Stronger team than I expected - lets hope benteke can rediscover his scoring touch - Guzan and gabby aside that's possibly the strongest team he could play .

What a gesture of disdain to the fans, the opposition and the competition and the tradition and history it represents to play such a terrible...

Oh wait, that's our first team.

I was very much hoping Benteke would play and finally gets back to banging in goals. I think that's how Lambert has seem it too.

More than anything I want us to go at the opposition from the off. This is VP, and we've been awful for the most part. We need to play today like we did against Everton and take our chances. This game, though against lower league opposition can help exorcise some demons, or at least start the process.

No, it's bizarre because all that fuss could have been completely avoided by giving his customary straight bat answers.

The fuss has been created by people deciding he'd given up on the FA Cup, which was never the case and has been proved to be completely wrong.

No.  The fuss was created by a Premier League manager saying he could do without the FA Cup.  He dropped a bollock there and invited pressure on himself.  There's no shame in that though, I expect he was caught a little off guard given the news about Kozak.

I hope there's as much fuss made over every other manager who will have dropped players as has been made over Lambert then for lying to their fans expecting a full strength line up today. I imagine many sides will be holding post Europa league style dinners.

If he's given a straight bat answer there'd have been all the usual 'oh look he said we go again' crap, damned if you do damned if you don't, In which case I'd rather he tell it as it is than do the Mourinho/Pellegrini  shit of saying they're taking it seriously whilst resting half a team.

Good grief man.  He gave an unguarded answer which he probably later regretted and caused a short-lived fuss over the proper level of respect for the best cup competition in the world.  People make mistakes sometimes.

Yes, that would be excellent for our young squad.  There was a manager in the league recently who liked to single out his players for bad performances, how many games did he last again?

On topic, happy with that team, Weimann and Benteke both need a goal so happy for them to start.  I'd like to see 2 of donacien, tonev and Helenius get at least half an hour unless we're in trouble.

Whereas 'we could do without the extra few games in the FA Cup (and remaining chance of silverware this season) because we want to stay in the Premier League' is really going to lift everyone's spirits.  Jeez.

I think it says more about the strength of the squad, not sure he had that much choice without giving up the game and coming in for a boa load of criticism.
Our second string are no where near good enough to take on the Blades.

Strong side. Play Weimann just off Benteke? 4-2-3-1? I'd like to see Andy playing through the middle because he's bobbins out wide and it's only adding to his lack of confidence.

Helenius needs a good 30 minutes in this one too.

That's how interpreted it. Many others didn't.
To be fair, it's not unreasonable to infer from what he said that he'd rest players from the FA Cup to save them for the league.  That's the obvious conclusion.  To see today that he hasn't done so is a) great, and b) makes me wonder, as I said, whether he changed his mind over the last couple of days.

What I find very hard to reconcile is the public display of unity by Agbonlahor with the players and the coaching staff.   If they are so loyal and so committed to the coaching staff and to each other, why can't they deliver on the pitch?   They must know that Lambert is going to get slaughtered if we lose.   Is their togetherness so fake and so feeble that they cannot rouse themselves from the torpor which engulfs them on their home ground?

I don't think I heard Tonev or Westwood mentioned once in that 45 minutes.

Someone at the club has to wake up and acknowledge that this is just not good enough, and then start to do something about it.

Our signings in the summer were poor, but Tonev is probably the worst.

Oh dear. Need to put 5 strikers on and see how that works.

Well, if this scoreline doesn't change in the next 15 mins, it'll be time for 2-0-8 and lump it up front again, just like last time we got humiliated by a team of postmen and milkmen on our own pitch.

Shockingly poor player. Has no ability whatsoever. He can hit a ball quite hard, he can run fast. Unfortunately he can't pass, can't control a ball or run with the ball at his feet either. One of the worst players I've seen for us.

How can we accept a manager that deliberately chooses to come out from the FA cup?
10, 100, 1000 John Gregory.

You've lost me.

Why the surprise?  An equally inept Villa side was outplayed over two legs of a cup tie against League Two opposition last year and the manager seemed totally devoid of any ideas on how to break them down.

Signing Bent saved Houllier's job. I reckon the only thing that'll save Lambert is a recognisable signing too.

You mean a footballer?

Possibly not a 14 year old playing for FC Bicycle Clip in the Czech third division, either.
I heard that FC Bicycle Clip are a very strong team. Paul Lambert really likes them! careful what you wish for!

Well, the other thing is that Clunge FC from the Swiss second division are already in for him, and we can't compete with their wages.

I think Clunge will start flapping if we stick our noses in.
we don't want to get into a bidding war with Clunge!!

Nope but frankly we can't get much worse.

What hurts is the fucking know-it-all media wankers giving it large afterwards.
Bollocks.  What hurts is being outplayed by a crap League 1 side at home, going another season without a trophy, seeing shite football being played by shite players under a shite manager, and having an owner who will do absolutely fuck all about any of it.
Touché, sadly.

Can't wait for Lambert 'it took a really good goal to beat us today, I can't fault the player's effort, we're missing some big players, we were right in it to the end, blah blah blah'

I'm a bit sick of this.

I can take a cupset when you've played well and they have taken their chances, but we're getting outplayed by whoever we play recently. Tactics are all wrong, square pegs in round holes.

Not particularly no but I don't understand why you'd suffer a festering wound that will kill you because you are scared of the dodgy surgeons you have. Lambert will waste more money and most of his donkeys will need replacing anyway when a new guy takes over. I see no point keeping him, he is building nothing, their e is no plan or project, it is all just a cop out from explaining how bad we are on the pitch. Lambert will relegate us eventually.

Despite having a season ticket I shall not be returning to B6 until the ambition returns - Didnt go today as I have only just returned from Holland - so glad I missed it. This manager has been so lucky to dodge the flak after the results against Bradford, Wigan, Chelsea and more recently Palace.
I really wanted him to succeed but his signings have been poor and his team (and it is now HIS team) really are not up to it.
We would be pissing ourselves laughing if this was happening to Small Heath - we really are a rudderless ship.
