Available Saturday 28.12.13 @2pm (3pm KO).
New issue of H&V on sale.
-
Guzan, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Luna, Westwood, Bacuna, Weimann, Delph, Agbonlahor (c), Tonev
-
subs: Steer, Helenius, Bowery, Sylla, El Ahmadi, Kozak, Albrighton.
-
Weimann owes Lambert a fucking huge display. Lazy git needs to pull his damned finger out today.
-
Plenty of goals in that side, what is everybody worrying about.
-
Lambo's team selections are never predictable. Settled sides perform better. 442, presumably.
-
our left side is woeful. dyer and/or routledge could have a field day
no defenders on bench seems strange, herd must be injured again
would have much preferred albrighton on the left instead on tonev
-
Gabby as main forward might work well, but I'm stuck for a reason as to why Tonev deserves to start and Albrighton doesn't. However, given that the games are days apart, maybe fitness is the reason.
-
Please just win.
-
Weimann owes Lambert a fucking huge display. Lazy git needs to pull his damned finger out today.
Hopefully he's gone easy on the turkey over Crimbo. He can't afford to look any more Rooney-esque.
-
Albrighton unlucky and Weimann very lucky .
I expect them to target luna .
-
The Albrighton thing has to be fitness. 3 starts after months out in quick succession.
Tonev looked positive and actually dangerous for a few minutes the other night.
-
Weimann owes Lambert a fucking huge display. Lazy git needs to pull his damned finger out today.
Just Weimann?
-
I'd rather see Tonev right and Weimann left - Weimann looks better when cutting inside and Tonev is better with his weaker foot than Weimann, giving him more options on the right.
-
Guzan, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Luna, Westwood, Bacuna, Weimann, Delph, Agbonlahor (c), Tonev
This is right up there with some of the worst line ups I've ever seen. We'd put out line ups in the stiffs 5 years ago that were far better than this to be honest.
-
It does mean there is no way we can play the route 1 stuff today. Maybe Lambert has not actually advocated it and is frustrated with us doing it constantly.
-
Swansea,
Tremmell, Tiendalli, Williams, Chico, Davies, Canas, De Guzman,, Shelvey, Hernandez, Lamah, Bony
-
Subs, Zabret, Rangel, Amat, Britton, Pozuelo, , Routledge and Vazquez
-
I may be wrong but looks like 4312 to me. 3 new players to bring energy in midfield. Much will depend on how Delph and bacuna protect the full backs v Swansea wingers and whether baker is switched on v their movement
-

I wouldn't be counting on us not lumping it up to Gabby in vein hope if we're struggling to get beyond the half way line. I'd have personally kept Kozak in because he's the only one in anything close to goal-scoring form.
-
What a shit line up. Not that we've got many other options of course as we build towards being Borussia Dortmund in 2025
-
4-3-1-2?
Guzan
Lowton Clark Baker Moon
Bacuna Westwood Delph
Tonev
Weimann Gabby
-
Paul Kerr would get in this team. And he's been retired for years.
What a sad state of affairs this once great football club has become.
Rotten and festering from top to bottom.

What would your eleven have been today?
-
There's players on Swanseas bench (fucking Swansea!) who would absolutely walk into our first 11 with ease.
Our bench has Bowery on it still. Nuff said really.

I honestly couldn't tell you mate, but I didn't bring the squad to this point. We're just cobbling together a load of players who aren't really good enough.
Personally I'd have left out a lot of the dross cheap signings and played some of our promising yoof players, like Johnson, Robinson etc. I'd have had Grealish in by now. Being too young isn't an excuse we can use any more.
-
Here we go for another woeful game.

I'm sure people have been saying villa are rotten from top to bottom for the majority of the time I've been supporting villa.
-
Guzan, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Luna, Westwood, Bacuna, Weimann, Delph, Agbonlahor (c), Tonev
ok so Albrightons been our better player of late and hes dropped
weimann has been utter rubbish and keeps his place and Tonez starts ?
Luna is awful but I suppose who do you put in
Its about time Bacuna started in his right position and good to see Kea not in .
I dont think it was Kozak's fault on Thursday , more of the service he wasnt getting , might have a knock .
-
Anyone any idea where Gardner has disappeared again ?
-
subs: Steer, Helenius, Bowery, Sylla, El Ahmadi, Kozak, Albrighton.
not a lot of defensive cover
-
Anyone any idea where Gardner has disappeared again ?
Probably another injury - all very depressing and it's only 2-30 :(
-

Bowery can play anywhere
-
4-3-1-2?
Guzan
Lowton Clark Baker Moon
Bacuna Westwood Delph
Tonev
Weimann Gabby
That's what it looks like to me. I think it's a pretty decent call all things considered. We definitely need fresh legs in midfield and albrighton has been out for a while so not surprised to see him on the bench
Hopefully less hoof ball though I expect Swansea to have plenty of the ball today. Plenty

All I can see is negativity, things aren't good at the moment but theres very little that can be done before todays game. If I was feeling as bad as a lot of people appear to on this site I'd just avoid anything to do with Villa or football in general?!? I don't see the point in logging in to just add 'Here we go for another woeful game'........... Do something that makes you a little happier?
-
As i said earlier i ain't going today and i fear that i have had my entertainment for the day watching 'ammers v baggies.
I will watch via stream but i fear any entertainment will be produced by Swansea.
-

I'm only happy when it rains.

We are not unhappy by choice - it's very hard to get motivated or excited at the current situation - we are unhappy because we care and love the club.
-
Come on let's see what happens , we not kicked off yet!

Sometimes it's easier said than done sir. I'd like to. I did the other day (partly in the vein hope that sods law would dictate we'd suddenly turn into Barca in my absense).
Bit like a car crash though, you can't help but watch.

I'm giving for the Woodward option today rather than watching - it may be slightly less depressing.

Not have bought the majority of the players he's done.
30 page dossiers on Westwood my arse. You can sum him up in a couple of words.

So do I but since when has being negative been beneficial?
-
If we lose today I will perform a self circumcision and upload the video to Youtube.
I'm that confident.
3-1 Villa.
-
Why isn't Bowery starting ?

It's the English gentleman's McGrath given right to be pessimistic. It's what this country was built on. Fish, chips, tea and pessimism.
:)
The more miserable and negative I get before a game, the more chance the side has of either matching my expectations (ie being really shit) or exceeding them. That's my logic and I stick to it. During this feck awful run anyway.

Only a sadist is gonna be on this thread come 3pm. I'm having an Xmas buffet

Exactly, not that you're paid god knows how much a year to do anything. That's the job of our so-called manager, not that you'd know it
-
Why isn't Bowery starting ?
His head is being turned by a big money return to Chesterfield apparently. ;)
-
Fuckn he'll this thread like walking into a morrissey web page!
-
3-1 Ormsby, Walker, Kerr. Curtis for them
-
Not sure what it is but I feel a much better display and win coming today. That and 2-3 players in January, Benteke and Vlaar also coming back. A good second half of the season ahead.
Please don't let me down Villa or I'll be accused of being a blind optimist and happy clapper.
-
Fuckn he'll this thread like walking into a morrissey web page!
Just about to start his autobiography as it happens....
-
Only a sadist is gonna be on this thread come 3pm. I'm having an Xmas buffet
I'd love that option. But I was away crimbo, haven't done any shopping since getting back yet and all that's in the house is chocolate. If I eat any more chocolate I'm gonna be typing something very unpleasant in the log advice thread.
God I could murder a sarnie.
-
swansea was the hardest game out of the two , thats why we will probably win this 2-0 after losing to palace
wont we ;)
-
do i start booing now or later, only joking, come on you lions show us some passion today.
-
Talking of ormsby I heard tony Morley saying he'd had a stroke just before Xmas - best wishes on a speedy recovery to him.
-
Fuckn he'll this thread like walking into a morrissey web page!
Just about to start his autobiography as it happens....
Morrisseys far chirpier than a lot of us at the moment to be fair. lol.
Anyway at 5pm I predict panic on the streets of Birmingham.
Eh thank you.
-
16 of Swansea's 20 points have come against bottom 10 sides
-
Guzan, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Luna, Westwood, Bacuna, Weimann, Delph, Agbonlahor (c), Tonev

I'm sure people have been saying villa are rotten from top to bottom for the majority of the time I've been supporting villa.
Exactly. Been over 40 years now and with the exception of 1977-1982, I have found most fans way too fickle. "Worst line ups ever seen" ..... oh boy, not even close to some of the dross put up by the woeful litany of managers appointed by DE
-
swansea lost 8 of 9 visits to VP
please get this good record Villa
-
I would love it, love it if we beat them.
Glad we don't have to see Dyer against us.
Tonev to score a screamer. He's got to get one eventually hasn't he?
-
Swansea 7 changes and seems most of their 1st choice players are back .
-
Guzan, Lowton, Clark, Baker, Luna, Westwood, Bacuna, Weimann, Delph, Agbonlahor (c), Tonev

It's very close indeed I'm afraid
-
I used to be a very negative person but without positive thought this year I would've probably gone mad or worse.... I love Villa and football but despite what Bill Shankly said there are far more important things going on in the world. Let's just see what happens eh?
-
subs: Steer, Helenius, Bowery, Sylla, El Ahmadi, Kozak, Albrighton.
not a lot of defensive cover
That's not "not a lot of defensive cover" that's no defensive cover.
Where's Herd?
-
Fuckn he'll this thread like walking into a morrissey web page!

It's a great read.

Indeed. Perspective though is in short supply with the football fan of today.
-
The lack of depth in our squad compared to just about everyone else is astounding.
-
Time to fight.
-
Last chance saloon
-
Attacking the holte 1st half - lets go!!!!
-
Hoof.
-
What a useless looking lineup.
Our two better performers benched, Weimann and Tonev still somehow starting.
-
Long 90 ahead
-
What a useless looking lineup.
Our two better performers benched, Weimann and Tonev still somehow starting.
Well that was one of the first line ups I saw:
Nigel Spink
David Norton
Paul Elliott
Dean Glover
Allan Evans
Paul Birch
Darren Bradley
Steve Hodge
Andy Gray
Simon Stainrod
Mark Walters
:(
-
Genuine 4-4-1-1, Weimann behind Gabby and Bacuna wide right. Not sure how I feel about this, but not a bad start so far, with a couple of good passes from Westwood.
-
Is it 3-5-2 or 4-4-2?
-
4 4 2 in my eyes
-
Come on villa get the first goal
-
Was worried Delph was struggling there, looked to twist his knee.
-
luna defensely is awful
-
I have a feeling Tonev will score today.
-
Look at Weimann's positioning especially out of possession, definitely between midfield and Gabby up at the top.
-
Guzan. Our most creative player.
-
Get in....
-
Gabby - hallelujah!!!!!
-
yessssss
-
YES!
-
See. Weimann behind Gabby. 4-4-1-1. Seems to work.
-
Get in ya bastards, come on Villa boys ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Better.
-
Good start, even Pat Murphy sounds pleased on R5, though that's probably more because the Tesco Bags got a late equaliser...
-
phew, good goal, lovely run from Gabby and well found by Weimann.
-
First half goaaaaaaaaalllllll
-
Now why can't we do those simple things every game.....eh!??
-
GABBY!
-

;)
-
That was a very pointed celebration. No acknowledgement to the fans, just went to the bench.
-
Who did all the players run to to celebrate?
I thought it wa gonna be PL but they ran straight past him haha
-
Gabby. Proper Villa player.
Build on it Villa.
-
Come on villa get the first goal
Thank you me babbys. Nice link up between Weimann and Gabby.
-
Who did all the players run to to celebrate?
I thought it wa gonna be PL but they ran straight past him haha
Thought the same ;D.
-
you knew he wasnt missing that ;)
-
Who did all the players run to to celebrate?
I thought it wa gonna be PL but they ran straight past him haha
Thought the same ;D.
The bloke who got in a argument with Culverhouse!
-
Weimann played the ball beautifully. 2 men up top is much more threatening, but we are well overun through the centre of midfield.
-

You reckon? That would be brilliant!
-
Weimann played the ball beautifully. 2 men up top is much more threatening, but we are well overun through the centre of midfield.
It's not two 'up top', though. Weimann's playing plum between midfield and Gabby. If it weren't Weimann in that position and was, say, Tonev nobody would be thinking it was 4-4-2 with Tonev up front. This is 4-4-1-1 like Moyes always used to play at Everton.
-
Acres of room on the right there, wrong pass.
-
Looks like our full backs are finally getting some protection.
-
That was a very pointed celebration. No acknowledgement to the fans, just went to the bench.
Quite right too.
-
Well, as opening ten minutes or so go, we've had worse this season, eh?!
Westwood and Delph are going to have to really work hard to get a grip on the midfield, could us Bacuna tucking in a little more to help out I think.
-
Looks like our full backs are finally getting some protection.
Nice to see isn't it. The middle of the pitch is wide open though!
-
Bacuna and Lowton down the right could end up being a great combination. They can cover each other as one of them goes forward.
We're pressing as well. I don't know why we stopped pressing teams? It worked against Arsenal. Plus they're young player and should be able to keep it up all game.
-
Would love know who the players were going to.
-
This is the most 'hussle' I've seen from the team for ages, too. I think he's picked the right midfield for that, to be fair; Delph, Westwood and Bacuna all put a decent shift in when they play.
-
Fuck that was close!
-
Brad had it covered.
-
hows he miss that lol
-
Crikey! Lucky escape there!
-
Played Tonev. Good covering.
Under the cosh a bit now.
-
All Swansea atm..
-
Lots of pressure from Swansea - they look loads better with the ball and without.
The way they close us down when we have the ball is precisely what we should be doing to them.
-
Yep all them. We can't get the ball.
-
Yep. It's a conundrum, really. This formation and team looks better going forward, but it leaves us pretty open in the middle. Against a team that pass as well as Swansea can, it's risky.
-
well done bacuna
-
Guzan giving them the ball not helpful.
I have lost vision now!
-
Oh, bollocks. My stream just cut out. :-(
-
Ah, it's back!
-
Don't know who the commentator is on my stream, but one of them is giving it loads about how the fans were giving Lambert stick at the end against Palace, then expressing surprise that the fans keep turning up in numbers even if we're shit.
We might not be a great team at the moment, but we're not Birmingham City.
-
westwood ;( lots of possession for swansea no final ball thou
-
3pts on the board from Westwood.
-
Back in time for a woeful attempt from Westwood. Players still not getting into space and moving to give people on the ball an option!
-
feels like the 85th minute
-
Swansea are looking the more likely now. Villa need another 2 to win this, as we're creating very little.
-
The main question this game poses is, if Niall Quinn were commentating on it, would the Guzan-de Guzman paradox cause his head to implode?
-
lowton come on tackle
-
WTF was lowton doing there?!
-
Bacuna looks shattered
-
Blimey, Lowton! You've got to do better than that! Another bit of a let off, there.
-
I get the feeling we will need at least another goal.
-
fuck that was close
crap defending by Luna
-
Fuck thought that was 1-1
We are being battered and winning 1-0
Poor display after a decent opening 10. Again.
-
Tony Morley somewhat concerned that Swansea are starting to dominate 1-1
-
Bloody Hell! That was close! They're starting to give us a bit of a run around here, need to get back to snapping at them as soon as they get the ball.
-
Our first touch to get a loose ball under control is awful.
-
1-1
Nothing more than they deserved
-
Been coming for half an hour.
-
Fucking hell. We need to get a grip on this somewhere. We've stopped pressing high up and give them too much space.
-
Ah, crap.
-
it was coming so crap
-
Inevitable. Playing like a bunch of pussies.
-
Ah fuck it.
Can't say they haven't deserved it though, they've been all over us for the last fifteen minutes.
-
I don't care what anyone says but we easily have the 2 worst full backs in the league....easily!
-
Lowton cannot defend according to tony Morley and as a winger I think he would know .
-
fuck sake.
-
Commentators are filling their pants a bit too much though, mind.
-
We simply have to hold onto the ball, bloody hell
-
When we were doing well early in the match, Weimann was dropping very deep and giving midfielders another option. The defence retreating has led to the midfield doing the same but Weimann has stayed roughly where he was, so we've been getting completely overrun in the middle since then.
-
Didn't deserve to be in front. Where the hell was Luna?!
-
Oh shit...... Deserved equaliser 1-1
-
Been coming. Lamberts naivity again shown. We never looked like doing anything to hold onto the lead or extend it. They're dictating everything. They're like obnoxious house guests.
-
Well deserved equaliser. Both full backs having nightmares.
When we try and play a bit we look ok. Gabby finished our goal well after great play from Weimann. Bacuna has played very well so far but Swansea are playing football we can only dream of
-
How's it going? I can't get to se it or listen to it.
-
This is the conundrum I mentioned earlier. This formation is great of we're good enough to keep attacking, press them back, but if we're the team chasing the ball (as we frequently are) then it offers very little protection in the middle of the pitch.
Still, we've shown we can get at them so let's see what happens.
-
Still them.
Having none of the ball at all.
Fucking awful.
-
We have been letting them have all the play, there was no pressure at all, they have so much time on the ball
-
they could score at ease here
-
Our formation:
Guzan
Bacuna Westwood Lowton Clark Baker Luna Delph Tonev
Weimann Gabby
-
I actually feel nothing, just numb.
-
They're enjoying playing us.
-
They deserve it, they're making us look like a school boys team. Can't see us scoring again.
Where are all the strikers Lambert bought, absolute crap.
-
Anyone else wish real ill on opposition fans celebrating like monkeys on the pitch at VP?
-
They are so easy on the eye to watch Swansea. Lovely football to watch.
-
We have been letting them have all the play, there was no pressure at all, they have so much time on the ball
Problem is its very tiring chasing the ball and we will tire as the game goes on .
-
We have been awful since we scored. Back to i don't know what i'm doing mode.
-
How many times are they going to be able to take a short corner with us having just one defender there.
-
STOP BLOODY HOOFING IT!
-
They are so easy on the eye to watch Swansea. Lovely football to watch.
Anyone got a rough idea how much this Swansea side cost to put together ?
-
Every team comes to Villa Park knowing they're going to win these days
-
I hope everyone watching this who ever advocates 4-4-2 is now seeing the futility of playing like that. It's not bad if you want to be defensive, dig in, frustrate and counter, but if you want to have a lot of the ball and go toe-to-toe with an opponent, especially one like Swansea, you just can't fucking play it.
-
they look like a solid prem team at mo
we look like a 15th place championship team
good ole doug
-
It would help if they passed to each other a few times though Montbert.
I bet we have touched the ball about 5 times since they scored!
-
Luna is always so far away from his man, why not just close down space right away
-

It's not the formation, it's the style. We need to push up and press them. Any formation is shit if you have everyone in your own third except for your strikers.
-
Deadly's looking well bless him. He's probably wishing he had his finger on the trigger still.
-
why are people going on that its a young villa side
they are not 18 or 19
they just aint got much quality
least we scored in first half
-
PUT A TACKLE IN, YOU USELESS SONS OF BITCHES!!!
-
They are in complete control.
-
Its always a long fookin ball with us

It's not bad if you want to be defensive, dig in, frustrate and counter, but if you want to have a lot of the ball and go toe-to-toe with an opponent, especially one like Swansea, you just can't fucking play it.
It's not the formation, it's the style. We need to push up and press them. Any formation is shit if you have everyone in your own third except for your strikers.
It's all of that and a lack of quality players...
-
its gone quick
probably cause im enjoying swanseas football
-
We have to find a way of keeping the ball for more that 5 seconds. Westwood just got it, and there was literally not 1 pass on. No one showing, so he tried to hit space beyond the full back.
So poor.
-
The way they play football compared to us is a fucking embarrassment to be blunt. But for a top striker and some more cutting edge, Swansea are a top side.
We look miles off at the moment.
Too poor. And again, we have no ideas so keep going long. We are a hoofball team, as much as Lambert wants to deny it.
-
Just seen shots of the two managers, Laudrop all animated urging his players on, Lambert sitting on the bench looking glum and clueless. Sums up the two sides.
-

Come on, that's willful blindness. The formation is a huge contributor to the crapness of the style: not having options on the ball, everyone being miles from everyone else, being too far away from anyone else to be anything other than stodgy and stuck in 'your position' and never interchange, being constantly outnumbered in the middle of the pitch and nobody knowing whether to commit or run backwards all of this virtually guarantees less possession and being overrun, especially by a side like Swansea.
-
Deadly's looking well bless him. He's probably wishing he had his finger on the trigger still.
think it would be a AK47
-
This is how i expected us to play so i'm really not shocked.
-
Thank fuck that shit is over.
-
Half time.
Win this and we will be the luckiest side in the league.
Fucking awful.
-
So we score a goal and rather than give us confidence we regress into our shell. There is literally no hope for us .
-

It seems that you've summed up how weplay no matter what the formation.
-
It's all about the result but we really are playing like a dog's arse. Hopefully we can just nick something on the break, that seems to be the plan anyway.
-
Poor.
-
Oh well...at least we have put the 'no goals in the first half' stat to bed.
-
Half time Paddy Power managerial change?
Bielsa in!
-
Half time.
Win this and we will be the luckiest side in the league.
Fucking awful.
thats why we will
has a soton result about it ;)
-
shit, useless fucking hoofball. no confidence, no desire to play football. don't let our one move that culminated in a goal cloud over how bad we are.
-
Swansea practice how to move off the ball and into space and play with a nominal formation which allows them to be more fluid. The problem with our formation is that it's too much of a Formation, with players stuck in their positions which, combined with our obvious lack of practicing these moving-off-the-ball novelties, means we're being utterly dominated.
-
PWS must be fuming; we've not scored a first half goal all season which means he hasn't seen us score down his end yet. Finally we get one and Swansea have elected to attack the North Stand first, lol.
-
there isn't one decent football player in that team. we never replaced petrov and we're really paying for it now. worst midfield in the league
-
Second half is where a good manager can turn things around and make the necessary tactical changes, so don't fret.......
Good energetic first 15 minutes though.
-
Half time.
Win this and we will be the luckiest side in the league.
Fucking awful.
First City, then Southampton. We couldn't do it again could we?
Could we?
-
27% possession at home.
Swansea look like visitors from the Planet Football.
Embarrassingly shit.

We not playing 4-4-2 though we're playing 8-2. Which led to 36 minutes of total domination from them.
-
25% possession at home
Disgraceful. If we get a draw here we can consider ourselves lucky ,only one team in this despite the score
-
24% possession first half
-

You're not wrong, but you could be righter. Sometimes we play better than other times with the 4-3-3 - but the 4-4-2 will always result in this.
-
Where was Tony Moon when Lamah got behind him!!!!
Awful
-
Is Luna paying the Villa to play, because if he is not and Lambert does not go and buy a left back in January the man is a disgrace. If you have a child who wants to play as a full back, video Luna and make sure he or she see's how it should not be done.
-
24% possession first half
Disgraceful

I wish - nursey has tweeted that he thinks Bielsa is maybe Cardiff bound.
-
27% possession at home.
Swansea look like visitors from the Planet Football.
Embarrassingly shit.
I agree with this. Swansea look like they're in a different league - a much better one! Just watch the movement of their players off the ball!
-
Possession 23% - 73%
-
£2.6 million for Tonev ffs makes Routledge look like Ronaldo
-
27% possession and 3 shots, at home versus the mighty Swansea City.
-
27% possession at home.
Swansea look like visitors from the Planet Football.
Embarrassingly shit.
I agree with this. Swansea look like they're in a different league - a much better one! Just watch the movement of their players off the ball!
They definitely look better than us, but I think they're shaky when we have a go at their defence as well.
-
But if we had more posession than that, we would only give them the ball back straight away
-

What formation do you advocate with the players at our disposal?
Personally I don't see anything wrong with 4-4-2(1-1) as long as the players know where they are playing and what they are supposed to do, and perhaps more importantly are good enough to do the job they are supposed to do?
-
Our midfield looks so not there. How can so many players disappear from a game.
-
We are really fucked. Fail to score we shit ourselves, score a goal we shit ourselves. What a motivator Lambert must be.
-
We're at home and the stats show us 27% possession, 3 shots, Swansea 10 shots. It's looking like another lost home game as we don't look like creating anything likely to trouble their defence.
Lambert just looks totally unable to produce a side who can keep the ball and create chances on a consistent basis.
-
You need the ball to have a go.
23% is a disgrace at home.
-

this.
-
They are so easy on the eye to watch Swansea. Lovely football to watch.
Anyone got a rough idea how much this Swansea side cost to put together ?
About £28m quid.
-
It's been absolutely gash since we went 1 up.
They've decided to keep calm heads and play football, and we've decided to run around like headless chickens chasing shadows and lumping aimless balls the very few times we do get the ball
Fucking horrid. A friend just said it's like Barcelona playing Bilston Town in terms of the quality with the ball
I'm predicting a loss by 2 clear goals unless Lambert can do his job and get them focused
-
Gabby is trying hard but we have no system no style and look like a plucky 3rd division side playing against one of the top four.
-

Well, there's the rub, really. It works as an attacking formation if you;re good enough to be the stronger team, keep the ball and pin the opposition back - although it puts you at risk of counter-attack. If you're the team, as we are, who don't keep the ball, then it leaves you in all sorts of trouble.
-
Swansea players = skilful, Intelligent. Villa players = Why are there so many people here gaffer.
-
What's so odd is how we actually looked up for it for 5 minutes or so. It suggests these players CAN do it if they want to.
I don't know what's wrong, whether it's confidence, malaise, revolt against the management or whatever.
It's plain to me they aren't giving 100 per cent.
I can't accept 10 professional footballers are constantly out of position collectively and not know what they're doing..... They stand by a member of the opposition when we've got they ball, and then get as far away from one when we're defending.
I can't accept Lambert doesn't see it, I can't accept he is not trying to correct it.
I can only assume this lot don't want to play for him and his demeanor today suggests he knows it and is prepared to accept his fate.
-
I thought Lambert's celebration of our goal wasn't very convincing, like he knew what was to come.
-
Lack of funds issue not a worthy argument against Swansea and especially Palace. It's poor purchases and poor tactics
-
27% possession and 3 shots, at home versus the mighty Swansea City.
they look a different class as well . Chairmen can get decent managers .
-
Was there any booing at half time ?
-
Think the tactical change Lambert made for the last ten minutes, moving Bacuna into the centre and Weimann wide right has improved us a bit.
Delph and Westwood couldn't get near Swansea but the extra body has helped. I'd move Delph to left back for the second half and bring Sylla or Kea in.
Weimann has been much improved in fairness today as has Bacuna.
-
It's so so embarrassing. Lambert has not got a clue. Shame were stuck with this shit it seems for the long haul. We continue at this pace and we are championship bound.
23% possession at fucking home - sickening
-
Was there any booing at half time ?
I heard a few groans.
-
Same shit, different day.
We really are dreadful.
-
27% possession and 3 shots, at home versus the mighty Swansea City.

Hasn't it taken Swansea about 2000 years to get this far though?

Yes was some booing
-
If we lose today I will perform a self circumcision and upload the video to Youtube.
I'm that confident.
3-1 Villa.
You lot are going to look very silly when we win 3-1.
-
Just seen shots of the two managers, Laudrop all animated urging his players on, Lambert sitting on the bench looking glum and clueless. Sums up the two sides.
This
-
I'd get Albrighton on for the second half. It should improve things although not greatly.
-
I noticed when we scored the players ran straight past the manager to the bench, don't think everythings rosie there.
-
I fear the invitable coming up for the second half.
Having to chase the shadows of the Swansea players will eventually take its toll.
I hope I'm wrong, but...
-
Here we go more torture.
-
If we lose today I will perform a self circumcision and upload the video to Youtube.
I'm that confident.
3-1 Villa.

I think we all have a video to watch through our fingers later mate.
-
I noticed when we scored the players ran straight past the manager to the bench, don't think everythings rosie there.
Been several posts hinting at issues between players and managers almost suggesting the players are deliberately being shit.
if that is the case, on such large wages, they can fuck off whoever they are. Should be playing for the team of Aston Villa not some personal vendetta
-
The problem isn't that they don't think they can attack, the problem is that they have no patience and try to attack right at the goal every time they get the ball - a position compounded by 4-4-2 because 4-4-2 is a counter-attacking formation, not a front-foot formation.
-
There you go - Swansea have 10pts from the last 10 games.
Laudrup must be a genius.
-
thank mcgrath Michu is not playing
-
Hooooooooof. Worse than stoke
-
They are so easy on the eye to watch Swansea. Lovely football to watch.
Anyone got a rough idea how much this Swansea side cost to put together ?
About £28m quid.
So their side cost less than ours - that's what a good management structure does for you.
-
4-5-1 now with Weimann right
-
4-5-1 now with Weimann right
Which might give us more of a chance. Still, they don't practice pass-and-move in training really so we'll still probably be hoofily rubbish.
-
their chairman has employed Martinez , Rodgers and Laudrup
we have had Houlier , TSM and Lambert
and we are suppose to be AVFC
-
I noticed when we scored the players ran straight past the manager to the bench, don't think everythings rosie there.
Would be interesting if someone near the scene could tell us they ran to on the post match thread.
-
Our throw-ins are cack, always cack.
-
Hope we're not going to start fouling
-
Bad challenge from Westwood there.
F/K Swansea.

Not true, it completely depends on the type of players you have playing and how you instruct them.
England played 4-4-2 in the Euros a couple of summers ago and were painfully neutral/defensive.
-

-
Easy for Guzan.

The first two were unknowns and Laudrup was a great player but little pedigree as a manager.

Of course not. Would you go and watch this when you could be skiing in Vermont?
-
Mixed feelings about this half. If we sneak a win here somehow is it just papering over the cracks? Sounds crazy but are we better off getting battered and forcing Lerner to make a change?
The change could be replacing Lambert or freeing up funds and wages.

Yes. That's what I'm saying - it's a defend and counter formation at best, and if you try to use it to play proper football on the front foot then it will fail.
-
I was once a massive fan of Lerner but I have to say I'm rapidly losing patience with him. Is it enough for Villa to merely exist or should we be trying to compete?
-
Rangell on for them.
Didn't he score against us before?
-

Don't sound like we have a few cracks sounds like its a gaping hole..
-
Palace giving it a right good go at City
-
When was the last time Tonev touched the ball?
-
It is very disappointing to see us punting the ball forward continually.
We just cannot keep hold of the ball at all.
-
Palace are doing well at Man City. Never thought I'd be jealous of the way Tony Pulis can organise a ragtag bunch of players.
-
Fuck was that from Luna!?
-
did you see Lunas clearance
-

Again no. England weren't counter attacking.
Man United have won championships with a 4-4-2 and didn't counter attack.
-

Not just randy to blame !
Who then? Randy allowed MoN to spunk millions...
-
This is desperate
-
still think we could nick it
-
Luna looks non league. If we don't have a youth team player better than him then we might aswell fold them and please stop bringing 11 fucking players back to defend a corner you twat.
-
Only one person to blame and that us Randy, is he there today ?
He's gone in today to empty the takings from the one-armed bandit in the Holte Hotel.
-
good throw in ffs
-
get tonev off please
-
Their last corner again showed why it is not good to have all eleven players back, why not leave Gabby on the half way line ???
-
We desperately need Jordan Bowery.
-
Our average time spent in possession must be about 2 seconds. It's shocking.
-
First attack since the 15th min or something, Weimann hoofs it for a goal kick.
-
Votes on Albrighton or Kozak to come on first?
-
I was once a massive fan of Lerner but I have to say I'm rapidly losing patience with him. Is it enough for Villa to merely exist or should we be trying to compete?
Since one month I have reached the same conclusion.
I think it doesn't help that there isn't any decent communication from the club other than the awful official site. It creates a feeling of detachment. But yeah sorry to hear you feel the same Archie. Hopefully we can see Villa restored one day
-
If we need BOWERY then we are desperate
-
this is dire
-
I'm getting jealous of Swansea.
-
Again no. England weren't counter attacking.
Man United have won championships with a 4-4-2 and didn't counter attack.
Firstly, counter-attacking is inherent in being actively defensive. It's the other side of the coin and the reason it exists. England weren't counter-attacking because they didn't mean to be defensive, but because this formation, executed rigidly, cannot compete on the front foot in modern football.
Secondly, United last played real 4-4-2 in the year 2000 and Ferguson brought in Queiroz to stop it (in fact, Ferguson claims to have never actually played 4-4-2, but to have ini fact invented 4-2-3-1). Also, of course they counter-attacked, they were famous for it, but not in 4-4-2 and not for whole games.
-
If Swansea don't win this they should be ashamed of themselves. We're fucking atrocious.
-
Utterly awful
-
Kozak for Tonev.
-
I still don't really see the point of Tonev, not surprised he's been subbed
-
we have wasted money on tonev . he hasnt got it

Who then? Randy allowed MoN to spunk millions...
Randy , mon, houllier, faulkner , Mcleish, lambert and the players - all are culpable for blame albeit some more than others.
-
Kozak = even more hoofing.
-
They have 7 had corners to our 1. Blood and sand!
-
Kozak on? Three up front?
No Paul, you've tried that one and it doesn't work.
-
I'm all for bringing Kozak on but where's the width going to come from?
-
I'm getting jealous of Swansea.
Im getting jealous of every other team in the league
-
we have wasted money on tonev . he hasnt got it
You can add another few names as well.
-
Crowd are behind the team. Come on, lads.
-
Tonev is easily the most disappointing of all our signings.
Kozak first touch, gets ball, looks up and 3 Swansea men on him in flash of an eye
-
Come on villa give them a game
-
Guzan hoof to Kozak
Clarke hoof to Kozak
Luna miscued hoof
Dire to watch.
-
Only one person to blame and that us Randy, is he there today ?
He's gone in today to empty the takings from the one-armed bandit in the Holte Hotel.
How much can it hold? That way, we'll know the budget for our next signing of a Luna standard player.
-
Villa fans more than doing their job.
-
Fuck me, we're closing down all of a sudden.
-
Hull beating Fulham 3-0
-
I would take Steve Bruce at this rate
-
Hoof
Hoof
Hoof
-
fuck close again
-
The back 5 are the worst bunch of hoofers in this division we are stinking out.
Fair play to the bloody fans, giving it a go watching this.
-
This is the worst performance in terms of keeping possession that I've ever seen. Honestly.
-
I still don't really see the point of Tonev, not surprised he's been subbed
makes Holman look like Mata

It's Westwood doing that and it's fucking me right off. There are options for him, we've changed formation.
-
4-0 Hull now
-
VP is rocking to be fair.
-
The fans deserve so much better than this - its a tragedy to see a villa team so poor.

We've changed formation and he does have more options, but it's still the case that nobody's moving.
-
Huddlestone's barber finally gets paid. At least Fulham are worse than Villa. Except when they beat us easily.
-
I would take Steve Bruce at this rate
You fkn bet. It's 4-0 now.
-
fans are doing their bit
nice to see the players do it
-
Come on villa give them a game
Villa couldn't give Bloxwich Strollers a game these days
-
I would take Steve Bruce at this rate
You fkn bet. It's 4-0 now.
here we go...and Paul Jewell, and Phil Brown and Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis and Ian Holloway and Roy Keane...
-
KEA is coming on
-
Huddlestone would have been brilliant for us.
Fucking KEA on for Bacuna.
-
KEA time.

True enough.
KEA for Bacuna.
-
We are sorted now. Here comes KEA.
Christ.
-
If I thought it guaranteed the end of our most impotent, hapless manager in living memory I'd be urging Swansea on right now.
-
Tactic is hit Kozak first time with every ball, no matter where you are.
-
KEA time.
Another 10 mins before Bowery.
-
I would take Steve Bruce at this rate
You fkn bet. It's 4-0 now.
I always thought that the idea of getting Lambert was that he was going to instil a passing, pressing style to our game. It isn't working out like that, but there's no need to go back to the stone age.
We're already there.
-
Fucking hell. Absolutely no width now.
Commentator. "KEA comes on... another industrious midfielder."
Which in laymans terms means he's shit.
-
At least this year's Wigans are behind.
-
Fucked up but I think Id rather lose this than draw. Something needs to change and a fifth loss in a row may hasten that change.
Mind you its still set up for us to nick this.
-
I am fucking envious of Palace and Hull at the moment!
-
I fear we are going to be caught on the break with a late goal again.
-

Hull look like Brazil circa 1970 compared to us though to be fair.
Not that I'm advocating getting Bruce.
-
Blimey, Weimann - try at least.
-
It's a level of hoof-ball that would make Tony Pulis cringe, to be honest.
-
I am fucking envious of Palace and Hull at the moment!
Palace have the Scottish Messi so I hear.
-

Last time I said that, Gayle scored. So I'm saying nothing.
-
thank fook zidane shelvey is shit
-
Christ I'm glad Shelvey didn't go off.
They'd murder us with eleven men.
-
Our ability to keep possession is so bad I want to cry.
-
5-0 Hull
-
Shelvey's one of those players who looks half decent one second, but total bobbins the next.
-
KEA so fucking weak. What a shit footballer.
-
El Ahamadi is a fucking pussy, £2.5m quids worth of sand dumped on the pitch would make more of a contribution.
-
If we had a 'facepalm' smiley here I would be using every time El Ahmadi gets the fucking ball.
-
KEA got shovelled off the ball way too easily there. Resulted in a very nearly lethal counter attack from Swansea.
-
I would take Steve Bruce at this rate
You fkn bet. It's 4-0 now.

Bruce is a decent manager, always has been unfortunately.
-
Why are they being allowed time and space to put crosses in. Break your necks to close them down and block it you fairy bastards, show some fucking nous and desire.
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
-
We are such a desperately poor football side.
-
Why is it always agony?
-
5-0 Hull
Great for our goal difference anyway....
-
I spoke to Nigel Spink the other day ,he couldnt say enough good about Bruce. Top top man he said . Hates the modern footballer .
-
Whos the bloke saying Brad Guzman....sounds like G Neville but it isnt
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
Bruce is a better manager than Lambert.
-
Marc for Andi applauded by crowd.
-
Albrighton on
-
I honestly don't know what the problem is.
Are we not doing what Lambert tells them to do, or is this how he wants us to be? Either way, it's not brilliant.
-
Come on, Marc! On for Weimann, finally.
-
Surely we're due a win. Please.
-
Jesus Christ! No Bowery?!
Lambert doesn't know what he's doing!
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
Bruce is a better manager than Lambert.
Stop trolling.
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
He is a decent manager.
-
Their final ball has been coming from Shelvey a lot today. Thank Christ his final delivery is so erratic.
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
Bruce is a better manager than Lambert.
Steve or Forsyth?
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
Bruce is a better manager than Lambert.

Sorry Paul. Get Marc on by the way.
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
Bruce is a better manager than Lambert.
By a distance.
-
Hoof!
-
This shit is weak.
-
Back, back, back, Guzan.... HHHHHOOOOFFFF!!!!
Kozak has won 4 flick ons in the last 10, but no one is running on.
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
He is a decent manager.
Yes, but if he's the answer to our problems then I'd like to know what the question is.
-

Erratic? I'd say shite is more descriptive.
-
No one is suggesting get him!
-

Bruce is a better manager than Lambert.

Sorry Paul. Get Marc on by the way.
He's on already, Steve.
-
God Almighty. What the Hell has happened to this team? Remember singing 'we're passing the ball!'? Seems like a dream now.
-
Imagine the reaction if swnsea get a late one
hold on Villa
-
No one is suggesting get him!
I think some see him as a gettable alternative judging by some comments!
-
Swansea have brought on a striker who has not been able to score for shit.
We know what happens next folks.
-
Amazing support.
-
We're so unbelievably crap it actually hurts.
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
He is a decent manager.
Yes, but if he's the answer to our problems then I'd like to know what the question is.
Bruce isn't the answer to any of our questions but tell me what Lambert brings to this club other than being a good old yes man for Sir Randy.
-
"And the Swansea sub hasn't scored for 25 years" says the commentator as he comes on.
I wonder what will happen next.
-
If I'd wanted to watch shite long ball football week in, week out, I'd have decided to support Stoke. Fucking sort it out, Lambert.
-
This isn't a game, it's an ordeal
-
Hull 6-0
-
6-0 Hull
-
26% possession
-
Time for a late winner villa!
-
"And the Swansea sub hasn't scored for 25 years" says the commentator as he comes on.
I wonder what will happen next.
Nailed on.
-
26% possession. Nothing short of a fucking disgrace.
-
Id struggle to pick a Villa MOM
probably gabby for the goal
-
We're so unbelievably crap it actually hurts.
Something has to change. We're a nothing team. Is it the manager, is it the level of investment, is it the manager's signings? We looked ok from about Feb/March onwards last season; like a corner had been turned.
What is different? Are we just having another slump over Christmas?
-
clark out ffs for sunderland
-
We're so unbelievably crap it actually hurts.
Apart from everything else, Lambert should be watching the way Swansea play compared to our pathetic, shapeless lumping it up field and feel embarassed.
-
It's okay folks, we've gone up to 26% possession.
-
No one is suggesting get him!
I think some see him as a gettable alternative judging by some comments!
Shouldn't we be signing Lambert up to a new long term contract in case we lose him?
-
Get well QUICK Vlaar
-
Hull started the day on the same GD as us. Now, they are one away from break even.
-
KEA! Give it away again in their half. Fuckign bollocks. Shitty fucking footballer should never be in our fucking squad, due to being so fucking shit. Fucking shit bollocks.
-
FFS KEA again
-
We're so unbelievably crap it actually hurts.

Teams worked out how to combat us - and lambert has no no plan B
-
Games gone dead. Looks like we'll get a flattering point.
-
Fuck me, Steve Bruce?
Come on, peeps.
He is a decent manager.
Yes, but if he's the answer to our problems then I'd like to know what the question is.
Bruce isn't the answer to any of our questions but tell me what Lambert brings to this club other than being a good old yes man for Sir Randy.
Why bring him up?
Why do I have to answer anything? Why don't you tell me how Bruce is better than Lambert?
-
Hull 6-0 ,shit that is almost as many as we have scored all season !
-
Our passing is truly remarkable.
-
We've stifled them in this second half. If we could just put a decent pass to get a striker in.
-
Karim El Donkey, how many times does his passes put us or a player into trouble. The guy is dumb.
-
We're so unbelievably crap it actually hurts.
Apart from everything else, Lambert should be watching the way Swansea play compared to our pathetic, shapeless lumping it up field and feel embarassed.
Great endeavour and effort though .........
-
Worse than our Palace performance this. Don't let the scoreline fool you.
-
stephen Ireland as refereed well
-
Games gone dead. Looks like we'll get a flattering point.
Would be the least useful result...
-
Get well QUICK Vlaar
If not QUICKER!!
-
We're so unbelievably crap it actually hurts.

Great endeavour and effort though .........
Oh, you can't fault the lads' effort...
-
its as if they spend all week having 'twat it ' competitions at bodymoor
-
clark out ffs for sunderland
No doubt Lambert has that new CB lined up to join on the first day of the window and go straight in to the team. In our dreams.
-
KEA fucking twat.
-
was that the first shot since the goal
-
Clark suspended now.
-
I feel sorry for Kozak, he's got no chance if we can't get the ball to him
-
Was that a.... a shot?
-
No Clark at Sunderland then.
KEA again needless fuckign free kick.
Too shit.
-
4 minutes to win it
-
Four more minutes of torture.
-
luna baker lowton bacuna
back four at sunderland
-
I generally think with have forwards who could score goals, goals, goals....its the shocking service that's the big problem.
-
Is Culverhouse even on the bench?
-
was that the first shot since the goal
Weimann had one, I think.
-
Morley saying he'd give man of match to charity if he was gabby as he'd be too emabarrassed to take it.
-
luna baker lowton bacuna
back four at sunderland
Lowton centre half! Eric the wimp. No chance.
-
Look at the state of Swansea!
They just had the perfect opportunity to lump it up the pitch then, but instead they kept possession, worked the ball up the pitch and created an effort on goal!
Idiots.
-
This is shit.
-
I like Hernandez. Decent player. We could do with someone like him.
-
well sunderland away then liverpoo and arsenal to come
-
Is Culverhouse even on the bench?
Our 3 subs are on.
-
What do you think?
Boos at the end of this one?
-
Delph has worked his ass off
-
luna baker lowton bacuna
back four at sunderland
Lowton centre half! Eric the wimp. No chance.
Donecian ?
-
Look at the state of Swansea!

Idiots.
Lambo could offer Bowery to Laudrup over their post match sherries!
-
Total shit. Again.
Lambert out.
-
ft boos again
-
Lambert will be delighted with that.
-
Luna looked better going forward today.
-
Luna looked better going forward today.
He actually did, yes
-
Rubbish Lambert out
-
Luna looked better going forward today.
Maybe but defensively he is garbage....responsible for their goal!
-
Lambert will insist we played brilliantly.
