Now we are through the run of 5 tough games, on paper we have an easier end to October and month of November. 5 points should be the minimum, 8+ is good. What do people think we will achieve.

It's going to be a tough run I think. Short of a real turnaround in the side and formation. We need to freshen things I think. But I think he'll stay largely as is.

5 points. I don't think we'll score more than 5 goals in that period either (he says trying to trick fate into unleashing a 6-0 spanking on QPR).

QPR - Probably the best option for 3pts so no doubt we will not win
Spurs - Depends on QPR result If we win then we will give them a game and they are certainly beatable
Wet Spam - One of the inform teams at present
Soton - Ditto Wet Spam
Burnley - Sorry but anything less than a win at home and PL should walk

I'd take that. When did we last beat spurs ? 10 years ago ?
-
At home it may have been '08, where Mellberg and Laursen scored and we beat them 2-1.
They've beat us the past three or four times at home, but have generally been awful at Villa Park over the years.

Jan 2008 on our patch, and then Sept 2008 on theirs.

Was that when they got Jamie O'Hara to mark Laursen from a corner? I enjoyed that.

Yes it was. It didn't work out too well for little Jamie.

Nope. A few times in interviews he struck me as one of those players who thought he was better than he was. A touch of arrogance which wasn't warranted.

What makes you unsure about Southampton? If Ads doesn't think we'll wipe the floor with them things really must be grim at the Villa.

Too right Ads. Most of my life Spurs have struggled at Villa Park but have been winning and scoring a lot of goals since 2008. Ditto, to a lesser degree Everton, who couldn't buy a win for most of the last 30 years but are now starting to show signs that they like Villa Park too.
I really hate the annual capitulation to Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool, but the fact that Spurs have changed the habit of a lifetime sticks in my craw.
I have never seen us win at QPR so would love to see us win on Monday. Redknapp often seems to do well against us so may have to hope for a draw.

I am drinking vodka by the way, but why should we not get these points. Oh yes, we dont attack!! I havent read the comments by Lambert that he had to be more conservative for the last few games, that is tosh as we have had 12 shots on target all season, pathetic. I am not a doom merchant but we have to improve

A few people going for wins against West Ham and Southampton. Takes optimism to new levels.
Hope they're right.
-
If we can't pick up some wins from this run of games then we are in trouble.
QPR W - Can see it being a tough night, but we should be able to edge this even if it is a bit of scrappy win.
Spurs L - They just have too much quality, and normally score quite a few goals against us.
West Ham L - Last year this was a fixture that we could expect at least a draw from, but they are just on fire right now, and I think at home they will be too strong for us.
Southampton W - Don't know why I think we win this, just because we do quite well at VP against the Saints, and because they are due a deep in form.
Burnley W - They are not even that strong at home, away they are even worse, this must be a win.

Realistic I think although we may have to settle for a draw at Burnley.
-
Only loss in my mind is West Ham away (which i'm going to).
Our record against Big sam teams has never been great, we struggle to score against them for a start and they've got so much more quality in midfield and attack than last season,. They can also bring on Nolan who has a million career goals against us.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if we get even a point down there. All the other fixtures I think we can get draws or wins from tbh...providing we play well and can get that defensive solidity back.
-
We need to figure out how to score goals and fast. Last 11 games gives an average of 0.36 goals a game. Pan that across a season is sub 14 goals which will be a major problem.

I think they're a decent enough side, but 8th at best. I could see any result this far out, so I am reserving opinion until closer to the time.

7 points havent a clue how?
-
West Ham is a certain defeat.
We might scrape a draw in the Spurs and Southampton games, infact drawing Sunday's game is a total necessity just to shake us out of this dismal run but then you look at Lambert's record v Spurs and it is hopeless.

I wouldn't expect us to beat anyone in the league or most of the championship , fuck given Lamberts History most of League one would beat us too..

We're doomed I tells ya
-
4 goals in 12 games now. Over a season that's 12.6 goals.
-
I'd settle for winning point six-nil on Sunday.
-
If we lost to QPR then we have to face facts that we could lose all of these games, but we really can't afford to.
-
Lose, Lose, Lose, Draw. Next 4.
-
Honestly can't imagine us scoring, let alone winning. Here's hoping for an own goal or four.
-
if we continue from monday night surely 1 or 2 have got to go in. NO?
-
The next few are massive games for us. I can see us beating Burnley and the Foxes, although knowing us we might draw both which would not be good enough. A draw against the Saints would be a reasonable results. Palace should also be winnable given their recent decline and pressure on Warnock, but going there is never easy. I think Lambert's future at least for this season should be decided over those four games.

The next ten games, perhaps other than ManU are winnable. I think Lambert won't be sacked, come what may, but at the very very most, I would give him that run of games to see how we fare. The trouble is, we might be bang in trouble afterwards and still won't sack him.

I went for a draw against spurs, what was i playing at? Fucking knew i was too happy that day.

Think we'll get 6 points from our next 4 or however many games we're doing, low scoring draws v Saints, Burnley and Palace (yes a result at Selhurst for once) and a decent win v Leicester with Benteke back from his ban with something to prove so an unbeaten run from nowhere.

19 points by the half way mark. Something similar points wise in the second half of the season. 35-38points. Awful but probably just about enough.
This is my optimistic guess.
-
The way we're playing at the moment I can't see how we're going to win a game.
-
The way we're playing at the moment I can't see how we're going to win a game.
I'm living purely in the hope that Burnley are atrocious and Leicesters bright start has hit a brick wall as their atrociousness comes to the fore.
But as we know from experience, the more nailed on a win might seem in Villas favour, the less chance the result usually ends in our favour. More often than not we seem to cock it up.
-
In this Season of Seasons as far as records are concerned, how many more points do we need to make sure we don't beat Derby's record? Another 6?
-
mercifully, I think that's one record even Mr lambert can't break
-
Right now, I'm not so sure
-
We will now draw every match until we play Manure who will collect their early Christmas present
I had said between 3 and 5 points for these 5 matches and we have 1 so far
-
Right now, I'm not so sure
If we were to lose Benteke, Vlaar and Delph in the summer in one go, I honestly wouldn't put it past him next season (he'll probably be here).

I know Man Utd should have too much for us, but it may well depend on their form going into that game. With us its harder to predict right now, but certainly it is the first season in awhile where I actually think it is a winnable game despite our form. I think if our bad form went on I would give Lambert up to that match then make a change.
By the way I thought Benteke's first match back would be Palace as that is four matches from now?
-
I've not seen Southampton yet. On paper they look like flat track bullies, unfortunately though we're one of the sides they're capable of bullying. They were asking their players if they could win the league on SSN!
-

It's not even as if there's a massive gulf in quality on paper between our respective squads. In fact it's actually quite close. But they're showing the difference between being well organised and positive in trying to win games. And also the positive benefits of having a club ingrained with a good footballing philosophy. I wouldn't say the likes of Davis and Long for example are fantastic players. In fact it's a squad that's most mid-table quality, it's just they've got an excellent mentality and decent manager.
Will they finish second? Nope. But they could end up top 6, which would be fantastic for them.

Trouble is GB we've said that many times in the past - we seem to do better (the 2-2) when we look dead and buried before we start!

I would rather play four games against four of the poorest teams in the league than go through Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City et al again.

Villa's (recent) past record against poor sides (and out-of-form sides) fails to inspire.....
-
I honestly don't see a win in us. We are fucking shit.
-
Where's a trip to Anfield or game against Norwich when you need one?
How we do in the next few games largely depends on our defence. I can't see us scoring many, even against the likes of Burnley, Leicester and Palace. Even last night we had an air of fortune about the goal.
I can see three dull as dish water matches. 0-0 with perhaps an odd goal winning for either side in all three matches. High scoring and entertaining they will not be.

We need 7 points from the next 4 games.
-
Leicester game is a must win in my mind, we won't beat Man. United obviously so it could be easily just 1 win at VP from this first half of the season.
We are always rubbish at Selhurst Park so I'd gladly take a point down there.
The Burnley game will be a lot more difficult now with them picking up, I'd like to think though that's the sort of game we could scrape a 1 nil win from.
Edit: Fewer than 5 points from those games and I fully expect us to be in the bottom 3 over xmas.
-
In a weird sort of way I'd fear Burnley more if they hadn't won all season.
-
10 points
-
I reckon we will get
1 point v burnley, palace and west brom (3 in total)
3 pts v Leicester
Any less than that is a poor return.
-
We need to be on 20 points minimum come Dec 21
-
From the next four I will go:
Burnley - Win
Palace - Draw
Foxes - Win
Baggies - Draw
That would be acceptable, and should it work out that way that would mean we would have been unbeaten for six games which is almost unthinkable!
-
I will go 1 point at each game
-
I think the Baggies game may be the death of Lambert. If we lose that and haven't picked up much in between we are done for. It's hard to think that in the space of ten years or so we have sunk to having attendances on a par with them lot down the road. They are no great shakes but at the moment I really fear for us in that game. Hard to imagine how theyve overtaken us in so many ways, with the lad who was in the England squad having been pinched from under our noses from a school in Aston. Where has it all gone so wrong?
-

If fox / Lerner had the balls to sack TSM II I think we'd instantly add 8-10k to the home gate just based on the excitement of knowing it's not his tactics .
-
Agreed. Hope he will, but hard to see with this 4 year contract, the squad we have and no money to spend how it's going to happen. But I suppose he will do his best to protect the asset.
