On a similar note, where's a good place to park? For the 2010 we did the official Wembley parking but being as it's £30, what's the next best option?

Just looking into this. Private driveways may be an option at circa £15

Official parking is fine if you're happy to sit motionless in the car park for 2-3 hours after the match.

I used a site called www.justpark.com and have paid £9 for the day (booked it from noon until 6pm) on someone's drive, supposedly 0.6 miles from the ground.

I got the link in an email from AVST here: http://villatrust.org.uk/?p=1214

I don't know wembley very well but I'd suggest central london beforehand.  The Taps at Euston to Fitzrovia to marylebone.
That's a good pub crawl on any day of the week, let alone when yo need to be somewhere else.

Fab pub, I remember going there before the 2010 League Cup Final. Some serious old school Villa fans in there, the sort who just wear an old Villa badge and give you a quiet nod when they recognise one of their kind, probably including you Brian.

I thought the same when I paid it in 2010 but I'm glad I did, 20mins after the game I was more or less out of London. I'm sure you can find equally good for less money but for a one off occasion it doesn't really bother me.

We were in there for the Chelsea semi final. Nice pub ruined by a few moronic should know better at their age Chelsea fans.

Ruislip this time as we're only going down for the day, then the train in to Wembley Park.

Is this from experience ?

I've never found Official Parking a problem at Wembley.

we've been given the Yellow Car park, which is an easy out towards Sudbury/Harrow and avoids the North Circular and Hangar Lane

By far the worst Official Parking that I've experience regarding getting stuck/held back is the North Stand at Villa Park.

I parked there for a season in the late 90's (NB - I wasn't paying) and for 3pm KOs it normally took until close to 6pm before we got out.

Same here. I've used the Tube, unofficial parking and official parking at Wembley over the years (football and NFL) and I found that Official Parking is the best option.

I'd have paid the £30 even if I hadn't been picking some people up in Oxford and it was just me in the car.

If we'd have been given the Green Car Park or especially the old Red Car Park, then I might have thought twice but, as I said above, the Yellow Car Park is ideal if you're heading back towards the M40 westbound

The Volunteer was where the aforementioned Chelsea knobs had the temerity to try to wind up Damon. He utterly wiped the floor with them along the lines "listen, I remember when Bumstead was your best player" and proceeded to list the whole Chelsea team in which Bumstead played. Cop that, cockerney wankers.

i would suggest 8 cans of white lightening or frosty jack 7.5% volume
chilled ones out the fridge in the shop
there are loads of small shops selling them by wembley stadium station or where the greyhound used to be
you know it makes sense
whats the point in waiting up the bar 6 deep with people pushing in and dopey barstaff
i know there is suposed to be a drinking ban on the street
but about 40 thousand people will be doing it
and i hope to find a good chip shop

Central line closed this weekend from Queensway to white city or similar. Better bet would be to park for free on a side st near Loftus Rd ( free on Sunday) and get Hammersmith and City line from Shepherds Bush Market to Baker St.

After the game drive north from Loftus rd 400m and you are directly on the A40/M40 home.

I did consider Westfield (I have 'Express Parking' there, I'll have you know :) ). I parked there last Friday, stayed at the Dorsett and used the Tube to get to Spurs.

However, as stated above, the Central Line is closed around that area this weekend**. Hence I'm driving.

(** TFL - CENTRAL LINE: Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April, no service between North Acton and Queensway. This is to allow for track and drainage replacement work at White City. )

Also, if you did park in the Shepherd's Bush area and then head out on the A40. That'll land you straight back into the Wembley traffic around Hanger Lane.

I have a Southend supporting mate who like any fine minded football fan utterly despises Chelsea. He had a new work colleague start around about the time we played them in Cup Final.

He said to this guy 'John - do you remember when Stamford Bridge was a right shit hole. I mean it even had a car park inside the ground?'

This John chap said 'No. That wasn't what Stamford Bridge is like or was ever like.' He then admitted his first game was about 5 years previously but continued to deny the cars parked by the side of the pitch.

My mate carried on ribbing him continuously about it and Chelsea John, a pejorative nickname I have for him which has since subsequently stuck, said after a few weeks
'Steve - you've never been to Stamford Bridge so how would you know what it looked like 10 years ago?'
My mate responded ' John, I've never been to Sydney but I know what the Opera House looks like.'

I'm regretting my choice of the club coach. Hopefully they'll land nicely before 12, so I shall be attempting to marry this thread up with a Tube map to try to come up with a do-able decent "local" for an hour or so.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I'm thinking of heading down Saturday and booking a hotel in Harrow or nearby , anybody know of any villa meeting up to watch the Saturday night game in a pub? We had a great night before the Final in 2010 - I have a couple of teenage sons with me, but would good to find a group of villa to start off the weekend in a good way.... any info gratefully received.

I am going down to Uxbridge on Sunday morning.  The Sutton Supporters Club always go in the Weatherspoons on Uxbridge High St.  Good atmosphere in there and Hatch has four coaches there this week.
They get there early so from about 10.30.
Easy tube into Wembley.  I am driving down and last time it was free parking as it was a Sunday so hope it is still the same.

Green man is the best pub near Wembley Park tube station.
Heard some good feedback on this place today from a Luton fan following the JPT final

The nice thing about The Green Man is that it overlooks Wembley, so it is good for the whole 'We're going to Wembley' day out.

they also set up loads of marquees around the car park so that if it rains, you can still get shelter even if the pub is packed, or to put it another way - they have thought of every possible way to max out the number of people they can get in.

Their final thought for all the people they cannot squeeze into the actual building, is that they sell cans of Carling for about £4 each from various points all over the car park.

This description will either appeal to you or not. For me
(1) Can see Wembley
(2) can get beer
Does it for me - I am easily pleased.

I remember the Bolton semi we were standing in the car park of a pub, chatting to a Bolton fan with his missus and two young kids, it went off between others on the far side and he turned to the pair of us and completely changed and gave it the 'come on then Villa', I said what about your family, and he said 'oh yeah, I forgot about them' and carried on chatting as though nothing had happened, we called him a ****** and turned our backs.

Why do you think it took us so long to sell our allocation? ;)

If i was paying 4 quid for a can of low quality lager, I'd expect to have a view of St Mark's Square or the the Amalfi coast line in front of me, not a football stadium.

Is there anywhere near the Green Man for food? I've been told the balti pies in Wembley are supposed to be pretty awesome (but expensive) but going to need something to soak up some of the day time drinking before making the way to Wembley.

On League Cup final day, people were openly taking drugs at the Green Man, smashing the outdoor picnic benches to pieces and as I walked down the hill from the pub (having not partaken in either of said activities), a whole batallion of police with long batons and vans were marching up the hill to sort it all out. Not for me I'm afraid, there's nothing nice about the Green Man at all

Did the Green Man for the Walsall JPT Final.  Ace atmosphere due to coach parking so they've a captive audience, but the beer is piss poor.  Marquees with temporary Fosters only pumps.

We took a walk back down Dagmar Avenue into the Blue Rooms.  Excellent beer, & an even better curry.  Recommended.

I'm probably very boring, but pubs rammed to the seams with football fans aren't for me, I like to sit down, have a decent pint and a chat.  Which makes me sound old, I know, but there you are.

The only thing the Green man will have is atmosphere but so will 100's of other pubs.

You won't get near the bar unless you're the first one there, after that you'll be reduced to buying a crate of Warm Carling for anything between £60-£90 because the outside tents are so packed then standing around it while pissed up 15 years olds come up to you begging to buy them off you.

£4 a carling is most certainly a total rip off, but so is £3.70 a pint in The Holte End. I know a can is not a pint, but it is London, on a Wembley semi final day.

People want different things out of the day, people want different things out of pubs. For me, I won't enjoy a drink in a nice pub whilst my stomach is churning wondering how smoothly the tube journey will go, or exactly how far away we really are.

I want to know that I am there, within walking distance, in good time for kick off.

Last time we were there, we did get a couple of pints at the bar, then picked up a few cans in the car park, enjoyed meeting other Villa fans, and then headed down the hill well before any idiocy kicked off, and we had a great time. It'll be the same for many others, whilst remaining other people's idea of hell. It is what it is.

I agree with amfy, everyone to there own, I can do either rammed or quiet I might be a devil and mix it up a bit tomorrow

as for the cost, Wembley is a one off, and should be treated as such,
before you go you know your gona get ripped off, lets face it we don't get there too often so if the price is an extra quid or so on a pint then so be it
I went to the 02 to see the great Barbara Streisand and payed £25 for a programme, why ? because it was a one off it wasn't going to happen again, its the price you have to pay

if your a bit worried about money just get yourselves on to Wonga/quickquid and borrow a bit go down have a ball, when you get back you will probably have about 10 years to pay it off before our next trip to Wembley, sorted

(this financial advice has been bought to you free of charge by john e associates)

There was something on here or H and V fb page about a social club that was opening with free parking if you use their facilities and decent beer at about £3.30 a pint. Also doing food.
