Westwood. Just when we need hard tackling central midfielders up pops Briefcase Westwood. Great!

That's a hell of a bench for the championship so if we're ahead or level at half time we've got a great chance.

Well, we all feared and expected gabby would get a reprieve under Bruce but it doesn't make any more palatable. A bit like Trump picking that Breitbart guy.

Westwood ahead of Bacuna, Agbonlahor ahead of Ayew, Tshibola nowhere to be seen. Seriously, there's some bodies buried in Aston and Westwood & Flabby know where they are - why else would they be in the team. Fancied a point beforehand - fancy nothing with that line-up

Bruce obviously sees sow thing in Gabby that we haven't in the last few years, reading nathan bakers interview on the OS it seems the slate has been wiped clean with the whole of the squad and if you do well Monday to Friday then you will be in the team come Saturday.

Time to leave the past in the past and get behind the team now.

Come on villa big 3 points tonight, 1-2 gabby and Kodjia, Sitwell for them.

Gabby will have been told to run and close down probably with a steak pie at the end of a stick tied to his neck as inducement- Ayew has been on international duty so half time Impact sub is his role tonight. Cannot understand Hutton ahead of Bacuna though.

I watched Gabby play well but fail to score for the reserves against Blackburn a couple of weeks ago and was pleased with his work rate and posted it on here.  Then a week ago I watched him play absolute crap against Celtic where his 18 year old strike partner (Callum O'Hare) looked twice the player,
In 90 minutes he did absolutely nothing including missing a penalty.

I hope we win but I am feeling a bit deflated looking at the Team.

That midfield just doesn't make sense. The defence picks itself at the moment but Agbonlahor as a focal point leaves a lot to be desired....like the player himself!

If you're still in in City centre pub get moving now as the queue at the station is ridiculous.  No way will we be there for the start.

According to the Po-Leease, the stewards fecked up the counting for one train and let 100 too many people onto the platform.

Other than that, the train getting here worked fine. However, heading back probably won't be as smooth

Title: Re: Brighton v Villa - Match Thread
Post by: KevinGage on November 18, 2016, 07:38:29 PM
He experimented with Richards starting against Wolves, so that should have been a warning. Picking players on their name rather than form.

Richards played like an absolute turkey in that game, so even if he hadn't been injured, I hope (pray) we wouldn't have seen much more of him.

Maybe Gabby needs to stink the place out once more -as he did under Lambert, Sherwood, McDonald Garde and Black before the penny drops. In his defence, I'd say he is capable of that, at least. A shame, as I thought Bruce actually watched football.
Title: Re: Brighton v Villa - Match Thread
Post by: Jimbo on November 18, 2016, 07:41:02 PM
Tubby will need defibrillators on 30 minutes. Crisp packet Westwood blowing about the place means conceding the midfield, so I guess we're going long? I hope it isn't a long night, but I fear we're going to get fucked by the fucking fuckers. For fuck's sake.
Title: Re: Brighton v Villa - Match Thread
Post by: Matt Collins on November 18, 2016, 07:42:23 PM
I definitely wouldn't have picked gabby though I can see his logic

He really likes kodjia on the left of the three. That means you need a 9. Gestede is completely immobile so it's gabby or ayew

It does basically mean that in the 433 formation we've got grealish kodjia and ayew all fighting for the same spot. Which is a bit of a waste

But that selection, Jesus.

I know over the years a few have suggested Westwood would be better playing a little more forward but I think tonight shows exactly why he's just as shite there. His idea of "movement" is to hide behind an opposition player. I bet he was a bloody brilliant hide and seek player as a kid. He's probably got a trophy cabinet chock full of first place trophies for his hiding talent.

We're still not much to look at most of the time going forward or possession wise.

But I'll say this for Bruce, it does actually look like we spend a bit of time on set pieces. Previously our lot looked like they had only been introduced in the North Stand car park before the game.

They were always going to get at least one.

At least we won't approach the second half like we did against the B-lose. We'll have to go at them again, rather than just hanging back.

They can be got at, and with what we can bring on from the bench, the game is there for us.

You're not allowed to say that last sentence. I agree he's been more effective than Gardner without being more than ok

Bacuna's energy could add a lot either centrally or at right back

Hutton is just so shit. I can't believe anyone ever paid £9m for him. His passsing and crossing is embarassing. I'd genuinely be disappointed if I was put in those positions and produced shit like that

Yup. We've had very little success against their two excellent centre halves. In the air they own us, it's worth seeing how they'd cope with the ball on the deck. Ayew is the obvious choice. Still not convinced Grealish actually contributes much.

Ayew for Gabby, Bacuna for Hutton is surely obvious? Poor marking for their goal.

Ayew for Gabby is a given, but think Bacuna is better deployed midfield instead of Westwood. Gardner  improve beside Bacuna and it benefits Mile as well.
Think Bruce already figured this out and the only reason he didnt start Bacuna is his previous injury. We stuck with Hutton until January. Your right that Bacuna can improve Huttons position but not as much as he can improve on Westwoods.

Get Westwood off ffs. Bacuna on surely?

Or Grealish. Either one will help. Prefer Bacuna....he plays both ways. A point in this game isn't bad.

Good game in the second half. We took control. Draw was a fair result, though our ascendency when Jack came on was such that I'm a bit gutted we didn't grab the win.
I think it was good to see that Grealish and Ayew both played and we seemed to have attacking balance still. They're a class above in this league, so they need to play more.
Lets forget this Gabby nonsense now please. He is trying, but he's absolutely done as a player now.

Adomah was superb today.
Jedinak was good in midfield. The CH's both excellent. Gollini played well. Brilliant save near the end.
Hutton was awful. Gardner anonymous. Westwood ditto first half, but a lot better second half. Kodjia didn't have the best game but was unlucky not to score.
