For some reason, I am thinking that the Albion game is the real acid test. And yet we go there bang in form and with a Manager who doesn't seem to get nervous.
-
I'd love it if we could perform the same against Sandwell Town and absolutely batter them.

Would be fuckin brilliant to batter them.
-
Derby battered them 4-1 at the Hawthorns. Even Boro beat them 1-0 and they're shite!

i dont know much about the albion team . For example which players would get into our first 11 ?
other than the goalie of course .

There are similarities with our team in that they have some real attacking quality (Barnes, Gayle, Rodriguez) but are proper vulnerable at the back.
Having said that, our attacking players are better than theirs and we have the stronger team overal, IMO.

I think the wins against Derby and on Saturday are comfortably the two best away results we've had since we dropped into the Championship. We've had some good wins over the past couple of seasons, but they have tended to be against poorer opposition and they felt like somewhat one-off results as there wax never really any consistency of performance.
As Dave says in his piece though, that kind of consistency is starting to come together and those results do feel like a statement of intent.

Great read Dave.

That's Whelan's goal though. It was on target

Thing is it wasn’t going in until the keeper diverted it into the net. That’s why I’m guessing it will be an own goal.

Would it have gone in if the keeper wasn’t there? Yes, so it’s Whelan’s goal. That’s how they (usually) determine scorer.

Correct

It was just a very bad save. It’s Whelan’s goal.

So it wasn't a save then? :-)

But be honest – you can’t wait, can you? And when did the Villa last have you saying that?
Ha! Damn right. I've always maintained that when we finally start playing decent football fans will ask why we put up with so much crap for so, so long. Welcome to the 21st century. Better late than never. Roll on Friday night.

Rightly so Mark. I usually dread these games but I'm looking forward to Villa giving the Tesco Bags a good hammering on Friday (or Saturday here).

The thing is, you know that even if we do lose to Albion, they will have had to have played extremely well. For a long time, we've lost games where the opposition have been pretty crap apart from a couple of attacks that they've scored from, and we've never looked like it ourselves, especially away.

On Friday night the beautiful thing is we will go out to win, create 10 really good chances and have 20 odd shots trying, probably have 60%+ possession. We might not win but fuck me that’s just wonderful to know we will have given it everything.
