Title: Leicester City vs Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Toronto Villa on January 10, 2015, 02:02:27 PM
Villa: Guzan, Hutton, Okore, Clark, Cissokho, Cleverley, Cole, Westwood, Sanchez, Benteke, Agbonlahor (c).

Subs: Given, Bacuna, Weimann, N'Zogbia, Lowton, Richardson, Baker.

Nice to see Baker back on the bench. That side is much as expected and interesting to see how Cole does. No Grealish on the bench is surprising.

What formation do we think that is?  If I was in charge it'd be a 442 diamond with Cole in the hole, and Sanchez sitting.

Leicester: Hamer, Simpson, Wasilewski, Morgan (c), Konchesky, James, Hammond, Albrighton, Nugent, Knockaert, Ulloa.

Subs: Schwarzer, De Laet, Vardy, King, Lawrence, Moore, Wood.

Formation could be interesting am hoping it's not Cole and Cleverley stuck too wide

Would like to see a 4 2 3 1

Interesting. At least he's being philosophical about it. Vlaar tweeted 'I am a patient'

Was there a clause in Cleverley's loan deal that he must play when available? It seems like Lambert rather change tactics to accommodate him than to drop him. I guess we'll have to see once Delph's available again.

Happy with that side, would also like to know where Jacky is though.

I'm reading it as a 4-4-2 with a tight diamond - Cole at the tip and Sanchez anchoring, and the fullbacks playing as wingers.

I would sooner see Bacuna in the side than Cleverley.

Most of our subs would make their starting lineup. They look a championship side on paper. Our looks a solid 4231. Cole is crucial today.

Sincerely hope Gabby is strictly on the left and not getting in Benteke's way. Cleverley surely running out of chances at this stage. Would like to see Bacuna in early if Gabby and Cleverley continue to struggle.

Although I'm no fan of CNZ, I'd have been tempted to start him today with the instructions to run at Konchesky at every opportunity. Of course, the plan also works using Jack but Lambert would never try anything that radical.
Title: Re: Leicester City vs Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: supertom on January 10, 2015, 02:21:25 PM
Big onus on Cole today, as that's a very workmanlike side. I would imagine it'll be something like a diamond formation in midfield with the fullbacks, as per normal, providing all the width.

It's not going to be pretty. We should control midfield though with Sanchez and Westwood.

It might help if Mr Thicko didn't play him out of position. The least he could do is ask Gabby to face the right way. Play to his strengths by getting him to run at players and he's a completely different player. Asking him to play as a link player/number 10 is like asking him to play the violin. It ain't gonna happen.

4-3-1-2?

I hope we don't see Benteke up front and isolated again. I'm tired as I'm sure he is of seeing two or three defenders marking him out of games.

The new style will take months of training and practice before professional footballers are capable of passing forwards. So Lambert keeps telling me.

We have absolutely zero movement off the ball.

We'll get it, pass it around a bit, and then eventually there is no obvious pass, on account of nobody moving into or creating space, so it just fizzles out.

We don't look quite so easy in possession when teams don't want us to have the ball, which is of course something Lambert has failed to acknowledge.  It's easy to stroke the ball around when a team sits off you, but under pressure it's not so much.  Hence Leicester having two guilt edged chances already.

That half chance which fell to Cole summed him up perfectly. You'd expect most players to put their foot through the ball and leather it, but he didn't because it's quite clear he doesn't want to put too much pressure on his ever failing pins. He's absolutely done at this level. It's a shame. He's exactly the sort of player we need, it's just 5 years too late.

I'd bring on Zogbia and Bacuna and get some width into the side. Gabby and TC have been atrocious. The more I watch Gabby play the more I forget those first four years of promise. He's just become a waster and an absolute fucking charlatan coasting by on what he did between 2006-2010.
His legacy is ebbing away with every half assed, ineffectual and shite performance. No longer does he have a manager like Martin O Neill, who for all his faults was good at making average players look better than they were, or exploiting key attributes in certain players. For the most part he made Gabby a menace. He's about as threatening as a gnats erection now though.

Any chance to sack him if we lose?

In order to sack him, Randy Lerner would have to:

a) Give a shit
b) Know what he's doing.

Not much chance of it hapening then.

I'd bring on Zogbia and Bacuna and get some width into the side. Gabby and TC have been atrocious. The more I watch Gabby play the more I forget those first four years of promise. He's just become a waster and an absolute fucking charlatan coasting by on what he did between 2006-2010.

He's had unwavering support for 3 years even after breaking record after record as the worst ever Villa manager.  Hasn't done much good now has it.  The fans are not the ones making any difference on the pitch anyway.  The excuse that the players can't play well if the fans are singing bad things about the manager is a total lie.

Any minute now Lambert will look to his right to ask Roy for advice. He'll be confused, wonder where Roy is and wait expectantly before suddenly remembering Keano fucked off a couple of months ago. At which point he'll decide to bring on Andi Weimann to save the game...from the right hand side of midfield.

Does anyone have any pride left at the club? You just know this is part of another mega shit run we're in that will be something like 1 win in 10 two or three goals and a handful of points.

What does it matter who this useless fuck signs he will mould them in to the most boring player you can imagine within a few games. Much like himself Aston Villa and Lambert are as grey as grey can be.

Mate it's the same as last season. Constantly being told we are comfortable and midtable when we were only a few points from relegation. The underlying problem is the way we play football, so it doesn't matter who we play we aren't likely to get much from it, there are no easy games for us. The only games we've won recently have been from moments of magic from 1 player, Benteke. As a team we are shit, we are trained poorly, badly motivated, play slowly and aren't proactive at all. Plus the team are brain dead. Gabby and Cissokho could be twins, they are both complete and utter planks.
