Old Trafford, Sat 4 April, 3pm
-
Unlike under the last days of Lambert, we'll at least go up there and create chances. It'll be interetsing to see whether he sticks with the two in midfield and two wingers like he's been doing. I can't call it either way but we're good enough to get a point at least.
-
Fuck it- I've thrown caution to the wind. scum 2-3 villa.
-
Oh God, we haven't got to play them again already?
-
0-0.
-
I'd be delighted with 0-0.
-
Standard 3-0 to them without breaking sweat.
-
2 2
-
1-1
-
I remember last time we went there we actually created quite a few chances, but that our finishing was rubbish while theirs was clinical, so hopefully Benteke brings his shooting boots this time around.
Going to be a lot of pressure on Sanchez to match Fellaini in the air.

My mate's a pundit on Ghanian TV and he's covering this game. He wants me to give him so (serious) Villa Old Trafford stats because he wants to be more Villa leaning. I've told him there's not much I can give him - any suggestions?

Errrrrrrrrr..........
-
In his words.... "I need to pretend that I have insight knowledge into AV"
-
TimsherwoodsAstonVilla have never lost at O/T;-)
-
See if you can get him to work in "Chris Nicholl scored from Stockport."
-
They're going to score. We could well score against their backline.
I'll go for an optimistic 2-2.
-
I like the Chris Nicholl suggestion.
-
Even if we play well and they play shit there's still something that will go for them whether it be reflections or shocking refereeing. 0-4 defeat.
-
If he could mention that we're all lucky to be alive at a time when Messi, Ronaldo and Michael Carrick are all playing the game that should keep silhillvilla happy.
-
TimsherwoodsAstonVilla have never lost at O/T;-)
Which is a nice stat until Saturday evening.
We've beaten them there more recently than we've beaten them at home.
-
I don't think you're taking this all too seriously, Chris.

Won once there in the last 31 years?
Not too optimistic about this one!
-
Loss
-
We'll do them 1-0, with Delph scoring the winner.
-
Never mind once in 31 years, we've only won three times since WW2!!!!
-

I'll go for an optimistic 2-2.
I think that is the attitude we have to adopt in the three upcoming away games. The TSM (I & II) philosophy was to go into these kind of games ultra defensively and if we conceded just continue that way and try and keep the score down. I hope Sherwood is concentrating on how we can cause them problems rather than being overly conservative in his approach.

Yep definitely. If we approach it like Lambert we'd essentially just be waiting for the inevitable. One goal goes in, the heads drop then the flood gates open anyway.
We've got to approach this game like we think we can win. We may get pasted, but if we sit back trying not to lose, we'll just get spanked anyway. We might as well go for it.
-
Them 3 Us 1
Moses
Blackmore
Olsen
Withe
-
I've always felt that we get beat in the tunnel up there. You've got to have a go at them. They're piss poor at the back and seem to be a rag tag jumble of attacking players thrown onto the pitch, with no other tactic than the big boot.
The walk to the ground always makes me very angry indeed.
-
Them 1 Us 1
-
2-1 to them, we will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Shriek with the winner in the 126th minute
-
2 nil to ManUre
We go again ....
-
2 nil to ManUre
We go again ....
Lambert Out !
-
Standard 3-0 home win.
-
a fluke win for Aston Villa with a ugly last minute goal by Carlos Sanchez
-
We'll probably lose. Sherwood will go after them and that'll let them play the counter-attacking football they like so much.
On the other hand...
We'll probably win. Sherwood will surprise them by going after them from minute one, smacking up the entitled little pampered prima donnas hard.
-
1-1 Hughes for them, Sid for us

Did you vote for a draw then?
-
Think we'll score but they'll score more. 3-1 to them :(
-
We need to be solid for this one ......
Given
Hutton Vlaar Okare Clark Lowton
Sinclair Delph Westwood
Gabby Beneteke
Still think we will lose but need to keep the goal difference down
And think Given could be more solid at moment - Guzan looks like he did when first came into team at moment
-
A few weeks ago, I was really confident about this. Now, after seeing their last two performances, a draw would be a great result.
-
Most pointless (literally) thread of the season - start the QPR one already
-
The usual. Sadly. Just for grins I would LOVE to put one over these twats, but we won't, because we don't.
-
They seem to have run into form. They embarrassed Liverpool in the first half and if they are in the same form against us I fear the outcome.
Not the game we wanted before facing QPR.
-
We'll flipping murder them
-

Exactly why I pointed out we'd been stiffed by putting the qpr game there
-
2-0 defeat.
-
a fluke win for Aston Villa with a ugly last minute goal by Carlos Sanchez
I would love this.
Truly, truly love this!
-
We'll be fucked by the fuckers.
-
Comftable 3-1 win for them. Sinclair getting a late goal back for us.

Putting the QPR game where? We have to play them sometime.
-
We would all love it if we beat them. We won't.
-
I'd like to think the manager's optimism at least gives us some bravery.
-
3-0.
A game you've seen 19 times in the last 20 years up there.
-
I'd like to think the manager's optimism at least gives us some bravery.
What's intriguing is we won't go there for a draw at best.
-
Attack
-
From day 1 virtually sherwood spotted we were not capable of grinding out 0-0's.
-
Sherwood will go with a 442 shit or bust policy. We will either lose heavily or win heroically.
My money is on the former
-
Who's Ref ?
Could be telling
-
3-0. Next.
-
Never mind once in 31 years, we've only won three times since WW2!!!!
that is seriously poor. Though law of averages would suggest we will pick up a win sometime. I really do dislike Man Utd more than any other club.
-

This is very poor considering in the time period stated we have been competing more or less at the same level.
-
The day we beat ManU at their London trainstop of a ground I will celebrate like a cup final, I don't care how small time it makes me look. I really, really dislike that club.
-
Who's Ref ?
Could be telling
Never heard of him.
-
Referee: Roger East Assistants: R West, I Hussin Fourth Official: M Atkinson
-
We're on to at least score there this time. The challenge will be holding them in midfield.
-
They're predicting a turkey shoot over at Red Cafe, so I'm hoping they'll have a long and miserable journey back to the Home Counties on Saturday evening.
-
As someone who attended this fixture for decades and missed our one win every century in 2009, good luck to all those going and I hope we smash 'em. I will celebrate with a cigar and brandy if we manager to pull it off but head tells me play the kids, doesn't matter how well we play something psychological about this fixture that frightens our players, creates ridiculous refereeing decisions and inspires average Man U players to the performance of their lives. Take our annual beating with good humour and keep our powder dry for QPR on Tuesday.
-
Hope the lessons of the Swansea game have been learned, we set up with two in midfield today and we will be hammered. Sherwood seems set of leaving Guzan as number one, would be surprised if Given came back in though there isnt much in it. Sinclair hasnt shown up in his away games for us so far, marginal call maybe to push Cleverley further forward and bring Bacuna into the middle. Not a game for Nzogbia, we need mobile front players to press them high up the park to have any hope. I think we will need Sanchez in this one to deal with the threat of Fellaini in the air.
Guzan
Hutton, Okore, Clark, Lowton
Sanchez
Cleverley, Delph
Sinclair, Benteke, Gabby

As ever, I just hope we don't go there and immediately mess our pants. I'm sick of the ease they win with. I've seen some very decent goes at VP which came up short, but Old Trafford seems like a given for them. I fear for us conceding first.
-
Roger East 6 reds and 74 yellows in 24 games this season.
-
I can not see anything but the usual comfortable home win, with Rooney getting a brace of goals for the fifth time against us. Utd 3 Villa 1
-
What we must avoid is any key injuries, an absolute confidence battering heavy loss, Clark getting booked, any silly red cards.
-
Roger East 6 reds and 74 yellows in 24 games this season.
According to the offical PL refs site (http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/referees/index.html) it's 13 games, 46 yellows and 2 reds - not the worst by any means
-
United have the best home record in the league. They've obly failed to win three times
If there's any significant doubt about vlaar, benteke or delph's ability to play again versus QPR so soon after this id rest them

From PL website, 23 games, 6 reds, 74 yellows
That's his overall PL record since 2013
-
Ah - difference between this season and overall PL career
-
1-2
Sinclair (2)
-
Cleverley can't play.
A bit harsh but valid😟
-

Aha I see you are proposing the Mick McCarthy approach.
-
I think we will lose to a goal by the man with the funky afro but stuff QPR on Tuesday.
-
Benteke 1st goal 11/1, Gabby 16/1.
Tempting.

Them 1 Us 4

Of course, Bacuna for TC8 then
-
I wonder if we may go three at the back on the basis that three of of our better players are centre backs and will be happy with a point?
-
Benteke 1st goal 11/1, Gabby 16/1.
Tempting.
Gabby's a cracking bet I reckon. He can score against the big sides. He's in a run of form too.
-
The weather has brightened heat has returned. This place is full of muffs(!) glory hunters so COME ON VILLA!
-
I've got to be honest I'm absolutely dreading it
-
Fuckin fuck the fuckin fuckers
-
Fuckin fuck the fuckin fuckers
Wholeheartedly agree, it's the very minimum for which we should, and, almost undoubtedly will, assuming Mr. Sherwood puts another body in the middle of the park, aim.
-
I've just caught the first of many trains to get to OT. I've seen 2 of our 3 post-war wins there but am not too confident that this will be the 4th. At least I don't think we'll be a walkover this time.
-

Enjoy the journey Frank.
I will be on my way in about half an hour.
We know it makes sense!
UTV!
-
To be honest I think it'll be a miracle if we get something, but we stand a better chance by attacking them.
-

good on you.
Coming from Sussex, you'll probably be travelling with loads of plastic mancs!
-
1-1.
-
I just hope we have a go and don't just roll over, swap shirts at HT etc
-
I think that this is the one where we will really have a go.More importantly , if we go one down, we won'the just accept it and change nothing as in recent years.United have their flaws this season and, currently we could just be that irritating side that spoils their afternoon.Draw.

Not in First Class. I paid the upgrade to avoid them!
-
Closest game of the season for me. I have to pick something up from the Trafford Centre after the game. The last time I had to do that after the football was 2009...

I did that once and it took me two hours to get off the Trafford Centre car park.
-
3-1 to them. Can see it being close for about 65-70 mins but see them having too much for us over the course of 90 minutes. But there is nothing for us to fear and we just have to give it a go, all the preasure is on them.
A point today, a win tuesday, and then an upset for Blackburn over Liverpool in the Cup would make it a great week :)
-
Football Focus just came up with stupid stat of the day.........
Tim Sherwood is the only PL manager with a 100% record against this lot. Played one won one. ::)
-
i'l be watching this match in the Plough, newport pagnell packed full of utd fans,
last time I did this (when Bent scored that goal) I had to be taken out for my own safety,
having said that I was badmouthing them all pretty bad, as I know most of them and they are decent enough chaps that turn into absolute wankers when Utd are on telly
should be an interesting afternoon
-
A draw would be fantastic. Come on lads
-
1-1.
I'd be delighted with that, but I fear we're in for a beating.
-
I think we'll make it very difficult for them and we'll get a point. Their back line is nothing special at all and especially their CB's. I like Benteke's chances against them with some good service which will be critical. My biggest concern is managing Fellaini who is an awkward bastard and he's very confident right now.
