3-5-2 with Birkir at LB?

Damn.... giant Twatter pic again.

Mr Shin, can you fix the pic size ?

Bit harsh to drop Green. Surprised Taylor isn't involved at all.

I didn't know that Bjork played left back

Why play wing backs but drop Amavi ?

Unless Baker's playing left back in a flat four

Did anyone get even close to predicting that line up?
Title: Re: Forest v Villa - Match Thread

Pictures from training showed Taylor wearing a protective mask. Perhaps Bruce doesn't want to risk him. Chester could be left back or Thor I guess. More or less the side I would have chosen,  but we need to be disciplined in midfield.

I think Amavi has paid for some poor displays and he's trying something different. Baker will be left of a back three. It's an interesting formation

Amavi needed dropping he's been terrible for a while now.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think Bjarnason should have been given more training time before getting a start. He looked shell shocked on Tuesday.

I'm glad McCafu has finally been dropped, but know little about Bree.

Lucky bag selection, Bruce went with three at the back at Hull quite often so it wouldn't be a surprise if he did again. Surely it should be Taylor or Amavi on the left not Bjarnason or Baker. Maybe Hourihane and Lansbury can get Hogan in around the back of these but the selection looks wildly unbalanced again.

Really hope Lansbury and Hourihane bring out more from Grealish.

Looking at that team and trying to work out the formation! At least we have a couple of goalscorers, let's give them some service...
Title: Re: Forest v Villa - Match Thread
Post by: paul richard on February 04, 2017, 04:54:44 PM
Definitely looks good going forward, and I get Bree for Hutton, but what's going on at the back?  352?  If so, why not Amavi at left wing back?  And if it is 352, then is Bjarnason a left wing back?  Or is it 433 with Baker at left back?  Can't make it out.

Amavi can have no complaints about being dropped - he's looked beyond awful for weeks

I was wracking my brain to think of who on earth Taylor was.

Completely forgot that we signed him.

Ignore them matey. There's still time for them to run out of steam & only make the play offs. Oh, and you might like ask them what they were doing before they built the new stadium (ie 'where were you when they were shite'?). ;)

Open invitation for Forest to attack down our left hand side!
If Forest have a right winger he is going to have a field day, this definitely won't be 0 - 0, we will definitely concede!

Afternoon, gents.

Having lost 5 of the last 6 games we desperately need the points today. Bruce may still talk about breaking into the top 6 but we need to look at the other end of the table too. I'm going for a 3-1 Villa win.

I think we now have a very conventional centre forward in Hogan and a slightly less conventional one in Kodjia who is capable of the unexpected. It might be the making of something rather good.

Great strike by Kodjia. Apart from that, Forest look far superior to our rabble. We don't make space, can't pass, and so on. The list is endless. I don't like Bruce as a manager-his tactics are archaic. It's going to become a pressure oven for him soon unless results change.

Even when they had a lot of possession we had Hogan run on goal, a Kodjia shot which their keeper spilled, scored a goal and could/should have had a second, but we have been absolutely shocking in possession - constantly giving it away ending with gifting them a goal. Will it ever change?

And here we have our problem ... mental fragility just what the Dr denied we had a problem with.

As soon as we concede you can smell the fear from our lot ... and it becomes a car crash.  Just like it was last season just a division lower.

We will need a 6 or 7 match winning run to flush this through

Two really poor teams. Are Forest really that threatening that we need to stand off them a mile?

We do this every game, we start higher up the pitch and play brightly for 10 mins, then slowly collapse back towards our own goal and invite the opposition to attack us. We're not good enough to play this way.

Their football knocking square balls 40 yards from goal. That's the adventurous, superior football?

They're shit. We need to drive at them as they're woeful at the back.

They were able to keep possession, pass it to their own players. That's better than how we played that half. They were always looking for something down our left and we were camped in our own half towards the end of that half. If Forest were shit, what were we?! I'm hoping for better football from us eventually.

Spot on as usual, Nelly. Hope you're well mate.

I struggle with the logic of shipping out an inexperienced keeper and replacing him with another inexperienced keeper. To be honest I thought Gollini looked, ricks aside, better.
That being said, we've spunked money relentlessly on every other position, particularly front men, but we really should have spent money on a good, experienced keeper.

We'll get nowhere near playoffs without a solid keeper. Someone who's been there and done it. That's not a kid. And that's not a perenniell 2nd/3rd choice like Bunn.

Villa seem to bring players who are delivering for another club and as soon as they get to B6/BMH they become very ordinary  or crap very quickly, must be the air, or a long line of poor managers.

It's like we're waiting for the passage of the game to be favourable to us rather than getting in there and actively chasing the ball down.

This point of the game, with the second half having been as it has, is absolutely perfect "chuck one in" territory for Villa now.

Watch Grealish pressure...its like playing with a man down!

He doesn't only look like Ivar the Boneless. He is just as full of himself.
Sets up the goal and then he thinks he done and been excellent.
