Amazing result - and performance that.

Delph, Westy & KEA all did very well in midfield. Lambo's subs were actually good too - Alby at the time they lost a man, and Clark on to add extra height late on.

Ramires tackle was horrible. Very nasty.

Up to 10th, 34 points.. happy with that.

Arsenal away comes close as does Liverpool away, but given how poor our home form has been it would be hard to argue that point Lee

Superb, Fantastic, Marvellous....Lambert didn't get anything wrong the way he set the team up today.

Can't fault any of them, worked so hard and got the goal we possibly deserved as I can't remember Brad having to do anything.

EXCELLENT 3 points....cheers Villa, you have made my evening.

Absolutely right there eastie.

KEA has taken a lot of shit this season (warranted or not), but he gets on with his job, hassling and harassing in the middle, forcing opposition teams into errors and capitalising on them. He was again superb for us and hope he isn't too badly injured from that horror tackle.

In amongst all the good performances tonight, can I just say well done to Joe Bennett. Looked composed for the most part, and a couple of really important clearances sweeping up at the back post. Whisper it quietly, but he looked like a fullback.

Othe than that top stand out performances from Delph, KEA and Vlarr.
Well done to Baker for making me eat my words over the last 3 games.

Can't think of weak performance tonight.
Good to see Albrighton looking confident, with some good deliveries.

Ramirez, a nasty, totally classless twunt. Not the first time he's made that sort of challenge.  Suits them down to the ground.

Can't wait to hear what the arrogant one has to say in the post match interview.
Lambert should just play a recording from August :-D

Definitely consistent. When Baker got the first after Foy seemed to delay and then decide because the player was rolling around, I thought "here we go", but then every slide in was punished the same way. It meant some hairy moments but in the end, the dirtiest team fell foul of it.

Also, Moaniniho was about to sub Willian but decided to change it to Oscar. 2 mins later they were down to 10 men, Hahaha.

The Classless One speaks:

"I don't speak about the decisions. If I say nothing, I am free from this situation [being criticised for it]"

Then goes on to call for half of the Villa squad to be sent off, and insinuates that Chris Foy is biased against his squad.

So much so the Missus asked me just after the match if she can buy a dining set from House of Fraser she saw today - on offer half price. No problem Darling I replied without asking what the original price was. I have now found out I will be £80 lighter tomorrow. Ouch!! Schoolboy error.

Hahahahaha that was brilliant and nearly makes up for all the home dross this season.

And...if there's one team we deserve a run of decisions against it's certainly Chelsea. Just balances out the Stamford Bridge game imo, not that I actually thought Foy got a lot wrong. Willian is always likely to get sent off in that situation clipping Delph's hells and Ramires went over the ball. Not sure on the handball in the first half but we certainly deserved at least a point 11 v 11.

Great team performance tonight and we were composed in possession which was great to see. Just hope there isn't a return to turgid nonsense v Stoke.

They targeted Bacuna rather Bennett, which surprised me. In truth, they had some success in the channel inside him.

Great performance by the whole team. We fully deserved the win.

Celebrate well, all Villa, everywhere.

Oh a word for Mr Foy, he might have been a stickler but he was consistent.

And based on the yellow cards he had handed out the Willan second yellow was correct.
watched it with the sound off, because the one-eyed commentary nauseates me. Only watched last 5 mins of the first half and all of the 2nd, but I thought the match officials were stout tonight. Every time Chelsea got a decision they would try and encroach 5 yards.

Much more enjoyable : sound down and some nice Soul out the speakers!

Lambert took a leaf out of mourinho's book with that substitution.

It's exactly what Jose did at old Trafford when Ferguson had a player sent off against Real Madrid. While ferguson and the mancs were moaning and stamping their tiny feet, Mourinho put that Croat on whose name escapes me, he profited from the confusion and set up he winner.

Love this from the Guardian MBM (http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/mar/15/aston-villa-v-chelsea-live-premier-league-report):

7.23pm GMT

90 min +4: Now Mourinho’s been ordered to the stand! He’s suffering from heat of the forehead, having walked onto the pitch to discuss matters with the referee. (It’s also worth noting that he got a bit animated by the dugouts after Villa’s goal, but quickly flipped into Friendly Mode when Paul Lambert looked at him in a manner which could best be described as Glaswegian.)

That was the best atmosphere I can remember in a long time. All in all a perfect day for me in more  ways than one - great performance, fantastic result and incredible atmosphere; for some reason for the biggest crowd of the season I got off the car park quicker than when we have low attendances, so home in record time; got home to find my new rescue staffie hadn't chewed anything while I was out (a first); and my youngest son whose epilepsy has been out of control (up to 39 partial fits a day) had a fit-free day for the first time in over a month. I'm absolutely buzzing! Be doing some damage to that bottle of single malt tonight for sure!

Given the quality of the opposition that was by far our best home performance of the season. The team kept a good shape throughout, showed great discipline and thoroughly deserved to win. Every player performed very well but I'd single out our back four for special praise. Nathan Baker's and Joe Bennett's best displays of their Villa careers. Mourinho was whinging on the radio on my way home about the referee but when he calms down and reflects on the game as a whole he'll recall that Chelsea rarely troubled Brad.

One question, petty i know, but puzzling - why was the game restarted with a drop ball after Ramires' sending off? Did I miss something?

Cracking performance.  Chelsea got what they deserved out of the game.  John Terry running 50 yards to get Ron Vlaar booked!! Tosser.  Bacuna, Delph, Vlaar, Benteke were excellent.  If we can replace KEA and Wiemann in the summer with two better players, I think we can forget about relegation scraps next season.  Fair play to Paul Lambert.  I have not been his biggest fan but he is proving me wrong.

Just home, planning to read this and the match thread in its entirety.

There seemed to be quite a few people wearing those half and half scarves in the Lower Holte today. Why on earth anyone would want to is beyond me. I assumed they were Chelski fans in disguise, but when Delph scored, I noticed one of them seemed so happy and turned round and was busy filming the crowd's reaction. There was a Chelski fan in front of me, I clocked his attempt at trying to disguise his joy before the goal was disallowed. Also saw his Chelski screensaver on his mobile phone. As we were leaving, to my shame, couldn't resist telling him I knew he was a Chelski fan. Instantly regretted it as the aggression in his response of 'Yes, so what?' actually scared me. For a second.

Also, if anyone whose last name is Savage is wondering what happened to their bank card, I found it at half time and handed it to a steward.

Happy days.

Top day all round.

Decent weather. Had a pint with a bloke bringing his three grandkids  from Coventry and then two old boys before taking my seat.
The match was what I want at VP - incident, endeavour and a little skill with passionate support.

Well done Joe Bennett - well done Leandro Bacuna - well done Vlarr and Baker - well done the midfield - good on Gabby for having a run at them a couple of times - damn you Benteke for making me think it wasn't our day when you shot wide - calm down a bit Weimann use your energy better - thanks for turning the screw Marc - well held Clarky.

But most of all thanks to all the Villans at VP for the atmosphere that grew and grew - it was like the "Old Days" TM

Oh - fuck off Chelsea

Look up satisfaction in the dictionary and it will say Villa 1 Slime 0.

The least likeable team in all my Villa supporting years. Whoever else they play on the day is my 2nd team for that day.

Back 4 were terrific. Midfield competed and got in their faces.

Lambert got the subs bang on.

The atmosphere was fantastic. Place was rocking.

Against a team that are challenging for the title. My kids are wearing their Villa tops since 9am.

Im watching MOTD again!

The Moaning one is blaming the referee. There's a fucking shock. Suck my claret and blue balls you boring whinging twat.

But hold on, surely you just have to be mature and know you can't ref the game. I have it on good authority that is what managers should do as someone told me in August last year.

Absolutely. I believe he added that managers who complain afterwards are naive and still have some growing up to do. Today he says Gabby is as bad as Ramires as he was pointing his finger at people aggressively! It was nice that after a string of Chelsea fans rang 606 to complain about the decisions Mark Chapman recalled the reverse fixture. I thought we were magnificent from start to finish today. Every single player. Good football, good organisation and great commitment to the cause.

I'm buzzing for you and your son.

What a joy that was! Great effort and some sterling performances. Bacuna is really growing on me, in fact all of the back four were tremendous. On evenings like that with 40000 in and the crowd rocking VP is a great place to be. Seeing that performance, how the hell did we manage to be so crap so often previously?
Thought we played a much higher line first half which worked really well, there were an awful lot of long balls from Chelsea which we dealt with very well.
I want more, let's see off Stoke next.

Danlanza needs to monopolise all match threads from now on !!

Indeed, the Lanzarote lion is our very own special one :)
" I prefer not to say anything as i will get into trouble. I cannot comment on the marvelous referee, again i will get into trouble.
I cannot comment on Ramires, the dirty, mask wearing, streak of piss, horrible little tossing stamping fuck pig, because i will get into trouble.
I again cannot comment on the Fabien Delphe goal that was better than anything that Ronaldo has in his locker, or will ever have, if it had of been him scoring that goal it would have been shown WORLD WIDE on thousands of channels.
I cannot comment on our plastic Home Counties fans, who, made the long trip to Villa park today, only to see us totally out classed and out played by a very, very good Aston Villa side who deserved their victory but were lucky bastards because we had another dirty fucker sent off."

Todays performance was the best for a very long time. Solid in every area, a first this season.
Thank you Aston Villa. I fucking love you.

Title: Re: Aston Villa v The Plastic Knobbers-Post Match Thread
Post by: Monty on March 15, 2014, 10:10:41 PM
Mourinho might want to look at the post-match interview from the return fixture, when he counselled Lambert to keep as calm and as wise as he after Ivanovic got away with assault and went on to score the winner. The difference is that today's decisions were right, and the ones earlier on in the season were wrong. Sour c**t.

Anyway, Lambo, stop making me want you sacked before you turn into Alf bloody Ramsey! We've been getting better, and the performance against Norwich after going behind is starting to look like a turning point. It's not cleared away all the problems, but this is the second season in a row which has started alright, got absolutely abysmal then - thus far - turned around spectacularly. Tell you what, it's not dull.

It's great to see so many saying how well Joe Bennett played.
I agree with the ones who thought it was a MotM performance. In truth you could take your pick from 5 or 6.

I will say that I though Nathan Baker was excellent, He played for 86 minutes on a yellow card, and was faultless.

Amazing stuff, I can't quite believe it. Delph will steal the headlines but I thought the back four were all superb. I can only remember Hazard getting past Bacuna once, Bennett showed much better positional awareness than usual and Baker was very solid.

I've heavily criticized Lambert pretty much all season but he got things spot on today. Tactics, team selection and subs. Full marks to him and every single player.

The fact that it was against Chelsea who I absolutely detest just makes it even sweeter.

Chelsea are incredibly classless, that's what they do. It is their shtick.

Great performance and result today. When we play with real confidence, we are so much better.

Also, noticeable today how hard we worked to close them down and get the ball back when we didn't have it. That, for me, has been the obvious common factor in most of our wins this season. We need to do it more.

Lowton should take a long look at Joe Bennett. This is how you deal with falling out of favour. The lads clearly rolled his sleeves up and got his just reward today. Well done to Lambert too for not sticking to a set in stone pecking order. Exactly how it should be.

Wonderful game with as good a finale as there has been for a long time. Incredible goal from Delph, and deserved praise. I guess someone outside of VP was going to notice him sooner or later.

Ramirez should get a lengthy ban. He deliberately shortened his stride to stamp on KEA. It wasn't a bad tackle it was intentional thuggery.

It wasn't quite in Doug's class, but I liked the handshake Lambert got out of Mourinho as he departed for the stands.

Reading some of the Chelsea forums is comedy gold, Chris Foy isn't popular...I thought he made two poor decisions in Willians 2nd yellow & setting the tone for pedantic reffing booking Baker so early.  Matic 'goal' was a handball, Bennett was a yellow not a red & Ramires was an assault, good refereeing.

Great, great performance, can't criticise any of them, more next week please!!  Better team won the game, simple!!!

Final thing, Terry!!! Didn't know he had the pace he showed when sprinting 80yds (with Azpiwhatshisname) to snarl into Foy's face.  Such an utter pair of scrotes.....

I'm a big Jose fan but he was wrong after the game about his own sending off.

Yes, Lambert and Gabby were on the pitch along with Jose in the initial melee. However, Jose was the only one who, after things had calmed down, went back onto the pitch to confront the Ref.

I'm actually disappointed that Matic did handle the ball for the disallowed goal. It would have been even more satisfying to gave won because of a a Refs cock up.

What a good performance. Nobody could say there wasn't one player not to contribute to that.

Delph deserved his MOTM, great game. Thought that both of our full-backs had the best games anyone in that position has had this season. Bacuna looked good defensively and I think Bennett deserves to start next week after that.

I've been very critical of Albrighton in the past (and rightly so in my opinion as he's been very shit), however, the few games he's played recently suggests there could be yet some good times for h at Villa. Has he found a new potential position in the Gabby/Andi role???

Feel harsh not mentioning everyone else because they deserve it. Really happy.

And Mourinhio, Terry and Cheslea once again showed why they are the biggest ******...ever!!!

I think they must go down as the most odious and vile team...ever!

I couldn't name a standout player as all our players put in a shift tonight.

Chelsea have always been a horrible club. I noticed their fans were throwing coins & lighters at the linesman towards the end of the game (even though it was just down to the fact their players seemed to have forgotten the offside rule all game)

They always say a manager's personality matches their teams style of play. You can tell this as Mourinho has turned into a miserable & bitter person.

They are such a nasty, horrible little club with a lot of questionably attained money, and still have not bought an ounce of class in any of their signings. They are all so similar in their shitty attitudes and shitty ways. Mourinho suits them down to the ground.

Villa were excellent, all the way through, all of the team, but I have to give special praise to KEA and Baker. I moan about them a lot, but they have been excellent last few games, and were so again. Delph was MOM by a street but those 2 deserve a lot of praise.

Lovely to see Chelsea, one of the most classless clubs ever to grace the planet, heading down the M6 with their tails between their legs.   As for Terry, his attitude stinks and I hope that the police view the video of him gobbing off at the family enclosure.  At the very least it is a "Breach of the Peace" and I would love to see him dragged before three beaks and given a dressing down for his pathetic behaviour.

We need to keep performing at that level though - if we do 3 points against Stoke should be a piece of oatcake.

Gosh, that's quite the most incredible thing I've seen on here for a long, long time. You are actually a big fan of that wanker? That utter utter tosser? Goodness me...

Disappointed with Terry if true. I've seen a human side to him in the past (Petrov testimonial as an example) and would have expected better from him.
It's a game of football at the end of the day , he's a lucky man getting paid millions to do a "job" - play football. If he's verbally abused the kids and parents that's disgusting.

Him being sent to the stands was harsh in isolation, but watching it back on MOTD, he got in the ear of the forth ref before and during the game, waving imaginary cards in the air and squaring up to Lambert.

I believe it was a bit of payback from the ref.

Is the summary on BBC Text about tactically astute Villa beating a team worth 10x more with a world class goal? Don't be naive. It's all about Mourinho slagging off the ref, who had a brilliant match, except maybe the 2nd yellow for Willian was a bit soft. Disallowing Chelsea's goal was superb sharp-eyed officiating by ref and lineo.

I thought Chris Foy had an excellent match even though I was annoyed early on as he gave them all 50/50s. He consulted the other officials on their goal and Ramires red card. I was sure he had allowed the handball goal to stand and then changed his decision upon advise from linesman. I also liked the way blew for full time straight away after the injury time sending offs as he was not going to allow Chelsea to benefit from kerfuffle they caused.

Here's Rob Beasley's not at all biased take in The Sun:

Quote
CHELSEA’S title hopes were shown the red card by controversial referee Chris Foy at Villa Park.
For Foy took centre stage after sending off Blues boss Jose Mourinho, two of his players and disallowing a Blues goal.

Mourinho followed in the wake of Brazilian midfielders Ramires and Willian on a day of disaster for the league leaders.

Chelsea stay top but there is no doubt the title race is now Manchester City’s to lose.

But even City will not be able to believe the circumstances or the manner of their rival’s reverse.

The Londoners were bossing proceedings from the off, albeit without finding the cutting edge that has been an intermittent problem this term. Lots of possession and play but not enough penetration and invention.

But their hopes of edging home in the end went up in smoke when Willian was dismissed in the 69th minute.

A first-half booking for a foul came back to haunt him when he raced for the ball with match-winner Fabian Delph.

There did not seem much in it but Foy blew for a foul and then quickly reached into his pocket and brandished a second yellow and then a red.

It was a shocker of a decision It was barely a foul, let alone a booking — yet Foy went on and spoiled the game — and possibly this season’s great title race.

Inevitably, Chelsea were stunned and Delph made them pay with the winner.

And there was worse to follow as Ramires was sent off for what appeared to be a stamp.

That brought Villa manager Paul Lambert and some of his bench racing on to the pitch in protest.

When Foy raised his second red, Mourinho walked on the pitch to challenge him.

The Portuguese was then sent off and could not believe it, holding his arms out as if to ask “Why?”

A black day getting blacker by the moment.

And if the Blues do not win the league this season, the man in black will have played a key part in their downfall.

Foy has a remarkable record of red cards against Chelsea — and that is why his performance here will be scrutinised all the more.

Especially with Chelsea claiming the official was nowhere near as harsh on the Villa at equally key and controversial moments of the game.

It was as dramatic a tea-time encounter as there has ever been.

It all started with Manchester City’s lunchtime win at Hull, so the Blues needed to respond on a ground where Mourinho has never won. No pressure then.

Not that Chelsea showed any nerves in the first half as they set about redressing the balance.

First to threaten was Willian, who cut in smartly from the left to fire a right foot shot into the side-netting. Then Oscar played a clever one-two with him but flashed a shot wide of far post.

Villa’s first serious response came six minutes before the break as Christian Benteke saw his scissor-kick fly across Blues keeper Petr Cech but also wide of the far post.

Two minutes later, though, Chelsea thought they had grabbed an all-important lead.

Nemanja Matic squeezed the ball in at the far post after John Terry flicked on a corner.

But the goal was disallowed for handball, with Foy deeming the Serb had used his bicep to control the ball before forcing it home.

And Mourinho’s frustrations boiled over in the 44th minute.

Ramires surged free only to be taken out by last man Joe Bennett. The Blues boss was leaping on the touchline waving an imaginary red card but again Foy denied the Londoners, showing only a yellow.

And what a good yellow it was as Villa keeper Brad Guzan made easy work of the resulting free-kick from Oscar.

So it was stalemate at the break to crank up the pressure further on the table toppers.

But Chelsea were quickly on the front foot again straight from the restart.

A short corner on the hour saw Eden Hazard and Willian combine to carve out a shot on goal for Oscar but he hit it straight at Guzan on the goal-line.

And all the time the clock was ticking down.

Shortly after the game exploded as Willian saw red.

It was a huge decision. Not just in the context of this game but the ultimate destination of the title. City won with 10. Chelsea were now battling to avoid defeat with 10.

The London side threw caution to the wind and Ron Vlaar was booked for an edge-of-the-box foul on sub Andre Schurrle — Chelsea wanting a red to even things up.

From the free-kick Hazard bobbled a mis-hit beyond the far post. Typical of their finishing.

And then Villa snatched it.

Delph’s surging run made the opening, he fed sub Marc Albrighton and then raced for the return, flicking it home in front of the Holte End.

Chelsea’s dismay deepened with the injury-time dismissals of Ramires and Mourinho — but the biggest blow of all could now come in May.

The most astonishing thing about that article is that it would suggest to anyone who didn't see it that there was some doubt over the Ramires sending off. As others have said, until the Chelsea disallowed goal the ref had given them everything.

I thought Vlaar in the second half looked more like a red than Bennett in the first, and I was convinced it would be given to even things up.

Excellent team performance all round. Seemed to have sorted out the defending issues (when Vlaar is in the team that is). Thought the midfield three deserved a lot of credit, really got stuck in giving them no time on the ball.

It'll be a different game against Stoke though. We are set up to play well against teams who attack us, something that I doubt they'll do. Just need that clever player in the middle who can open teams up. UTV.

Mourinho even made the point that Lambert should have a bit more class and not complain about the decisions...and what of yesterdays game? Yep, we'll be hearing Moaninho bleating on about the ref all bloody week I expect. Fucking tosser.

Well deserved win. Not just based on yesterday but based on the last 3 times we've played those cheating bastards. We were excellent against them at the end of last season but Terry spent the whole game kicking lumps out of Benteke to wind him up and it sadly worked.

We're more than due a victory against Chelsea. On performance grounds, on class grounds and on moral grounds.

it was fantastic but what I'd say was better was the standing ovation we gave at half time after a spirited first half display.

You see that's what people want, none of us are asking for 80% possession at home or 17 wins, just aggression, pressing and some decent passing and we had all 3 last night which helped us win the game so a bit more of that resulting in more than 5-6 home wins would be welcome.

I'd be interested to see what happens next week. I sincerely hope not but Stoke has the air of an West Ham, Palace type game so really hope we don't go back to the turgid football that is our usuall calling card at VP.

Beasley is a Chelsea fan, I think he actually broke the Abramovich takeover story years back but think he was based in the midlands for a bit as a reporter so you'd have hoped for a bit of balance at least in his article seeing as Chelsea only had two shots on target with 11 men.

Although it was a soft sending off-all the major decisions Foy made appeared correct when watching the replays, and for all their dominance up to Willie's walk they only managed 2 shots on target.

One of the reasons I have been proud to support the Villa over the years is that the culture of the team not to cheat, for sure there has been the isolated individual ie Young but generally the game is played the way it should be. Chelsea deserved everything they got yesterday as they reflected everything that is bad about the modern game, from their Manager and his arrogance to players seeking to gain advantage by over dramatising very tackle or body contact. The ideology of 'everything is acceptable in order to win' should be Chelsea's strap line and if it come backs to bite you then have hypocrisy in bucket loads ready and available. I was a very proud individual driving home last night, each and every player that wore claret and blue gave 100% and worked for each other, well done and let's repeat against Stoke.

This is Aston Villa Football Club- and it is perfect.

Chelsea are certainly a team I can't stand nowadays after actually being indifferent to them for the first few years of the Abramovich era.

As I said on the pre match thread it's probably all the ridiculous decisions that have gone against us v them in the last few years so yesterday was perfect.

Finally beating Man. United at Villa park again would top yesterday though, that day has to come sooner or later surely particularly if Moyes remains at the helm for next season.

Classic deflection from the real facts by Mourinho, ref was correct on all the key decisions with the exception of the Willian sending off, which was harsh. He wants to talk about Lambert, Gabby & our bench's reaction to deflect from the real talking point which is the scandalous & deliberate attempt to injure a fellow professional by Ramirez. I have no doubt Terry, Mourinho & Ramirez were making as much effort to get into our dressing room afterwards to make an apology, as they were at trying to confront the ref.

Fully deserved win, Chelsea created nothing, deserved nothing & got nothing.

When they need help, they usually get it, yesterday they didn't. UTV

I was a very proud individual driving home last night, each and every player that wore claret and blue gave 100% and worked for each other, well done and let's repeat against Stoke.

This is Aston Villa Football Club- and it is perfect.

I think that banner they have at their ground saying 'John Terry, Mr Chelsea or Captain Fantastic' or whatever shit it is sums them up perfectly. Utterly soulless, win at all costs, classless bunch of tossers and I absolutely despise everything about them

LOOK at the Holte End!! LISTEN to the Holte End - Guy Mowbray, BBC MOTD commentator. Beautiful moment, beautiful commentary. Will live long in the memory.

His commentary for the build up for the goal is tremendous. Something along the lines of "Delph, too fast for Ramirez, too clever for Matic...."

Wasn't going to go yesterday, but was able to get a ticket thanks to DC5 and VJK - thanks both, that's two wins out of two now :)

What a game. Villa showed fight, commitment and organisation. They played magnificently, all of them. Special mention to el Ahmadi, who was everywhere and played really well IMO; he's taken a lot of stick on here, so its nice to see. We totally deserved it, and Chelsea can have no complaints about the decisions against them.

I've also lost my voice as I went fucking barmy when we scored. Great scenes.

I can't help liking Mourihno though. I know he can come across as a bit of a twat but he's a character and in fairness a bloody good manager. Man Utd really messed up picking Moyes instead of him.

As for Rob Beasley's match report, he couldn't have been more biased if he'd tried. Hinting that the ref has ruined the title race is arrogant and extremely out of touch but that's tabloid journalists by and large for you.

I totally agree. We were particularly good at getting a foot in to nick the ball off them and then either the same player or a team mate picking up the ball if it was loose afterwards. The second bit is where we often let ourselves down. Itwas a throwback to our first two games of the season.

As for Terry, what I found amusing was that after trying to referee the whole game from the start, by the time it all kicked off at the end he seemed to have run out of words. There was a great couple of seconds on MOTD showing him looking shellshocked and speechless. Although it would appear that unfortunately he managed to come up with a few more words as he left the pitch.

I'd like to believe it was due to me starting the Pre-Match thread.

Incredible performance, thoroughly solid in all departments. Can't remember the last time I left a game able to say our entire defence never put a foot wrong.

Much better from us as fans as well, cheering ever tackle. How it needs to be.

I'm vaguely curious as to what John Terry will do when he can no longer play. Can't see him as a pundit, suppose Chelsea will find him a job. Have vague recollections of a survey of women with questions about football, and in a no sh*t Sherlock finding, he was voted a big turn off. And yes, I do realise if the vote had included men, the findings would have been similar.

I can't help liking Mourihno though.

Another one? The only thing I like about Mourinhio is he can't beat the Villa. But otherwise he coaches his teams to be dirty and manipulative even when they have the best skill. He is so two faced and just appears to have the English press fawning over him so much. The Italian and Spanish press marked his card early and called him out which is why he wanted out of there. Yet not one of the main Rags here will point out his indiscrepencies.

Outside of football and the spotlight, he is probably a decent man as shown by the story at RM of the South American fan and others, however, as a football manager, I would not want him anywhere near our club.

Missed the game as I was driving back from 'up north' as I ad been working.

I had to settle for listening to Talksport, when we scored I was flashing my lights and honking the horn, and bouncing around the car hitting the steering wheel and dashboard.

God knows what other drivers were thinking!

Fantastic result, big smiles

Chelsea are certainly a team I can't stand nowadays after actually being indifferent to them for the first few years of the Abramovich era.

As I said on the pre match thread it's probably all the ridiculous decisions that have gone against us v them in the last few years so yesterday was perfect.

Finally beating Man. United at Villa park again would top yesterday though, that day has to come sooner or later surely particularly if Moyes remains at the helm for next season.

Our best chance of beating United at VP would have been if they had appointed Mourinho!

I should be wound up by things like Beasley's piece and Chelsea's wining but as I'm in a great mood it doesn't bother me. If there is one game where we deserved a couple of decisions it is Chelsea after what happened at their place last August. They should also be grateful that a disallowed goal and soft second yellow card have taken the spotlight off possibly the worst tackle of the season.

anyone who might have thought Lambert was losing the team because of some poor results a few weeks back might now want to reassess that position. Not only from the outcome of the game, but also in how we stood up for ourselves and each other throughout the entire 90 minutes. There's a real steel emerging in this side, and even though some of these players won't be here after the summer and others will arrive, yesterday hinted at a cultural change at the club. We've been too long the kicked dog. Now we developing a bit of bite and we showed we're not afraid.

MOTD Extra on now, with Guy Mowbray, Henry Winter and Kevin Kilbane - all saying very complimentary things about Villa and Mowbray saying he was trying to keep a straight face when interviewing the chosen one after the game: 'I'm saying nothing' and then proceeding to say everything except directly call the ref a cheat. I hope the FA see through that and don't pillory Foy, who i thought had a good game and worked with his linesmen well (and that's not just because we won).

The Man U & Citeh jobs were available but both clubs have more class than to appoint the likes of Mourinho. He may deliver results but little else & he's certainly nothing special. Excellent performance which fully deserved the three points.  Thought Chelsea for all their posession were pretty poor to be honest, and Mourinho blundered by not using Lampard given his record against us.

Just found this on Here is the City website.

"Jose Mourinho had a lot he could potentially complain it about last night. No matter what people say it is first and foremost clear that Chris Foy does not like him, and does not like Chelsea.

Whether that impacts on his decision making I am not sure but overall Foy had a poor game.

Joe Bennett should have walked for that foul on Willian, the Brazilian winger should never have been shown a second yellow and if Mourinho did enough to get sent to the stands then the entire dugout should have emptied.

Oh the Ramires tackle? No, Foy did not get that right.

Let me clarify.

Ramires 100% deserved to receive his marching orders. It was a horrendous, potentially career ending and perhaps the most petulant foul of the year so far.

But Chelsea players and their manager cannot disagree he deserved to walk for that - but they can say Foy didn’t see it.

Because he definitely didn’t.

He made the decision based on the reaction of Aston Villa players and hopefully his assistant referee - not from what he saw, so there could be grievance there"

I've been prompted to come share a pic here (thanks Martyn), couldn't work out which one, i took loads, these might be the best 4. At half time there was talk of a good omen in the claret & blue sunset.

I've said elsewhere, on 1st April I go offline for 4months on Buddhist ordination retreat. I can handle totally missing the World Cup, but I am might grateful to be going into the unknown 'spiritual death' of that of that space (kind of the end of the old me i get a new name, the 'spiritual rebirth') with a bit less relegation anxiety now. That was my last game in a while, just so great to share being in the Holte with my Dad. 3 points next Sunday would be marvelous too.

I've had one or two auspicious signs of late, some pretty miraculous Northern Lights on my birthday over Reykjavik, the day after which I got my invite to be ordained. A fellow buddhist villa fan couldn't make it, we met for lunch in town yesterday as i was up from London for the day, he reckons the Villa have given me a good send off. I'd have to agree, thanks AVFC! 8)
I hope we show some patience in the tougher moments too. :o

Just watched MOTD. Have to admit that at the time, I did think there was something a bit Weimannesque about the finish for the goal. Maybe the perspective from my seat didn't help. How wrong was I! And with regards to the Bennett incident, did none of these pundits watch Rocket Ron outstripping their attackers all game long? Wouldn't have caught him? Tish and pish.
Can't fault a single player, they were all fantastic for ninety minutes, but I tip my cap to the back four, sirs. Calm, controlled, organized, the stuff of the best Villa defences. Baker may have come of age yesterday, to play virtually the entire game on a yellow card in the manner he did just nudges him up for my Motm.
Still smiling.

My pleasure to share, I was what's app-ing them about late last night and got told to get on here & share!!!
My nursing-lecturer Chelsea colleague hasn't replied though, but he may be away. He was magnanimous about their lucky win at Stamford Bridge, there are some good Chelsea folk.

There was a Chelsea dad and son next to me in the Holte. They were well behaved and did nothing wrong. As there were two empty seats between us, it was only at the end of the goal celebrations and I turned and noticed his son was looking devastated. I made eye contact with the Dad and he started clapping straight away. I'm sure we've all snuck in the wrong end, I had no problem with them being there. I certainly enjoyed our dominant last 10 mins!!!

I thought after Sunderland and Palace home games we went to, we might have to resort to stadium tours only for joy, I'll save you the pics of me and Dad as we did that on Dec 27th, but thoroughly enjoyed a visit to Villa Park at that point for a change! (Do go on a tour if you haven't...)

There's a radio show on here in the morning hosted by Chelsea TV bloke Neil Barnett. As much as the show is meant to be about football generally, you can play a game to see if a Chelsea reference is not made in 5 minutes of listening. It's never happened as far as I am aware. They could be discussing football on Saturn and somehow Barnett gets in a Chelsea related reference. I digress. Anyway, tomorrow should be brilliant because he'll be depressed and given it his best, considering he's employed by the club to defend all things Chelsea. It's possible I might go off the road if he manages to provide us with any credit whatsoever. Still I will take much joy in his misery on my drive to work at 7am.

Have just read Beasleys match report after lots of people slagged it, he must have been sitting in Jose`s office when he wrote that, typical London bias from the Sun, no suprise there, i will never forgive that shithouse rag for the way they virtually ignored Villa winning the League in `81 and European Cup while almost Jerking off around the clock because their beloved fucking Tottenham Hotspur won the FA cup 2 years on the bounce beating such luminaries as Hull and Carlisle on the way. No, lets not allow some snot nosed little twat from the Sun to ruin a magnificent result/performance, it was DESERVED and they know it, BOTH sendings-off were correct, whether they like it or not, Joe Bennet was not last man, it wasnt a bad foul so he stayed on the pitch, NOTE TO ALAN SHEARER, IT IS NOT THE REFEREES JOB TO DECIDE WHO`S FASTER, Son, you were a great player, but a shit TV Pundit. Yesterday was full of Positives (the aforementioned Joe Bennets performance, being one of them) and virtually no negatives, yesterday we looked a proper handful for any side, long may it continue.

Be doing some damage to that bottle of single malt tonight for sure!
good on ya mate !

Happy days.
Anyone whose last name is savage?

Should've shouted the whole of the holte end a beer with it!

I want more, let's see off Stoke next.
belief.

Ya gotta believe.

Nice one, a trip up to Lake Eildon fell through. Mind the fighter planes were interesting, close to my balcony yesterday arvo.

See a lot of Big 4 club shirts around on Sundays here poncing about. I don't usually do this but think I shall don my '95, AST Computer era shirt today.

A Good Idea
the white one with the claret collar was absolute class. I always give my shirts away when travelling . That one went to a guy from st Helena when I was working in the Falklands.

I really can't understand all this super Holte End nonsense. It was the Witton End and specially the Lower that made all the noise yesterday. Holte end is just a myth now days. They are asleep almost for entire 90 mins and sometimes stir into life  when woken up by Witton End boys with their endless jihad against away fans!

Have to disagree with you there, when there's a lot of noise you can't really say it's not largely from the Holte as it was yesterday.

For various reasons I couldn't watch the game so relied on WM. It was Daz Hale and Mike Taylor, so the usual negativity and cynical sneering was notably absent. I was busy doing one thing and another but I was drawn towards the game by the atmosphere, Hale remarked on this a number of times. Even on an old fashioned transistor the place sounded like it was rocking, and the noise when the goal went in had me taken aback, more so than the fact we had scored.

This was then confirmed on here and by Murphy's tweet and the coverage and commentary on MOTD. We all know how special Villa Park can be, it's nice to see it and indeed hear it, and receive the plaudits.

No matter how much money, how much hyperbole, preening, posing, outrageous sportsmanship and media support a club like Chelsea get they can never hope to match the special atmosphere that, on occasion, takes your breath away when the home team take the field at a grand old stadium such as ours.

No wonder they get angry.

Spot on. On a similar note, not saying Barcelona don't have soul, but have you noticed how bored their fans look when they score? Compare that to 'look at the Holte End, listen to the Holte End'. Makes me ask myself if it's perhaps preferable to be a bit crap (but still the greatest club of course).

Only just seen Lambert's interview comments on the beeb.
Particularly like this little dig back at José

Quote
The manager also criticised Mourinho after the Chelsea boss's scathing assessment of referee Chris Foy's performance.
"I know what Jose's doing - he's been around the block. If you go on about decisions it deflects from the performance. But we deserved this," insisted Lambert.

It was almost worth enduring the dross we've had to endure for most of the season so far to get a result and performance Like that. The best feeling I've had leaving Villa Park since, since I can't remember.  Just wonderful stuff.  The defence were magnificent, worked hard throughout and superbly marshaled by Vlaar who is a great leader.  I don't know whether it was Chelsea forwards ineptitude or our ability to hold the line but catching them offside as many times as we did made us look a classy outfit.  The pressure is off now so we should be really able to express ourselves positively from now till the end of the season.

Just wanted to mention that the Here Is The City articles are just clickbait. I don't know who writes for them and who they support but the articles seem to be consistently horrendous, biased twaddle that I made a promise to myself that I will never, ever click on again. The bits you've quoted don't surprise me at all.

What a wonderful game to get 3 points from!
We came out of this game with dignity and spirit and with a lot of people thinking that we have something of great promise here.
Chavski came out of it looking like spoilt brats and thugs, led by the biggest spoilt brat of all in the Special One! He seemed to be shocked that the ref wouldn't stop the game so that he could talk to him! He immediately deflects attention away from his own team's appalling response to being q goal down to Lambert and Gabby being on the pitch. Has he said anything about their hoofball tactics in the last 10 minutes? Ramires' "tackle"? Foy giving them everything going in the 1st half? His players' constantly berating the ref for not giving them what they wanted?
Complete wanker leading some pretty choice complete wankers!

Hard to find a weakness in our individual performances yesterday. Been critical of KEA in the past. Thought he was immense yesterday, and Delph put the Chavski "stars" to shame!
Proud, proud Villain.

Think Guy Mowbray is from the North east.

Simon Brotherton on MOTD is a villa fan, I was actually speaking to him on the tube back from Arsenal away a few seasons ago, he got onto my carriage at Holloway Road with his BBC jacket on.

Jonathon Pearce is another who isn't a villa fan but is usually complimentary about us when he does our games.

United at Villa park again would top yesterday though, that day has to come sooner or later surely particularly if Moyes remains at the helm for next season.
was just thinking before, beating them at old Trafford would make my season now.

Garth Crooks team of the week.
MIDFIELDER - Fabian Delph (Aston Villa)
Finally Aston Villa got what they deserved against Chelsea and Fabian Delph was at the centre of everything they did well with his energy and work-rate. I saw Paul Lambert's team play Chelsea off the park at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season and got nothing for all their hard work.
They were even better at Villa Park and Delph was the star of the show. I know Guy Mowbray asked the midfielder in his post-match interview whether he meant his Cruyff flick for his goal. The look of disbelief on Delph's face was a picture - he definitely intended it.
Did you know? Fabian Delph had not scored in any of his 50 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa before this season, but has now scored three in 26 in 2013-14.

I read a post match thread of theirs yesterday evening and to be fair only one of them claimed Ramires should not have had a red. The rest shot him down pretty quickly and firmly. I read some quotes from Mourinho yesterday. Apparently refs should take the time to speak with "Experienced managers like myself". Be honest Jose, you basically mean they should just take the time to speak to you because your so special and fantastic. The rest was a paragraph on him repeatedly saying he will say nothing, absolutely nothing about the ref and his decisions then a paragraph on him talking about the ref and his decisions.

Was one of the voters for Villa win, but thats more because I cant find it within my self to "Vote" for anything but a Villa win.  I did have a feeling in the waters that we could get something.  Absolutely gripping game.  I think that is as strong a starting eleven that has come to VP over the last four to five seasons and wow, Hazard is tremendous..... but Bacuna and Bennet were immense and saw off the pressure from the wings.  best defensive display by Bennett in his time here.  Baker got a soft yellow card early on (which ironically led to Willians second yellow, yup that was soft, but Foy set his prescedent), but from then on with Vlaar rendered that team pretty toothless.  Our front three kept their back four working very hard which created space ini the middle for Westwood Kea and Delph to exploit.  Not a player on the pitch that didnt graft his backside off.  Terrific stuff

What i found very pleasing about Foy's game was that he never once gave into any of the moaning from the Chelsea players or their obnoxious twat of a manager.
Some refs buckle when they are in charge and seem to favour the so called "Big Teams." Foy didn't bottle it once. It made a refreshing change.
Phil Dowd and others should take note of this imo.

Foy made go his decisions quickly too before Chelsea had chance to badger him - was nice seeing terry sprinting towards him after the Bennett tackle only to see foy immediately flash the yellow card before terry could call for a red.

I've seen a couple of people suggest the ramires red was harsh, what fucking planet are these people from, that was a leg breaker, KEA is very lucky he wasn't badly hurt, 3 games isn't long enough for me.

As for the 'ball to hand' argument that they seem to be using to suggest their goal shouldn't have been disallowed, his arm was away from his body and there is no chance he could've scored if it hadn't hit his arm, therefore it's a handball.

Denying a goal scoring opportunity seems to be deliberately vague to allow referees generally to favour the big clubs. According to Poll and Halsey Ramirez was denied a clear goal scoring opportunity, despite being outside the area and a covering defender in attendance. Going back to our League Cup final against Manure though Gabby WASNT didn't have a clear opportunity despite being in the six yard box and drawing back his foot to shoot with no covering defenders - Beats me!  All I know is we deserved it and all credit to Foy for not buckling although he will no doubt suffer for it

The Bennett one would've been incredibly harsh to give a red, he was going more towards the corner flag than the goal and Vlaar was close enough to have put him under pressure had he carried on.  Add in that it was about 25yards out and there is no way you can call that a clear goalscoring opportunity, the ref got it spot on.  I also find it a bit rich for the likes of Poll and Halsey to criticise over this when their default position when the big clubs get these against them is to back the ref.  They were attention seeking wannabes when they were on the pitch and they're still the same now, pair of wankers.

So Mournho wants it set in stone that Chris Foy cannot ref, run the line or be fourth official at any Chelsea game. He would therefore not come into any future contact with Mourinho or John Terry. They should organise a petition. I reckon the first one to sign it would be Chris Foy.

He wants to be Fergie and wants the officials and press to deify him in the same way.  Defend the ref/slag the opposition manager when things go in your favour (the Stamford Bridge game), complain about the ref and act hard done by when you don't get things your way.  Having people like Poll and Halsey back him will just encourage him more, I just hope he gets the same level of patience as previous Chelsea managers if they don't win anything.

Loved watching my son's reaction to the goal, sendings off and full time whistle on Saturday, he was loving it! We didn't get back until late on Saturday and then Billy wanted to watch the highlights that were recorded so by the time he went to sleep it was about one in the morning. Unfortunately he had to be up early to play football on Sunday, I tried to motivate him by saying take inspiration from Villa, he turned in two of the most half arsed, half hearted performances any 10 year old has given! He looked knackered.

The atmosphere on Saturday reminded me of the good old days and the Chelsea supporters we encountered on the train to Aston were the biggest bunch of loud mouthed, arrogant wankers you could imagine. Billy is glad the Stoke match on his birthday was moved now as he chose the Chelsea game to attend instead.

Having attended the game at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season it was sweet to get the revenge and like someone stated earlier we should have had 6 points off them.

I love the difference between them and us. Of course I'd like a tiny bit of their success but not at the expense of what we have. When they scored their winner in August they waved their silly bloody big flags they have on the touch line, clapped a bit and the flash bulbs went on the mobiles.

Compare that to what even MOTD spotted when Delph scored: Proper footy fans of all ages going barmy.

Mourinho only has himself to blame. Playing a semi-fit Torres did nothing for their attack that failed to do much throughout the game. Our defence marshalled by Vlaar were superb, as were the midfield three that dropped deep, limiting the space for Chelsea but given the quality and options he has available, I'd say tactically he got it wrong.

We kept them out for an hour but in the last 30 minutes, before Willian was sent off, we finally started to show signs of intent ourselves. The Benteke effort on 66 minutes seemed to lift both the players and the fans, the sending off raised it further and with the space vacated by Willian, Delph came into his own. Great to see Albrighton switching wings too. It made us a very tricky side to defend against as we attacked from all angles.

Overall it was a great defensive display with a world class goal but I'm still struggling to understand why Benteke is choosing to play out wide and deep far too often. Apart from his one great effort, he never really threatened Chelsea the way we all know he can. If we can get him back in the centre and provide him with more service against Stoke, we should have far too much for them.

Great to see Lambert finally realised that the hoofing is pointless. When we play it on the ground we look a far better team.

Decisions wise, I'll be big enough to say I thought Will I Am's was harsh, but it's just karma for what happened at their place.

As for us, about as complete a performance as I can recall under Lambert.  We get it right tactically, worked very hard and showed ability of our own when we needed to.  Bennett had his best game in a Villa shirt, Bacuna had his best game defensively for us and our midfield worked a treat.  Delph got MOTM, but if Westwood keeps playing like that he'll be talked about as an England candidate as well.

Now, just don't fuck it up against Stoke!

Mourinho only has himself to blame. Playing a semi-fit Torres did nothing for their attack that failed to do much throughout the game.

That's a good point. I did have a feeling he was going to score before the game but the only time I felt overly worried was when Demba Ba came on.

I don't know about semi-fit, but Torres has been semi-shit for ages now. I cannot believe they're still persevering with him, I'm glad they are though.

Coming out of Wembley in 2010, being stuck on the car park as the coaches queued up to get into that poxy industrial estate between the ground and North London, every Villa fan on those coaches had to endure Chelski fans putting up seven fingers, bleating on about nothing and even burning Villa flags. I remember thinking 'you live in London, why the fuck are you still here?'

It always feels good to get one over on these classless wankers.

The moaning one's comments on the 21st August
Quote
Paul has a certain type of personality – he reminds me of myself 10 years ago when I was complaining every decision, when I wanted to coach my team and at the same time have a whistle at my lips. He's a young manager, very intelligent, he will change

If Lambert did say "he reminds me of myself" post match, then that's a quality slap down to The Patronising One.

he did and it is brilliant because looking back now that's exactly what he meant when he said it. I'd forgotten Mourinho had come out with that gem after our game at Stamford Bridge so for Lambert to drop in that grenade is genius.

I honestly think Lambert and Mourinho rather like each other. Also mourinho has always spoken very respectfully towards our club, he did after the game as well.

The ref, not so much :)

That's my stance on him exactly.

First time around, he was entertaining enough. Had all the faults he has now, but he managed to just about stay the right side of irritating.

This time around, he's just really fucking boring.

I just love the idea that they really hate us, because we've got their number.  Yes, they've had a couple of big wins over us in recent years but we've frustrated/beaten them home and away possibly more than any other 'big' club.  Horrible, classless bastards.

It was quite a surreal sight that day to see a load of them on an open top bus shower another lot stood outside a pub with the stuff. I just hoped that it had previously been used as described in the song.

When we played Man U at Wembley and to a lesser extent Leeds there was good pre-match banter e.g outside the Greyhounds. Against Chelsea they were just intent on giving it large and being tossers.

Our hotel was like a battleground at one stage. There was some good 'banter' with some of them, spent a few hours talking to some with zero problems. There was plenty of trouble though as well.

The complete opposite of Man City fans, who are still mostly pretty likable. I was among their away fans at Spurs in January (don't ask) and most of them still felt like they couldn't believe that they had got this lucky and were just enjoying the ride for as long as it lasted. The look of glee on the old boy's face next to me was an utter joy.

It's been a great 48 hours with lots of compliments from friends and colleagues who support other teams.  Ok some are Citeh and Liverpool so have a vested interest in Chavski being beaten, but plenty of others who said we thoroughly deserved it.

I love the Villa when they make people who haven't text me for a bit get in touch for the right reasons!

I'm on Holiday in Dubai at the moment and the general guffaws and back slapping that greeted the last 10 minutes after we scored were brilliant. Fair play to the several fans of other club who joined me in a victory lap around the hotel bar on the final whistle and the cheerio waves to the 3 Chelsea fans who scarpered on the final whistle.  Still smiling.......

Anyone read this.
Mourinho at his arrogant worst.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11677/9218204/jose-mourinho-calls-on-premier-league-to-stop-sending-chris-foy-to-chelsea-games

Go on the Jose - dont you really mean you would like to list the refs that can do your games

I like you a lot, your achievements are incredible especially as you were never a player, but please have some dignity you classless wanker - accept defeat graciously

His motive, I assume, is that next time he does one of their games the spotlight will be firmly on him and any decision he gives against them will be magnified. Just hope he's got the balls not to be cowed by it.

Listening to the Sunday Supplement podcast today it was surprising that they were a little less Mourinho is great at everything then I thought they would be. However it took the Sun's foreign football correspondent (Spanish I think so is not swayed by him) to mention the obvious things.

Although Lambert and Gabby were on the pitch, only Moanihio went across to speak to the ref. And Foy might have sent off 6 Chelsea players previously but it might be worth checking to see if they deserved it. Well these are two from QPR in 2011.  (http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2011/10/23/qpr-vs-chelsea-1-0-highlights-video-2011-bosingwa-drogba-red-cards/) You can see why both was given and the first although harsh, as he decided it was a foul, it was a red.

Watching the bame again. This time with volume and it's a great sound coming from us. Great atmosphere. And how well we're playing second half. Even before the sending off we were getting on top and tearing into a team who, before Saturday, we're being described by many as nailed on champions. And we're tearing them a new one. Keeping the ball and playing well. Lose the ball and harry harry harry until we get it back. It really is a joy to watch.  And something I couldn't fully appreciate through nerves the first time round.

Interestingly, listening to David Pleat as the co-commentator, and he is someone who usually speaks of highly as a club even referring to us as The Villa, he immediately called the Willian red card as a foul because he nudged him from behind when Delph was in full flow. Even after replays he was just saying that it was a shove.

As for the Vlaar challenge that just sounds like looking for a reason to blame anyone else but yourselves. It was always a yellow.

David Pleat seems to have a bit of a soft spot for us similar to Cloughie back in the day. I always get he same impression from Gary Birtles too.

He called every decision Foy ade as being correct - largely because they were - and at the end said "this is where Chelsea lose friends".  Again spot on.

I still feel great. May this thread never end.

It's clear that Mourinho is merely trying to distract the attention away from his teams performance which is annoying to a degree because so many of the media have gone with the controversy over the winning team's performance. But, in a funny way it could be good for us. Focus on Mourinho rather than having the team being under the spotlight after such a good win and performance. It will allow them to concentrate fully for Stoke whilst maybe thinking they've got something to prove because of the lack of full credit.

Was it Morris or Terry that got done for assaulting a nightclub bouncer just as they were starting to break through?

I'm sure one (or maybe both) got turned away from a nightclub and starting giving the big "don't you know who I am" which quickly escalated into fisticuffs and assault charges.

Anyway it's not always bad news for them.

Jody Morris was an odious little shit as well. That fucking stupid trumpet celebration he did. I for one was amused he was washed up by the time he was about 25.

His Wiki entry includes

Morris has had a bad image over several legal and ethical issues. Chronologically, these include allegations that: he was one of a group of Chelsea players who drunkenly abused American tourists at Heathrow Airport within hours of the 9/11 attacks on New York City and the Pentagon;[20] that he was involved in a drunken brawl (in 2002);[21] that he was involved in a sexual assault (in 2003).[22][23] He was also arrested for drink-driving on 1 November 2006, after driving the wrong way down a one-way street. Morris, who had one previous conviction for drink-driving, was disqualified from driving for four years, given 80 hours community service and a two-year suspended jail sentence.[24]
