Title: Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa Match Thread

Terry makes it, Jedinak doesn't. So we go with Whelan who on his own isn't the worst. He's just careless error waiting to happen.

Will miss Jedi. Hopefully Glenn has a good one. Can't complain at the rest of the team.

I'm happy. I think that's close to our best starting 11 with current absentees due to injuries.

If I were a betting man, which I am, I'd lump on villa. But there's no value there.

Go Villa!

Let's hope we approach the game in the same manner as Bristol City. Lots of movement, neat passing and effective crossing. Just don't bomb it long to Hogan because it will be an utter waste of time.

Will miss Jedi. Hopefully Glenn has a good one. Can't complain at the rest of the team.

It all depends how Bruce uses Whelan. If he instructs him as usual to be running around like a teenager up and down the pitch, we're in trouble. If he demands Whelan sits tight and keep things tidy as Jedi does, we should be okay. We have younger, fitter and better players to bring the ball forward than Whelan. It's about time Bruce starts understanding the basics.

there was a very brief spell where Whelan looked the part doing just that. It's when he's asked to the running around or partnered with Jedinak in midfield that we run into trouble. So hopefully if he's just asked to do the very simple stuff and break up plays we should be fine.

Team pretty much as expected.
Not much on the bench to mix it up if required. I'd have preferred to see O'Hare and RHM instead of BB and Onomah.

Whelan is too slow. Would rather Onomah played instead. Jedinak is injury prone - he's had a 2 week break ffs!

Agree with that but both picked are deemed versatile I suppose

In the racing post today they went for a villa win as they think we have too much pace for forest. Whether they have watched a different villa to me or whether forest have all the pace of snails remains to be seen then

Forest looked pretty quick against Arsenal!

By pace they must mean Adomah.

I think people need to get over the win over Arsenal. It wasn't even their reserve team. I swear there were players in that XI that even Wenger hadn't heard of. I was certainly lost after Iwobi and Welbeck.

Depends on if the team and style of play that turned up for Bristol City turn up tonight and play to Hogan's strengths.

If not and Villa regress to Bruce's normal approach, a one goal win or a draw,

Think this one will end a draw.  Expect Forest to have a bit of a new manager bounce and no doubt they will be buzzing from the Cup. 2-2 which would be a decent result for me.  Chester and Grealish to get ours.

Why can't we kick a ball to one of our own players? And why have I been asking this question for the best part of the last decade?

Whelan doesn't want the ball and Hourihane is playing too far forward. We look very solid defensively though. Get the second and this will be a cruise.

You would hope that we inviting them on to open up for lightning  counter breaks....

But watching how slow we are when the chance is there...its really just us inviting them on because that's how we play when in front.

I'm really surprised by the negativity.

Plenty of away games in which I could see what's coming to us e.g. Brentford a few weeks ago and it has. Today I think we've been largely fine.

Get the feeling last week is still clouding how people are viewing this game. We've played no worse than we did at Leeds or Bristol City for example.

We play too deep and invite pressure, hoof the ball at every opportunity, can't pass four yards to the nearest player in midfield, and the overall game plan seems to be 'try and nick a goal and backs to the wall to defend it.

To be meaningful, the stats need to show possession in attacking half or the defending half. Knocking the ball about in you own half doesn't mean very much. I find shots on target the most useful stat

Managed to get a stream via Facebook with somebody called Callum holding a phone in front of his TV. Great image but the lad hasn't stopped talking all through the game. Highlight of the half was his man-love for John Terry..

"Cor..look at Terry, he's so strong, he really dominates, I'd let him dominate me. Oh yeah, I'd surrender to him and let him dominate me. COME ON JT, DOMINATE ME! DOMINATE ME! DOMINATE ME!"

Mrs RCF who normally leaves me alone to watch and suffer the Villa in peace is for the first time watching a Villa game, pissing herself laughing at this mad Villa fan. The other highlight was when he let rip a fart and blamed the dog. The things we go through to watch the boys.

Oh and we need to step it up 2nd half, we're playing far too deep. Albert especially.
