Hutton should be an improvement. Sad to see no Gana still. Gabby must have a picture of Sherwood performing unnatural acts with animals stashed away somewhere. Hopefully Veretout will come on rather than Ayew in practically every conceivable circumstance. Oh, and fuck the fuckers!

Taking into account the injuries, I'm ok with the starting line up

It's Tim getting the subs right that worries me

To be fair Gabbys running caused Leicester problems last week.

He set up Gil's goal, plus when he went off we no longer had an outlet. Not that he was keeping it but he was pinning defenders back a bit. Gil starts, which is great news.

Decent enough starting line up. I just hope we've pre-printed Veretout's name onto the sub's sheet for the fourth official.

I'm still miffed on Kozak!?

Gil didn't practice all week, don't know if he'll pair well with Westwood against the bags.

So dumb we don't utilize Kozak , oh well it's a lost cause at this point.

Fuck em up.

45 minute hold up getting out of Milton Keynes then found the junction (14) was shut down due to a lorry shed load I think, nothing to do with motorways but I'm sure they are busy as well

Anyway I cut my losses and went home as my little lad was needing a wee

Here's hoping Gabby turns up.

Here's hoping he and Sinclair get some service.

I liked there movement first half last week, mixing it up, opening up spaces for Grealish and Gil to exploit. More of same today chaps, preferably in both halves.

Need to win this one, Hutton in for Bacuna is a no brainer but dont think the set up in midfield is right yet.

Would be happier to see Amavi playing it safe defensively today, has gone to pot defensively late on in games for us costing us points.

Gil playing far too narrow at the moment, cant see Hutton getting any protection if Gil continues to play in the middle of the pitch

Need to move either Gabby or Sinclair to the right pretty quickly as they have got a run on us in midfield already

Title: Re: Aston Villa v West Bromwich Albion - Match Thread
Post by: SamTheMouse on September 19, 2015, 03:21:34 PM
We don't really have a focal point for out attacks, do we? We're missing someone up front who can protect the ball and allow the other attackers to pivot around him. If we're going to play with these four up front, who are mobile, then they need to have a really good understanding and excellent passing in tight spaces.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v West Bromwich Albion - Match Thread
Post by: citizenDJ on September 19, 2015, 03:21:45 PM
Yeah, it's light years away from the shite that Lambert and McLeish used to serve up. I think it will pay off in the long term too. It would be good to get a few positive results in the here and now, though!

Floated passes up to Gabby aren't going to work against this lot in a million years.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v West Bromwich Albion - Match Thread
Post by: citizenDJ on September 19, 2015, 03:23:42 PM
Huh. I must say I think Gestede would be the better bet up front against this lot.

Unfortunately I disagree. We've hoofed at least 6 or 7 long balls to Gabby already.

It's not working.

True but his movement is non existent too, should be looking for a ball down the side of the centre halves to run onto

We need to play more compact, lots of give and gos, keep the four forwards constantly moving and zipping the ball about. When it slows down, they're too comfortable.

We look bad in the most dangerous way - the always-lose-never-win way. We have a decent keeper (despite the recent criticism he's undoubtedly a decent keeper), a defence which, on paper, looks fine, perfectly acceptable footballers in midfield, variety and excitement in attacking midfield and a problem up front. However, despite how promising we look, the same thing happens every week - we either lose or don't win. It's very dangerous to just look like you're going to lose every game.

Well, no. I don't think we are. This is a pretty close game I think, and we've been playing some decent stuff and have conceded a pretty unfortunate goal.

Our record is shit, but we're currently doing OK.
I agree, having to make all the changes we have its no surprise that were not quite up to scratch.

But there are signs that we can get there and football is way better than it was under Lambert, which I know isint that hard.

It's nice that occasionally we can pass it around a little bit and what not, but I am sick to the tits of losing matches. It's just nowhere near good enough, and hasn't been for several years.

They're now going to park the fucking bus for 45 minutes and render the second half entirely predictable.

Sherwood needs to start producing something to back up the all the talking he does, because this is just shit week after week.

I'm not so sure they will even need to park the bus. Desperately poor by Villa going forward.

Terribly unlucky deflection for the goal, but wtf is Amavi doing shitting out of a tackle?

something has to change for us up front. For me, it would have to be Gestede (who hasn't impressed me up to now) instead of Agbonlahor

This is one of the poorest displays I've had the misfortune to attend since... I'd like to say a long time, but it's not.

Utter fucking shite. We have no width. None. Their back four is tucking in narrow, condensing the space between the defence and midfield who are completely outnumbering us. Their midfield becomes a 5 and we are looking to play through a quagmire. Utter shite.

Westwood has been woeful. Always lets his man run off him. Sanchez is doing the work of two men and is up against three.

Fucking woeful.

Hopefully Sherwood will bring Sinclair on second half. Hoofing it up to Gabby is making it very easy for Albion to defend. The same goes with high balls into the box. Albion are very compact so we need to explore other options.

Very open game, either team could have gone in one up but Albion created more chances so probably deserve it if you had to give it to one. Shocking defending from Amavi and the defence again doesn't fill me with confidence.

They are bigger and stronger than us, and that is about it. Hoofing the ball up towards Gabby isn't that useful a tactic. So far only Gil has looked worth a place.

Maybe a proper central midfielder in Sinclair's position would help. Ayew would be lost in this game, the only alternative to Gabby is Gestede.

Puke.

This is what will happen in the second half. We'll continue in much the same way, passing it back and forth in front of a comfortable Albion midfield. We'll lump the ball up to Gabby, who will fall over and try to get us a penalty. He may even succeed. Either way, it'll either finish 1-1, if we're really, really lucky, or we will lose. And we'll thoroughly deserve the defeat.

I said before the game to my wife (Albion season ticket holder and gone today) that they'll go 1-0 up first half, probably through Berahino and they'll all love him again, then we'll batter them second half and draw 1-1. Can't see that though after that first half, they won't cross the halfway line now and we're too slow and pedestrian to break them down.

We'll play a bit better and have a 25 minute spell when we are much the better side.

We won't score, though, they'll get another.

Next week plenty of us will be saying how we at least played decently for a bit and how the football is much better than under Lambert.

I also suspect the master tactician Sherwood will do something absolutely fucking stupid. In fact, it will be him doing something brainless that will allow them back into the game.

Only real chance created and a very good one for Gil came directly from Gabby's good work. 3. Gabby has struggled in the air against two shaky looking centre halves hence put the big striker on. $. Injury aside what else will deny Gabby a place in the side?

Some sort of reality-bending celestial event, maybe?

Ancelotti could roll into Villa Park next week, sign Messi and Ronaldo and they'd be supplying Gabby through the middle.

Why take Sinclair off for Rudy?

Gabby is dead.
Good Lord the quality of analysis on here.  1. Sinclair so anonymous someone thought he wasn't on the pitch; 2. Only real chance created and a very good one for Gil came directly from Gabby's good work. 3. Gabby has struggled in the air against two shaky looking centre halves hence put the big striker on. $. Westwood has been excellent first half doing largely the necessary things noone ever gets praise for and is consistently excellent at doing just that.

Oh please.

Gabby will be gassed by the 75th. We need a goal, and I'll take Sinclair's form over Gabby's at the moment.

We were already showing that we had no width and a condensed back like is killing us. That is what Sinclair is for, taking him off was a bad idea. Simple as.

Name one thing gabby does better than Scott?

Breed.

The thing is, we've all known for absolutely ages that playing Gabby up front on his own at VP is as about as much use as standing in a field, lobbing cowpats up into the air and trying to head them as they come down.

It's such a universal truth, you'd think someone at the club could have pointed it out to Sherwood when he first arrived. Or showed him how the fucking DVD player works.

I'm rapidly coming round to the view that Tim is a fucking moron.

I'm rapidly going off Sherwood.

I reckon we'll be amongst the first to turn.

I want to him to prove everyone he can become a good manager and there is so much he has done well since arriving. But he's coming up massively short now.

I've seen some gutless, witless shit from Villa over the years, but this takes the cake. Total and utter garbage from start to finish. And it hasn't even ended yet.

Short memory..

He's an absolute chancer.

I honestly think he is. Kept us up last season mostly on the basis of motivating players, but expect him to organise a football team which can win a match and he's clueless.

How many people thought Bacuna for Gil was a good idea, for example?

The thing that is so dissappointing is that there was so much hope at the start of the season. It has taken a handful of games and w eappear to be in exactly the same position as we were the last few seasons.
