I know there are two Steve Bruce threads but surely this deserves its own thread.
It’s been such a long time since we received one of these.
I have been one one his biggest critics, but well done to Steve Bruce...thoroughly deserved.
Hopefully it a little bit of a lift for him during a sad and difficult time.
-
That’s fcuked that then.
-
Fair play to him, has got us winning again and more consistently than in nearly 30 years. There is a long way to go though yet so as Kippax says above I hope this doesn’t jinx the 7th win in a row.
Still, nice to have some positive news rather than the usual negativeness we have all been used to over the last 5 years.
Who was the last manager to win one of these whilst managing us? MON?
-
Exactly what I thought - is it still a jinx like it used to be ?
-
I don’t know, but I’m sure when John Gregory or Sir Brian won it in the past we followed it with a defeat. May just be bad memory though.
I’m pretty sure that there was a period of time in the Orem when the manager of the months teams lost the next game quite a few times though, hence the “curse” of being manger of the month.
Maybe a loads of cobblers though!
-
Oh no the curse the curse we are doomed😥
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Also let's be honest. We all know it's Steve Agnew deserves an award for our January form.
-
I don't know how much notice manager's take of these kind of awards but it's a nice bit of news for him in what's been a crap couple of weeks for him personally.
-
He is ultimately responsible for the teams results. On the back of 6 straight victories it is well deserved.
-
Bruce will win 10 in a row or more.

Yes he takes the stick when its bad, so fair play to him.

Does he though? I never once heard him say "It's my fault, I accept the blame for that result" when we lost. What I do recall is his repeated indigence at people calling for his head when we went 5 games without a win at Christmas.
Don't get me wrong. He deserves the award this month, at least when compared to the rest of the Championship, and I recognize he's had a torrid week on a personal basis. He has my utmost sympathy, and I don't dislike him. But I don't think he's always faced the criticism well when we've had bad runs.
-
His Dad would have been proud, I'm sure he was anyway.
What about player of the month, surely one of Hogan, Snodgrass or Freakish walked away with this unless it was some flighty Fulham lad?
-
Don't worry it's only the Blues next. What could go wrong?

The Fulham player got it.

Absolutely agree, whatever the underlying reason for the turnaround Bruce gets credit because it's his name on the door, exactly the same as he had to take the hits in the bad times.
I've said a few times that if you have runs like we did before Christmas you have to counter them with runs of wins, almost every season is the same, the sides that make the top 2 are the ones that can show prolonged runs without defeat where they're winning 7-8 out of 10. We're on route to that sort of run now and he just needs to keep it going. If we go unbeaten to the middle of March then it'll be truly in our own hands.
-
Like a lot of others I’ve not been Steve’s biggest fan as a manager , although he always comes across as I decent human being. But credit where it’s due , we are no longer the unprofessional shambles that we were both on and off the pitch so well done! Please leave space on your mantle piece for Feb,March and April’s awards.
Hopefully it will bring you a little joy at a very tough time.
-
Will he get presented with a big bottle of Bell's on the pitch before KO on Sunday?
-

Yes he takes stick and lots of it. There's plenty of threads to have a dig at him on here. Doing so on a congratulatory thread seems a bit churlish.

I've barely been involved on the forum for years, let alone any of those threads.
If the winning streak comes to a grinding halt - or, God forbid, we lose on Sunday - we'll see how long everybody's good grace lasts. As I said, he deserves the award for January, but December was appalling, and we might still be cursing that run at the end of the season when our recent form hits a speed bump or two along the way.
-
Are us football supporters ever happy?
Surely we can get off the ride for a bit and just congratulate the guy rather than banging on about before when we couldn’t put a run together?
Regardless of performance levels both team wise or individually six wins on the spin is some achievement in this league. Nice one Steve and all of the players and staff.
-
Little stat in reference to the 'manager of the month curse'
Wolves boss won Novembers and the next game was a 1-0 win v Blues ;-)
-
Well done Steve Bruce I know you had to wait to get your final piece of your coaching team in Agnew you are covered in all areas now. Glad you stuck to your guns to get us out of the car crash of a club, despite some keyboard warriors. Keep up the good work & good Luck!

Wish it had gone to cottrell

Eric Morecambe is doing the presentation.

I remember Mourinho after his impressive 78 game unbeaten home run at Chelsea came to an end, he said it was time to celebrate, as it was going to end at some point. His point was it's better to enjoy the achievement, than focus on the negative of them losing a game.
We will get beat again at some point, so better to just enjoy the moment, congratulate Steve Bruce on a great month and when the winning streak does come to an end, enjoy the fact it was achieved.
FWIW i think we will continue the run to 7 on the bounce.

And the Gold Medal goes to Usain Bolt, but don't forget those races he lost.
And the winner by knockout is Anthony Joshua, but don't forget in his last fight he should have ended it in Round 5.
And the Oscar for best director goes to Steven Spielberg, but wasn't the last film he did rubbish for not winning.
-
He deserved criticism for December. He deserves plaudits for January. That's how it works when the swings in form and performance are that drastic. Agnew has made a huge difference but Bruce appointed him. So if we are to criticise him for when it goes wrong, in equal measure we should commend him for making changes to his staff, players, tactics etc when it goes well. And right now, it's going well.

Hah, you're a gas man altogether! Like I said, let's see what the mood is like on here when the streak inevitably comes to an end. I guarantee you nobody will be saying "...but we had a great January so at least there's that!" if we go on a bad run.

Of course they won't. But hopefully they'll be saying their stuff in the Bruce out thread or such like, not in a thread specifically to congratulate him on his manager of the month award.
-
So pleased for him well deserved well done Steve.

My apologies Chris, of course you're right. Since you've mentioned it, the Bruce Out thread is busy discussing how crap Henri Lansbury and Glenn Whelan are. Could you help in bringing that conversation back on topic too?
-
Well done Brucey...now lets give the scum a good thrashing, in celebration!

It is beyond me how you can turn a thread about 6 consecutive wins and a manager of the month award into a moan about how we played in December and how he reacts badly to criticism. You must be a blast at parties.
-
Well done Steve well deserved.
But talking about the award as a whole, not just this one, I don't see the point in giving a manager an award for something his club has done over 3,4 or 5 games. The only award that matters is the Championship, or any other league, manager of the season.
-

Must be agony, feeling the topic of conversation slowly slipping away from you like this.
Patiently awaiting your appearance in the Bruce Out thread.
Yours, etc.

Pack it in.

I've no idea what your first sentence means but if it's a compliment, thanks.
Of course a streak will come to an end. However, as my point previously suggested, why bring the tone down and moan about the past? You're suggesting nobody will bring up the good stuff in the past yet at the same time bringing out the negative. Bizarre.
-
Well done Steve Bruce, coaching team and team. Great work! Now let's keep it going and win next months too (the more the merrier).
-
Fair play to him, especially at a time like this for him and his family.
-
Well done Steve Bruce, well deserved !
-
Six in a row is fantastic in any league (except SPL) so well done Steve you deserve this ....however son DO NOT lose on Sunday or at Fulham next week.
-
All hail the Golden Potato.
-
Well done Steve Bruce and the coaching team.
Please celebrate by giving those six fingered freaks a damn good thrashing.
-
Well done Steve, congratulations. No resting on laurels. It’s in our hands.
-
I have disagreed on many things, but the manager seems to have got the right formula now. Football pales into insignificance when you think of the horrors Steve Bruce is going through at the minute
-
I can't comprehend how anybody would want to turn a six game winning run into a good time to reflect on our December difficulties. Pathetic.
-
Well done for January Mr Bruce. It’s all feeling a bit 1989 again for me.
Beat Blues and Fulham, and wolves will start sweating a bit.
