. Other clubs like Newcastle get hammered in a game and then they win the next one 1-0.
-

Purslow should be given his marching orders as well. Loves the sound of his own voice a bit too much, and has put together a car crash of an organisation with Pitarch and Smith.
-
Well that was utter shite (again). The defence are all at sea and don't seem to have a clue who is marking who, particularly at corners. The midfield are having to drop deep to try and help the defence out which invites the opposition on to us and thereby leaves Samatta isolated up front with no service and little chance of scoring.
What the hell do they practice in training and what do the coach's do exactly. I can't see us avoiding the drop and it's no more than we deserve.
-
The one remotely bright spark was Davis coming on. He held the ball up a bit, ran at them and made their defence have to work a bit. Samatta didn't have a sniff, and Soyuncu will never have an easier game.
-

When Gilbert has a stinker, he really has a mare. Defensively all over the shop and gave it away time and time again with aimless hoofs down the wing. Rubbish.
edit: just checked, his passing accuracy was 48% today, that is shameful for a so-called professional footballer.
-
They played like they weren't interested. I'm sure that's not the case, but something is very wrong.
-

They clearly don't believe in Smith, and he's now far too happy to call them out in interviews. He needs to be gone tomorrow.
-
I genuinely fear they’ve stopped listening to him. They sure don’t seem to learn from their mistakes anyway. An absolute horror show week in, week out. A pox on their mansions!

He tried Drinky but he was so useless he made Luiz look reasonable. Konsa was struggling badly in his preferred position so not sure shifting him to midfield would remotely improve matters. We have no-one else, they have all been tried in various formations and our midfield continues to put up pitiful resistance without the ball.
-
Elmo, lovely bloke. As much a Premier League player as I am.
Luiz. Does fuck all.
Guilbert. Must has brain like mash Potato. Was no where near a right back tonight. Appalling. Lonely? That's because you're in the middle of nowhere.
Reina. 36 yr old, semi retired goalkeeper.
-

Agree with pretty much all of that, sadly.
-
It's the hope that kills you.
Up until the Southampton game I still thought we had a decent chance of avoiding the drop.
The manner of the two latest defeats in the league at Southampton and tonight have taken all my hope away.
It's supposed to be a relegation "fight" we're in but there is no fight.
It's very much like 2016 all over again and like then we are rapidly becoming a laughing stock.
I always watch the games through to the end but tonight after the third went in I couldn't watch anymore.
I feel for our fans at the game as they had to witness that and get soaked into the bargain.
-
Really good tactic this 'zonal' marking - you know, mark the space not the player. Incredible amount of free headers to Leicester and players mismatched in height against taller players. Who on earth is instigating these tactics??
-
Hasn't he gone yet?
-
Announce relegation.
-
It's the hope that kills you.
I keep hearing this phrase but in all honesty a lot of the 'hope' ebbed away watching that game. Put it together with the Southampton and Bournemouth performances and relegation is hardly going to come as much of a shock to any one paying attention.
-
I left Leicester last night with all of my hope and belief drained from me. We fail to do the basics. We played well for the first six minutes, then it was like a disaster movie. We looked like we would concede every time Leicester attacked. We could have been 2-0 down before the goalkeeper incident. We mess about on the ball, we take so long in everything we do. I don’t think this team or the manager have got what it takes for a relegation fight, we just crumble.
-
It's pretty hard to describe exactly how bad that was. Not only the result but one shot on target (which was from a full back) is just not good enough.
-
Purslow should be given his marching orders as well. Loves the sound of his own voice a bit too much, and has put together a car crash of an organisation with Pitarch and Smith.
Purslow is shit. All corporate waffle and no substance. He has had his best time and hardwork somewhere else. This appointment was another money hoovering exercise for himself on his ultimate retirement plan. Never liked him didn't trust him. The biggest folly amongst his useless recruitment policy was shoehorning that twat Terry in the coaching set up. A man without any character or coaching qualification.

Completely agree with this. I don’t want to get on any anti grealish bandwagon, as I love the kid. I love his old fashioned swagger, I love the fact he’s a brummie and love the club and I love his role in that 10 game run last year and his role in trying to keep us up this year. But he had 15 touches of the ball in the first half, 15. Coupled with the fact he was one of our worst players in the cup final and could of made the difference if he turned up. Even the best players have off days, but he simply hasn’t turned up for the last few weeks. It simply isn’t an excuse to say he must me pissed off with the management and other players. With us defensively being so iffy, he creates most of our offensive play, hence one half hearted shot all night last night from Guilbert.
If this carries on for the next few games, talk about his head being turned will start, is that really how he wants to be remembered. Loads of players played at a high level for villa for a number of years, not just two half seasons.
-
Can someone please explain to me why Hourihane gets picked to start games - last night he did 5 things of note
1 decent free kick, an air shot (when he probably should of scored), got booked, pushed a player in the back (in my opinion that was a penalty), and got subbed
He had zero effect on the game! no wonder our midfield is so poor 2 are having to do the work of 3 players!
-
All players suffer a dip in form through a long season and considering the amount of pressure to perform on Jack shoulders it's hardly surprising he looks burnt out.
Rather than blame him how about asking some of those other useless feckers to step up put in a shift now and then.
-
I don’t blame Jack one iota, I’ve been baffled for months why the opposition don’t man mark him with one or two players as if they do they drown us at birth. Now they are and we look what we suspected we might, poor.
-
Who would have guessed that when our owners declared last May that 'the sky was the limit' that they were, in fact, presaging new levels of managerial calamity. Looking back, the business as usual sign was there when Smith was awarded a 4 year contract and confirmed beyond doubt with the sanctioning of the signings of Drinkwater, Reina and Baston ( one million pounds for the square root of nothing, a man incapable of playing for Swansea). No other club, with the possible exception of Newcastle, does black comedy as well as we do.Last night surely marked game over for our chances of survival and the (almost) certain departure of the few players we have that can actually play. It is now nearly ten years since we last had a respectable top flight finish, a decade defined by three different sets of owners, managerial teams, managers, coaches and players, each as inept as each other. I don't know when the imperious call for Villa fans to renew their season tickets is coming from VP Marketing, but if it is this morning, I won't be one of them.
-
Well i've slept on it and it looks even bleaker this morning. Reading the posts on here i think every point has been nailed on the head (apart from one or two unhinged posts) I don't want to "scapegoat" but a special mention for our defence. Guilbert was shocking, he looks every bit the French League 2 player we bought. Engels only slightly better. Mings form has dropped so rapidly since his England call up, which makes no sense. Reina, well what can you say about that howler except to say he must vastly overrate how fast he can run aged 37 up against a pacy young 21 y/o winger. Our midfield was woeful, Hourihane? Sorry another one clearly not PL standard. Marv/Doug just doesn't cut it as a pairing, Jack? Looked like he's had enough of carrying all the deadwood. Samatta? I'm unable to comment as he was so totally isolated. Davis made an impact. I like him but he appears to be made of tissue paper. All in all the coaching staff and many of the players are just not good enough to represent Aston Villa Football Club. Off to Cheltenham today. Should be full of the joys of spring but i'm not thanks to that shower of shit i saw last night.
-
Bye then.
-
Bye then.
Bye bye
-
Any belief I had drained with that Reina abomination. It was so colossally idiotic. I still can't quite believe he did it.
-
Hasn't he gone yet?
With a 4-year contract? They couldn’t afford the severance pay, not with their present balance sheet.
-
Guilbert was alarmingly too slow to respond to stopping Vardy goal when on the rebound. By the time Guilbert got his bearings, Vardy was off celebrating.
-
The penalty one was far worse, chasing the ball up the field like an excited puppy. A horrific performance.
-
I didn’t see the whole game through getting ready for work and piss poor 4G on the train. But the bits I did see, we looked alright at times.
But then I saw the 3rd and 4th go in and we looked abject by that stage. No real ideas and the players looked like they’d thrown the towel in for themselves. Grealish looked like he has left the club mentally already. Played it out professionally, but must have been thinking: WTF is this shit?
-
Well they're going to have some nice cold wet nights at the likes of Wigan. This team doesn't have the requisites to deal with the Championship, whatever we try and kid ourselves. They're made out of papier mache and have the combined speed of Uncle Albert.
-
Switched off at 2-0 to play The Outer Worlds (fellow nerdlingers, this is an RPG FPS, which is essentially Bioshock crossed with Mass Effect 2 with a bit of Fallout thrown in. Unlike Fallout however, it isn't shit).
4-0! Lmao, we're dead and buried. Smith has to go. Watching the team back off and let top players run into dangerous positions isn't a great plan, Deano. Time for your P45.
-
What happened to the "we make sure any players we sign have the right character".
What happened to pressing the opposition, setting "traps"??
All we do now is play OK for five minutes and spend the rest of the game watching the opposition run rings around us.
I hate the 2015/16 mob because they gave up and didn't even try. This lot are giving us more performances along those lines. It's not acceptable, and someone needs to made accountable.
-
It wasn't a lack of effort, it was a lack of an idea.
-
that performance was horrendous ,our coaching staff comprises ...dean smith - league 1 player at best , richard okelly - league 2 at best , and john terry - zero coaching qualifications ,,,, and we wonder why we are shit !! as a manager you aint got to have even played but you have 2 decent coaches that have played the game at highest level .
-
Leicester exploited Guilbert's positioning weakness and Engels' lack of pace brilliantly down our right, whilst at the same time isolating JG over on the left; a simple tactic borne of knowing the opposition.
We, meanwhile, have clearlylearned nothing from the last dozen games: still playing zonal marking after having conceded so many set-piece goals seems bizarre.
For me, the worst, though, is the lack of energy in midfield. We know that Hourihane is slow and not very good when out of possession; we know that Luiz thinks he's better with the ball than he actually is; we know that isolating JG on the left is a waste of talent; we know that Nakamba ain't marvelous - in fact, he's very unpredictable (sometimes very good; sometimes hopeless - Lesicester's first goal was partially down to 2 missed tackles by him).
If we know all this, why has the 'coaching' staff not done something about it all?!
The least that we should expect is effort and cohesion - we're not seeing it.
That's why we're done for.
-
It doesn't matter what level you played a conclusion you draw from your point that Smith was a lower league player and Terry won everything, yet we still look an uncoached shambles.
-
also once again we have a group of players that i hate !! there aint one team in the last 10 years that the fans can be proud of and players to ' like ' and sing there names etc .. and so the circle begins again until in 3 years we have another set of players to be ashamed of , totally depressing and not even when i watched us in the 3rd division was i ashamed of us , in fact the opposite cuz no matter how shit we was we was in it together and the players cared !!!
-

my point is we have two blokes that were shit players and are lets say not good coaches and we have terry who has no coaching experience at all !!!!!!
-

By the law of averages across past and recent history most successful managers weren’t top players. It doesn’t matter what level our coaches played at, it matters whether they can coach successfully at this level, look to exploit opponents weaknesses etc, unfortunately at the moment that looks a big no
-
yes but what i mean is ' usually ' teams have a manager that might not have played high but was supplemented by top players as coaches , we have a manager & coach that were shit players and are shit coaches !! and a coach that was a good player but is a shit coach !!!
-
Cant we start rationing punctuation as well as loo roll. It's far too dramatic for this time of the morning.

Spot on. Managers like Wenger, Mourinho and Rodgers hardly played the game. Klopp was never a great player either.
-
One thing I didn't get last night was why we didn't go with five at the back which worked well against them over two cup games.
-
Leicester learnt the lessons from losing to us in the semi-final. They have the ability and experience to up their game, and they did. We, as usual, went behind catastrophically, wtf was Reina doing? Guilbert has become like Hutton, bursting forward and then getting caught horribly out of position.
Grealish can't continue to carry everyone.
Samatta tried.
Nakamba tried. Luiz needs better players around him to learn from.
Hourihane wasn't as bad as some have made out but again needs someone better alongside. We're short of a decent, solid midfield and some pace up front to trouble teams.
The set piece stuff just isn't working, which is a big concern.
Barnes and Vardy in particular were just too quick. They were well drilled too. I go back to my first point. They learnt lessons and the experience and quality told.
We just haven't got the depth to drop a few and put someone else in either.
-
One thing I didn't get last night was why we didn't go with five at the back which worked well against them over two cup games.
And why we didn't go with the keeper who played so well against them in the two cup games (and did pretty well last week in the final too)
-
Did the players not realize that just because there was no handshake before the game they were allowed to have physical contact during it?
-
Performance level very poor. 4 attempts at goal with only 1 on target means we were never really in the game despite what Dean thinks (especially with our defensive record). ALL the players were culpable, as were Dean and his coaching staff.
Jack is a fantastic footballer but imo he's not a leader/captain on the pitch. Watford away and the final last week has shown me that. He 's not reached legendary status yet (see Gordon Cowans for definition), so I want Villa to build a team around him (for many years to come), so he can become a legend in the true sense of the word; but he has to want it too. I sincerely hope his head hasn't already been turned because what's currently happening with him would be a sad way to end his Villa career.
With perspective in mind, we were never going to get 3 points last night. One was as much as I was hoping for and that would have left us in the bottom 3 with 10 to go. The nature of the performance is what's upsetting (more so than the expected result). Other teams around us are still as sh-t today as they were yesterday. Obviously we have to improve and some things do have to change if we are to give ourselves any chance at all in improving performances and getting much needed results. UTV!
-
Very disappointed with the performance we really need put points on board before we get cut adrift.
-

i have to disagree with that post. I was very proud of the side that went on the 10 game winning streak and got us promoted last season. Even earlier on and at sporadic times this season, they’ve inspired pride in the fans, but the inconsistency we’ve seen is mainly down to a combination of lack of quality in both players and coaching staff, I think. Tuanzebe and Abraham might have made a difference if we could have kept them.
-
Vardy, in his period off the bench, showed three times as much energy and commitment as our entire team combined.
Disgraceful.
-

I agree. Once again the complete hyperbolic nonsense that follows a defeat is here for all to see.
-
Vardy came on, a few idiot Villa fans sang a nasty song about his wife, then with his first touch, he scored a penalty. Karma.
-

Yep I don’t really get the taunting of opposition like that. It often backfired.
-
Not a lot to say but we started well (for a change away from home) but then our most experienced player had a mental meltdown leading to their goal. That destroyed the fragile confidence that we had. Regardless of Dean's comments regarding solid defensive shape we yet again barely laid a glove on the opposition. You have to feel for Samatta who like Wesley before him has very little supply of any note. We got away with it earlier in the season as the midfielders were scoring but even that has now dried up. Without McGinn we have no pace or press in the middle leaving the low on confidence defence exposed game after game.
Defensively we have been a mess for a while, the zonal marking at set pieces isn't working and the stats back this up. Elmo marking Evans at corners was commented on by Sky a number of times and we always looked vulnerable.
It is difficult to see where we are going to pick any points up at the moment and confidence is on the floor. Purslow must be using every trick in the book to reassure the owners but their patience won't last forever.
-
Trying to block last night’s abhorrence from my train of thought at work today but easier said than done. Am sure plenty like minded in the same boat.
-
Our *best* play is always on the ground with slick passing. So I am at a loss as to why we've turned into a punt from the back, launched in the air side. We do the opposite of playing to our strengths.
-
After a good start, which gives you some hope, the hope rapidly disappears ending with yet another depressing defeat and performance. Have I given up? not yet, but ask me again after the next 4 games and the answer will probably be different.
-

The game kicked off here at 6am so I’ve had all day to stew on this. I’ve been in an absolutely shocking mood all day thanks to those useless pricks. I really should be old enough to know better too.

what do you mean nonsense !! it seems to me like only a certain few on this site have an opinion that counts , have you had on the whole any liking of any team since 2010 ??? bar the odd performance here and there , cuz if you have then you are easily pleased mate .

To be fair, lots of us at the end of last season were saying how much we liked the squad and their spirit.
The problem is that that now seems like about 200 years ago.
-
This squad doesn't have any shirkers, piss takers, con men, couldn't give a fuckers or highly paid dressing room comedians like the last relegation clowns. Unfortunately it isn't good enough either though.
I don't find any of them unlikable, just most aren't particularly good and are out of their depth in one of the strongest leagues in the world.
-
haha yeh , oh i forgot tammy and sjm , there's jack and mings but the rest can all fuck off
-
Just reading the user comments underneath the BBC match reports - bloody hell we are hated aren't we? Not just bitter Bluenoses but everyone is having a pop.

I wouldn't worry too much Deano. I think it's the same for every team.

The internet is just one big cave of trolls. H and V excepted of course.

Agree with the second paragraph, but do feel there are a number of them who just simply are not up for the kind of fight we have got ahead of us.
-
For their 4th goal I think ball was around their penalty area - Davis lost control of the ball and the centre half for Leicester who was on the floor at the time still managed to beat Davis to get to the ball first and win a tackle for them to start an attack for them to score!
Where is the commitment, where is the pride and the effort to show that you are not going to beat me?
-
I know we were dreadful but I’m still annoyed about the pen. The shoulder is not the arm, end of story. Absolutely no grey areas whatsoever, no penalty. And at 1-0 however bad we are, we’re still in it.
-
You get the luck you deserve in the end. The corner against man city was unfair but we should have defended it. The penalty was unfaiir but we'd given away free headers for fun before that.
-
We deserved a hammering. If we are basing our survival on the opposition missing all their chances and us scoring from our 1 or 2 then we are fucked. Yes it wasn't a penalty, no it wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever, why would it? We were being comprehensively outplayed, it wasn't a 50/50 game hinging on a bad decision, we looked like conceding all night, from the 10th minute onwards.
Blaming refs is clutching at straws.
Blaming Var is clutching at straws.
Saying only the games against teams around us will define our survival is clutching at straws.
He's fast running out of excuses. A 14th defeat in 20 games against Chelsea has to see a sacking, or you are saying that immense failure is acceptable, along with the excuses that come with it.
-
Just reading the user comments underneath the BBC match reports - bloody hell we are hated aren't we? Not just bitter Bluenoses but everyone is having a pop.
I was speaking to a Liverpool supporter at work; his take is that he'd rather we went down because we're the richest and biggest and therefore the potential biggest threat.
We are hated in the Championship for the same reason. We're a big club, and we're arrogant about it too.
-
I know we were dreadful but I’m still annoyed about the pen. The shoulder is not the arm, end of story. Absolutely no grey areas whatsoever, no penalty. And at 1-0 however bad we are, we’re still in it.
I can’t agree with that. We were only in the game for the first 8 minutes, we had one, tame shot from distance on target. They missed loads of chances, that’s not our fault, but I can’t see how anyone thinks we were in that game or had a chance. It is really clutching at straws.
-
IF Smith said that only the games against teams around us will define if we stay up, does that mean he has written off the next 4 games?

I really liked the team that went on the longest winning run in our history last year.
Seems a long time ago now, but let’s not write last year out the history books cuz we’re pissed off now

Yes, that remark was a real hostage to fortune.

in fairness - I did say it looked like they threw in the towel after the third goal, but what do you expect really? They just aren’t good enough most weeks and when the confidence goes, the bottle and effort quickly follow. They have shown it this season fleetingly, but it hasn’t been enough.
-

I think when there's only a goal in it, anything can happen. We were outplayed at Wembley, and but for a great save by Bravo, we may have gone on to win. It's all ifs buts and maybes. We were shit last night and deserved to lose.
We were hammered, but fuck me, if ever there were a team that shot themselves in the foot....
-
Being able to retain possession and/or pass to our own players would have improved our chances of getting something out of the game.
-

That’s all true but just putting the Villa aside, what kind of decision was that? Has there been a rule change I’m not aware of? That kind of decision could just as easily have taken place in an even game and ruined it.
-
Just reading the user comments underneath the BBC match reports - bloody hell we are hated aren't we? Not just bitter Bluenoses but everyone is having a pop.
It's brutal viewing but mostly all true. We are the worst team in the league by miles and will inevitably get what we deserve.
-
We're the second worst team in the league at present.
-
We're the second worst team in the league at present.
..which will take us down. Looking at the performances of all the other teams in danger, we are comfortably the worst at present
-
We're bottom of the form table by 3 goals, as we are on 4 points from 6.
Watford, Brighton, West Ham and Norwich are all also on 4 points and equally as bad as us points wise; 4.
The league is crap. We are crap and surrounded by crap peers.

-
Just a feeble bunch of bottle jobs. Not just the players, the manager and his staff as well.
Completely sleepwalking our merry way back into the Championship with no sign of a battle plan.
The only people I absolve of any blame right now are the two owners who have put their money in and handed someone who's supposed to know how to run things in Purslow the reigns to do his job.
He's failing as much as the players and management/staff.
-
It's the recruitment that's done us in. Secretly I think Smith knows we're championship level. Quite obvious that the likes of luiz are being selected to ensure they keep their work visas

I wrote on the mings thread after the match that I dispute the penalty and it was shoulder ball .
I agree with you and Dean Smith who said the ref gambles and
Carragher also saw it as a ref error

Whatever. We were whooped. I don't know if I ever want to watch football again.
-
At one point does DS get his Mcleish-Bolton moment?
When Chelsea's 4th goes in at the 70th minute?
Unless he has the brass balls to make massive changes - last throw of the dice, shake up formation, press and get a 0-0 (how low have we become ?!) something to build on going into the other games.
Urgghhhhhh its like 2016 all over again :-(

Being able to retain possession and/or pass to our own players would have improved our chances of getting something out of the game.
Indeed, just a little spell here and there where we knock the ball around at the back would have helped massively to take a bit of pressure off.
Unfortunately, at the feet of our defenders (and midfielders) the ball took on the appearance of a lava-hot hand grenade.

With a coating of Teflon.

Completely sleepwalking our merry way back into the Championship with no sign of a battle plan.
Pretty much sums up our season to date. We all dreamed of it changing but last night was a bucket of cold water to end those dreams. Forget a battle plan, when you get into March and you're still failing to get the basics right, you know you've failed.

Not sure when McGinn is back and I dont know where to start with the defence but could we please see
Nyland
?? ?? ?? ??
Trez McGinn Grealish El Ghazi
Samatta Davis

How was the reaction from the Travelling fans at the end?
Feel for all that had to stand there in wet clothing watching that on a Monday Evening
Sorry belated reply...I would say the reaction was resigned. About half left before the end then at the end some booed and other diehards applauded. No 'Smith out' chanting and certainly any antipathy and vitriol would've been far worse under previous managers.

Most of the away end had gone when the 4th went in. Those of us left gave it a Villa Till I Die and shuffled off out into the pissing rain.
There were boos at half time.
-
We made Barnes look like Messi.
A shit show.
No positives. Again.
-
Just watched the highlights and I am now more disgusted than I was last night. Fuckin pathetic.
-
I'm still hurting. Can't remember the last time I was so pissed off with a defeat.

Southampton? Watford? We regularly turn in completely shit performances

On the contrary, it was the least I've been bothered by a defeat this season. I was certain we were going to lose, and I've pretty much given up. Much better than when you have horrible hope messing with your brain.

I think the message from DS saying judge us by the results against teams around us in the table was a really foolish thing to say. It gives the team and supporters a negative message. Plus, it hasn’t worked out anyway. Maybe also part of the reason we don’t get much change out of the teams in the top 10 places.

Ha ha yep, felt pretty much the same. The cruelty of hope / losing after playing really well due to an individual fuckup etc etc.

Villa are just an enigma -highly competitive against Chumps League teams, then fold like a pack of cards in other games. At least we do one thing -lose -consistently.
I hope after tonight's pathetic showing Nyland will now be given the chance he deserves.
The penalty? Shite! Oliver and VAR should both hang their heads in shame.
