Title: Talksport tonight (Monday11 Jan)
Post by: johnny from donny on January 11, 2016, 07:22:28 PM
Mark Saggers has said they'll be discussing Villa for half an hour between 8 & 9  Manchester Utd are the other half hour and he didn't say which way round they were doing it.

Saggers is usually quite balanced unlike the clown he has next to him on a Monday night.

Hopefully it'll be a bit more insightful than the poorly-researched - albeit predictable - guff that Durham came out with earlier in his piss-poor 'Aston Villa-geddon' effort. I wouldn't hold your breath though.

That'll be five minutes discussing Villa and 25 minutes about betting on upcoming games

Pat Murphy was on 5 Live earlier. When I listen to him I can never understand why there are so many Villa fans who think he has a problem with us. He strikes me as being fair to the point of being on our (as fans) side.

Never gave Lambert an easy ride either.

He doesn't ever strike me as anti Villa, rather amazed that we have been bumping along the bottom for so long.

Oh, Durham 'put the question out there' about if it's time Garde got the sack; only one win all season (!) & said he didn't think he was the right appointment anyway. Oh & he said Lerner was flying over! Darren Gough actually made far more of a stab at what had happened at VP, but he also said that he didn't think Garde was the right appointment when he got the gig either. I probably don't need to fill in the gaps - since there weren't any to speak of anyway.

At least they're talking about us on both 5 Live and Talksport. I'm not sure to what depth people expect them to go, given that fans at other clubs will not be as familiar as us with what has gone on.

Fast forward a year and we'll be lucky if we get a mention at all.

Five Live also did a Villa piece tonight for 20 minutes. Murphy was there as well as Andy Townsend and a very good journo who's name I can not remember. Spoke to a Villa fan who was at Wycombe and tried to remonstrate with the chewing gummers. They all laid into Lescott and Guzan and insisted that they should apologise to supporters for their totally unprofessional conduct especially  in light of the very very poor team performance. Of course Murphy did his usual precise succinct summing up with basically said  "the new Villa men in charge are trying to be too smart in the way they do things, too left field such as selecting Garde. How did they not realised that McLeish should never have been appointed as Villa Manager for two reasons. He was at Birmingham and had relegated their tribal neighbours and  next he ended  up with Lerner & Co." Andy finished off by saying that the team just needs to win 2/3 matches to give fans some hope.

Agreed. Murphy has spoke sense day one. I remember him getting grief from Villa fans as soon as Lerner took over regarding the fact he wouldn't speak to the press. He pointed out that it was alright okay while everything was going well but he pointed out that when things weren't going so well the fans would soon change their tune at Lerner's lack of communication.

Ironically, after spending all this time trying, we will probably make our first profit under Lerner, only to be back to square one next season set to make a massive loss when our income drops by over 75%.

MON's huge wage bill also left us with the likes of Milner, Young, Downing and even Collins who were both more use on the pitch and more value for resale than TSM's Given and N'Zogbia.

Well technically turned into equity, but in practice, what he's put in - sales price = write off.  So if you accept he's put in somewhere just north of £250M and he's going to struggle to see more than £100M back he'll be writing off around £150M.

The £200M is in round numbers what he's put in since he purchased to keep things afloat without relying on bank loans - which is where the likes of Leeds and Portsmouth got into trouble.

When somebody who owns 100% of something converts a loan into equity, that's just a posh way of saying "write off". He can't own 150% of the club!

Not quite, he's releasing his claim on the loan and taking his chances on a future sale price.

The true cost of the write off will only be known when a sales price is agreed. In theory he could still make a profit. In practice there's more chance of us winning the CL next season.

No heart.  No desire.  No spirit.  Players from France are woeful.  Can't believe fans are still supporting them.

Considering how little people seem to think of them and how angry it appears to make them, it's a little odd that they don't just choose a different radio station to listen to.

I suppose it is similar to how people regularly visit forums such as this and have to put up with sarcastic twats who contribute fuck all.

Will you be wanting to stay on here?

True, but it's a station that is basically all about football and it draws football fans in.
I don't listen to any of them anymore. I know how shit Villa are and I'm not gonna listen to some radio station like Talkshit and WM take the piss out of us.

Sorry if I appeared to be blunt. It was just a generalisation not pointed to anyone in particular. You know how it is on forums.

Impressive that you know who contributes what in the five days that you've been with us "Martin".

Exactly.

The last five years have been hideous.

Listening to the likes of talksport or motd talking about our shitness would make it significantly worse.

I listen to Collymore but he never lets you get a word in. Hardly a chat show. I suppose Franksy is as bad.

Yeah I quite like Collymore as he certainly saw through Lerner's bullshit ages ago. Call me Franksy is a first class Villa hating twat though.

No heart.  No desire.  No spirit.  Players from France are woeful.  Can't believe fans are still supporting them.

Watching a different game from us in the 2nd half obviously, or they're just on the wind up.

Changing the subject did anyone listen yesterday morning? They had Brian Little and Martin Laursen on. Brian Little did not mention anything about joining the Villa board in any capacity unfortunately.

Yeah it's gone quiet on the Little and King board appointment thing. I wonder if it was just made up?

For those who have forgotten about Collymore's ' contribution' to the cause under Little & Gregory, I suggest you read this damning indictment from  JG :
Gregory blasts departing Collymore ( 1999)
John Gregory has warned Stan Collymore his career will be over if he fails to earn a transfer to Fulham during a three-month loan at Craven Cottage which began yesterday.

The Aston Villa manager made it clear he would not play Collymore if he returns and ushered him off, not so much with a wave as a rocket.
"Collymore has got to succeed at Fulham because he has nowhere else to run," Gregory said. "This could be the last opportunity for him and I have told him that. I would not think there was a chance of my taking him back and letting him play for Villa again.
"I suppose in a way he cannot lose because if he falls flat on his face he can come back here knowing he still has 21 months left on his contract."
That contract is worth £20,000 a week and Gregory is desperate to offload the club's record signing, whose seven Premiership goals have cost £1m each since he joined from Liverpool two seasons ago. Of the seven goals he scored in all competitions last season, three came against the Norwegian part-timers Stromsgodset and two were against Hull City.
"He had plenty of opportunity here," Gregory said. "I'm the third or fourth manager he's had in the last four years and we've all ended up pulling our hair out. He returned for pre-season training with the promises I had heard before.
"There were promises made to my predecessor Brian Little, to the Villa board and to the supporters. But they never materialised. If this move to Fulham doesn't happen I suppose he will have to come back here but, as far as I'm concerned, his career will be finished... As a manager you can only do so much for a player; you cannot wet-nurse him"

From asking around, it seems to have started because Little was seen talking to Fox at Wycombe and King had been tipped as chairman.

Collymore was suffering from depression during that period, and from what I've read even Gregory regrets the attitude he had towards Collymore at that time, so what you've dug up and posted just isn't relevant.

I remember it very well. Something along the lines of "Depression!? He is on 20 grand a week... etc..etc"
