Sky Bet Championship
Friday November 18
Kick-off: 7.45pm
American Express Community Stadium
-
Hope everyone who is travelling down have a great day/ weekend. Lived there in 2005-6 and love the place. Plenty of great pubs and restaurants for you all to visit too. Hope the result goes our way too! UTV

American Express Community Stadium
The advertising is covering up the real name of the Falmer Stadium.
-
Time to get this Championship fkn party started!! 0-3, dont care who gets em.
-
3-0 Brighton. A reality check. And a team missing/fielding tired international players.
-
2-1 win. Baker to put us 1 up with a bullet header and after they equalise Grealish with a late screamer. Or maybe 0-0.
-
As much as we could do with the win to help us catch up after our poor start, I think a draw would be a decent result to keep the unbeaten momentum going.

Amen to all that. I'll be more than happy with a point - as Albion will be short-odds to gain another 3 points. So here's to football being a funny old game! UTV :)
-
Arguably the best team we've played so far. As much as I'd like this run to continue I suspect we'll lose this one by a single goal. Hope I'm wrong.
-
Thought we would get a result until I heard Jedinak is not going to feature. I hope our MF 3 is Gards, Tshibola, Bacuna
-
1-1 Draw for me.
-
A 2-0 defeat I think especially with tired players coming back from international duty and a timely reminder that there is still plenty of work to do for Mr Bruce and co...
-
1-1
-
Can one of you bright buttons name all the players for Villa that are away on international duty this week?
-
2-1 Villa.
FTF
-
I think a draw is likely 1-1 or 0-0. Could be all hands to the deck in the last fifteen mins. Be interesting to see if Jedinak appears on the bench to help out in the
latter stages of this game. Bruce must be thinking about it.
-
Would take a draw right now, but I think we'll lose.
-
Stephens and Sidwell are their midfield two in a fairly orthodox 442 system.
They're second and a good side at this level, with those pair at centre midfield.
This league, yeesh.
-
0-2 away win.
-
hard place to go,I would take a draw now. 1-1.
-
Anything points we take from this game are a bonus.
-
They've got Murray up top as well - 9 goals this season - and Knockaert scores a few too. Need to be solid at the back for this one and I'd settle for a point right now, but fear this may be Bruce's first defeat. 2-1 to them
-
Really tough game - by far the best team we've played under Bruce and we'll have to play quite a bit better than we've done to date I reckon
Definitely calls for a return of the three man midfield I reckon. Westwood in for Jedinak as he's the only one who can play that middle role
For me the front three should be adomah kodjia and ayew

Matt, I've lost count of the times you've advocated Westwood's inclusion in the team. I despair, I really do.

Brighton 2 Aston Villa 4.
Time we set our season alight.
I've been at the sherry..

Who do you think should play in midfield for this game?
-
Crap preparation with so many players scattered over the world. Crazy that this is a Friday game. Anyway, 1-1 but it'll be really tough.
-
Brighton 2 Aston Villa 4.
Time we set our season alight.
I've been at the sherry..
Don't think we've had one of these since Spurs back in 2000 - 12 minutes of magic on a freezing cold afternoon.
Wouldn't it be luverly!

Reading in the cup, I think.

Surely we've had more than two 4-2 wins in sixteen years?! Christ we're boring, no wonder everyone was glad we got relegated.

Possibly Norwich in the League Cup, and definitely Man City in the league under MON to add to that I think?
-
I think Man City in the LC under Lambert was the last 4-2 away win, although that was AET.

Gabby's perfect nine minute hat-trick?
-
Certain Brighton fans I know down here are treating this like a cup final - almost a rematch from the cup tie six years ago - so I am desperate we don't lose but its just another league game to me. I said we've been in finals, European ties and title chasing seasons so its not very easy to get excited about playing Brighton - which may have added fuel to the fire but honestly these are doing my head in. Since they've been back up to the Championship they're unbearable.
-
I hope that as I am travelling down there for this one, if we lose Bruce uses the EXCUSE players were tired from International duty!
-
A very tough game for us, easily our toughest of the season.
A loss could well happen, at the level we're at Brighton are a very good team.
I'd take a point to keep the momentum going, a win would be brilliant and a real statement to the league.
1-1.

I think Gabby scored twice, N'Zogbia and a hilarious Gareth Barry own goal if I recall right - we were wearing our luminous Green away kit...

If available, Tshibola, Gardner and Bacuna. Failing that I'd put out an announcement over the pa system to see if any travelling fans have brought their boots.

I meant under MON opening day of the season 2008.

Heart says 0-1 win for the good guys. Head says we'll probably lose 1-0. I hope the heart gets it... Come on the boys!!

I don't think any of them have done anything to suggest they could sit in that central role of the three. They all want to get up and down the pitch
If Westwood's confidence is completely gone, or a bunch of morons are going to boo our own player (not the local
Lad who was too fat to play in our hour of need and has repeatedly undermined managers' desire to improve the level of professionalism, but the one who passes sideways too much). Then maybe he'd be better on the the bench
But I remember Gardner and Tshibola protecting our back four at Luton and I don't want to see that again thanks
-
I'd reason that your argument is flawed because in order to play defensive midfield you need to be physically robust, be able to tackle and compete in the air.

Wasn't there one where Maloney scored a late free kick? I think Pearce might have been their manager at the time.
-
No that was the season before where we beat them away 2-0.
We beat them 4-2 on the opening day and they were in financial troubles. 14 days later they changed English football.

Gabby scored a hat-trick in about 8 minutes. Pretty sure Corluka got a goal for them. Was it 4-2 or 4-1? That was just before Man City became mega-rich, although they'd still spent quite a lot under Shinawatra (or whatever his name was).
-
This reminds me in some ways of our game up at Bradford last time we were down in this division in 1987. Ok, we're not as high in the table as we were then but we knew going there would really ruffle a few feathers, so I'm going to go for 2-4. Stuart Gray to score two on his debut.
-
Micah Richards, Citeh captain?! Ched Evans winning a penalty for them... Nil-nil at half time but us battering them in the second half. Not sure which club has changed the most since that afternoon.
Watching this hasn't exactly cheered me up on my birthday but it's worth a watch:

Bacuna and Amavi fit , Jedi saying he wants to play and feels ok after long distance travels, according to Brucie, he is now a "possible" .............Godzvilla!
-
when was the last time that Gabby showed the awareness he did for his third goal to stop his run and come back on side. let alone the last time he finished with such aplomb
-

Be interesting to see, if selected, whether Bacuna is employed in a midfield role or at RB.

Good lad. That is the spirit we want.

Please anyone but Richards or Hutton - the two most positionally inept footballers I have ever seen
-
Did anyone see Steve ' the ginger lampard' goal and celebration last match. Hit one from own half as saw keeper off his line and nestled in net. He then proceed to run touchline and get knockaert Jersey and hold aloft with his team mates as a tribute antony knockaert e father who had has passed away that week and had knockaert absence from playing duties. Touch of class both on and off field. Sidwell decent pro and decent chap all accounts and respect that. Abiding memory of the thumping effort in the thriller at goodison early on which was saw Ashley young hailed as world class and when moyes could manage teams competitively.
Any way 3-2 Villa tomorrow have a good feeling on thid one entertaining game. Brighton make defensive errors this season and think villa will edge encounter

You wont be seeing Richards anytime soon, Bruce says its a niggling one that will keep him out for some time. TBF to Hutton, he hasnt let us down this season. Even when he has fkd up (I recall 2 of late) he has got back and made a last ditch block or last ditch tackle to rectify it. Like ive said before, if we are playing him on the right, our main attacking htreat should come from the left and he should be charged with keeping it a bit tighter
-
So everything points to Jedinak making the starting line up which in his current form is exactly what he and we need. In expected cold conditions a rock hard Aussie getting stuck in is not what you want to face in midfield. I think I will revise my draw forecast to a close away win. 1-2.
-
I'm going for an entertaining 0-0 draw!
-
No chance of a 0-0 draw. We'll score at least 1 and let in 1.
-
An uninspiring 0-3 victory.
That's how we roll now.
Ftf.
-
I expected more from Sidwell after seeing him play against us.
still class on his day, be wary.
-
Have a top night (or weekend) to the boys and girls on the road, stay safe. God knows what the score will be...... UTV
-
I have no opinion on these one way or the other. But they play in stripes, blue and white stripes. They're also called the Albion.
Imagine aping that shower of bitter twats from Smethwick. They must be wrong uns.
More seriously I wonder if Calderwood leaving will unsettle them. A bit like when Walter White split from Hughton and things unravelled quickly.
-
With the possible exception of Newcastle this will be the first game this season where we aren't necessarily expected to make the pace. If we are reasonably solid at the back there may well be a bit more space for likes of Kodjia / Ayew and Jack to play
1-2
Baker & Ayew
-
2-2 or 2-1 to us. I'm going for an away win. I think. Adomah with the winner.
-
I would like to see all the Villa fans walking down the seafront singing "We are the Holte! We are the Holte! We are, we are, we are the Holte!" Then they can go and have sex in an alley before the game.
-
Think Brighton have the best defensive record in the league and are also in great form, so I would be happy with a point from this.
Have to watch their giant defender Dunk, from set pieces.
-
Got the afternoon off work, hoping to get in the first pub by 3pm. Is there still a nudist beach in Brighton? not that it's exactly the weather for it
-
Would be good if Jedinak really is ok to play
I'd still put Westwood in alongside him
Only joking
-

I d also add watch out for effervescent striker Glenn Murray set plays and open knows the goal well. One striker I would habe liked at club. Hemed also a physical guy.
-
Is anywhere in town likely to have this on with the commentary? I guess most places are likely to have music over it as it's Friday evening.
-

There is, its up towards the marina, not that I stalk that part of the beach. Its not beach weather today though.
-
The Eagle, Prince Albert and Lord Nelson are all good boozers with 5 minutes of the station.

-
My first ever Villa match, 1980, we beat Brighton 4-1 at VP.
Goals from Withe, Shaw, Mortimer and Bremner.
Same again please.
-
On my way. First of several trains.
-
3-1 to Brighton. Kodja to get another for us on the counter. Just think this is a step too far for us right now. After Newcastle I'd say Brighton are the best team in the Championship. I have just about everything at this level. They concede very few and are really well prepared and hardworking. Their great at home too. A draw is the most I can see us getting and would snap your hand off for it right now ;)
-
On my way. First of several trains.
Bet Frank is loving this, nice easy journey for him for once.
-
Don't be in too much of a rush to get here. It's currently 4 degrees and pissing down
-
Would take a point now.
-
as I cannot make the game and will be watching it in the local village pub with all the plastics around me "supporting" Brighton, so definitely a win for me please :)
but right now I would settle for a good performance and a point
UTV
The Doc
-
I am going for a hard fought 1-1
-
Toughest game of the season so far, I would say. I would take a draw now, and that is probably what it will be. 1-1 (natch.)
-
The sun is shining now.
-
Tough test this, will serve to let us know where we are ...
Personally, I'd be happy with a draw ...
-
Would take a pint now.
Fixed...well for me anyway.
-

That should be enough to get most of them bit part roles in The Bill for a good few years.
-
I'm surprised people are so optimistic. We still haven't played that well under Bruce and Brighton are flying. I fear a tanking and as much as I hate draws, I'd settle for our 10th(!) of the season tonight.
-
How are all you lovely jebends getting on on the coast? Hopefully getting toasted whilst behaving I hope! Keep up the great support!
-
What local ale will they have on at the Amex?
-

Get down the Neptune after for an unforgettable night. Win win all round.
-
Love Steve Bruce's line on the injury update for tonight - "Jordan Amavi looks like he will be OK.......Leandro Bacuna is fine.......Micah Richards is unfortunately not quite right".
-
Think they may just nick it so 2-1 to them, so hope I'm wrong, cmon Villa.
-
Where's Toronto for the Match Thread?
Legion, don't even think about it. ;)

Hey everyone, Gabby's playing.

Hey everyone, Gabby's playing.
Either a selection of genius proportions or a selection of gross stupidity - we will soon find out!
