KO 12:30
Might as well start this now seeing as it's likely to be a bit more cheery in B6 on Sunday
-
Time for Vlaar Sanchez Benteke to start, Weimann to play up top and Gabby to stay at home
2 1 Villa
-
2-1 Villa, I'm bringing my lucky Villa hankie that I took to the Leicester and Bournemouth games this season.
-
Managerless Aston Villa into the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup.
-
Villa win. Mainly because me, Legion and Freddy are sat together as we did the previous rounds, not that i'm superstitious!
Will be very interesting to see how we play on Sunday.
-
At least we won't have to listen to the mumbles any more
-

2 1 Villa
Don't think Okore or Clark should be dropped.
-
At least we won't have to listen to the mumbles any more
You must have great hearing if you can make out the noise of waves breaking on the South Wales coast all the way from Villa Park
-
9-0 victory
-
I'm watching us for the first time this season. I was dreading it at 7.30 tonight but I'm looking forward to it now. It's time for unity not unrest and everyone behind the team.
-
My train back from Hull has just stopped at Wembley Central. This is an omen
-
8-3 villa..well corners.!
-
Was utterly dreading Sunday after last night.
Now I'm right up for it!!! Hopefully the nightmares are over.
-
Can't call this at all. Who knows. Hopefully a morale boosting win.
-
villa are back, villa are back....ello..ello!!
3-1 Villa
-
I think we will lose this. Part of the problem with Lambert is the lack of experience in the coaching staff and the Marshall twins don't have a lot of it to fall back on. That said, it's probably their only game in charge, so they'll likely chuck the sink at it.
-
2-0 villa . Leicester won't take this seriously .
-
Time for Vlaar Sanchez Benteke to start, Weimann to play up top and Gabby to stay at home
2 1 Villa
Don't think Okore or Clark should be dropped.
Not sure I would. With it being a cup game might bring Sanchez back in but leave it at that. Its important to get Vlaar and Okore back in the league, but think I would leave it for this game.
As for the match, despite how low confiderence is right now I thought we would win before Lambert was sacked and that has not changed.
2-1 to Villa.
Weinmann and Clark for us.
-
Good game to start with.Free game to try out some fresh idea's.Dont no if we can call Bent back!!! but I would get him back.Still feel it's at least 2 months to late tho.Fingers crossed I'm wrong. At least we can get by behind the team again
-

But they don't have to do much is the thing. Like you say hopefully they won't be in change for long, and there is nothing to lose for them as far as sunday goes.
-
As I said in another thread I was boycotting this but will now turn up full of cheer and positivity
Doubt we will be able to welcome a new coach but it feels as if it is us and the players now...
-
My train back from Hull has just stopped at Wembley Central. This is an omen
That must've been one hell of a piss up frank!
Is it the result of TV superstardom?
-
I'm taking my nearly 4 year old to his first game - he loves wearing his Villa shirt and keeps asking to go to a game and I feel there will be a sense of positivity and optimism for this one. As previous posters say, a game to get behind the team without worrying about the league
-
6-0 win as we show the world what we can do.
-
There will be a lot of freedom with the players. Benteke to get back to what he's great at in 3-0 win
-
Hopefully we'll get a performance like the West Ham 3-0 a few years ago!
-
3-0 to us or 0-1 to them.
-
Am thinking about going to this now with a spring and relief in my step no doubt. :-X
-
Heres hoping to a Villa win, but I hope all who go get right behind the players and have Villa park rocking. Come on my babies
-
I honestly think we will stroll it. Easy win.
-
0-2
Lambert re-hired.
-
Somebody alluded to it earlier, but the biggest problem we've had recently is the poor quality of the coaching, which won't have changed. I expect us to remain terrible for at least this game.
That said, I would've had us down for a win even with TSM2 in charge, so 2-1 Villa.

I have a feeling Lambert was quite dictatorial, see how he treated players who crossed him such as Lowton. The shackles might actually come off a bit, that is my hope.
-
Think we might sneak this now. 1-0 villa
-
Whatever happens, please let this be the end of Guzan passing the ball backwards from goal kicks
-
Hoping we'll make it through this, but no idea what to expect. Leicester have pulled some performances out this season if if overall they have been poor. They were unlucky to lose against Arsenal I'm told.
-
No Lambert dragging us down
4 2
-
Smash them into a crisp-flavoured powder and stuff them in a sock.
-
3-1 Villa win.
-
Win this and get a kind draw in Round 6 makes us an attractive proposition for job candidates.
-
2-0 to the Villa, positive crowd will lift the players and suspect our relegation rivals will field a much weakened side. Need to start pressing much higher up the pitch against these. Somehow have to try getting more width into our play so would go back to wing backs. Midfield is a disaster zone at the moment but Sanchez needs to come back in for sure. So many of the rest flatter to deceive Westwood, Cole, Cleverley, Weimann, Gabby even Sinclair
------------Given
-----Okore, Vlaar, Clark
Hutton------------Richardson
----------Sanchez------
------Bacuna----Delph

Could be interesting when people ask him who was manager when he went to his first game in years to come; Scott and Andy Marshall.

Like that line-up, plenty of energy in midfield that's a bit more forward than the sideways of late. 3-0 us, smile on my face all afternoon, a real sense of excitement in anticipation of the draw, and staying up for MOTD for a change, as much as anything else just to see if the cameras picked out any candidates sat in the directors' box.
-
No idea.
I have absolutely no idea.
I hope we win, draw Preston at home in the QF, beat Palace in the semis and Bitters in the final.
-
Ruined my dream after the events of last night!
No idea about what will happen in the match, but I had a vision of Lambert challenging pearson to a duel on the touchline! Lamberts shoots and misses the target (obviously) putting a hole in the roof of the Trinity just above where Doug sits. Pearson then charges at Lambert grabs him around the neck and drags him round the outside of the pitch towards where the TV studio will be demanding that Lineker come out and face him like a man or Lambert gets it. Lineker can't see what is going on as his view is obscured by Emile Heskey's shiny suit. A pitch side steward then intervenes and confiscates Pearson's duelling pistol telling him they are certainly not allowed in the ground along with other dangerous items such as the plastic tops of pop bottles! Both managers then refuse to speak of the incident to the BBC!
-
The team needs support on Sunday so off to pick up my ticket shortly.

F*** it. Let's win the f***ing cup this year.

Great

Who will be in charge of the Team?
-
Who will be in charge of the Team?
The assistant manag.........oops, we didn't have one.
-
Think Ads is doing it just for Sunday
-
If we win on Sunday I'll be amazed. Don't get me wrong I desperately want us to, but has there ever been a less experienced managerial combo in a dug out than these two?
-

The Marshalls.

Probably not since 1982, Des. ;)

The Marshalls.
They'll just a few yards away from me.... In Plain Sight

If memory serves me Lord Ron said a monkey could manage that team.
-
My sources tell me this is one of the Marshalls
(http://images.static-bluray.com/reviews/6169_5.jpg)
-
I am more up for this game, than any game in recent memory, and i dont think im alone.
The Holte will be that 12th man
-
2 2 Hutton and Wieman
-
Let's hope the Marshall Brothers (r)amp it up for us and that performance wise they go up to eleven.
-
I don't think we can suddenly turn into a team that looks like scoring or play a lot better that quickly, so lose 0-2.
-
Villa win. Mainly because me, Legion and Freddy are sat together as we did the previous rounds, not that i'm superstitious!
Will be very interesting to see how we play on Sunday.
1-0
Benteke
-
I think we'll sneak a win.
-
I reckon we'll do 'em, 64% to 36%.
-
2-0 to us.
-
I am more up for this game, than any game in recent memory, and i dont think im alone.
The Holte will be that 12th man
Complained about my seat in the Trinity being £25 so am in the Holte for this one and will be singing my nuts off.
What time does the nice lady come round with tea, biscuits and bedpan?
:D
-
Let's hope the Marshall Brothers (r)amp it up for us and that performance wise they go up to eleven.
My genuine concern is that they will be so instilled with Lambertness that we will play exactly the same way as we did at Leicester, Arse and Hull...and several other games, obviously.
I hope to McGrath I'm massively wrong!
Come on you Villa boys!
-

Does us all good to mingle with the "salt of the earth" types on occasion. I must admit, I did struggle to attract the attention of the biscuit lady on my last visit. Found it hard to nap, too, if truth be told.
-
Was working over in Leicester this morning, and I was sat at a desk in the main office. A middle age lady sat in front of me asked her colleague "what time is kick off again Sunday?", I gave her a reply.
She turned around and looked at me slightly bemused.
"I'm a Villa fan" I said, and she smiled, tilted her head slightly, and gave me the kind of look your mom does when you tell her you're upset because your girlfriend has dumped you when your thirteen.
-
Really want us to win the cup this season.
This is a really intriguing situation now. All the lambert haters will have no excuse to stay away so I'd be expecting a crowd approaching 40k for this match now. And the atmosphere should be pretty lively!
The players have to be up for it, whether they were still behind lambert or not, they now know they have a bit of freedom to be a bit more adventurous.
It's been said further up the thread, but I also was thinking back to what happened in a big cup competition the last time we Had temporary management in place!
-
40K? No chance.
-
40K? No chance.
is the TR Upper open for this round?
-
No mate.
-
40K? No chance.
30k I reckon
-
If that.
-
25k tops.
-
Well we had 27,415 v Bournemouth .
Are Leicester bringing many ?
-
Surely Leicester are taking their full allocation - this is their Wemberley!!!!
(I lived in North Leicestershire in the 90s - ffs it was tough!)
I'd say mid 30s.
-
I'd be surprised if it was big.
-
I'd be surprised if it was big.
Am I married to you?
It's a bit dark in rural Worcestershire and them cheap candles is shit!
-
I'd be surprised if it was big.
Or clever
-
It will be over 30K. Leicester apparently have less than 500 tickets left so are bringing over 6K. Anyone really think less than 24K of us are going to turn up?
-

Yes if the online seat plan is anything to go by - there's far more available seats than there are sold ones.
-
we beat this lot at VP with Lambert in charge. We even scored more than once. Let the goals and good times flow
-
Got my ticket yesterday for Doug Ellis lower and we were (according to the guy who served me) expecting 30k before Lambert went. Interest had increased since Wednesday night so who knows.
-

That contradicts what someone in ticketing told me (and it wasn't just a sales person). On Wednesday evening I was told that Leicester were only using the NS Upper and the Witton Upper. They were not using the Witton lower at that point.
This was during another conversation with Villa about their bizarre price structure for this game. This has now escalated to the point that I'm playing phone-tag with Nicola Keye.
Hopefully, rather than leaving messages for each other, we'll actually get to speak today.
-
I remeber the second leg of the league cup semi against then-Premier League Leicester in the late 90s (edit:year 2000) only attracting 29K, depite regular sell outs in the league...
Lambert leaving of itself won't bring the crowds back in their droves- for the majority of stay-aways I doubt it was an anti-Lambert stance per se, more fed up of the constant lack of entertainment. Might take some a little convincing to resume parting with the cash and time.
-
As for the match- bring back Vlaar- we could use as many 'captains' on the pitch as possible...
Genuinely looking forward to it now, can see a Vill win, 1-0
-

This is my concern as well, as the coaches have been working with Lambert and unless they disagreed with him, will there be much change?

In terms of style I suppose there may not be- especially so soon- but perhaps the week's events will spark some life into the players? That's all I'm really hoping for.
-
The players brief to the players should be to just go out to win the game by playing football the best you can. Leicester should have the same mind set and it all should bode well for an exciting game.
From dreading the thought of going after the Hull result I'm now quite looking forward to it.
-
Has anybody considered that The Marshalls might be loathe to risk injuries and suspensions to a squad which is locked in a relegation struggle, and field a weakened team? After all, they are not likely to get any praise for a resounding victory, it would be put down to post PL relief syndrome, but a couple of long term injuries and suspensions would not endear them to the incoming manager, and they would be in the frame for a portion of the blame if we go down.
-
Just bought my tickets. The guy who served me said they're expecting around 31,000.
-
Should the Marshalls be the ones taking over? They always look pretty glum on the bench...where is Sid?
-
It's tough on The Marshalls. They probably don't even get an "acting up" pay rise or bonus and will have to do media interviews.
It is High Noon all over again and don't be surprised to see them throw down their badges at the end of the game.
-
If the Marshalls stay in charge we should definitely appoint a Deputy!
-
Mirror: Aston Villa press conference LIVE: Caretaker boss Scott Marshall faces the media following Paul Lambert exit (http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/aston-villa-press-conference-live-5157316)
Scott Marshall is in the building Scott Marshall has arrived.
All the latest from the Villa caretaker on the way.

Is that Mac Mac in the ront row?
-
Couldn't they find a smaller desk?
-
James Nursey checks in
Scott Marshall had never done a press conference before and looked uncomfortable.
He took training this morning with Andy Marshall, Gordon Cowans and Stuart Taylor.
Scott Marshall has been in touch with Paul Lambert, who he worked with at Norwich, and still calls him his boss.
He insisted the players were behind Lambert right to the end and were disappointed over his exit.
-
Vlaar is fit and available.
Huth is cup tied for them, but Upson is back in the reckoning.
-
I expect to touchdown in Grenoble switch the phone on and read of a Gabby hatrick, safe passage to the QF's and Klinsmann being paraded around the pitch pre-game .

Hells bells, just heard Marshall's press conference, he's even more dour than Lambert! Bodymoor must be a barrel of laughs.

Didn't he say something along the lines of he's "still very loyal to Lambert" which sounded very strange to me, like he wants out too?
-
Said they've done nothing different.
Sack him, immediately. pathetic.

If it ain't broke...

First game of the season for me and VCTM jnr - we are looking forward to a great atmoshere and a glut of goals - are we crazy?
Where are the roadworks on the M6 around Villa Park?
-
I get on the M6 from the M5 VCTM and they finished the roadworks a while back - junction 7-6 has been pretty free-flowing (famous last words!). I usually check live traffic flow on Frixo (http://www.frixo.com/)
-
VCTM - from what I understand, you can get off the M6 at Spaghetti but you can't get ON there.
But, I've been driving up the Lichfield Road towards the city centre then taking a right at Waterlinks Boulevard Island to Park Circus which takes you on the Expressway and get on the M6 there. Will probably take you a fee minutes longer than usual.
Bring some luck with you mate!
UTV
-
Think it depends where you park - I park at King Edwards school and have been getting back to the M6 at Spaghetti no problem via Park Circus & the Expressway but think the access via Lichfield Rd may be closed

Don't understand that - I've been driving past J7 down to J6, and going on the Expressway to Park Circus all season with no problems
-
We'll smash 'em 1-0
-
I just can't shake the feeling that because of everything that has been going on I can't give a shit about this game. We have bigger fish to fry and I want just to get on and sort out the league form. This to me is a bloody distraction. And it's the 5th Round of the FA Cup. And we're at home .
-

I think it could actually be quite cathartic.
We've moaned about Lambert for ages, and now he's gone. It isn't a league game, so we won't be getting further into the shit.
If we win it, we're still in the cup in the later stages. If we lose it, it doesn't really matter because we've got much bigger fish to fry, other things to worry about. Win win. Even if we lose it, we're not going to get our arses handed to us, because we're playing another really shit team, not Arsenal or someone who could embarrass us.
The fact it isn't a league game might also help the players relax a little, if we do well, we might build some confidence.
I think it could be a good thing for us, and god knows, we could do with a good thing.
-
Obviously, having said all that, Alan Curbishley will be presented to us on the pitch before the match, we'll lose 9-0, Delph, Benteke, Okore, Clark and Gil will all pick up broken legs, and we'll field an ineligible player and therefore pick up a points deduction which will render us relegated within a couple of weeks.
-
I don't know. I think a defeat is very much on and I do worry how that will affect a new manager and how long he will realistically need to turn things around for a side so clearly devoid of any confidence. Of course we could win it and that too is clearly a possibility considering who we are playing. But I think the negatives outweigh the positives and I'd rather we didn't have this game to play but I would rather we get a new manager in working with the players for as long as is possible. But then again I'm a born worrier when it comes to Villa.
-
Apparently Scott Marshall will talk to Lambert before the game. What on earth would be the point of that unless he is looking to maintain our outstanding goal scoring record this season.
-

I welcome the distraction. Getting back to a game of football instead of all the manager crap, you never know we might even get to score a goal.
-
As much as I want us to progress I see this as a 'free game' in that we have a weekend where we cannot drop any points while looking for a new manager. I would have stuck BFR and Stan Boardman in charge for this game to boost morale. Nige could have come and played his fiddle in the dressing room before the game too.
-
Nigel Pearson currently reminds me of Monty Python's Mr Creosote from The Meaning Of Life. He is one wafer thin mint away from exploding completely.
-
No idea what we'll get tomorrow. I have a feeling it will go to a replay. Just interested to see what the Marshall brothers do with regards team selection and formation and there's anything different, Vlaar and Benteke have to be back in the team now surely?
-
Should the Marshalls be the ones taking over? They always look pretty glum on the bench...where is Sid?
Given one is the defensive coach and the other the keeper coach, both are out on the training field most days interacting with the players
As much as a legend Sid is, he's back coaching the youths full time so out of the loop with the first team squad. It's the right decision.
-

This.
We can forget about the relegation battle for 90 minutes and get behind the team that isn't Lambert's.
Which, if I've read things correctly, is what the vast majority wanted.
I'd love us to win this for many different reasons.
UTV!
-
Above all you'd like to think the players will want to have a bit of pride about things and at least get us through to the quarters which hasn't happened much in the last 15 years.
This is also against opposition where with a good performance we can win and score a goal or two like we did in December confidence can flood back which is crucial.
Of course the opposite could happen. With a lack of direction we'll come out flat, concede after 20 minutes and play clueless for the rest of the game with the players hiding behind the lack of a manager.
We'll see.
-
I can see us trouncing Leicester 5-0, suddenly the thought will linger in Villa fans heads..."what if we kept the M&M team in charge?".
Sherwood signs.
We lose every game after.
-
Has anyone else noticed that when this one was announced as a TV game the general thought was "WHY?" but now we're the week's big story?
-
Has anyone else noticed that when this one was announced as a TV game the general thought was "WHY?" but now we're the week's big story?
Good point. And this is a funny sort of game which either could be seen as a bit of turning point in the future or just another dire footnote in a depressing season. At least now it is a game where there is not much to lose. Before Lambert got the sack I was thinking that going out of the cup could really do him in. I get the mixed feelings about this game. But I do see it as a nice destraction and having a little run in the cup when you have nothing else to cheer about should be seen as a positive. Now winning the cup (doubt it will happen, but still) and going down would undo this argument, but winning the cup and staying up by the skin of our teeth I would take that.
-
Apparently Scott Marshall will talk to Lambert before the game. What on earth would be the point of that unless he is looking to maintain our outstanding goal scoring record this season.
Scott's obviously full of self confidence then.
I imagine he's thinking he's out of a job when a new manager arrives with his own coaches, so he's not got a lot to lose one way or the other on Sunday's result and he's said he doesn't want the managers job.
-
If Sherwood is involved, I reckon he'll get off to a flyer. 4-1.
-
Must win tomorrow, West Ham already out and Stoke potentially going the same way with them losing and being down to 10 men.
Geoff Cameron also suspended for our game now.
-
The first 3 teams into the QF are Blackburn, Bitters, Reading.
-
2 more Prem teams out and we're 90 minutes from QFs. Please do it Villa
-
Is Sherwood taking charge in time for this or are the Marshall Brothers running the show?
-
Is Sherwood taking charge in time for this or are the Marshall Brothers running the show?
Marshalls in charge. Sherwood in the directors' box. Pops in to the changing room to pep up the players. Same as any other time such a thing happens.
-
Is Sherwood taking charge in time for this or are the Marshall Brothers running the show?
Think he is taking charge officially anyway. Seems a bit late to me, but am guessing 99% of the work done up to the game will be the same and Sherwood might just do the team talk.
-
Do not fuck this one up Villa.
-
The first 3 teams into the QF are Blackburn, Bitters, Reading.
Certainly should be an incentive.
-
A quarter away at the Bitters would be some game and some atmosphere
-
They would beat us.
Would rather play them at VP or not at all.
-
They would beat us.
Would rather play them at VP or not at all.
With Pulis in charge you may well be right.
-
With Tim at the helm I am expecting nothing less than a win and lots of goals.
-
If Vlaar plays whowill make way for him? Will Jack Grealish play? Will Nigel Pearson try to throttle The Marshalls?
These are the burning questions of the day.
-
Okore has been dropping a couple of ricks of late. At fault for Hull's first and Chelsea's second. I would expect Sanchez and Benteke to return.
-
I'm going to this one and had been a bit nervous about it but hopefully we'll get a bit of a new manager bounce. Feel more confident now. 2 1 us. Benteke and Gil for us, who cares for them.
The way the quarters are shaping up should be a real incentive too.
Come on Villa!!!
-
A home win then I nice QF tie home to Blackburn please .
Wembley wembleeeeeeeey !
-
I have visions of this Marshall bloke ringing Lambert throughout the game, what a bloody farce.

Isn't Sherwood in charge tomorrow ?

How low have we sunk.

Sherwood, should be there watching. I wonder if he will give the away fans a wave?
-
Wonder if the A3 directional arrows will make an appearance tomorrow
-
12:30pm kick offs often have a weird atmosphere, but I hope we're up for this tomorrow.
Leicester look better of late, and I don't think I can see the Marshall's making the right changes if we are struggling.
Hopefully Leicester do a Bournemouth and field a weakend side. I don't care how we get through, so long as we do.
-
I just want to see a reaction, some hope that things can be better between now and May. Hopefully, the new appointment will kick start a few performances from our players because many of them are operating well below their capabilities.
-
Early kick off the morning after valentines. There will be some sore heads around B6 tomorrow

This is a massice game Dave and it really worries me what this bloke will be saying, totally wrong what he is saying. Maybe he could get Lambert on speakerphone :-( . Hopefully Sherwood has been watching things and will have some input but I have never seen an interim bloke talk so negatively

Hur hur. More than one kind of sore head amirite?
;D
-
I'm looking forward to it and can't wait, despite the stupid KO time. We're gonna smash them so hard they'll be knocked out of next season's cup as well.
-
I've gone for the draw but hope for a resounding, confidence building win to give us something to build on.

If you see any ladies walking like John Wayne you'll know.
-
Well I hope if things are going a bit Pete Tongue in the first half, Mr. Sherwood gets in the dressing room and then on the side line for the second half, the type of character he is, this would not surprise me at all.
-
I am suprised that they gave this game to Marshall becausr he will follow Lambert out the door and he really has little to gain. I hope that Sherwood is going to call the shots from the stand, he's now the manager.
-
Wonder if there'll be anything about Lambert in the programme, a few words from him would be nice and perhaps a photo montage of his better moments. He did do some good work shifting dead wood such as dunne & Collins etc and that tosser warnock and re-signing Guzan and getting Benteke and to a degree vlaar .
-

They weren't as effective as I'd hoped. We need to up our game and I think I've had a brainwave. A2 directional arrows! If they fail I'm not sure where to go from there?

It would be a bit risky asking a bloke who has never taken a training session to manage the team today.
-
We'll, I would expect that Timmy will be watching from the stands, so let's hope the team think they need to impress the new boss.
I think think they WILL be up for it and we'll march into the QF's.
2-0

I imagine that publishing deadlines would prevent that even if they were inclined to do it.
-
you could comfortably put the highlights onto the back of a postage stamp. time to move on and try and obliterate memories of one of the worst Villa managers ever.

A few words and some sort of apology for the 0-8, Bradford etc would of been nice .
-
What a stupid time to be up to get ready for the football.
-
Sub 30k crowd ?

How low have we sunk.
As I see it we are likely to have a bloke in charge who is fairly sure he will given his P45 in a few days time. A bloke who in his one interview said we need a manager with proven experience. A bloke who has been ringing another bloke who has just been sacked by the club for advice on the team. A bloke who should know the capabilities of the players you would think.
You couldn't make it up could you?
-

You'd have had to be up earlier if you were on the bus rather than being chauffeured

It happens regularly but, as ever, it's only when it's us that it's proof of incompetence and gross stupidity.

I hope we can begin our recovery today.
-
Let's fucking do them.
-
Thats more like it!!
-
Losing 1-0 at half-time, Timmy stirs 'em up and we win 3-1 and go on to Wembley.
-
2-1 Villa win

I hope we can begin our recovery today.
Today is not recovery its maintain success. Recovery in the League starts next week.

So 4-4-2 with no Gil. How exciting.
I knew this coaching team had one last kick at us left in them.
