Title: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw: Swansea City
Post by: Dave P on December 02, 2018, 06:31:25 PM
Right, we’ve give everyone else a chance for 62 years. It’s our year again now.

We are number 3 in the draw tomorrow.

Who do you want? Who will we get?

Want Solihull Moors at home so we can see their true colours. Think we’ll get a low ranking premier league team at home. Watford or Huddersfield maybe.

To echo cdbwf, they might as well give us this trophy now too.

It would be like Blose away, only at a better stadium. I went on Friday night and the crowd was as obsessed by the Villa as the home crowd at St Andrews. Blose fans showed they are a very special breed who have managed to defy the laws of evolution.

Another year; another third round when the Villa don't get to play at Gigg Lane.  I look forward to the day when it happens and I can be home 20 minutes after the final whistle.

Trivia corner. Villa and Bury have only been drawn against each other twice in the Cup, both times the winners of the tie went on to win the Cup. 1903 Bury and 1905 Villa.

Trivia question. Bury set two FA Cup records in 1903. One was the record final victory beating Derby 6-0, what was the other ?

Unfortunately for that answer, the people who live there rhyme it with 'hurry'.

Would be interesting to get Man. United in their current state. Mourinho's record is woeful at Villa Park (I'm hoping against hope he's still in charge there when we get back up to premier league).

Wouldn't be against us getting a premier league team to see where we're at.

Funny thing is when Dean Smith left Walsall for Brentford in November 2015 they then drew Brentford in the 3rd round the following January so you could be right.

Or Blues at home,  beating them again to really turn the screw...  ;)

A long trip to Blackpool I imagine. Having been a regular down the Moors in the days of Ian Tayor, David Busst, Phil Davies etc, was lovely to see the new fangled version on 'telly. Would love them to do it away but suspect they won't.

I wouldn't want a Premier League team of any standard with our defence the way it is. The 3rd round is due to be played around the 5th Jan. I doubt that we'd have any new signings in by then.

Whilst the League and promotion come first this year, a cup run gives opportunities to fringe players, but please no mullering from a Peterborough this year! I love the idea of testing our current team against a decent Prem outfit and, like others I would love the chance to see how we go against Man Ure at VP- that would warrant a full strength team and opening the Upper Trinity  :)

Old school me - nice easy home draws all the way to the semis and smash Arsenal in the Final in revenge for 2015. Fuck going out early so we can “Concentrate on the League” just once before I die I want to see us lift that bastard thing - just once - settles back in armchair, reaches for pipe and slippers and waxes lyrical about “the game when I was a lad”.......sigh.

I quickly scanned through the draw and didn't see any real stand out ties. Apart from the slight possibility of Solihull travelling to Arsenal. As for the fans at the Solihull game on Friday night I am guessing the ones singing about the Villa were Small Heath fans who were there for the occasion and don't usually follow Solihull Moors. I doubt you hear any anti Villa chants at normal league games. There certainly wasn't any when I went there.

Perceived slight? I heard their crowd singing shit on the villa. How else can I perceive that? Also I know someone who was there when they played Blackpool and got a very hostile response to his jacket with a villa badge on it. Dion Dublin was also abused because of his villa connection.

You can perceive it any way you want. Such as a handful of people there for a one-off match doing what they do best and having no affinity with Moors whatsoever. If you want to get upset by that, feel free.

In fairness, I would expect Robbie Savage to get the same if he was in the tuck shop at Coles Lane for a 2nd round FA Cup game. Not that Sutton have a tuck shop or are likely to ever make it to FAC2.

The Swans make the trip to Villa Park for the third-round clash on Saturday, January 5 (3pm). And season ticket holders and Pack of 10 purchasers can receive an early Christmas present courtesy of the club.

The Swans are offering season ticket holders and Pack of 10 purchasers the opportunity to secure their match ticket for FREE as reward for their support this season.

The club has agreed to pay for up to 2,500 tickets for the tie, with Jack Army members also offered half-price tickets for the all-Championship clash.

Tickets are available to season ticket holders first (one per person). They will then be offered to Jack Army members (one per person) from Wednesday, December 19 at half-price with adults paying £5, concessions (over 65, students) £3.75 and children (U18) £2.50.

Any remaining tickets will then go on general sale from Friday, December 28, priced at £10 for adults, £7.50 concessions (over 65, students) and £5 for under-18s.

A limited number of tickets will be held back for Jack Army members to purchase in their window on a first-come-first-served basis.

Season ticket holders and Jack Army members can only receive the free or half-price offer during their specific windows of sale.

Season ticket holders ordering their ticket online will have to make sure their Swans Club Account is linked correctly to their season ticket account number. Season ticket holders ordering their ticket over the phone or at the ticket office will need to have their season card to hand to make the process quicker.

On Saturday, December 15, the ticket office will be prioritising matchday enquiries from 1pm.

There will be no booking fees charged for any ticket.

There may be 35000 tickets "sold" but my guess is that the number of people in the ground on the day will be much less. I very much doubt more than half of our season ticket holders will actually attend - its not the greatest attraction.
Much as we will never know I doubt there will be more than about 28000 in the ground which will still be a great attendance

Much as we will never know I doubt there will be more than about 28000 in the ground which will still be a great attendance

So regular and causal fans are snapping up tickets by the bucketload, due to attractive pricing and the likelihood of attacking, entertaining football, but season ticket holders, who go to every match and can attend at no extra cost, won't bother to turn up?

Sorry, don't agree. The place will be packed.

I think one of the things that puts people off* in the early rounds is feeling that they'll be sat dotted around in a sparse crowd. Knowing we're well on the way to another good gate will make a lot of people's minds up.

*maybe the wrong phrase. Makes them not that bothered about missing it is probably more apt.
