Paul Lambert is hoping the makeover of the player's tunnel at Villa Park will inspire his young squad.
The Aston Villa boss revealed he had a big say in how the walkway from the changing rooms to the pitch would look.
The stylish facelift gives a nod to the glorious past of the Midlands club with the its honours listed on the cross beams overhead.
"The tunnel area is a big area," Lambert told the club's website.
"It has been done up now and it is fantastic.
"You see some of the history that there is at this club, what's happened in the past. You can't take that away from a club."
And now Villa fans too can get a glimpse of what the players see before they stride out onto the pitch on a matchday.

Very nice.
-
Looks good.
-
Another good tunnel.
-
That looks incredible. Hairs on the back of my neck standing up just from that image. Great addition!
-
YES YES OH YES
-
very nice....anything that enhances the club's history...
-
Class looking.
-
They might have thought of leaving room to add further titles in the future.
Looks good though.

I thought that. Maybe they are easily detachable and can be moved over to maintain a sense of balance as and when seasons are added.
-
Do other cross beams refer to our glories in Divs 2 and 3 plus League /FA Cup etc?
-
The best tunnel anywhere in the World, no doubt.
-

be nice to see a video of the whole thing DCF and let's hope there is room for those 8/9/10/11/12th FA Cups...
-
I'm quite sure as we add new items of silverware those sections would be easily modified and all done with a big smile.
-
Another reason to love Paul Lambert.
He just gets it, doesn't he?
-
Will they have to take their boots off before walikng on the carpet?
-
Another good tunnel.
I agree.
-
Widest tunnel in the Premier League. There you go
-
The beautiful thing about it is it should motivate current and future Villa players to get their achievements up there. On another note, the club may need to add a another beam or two for the League Cup wins and Youth Team achievements.
-
can this be the turnstile i use please
-

Good problem to have. Let's hope it's not long before it's an issue.
-
Love It!
I'm hoping it's out the picture but there's a couple more beams either before or after those with our FA cup and League Cup wins.
-
There's tunnels and there's tunnels.
That's a tunnel.
-
There's a decent free video on the official site about the tunnel.
-
It still has that in-built fault that the teams have to cross over on the stairs, because the larger home changing room is on the 'wrong' side. And presumably the dates aim to make hotshot opponents concentrate for the first 15 minutes of each match, not on playing but on counting just how many trophies their club has won since 1982.
-

I don't know about the League Cup wins but there is a beam with the FA Cup wins before the beam with the league titles. The video on the OS showed it.
-
Impressive. Very classy.
But am I the only one who thinks that to copy the "this is Anfield " sign is wrong. Maybe just " Villa Park".
Anyway, small point- it is a bloody fine welcome to the pitch.
-

.."free video..." Danno- how did you access the video without going through AVTV and subscribing?
-
Another good tunnel Randy
-
Top tunnel that.
-
There's tunnels and there's tunnels.
That's a tunnel.
".. it's by far the greatest tunnel the world has ever seen ..."
-
Rather than say, "This Is Villa Park", I think it should say, "Entrance Tunnel My Lord"
Everyone would love that...
-

Everyone would love that...
It should say "The Home Of League Football
Villa Park"
...and it would be perfect!
I agree with the earlier opinion that the "This is..." bit smacks of Liverpool.
-
Actually I'm a little disappointed. I'd rather we created a home team tunnel and an away team tunnel. The home team tunnel would be similar to what you see now but with the carpet also layered wih rose petals. Gentle, yet buxom maidens would greet the team at the end of the game, but only in victory.
The away team tunnel is dark and cold. There would be cobwebs, and creepy things hanging from the beams. Broken glass and barbed wire would form obstructions as the teams entered the playing area. Finally they would need to negotiate a team of hungry Orcs and a Beserker.

I completely agree with you Simba.
I would also like us to have our trophies listed around the stadium like Ajax (and Arsenal)

Agreed on the Liverpool reference, I thought the same. Can't remember whether it was Shankly or Paisley that had the 'This Is Liverpool' sign installed but if Lambert becomes our equivalent, I would take that.
Maybe they could have used 'Founders of the Football League' or something like that.
-
The AVTV show featuring the tunnel is on Youtube:

STRIKE fear into the hearts of the opposition:
"This is Villa Park: home of Nicky Keyes"

I completely agree, I'd had the same thought when the new flags down Witton Lane were introduced, maybe even putting it over every entrance to the away section.

Well said, DC5
-
Looks good to me

Faulkner says it should inspire the current team to add their own honours. I doubt it would cost that much to repaint it next time we win something.
-
Looks really good I think

I'd make the away tunnel a bit like the railway platform at the entrance to a concentration camp - sinister guards with barking dogs screaming at the players to hurry the fuck up.
-

As long as it is heavy contract quality adhered down all over with the recommended adhesive onto a correctly prepared sub floor there should be no problem with premature wear. ;)
-
STRIKE fear into the hearts of the opposition:
"This is Villa Park: home of Nicky Keyes"
I heard a few years ago there was a sign up at Blues tunnel saying "This is Karren Brady way"
-
Where are the boards for FA and League cup wins?
edit: just seen the video. They are there.
-
Get rid of 'This is Villa Park'.
Don't like it.
Nice idea but ruined by that.
-
Another reason to love Paul Lambert.
He just gets it, doesn't he?
Yes I think he does.
Saunders did. So did GT. So did BFR to an extent. Little obviously did - Gregory gobbed off too much. As for the others - Turner and Eck did but they were so far out of the depth it was like watching tadpoles swimming with sharks. Houllier - no he never ever got Aston Villa. Neither did McNeill. Based on what they had experienced previously that was shameful.

Same here. Seems like a backhanded compliment to Liverpool to me. Christ couldn't we think of something original.
Other than that though it looks pretty smart.
-
Absolutely love it. 'This is Villa Park' is just perfect, that'd get me really amped up if I was a player.
-
Is it just mirrors but the left side says 'Villa' and the right side says 'Aston'?

Someone summed up Houllier perfectly - he was a consultant brought into do a job, with no loyalty to his employer. McNeill was killing time until he moved back to Celtic.
-

So its untrue that we have the widest tunnel in the league now?
-

Noticed that too.
Just doesn't work does it?
A bit of a booboo?
Sack the f**ker who worked that bit out!
:D
-
Is it just mirrors but the left side says 'Villa' and the right side says 'Aston'?
It does, but its because they're outside of the double doors.
They're what people are going to see looking in from the outside, so they are in fact the right way round!
The picture gallery here will make more sense:

I like your thinking:
Nobody would be bothered about the entrance music if they could watch John Terry scuttle out ahead of a 20 ton boulder.
-
A bit disappointing really. It looks like it finishes at least 20 feet short of the perimeter fence. It will be tricky using it in daylight. I wonder if they'll call it Tom, Dick or Harry.
-
It looks nice but having the bulk of honours listed from our 19th century league wins may not engender much respect from our players or those of the opposition.
-
It looks nice but having the bulk of honours listed from our 19th century league wins may not engender much respect from our players or those of the opposition.
Well for starters there is a European Cup on there which Man City, Arsenal, Spurs and plenty of others have never done. Then there is a 1981 league championship which is more recent than any championships Spurs, Newcastle etc have ever managed.
-
I've always thought the ideal tag-line for Villa Park would be The Stately Home Of Football.
-
I love it.
I now need one of those Rampant Lions in stainless steel in my living room.
I'm sure my missus won't mind.
-

eamonn those titles tell the football world we are a proper football club with deep lying history and tradition. That our story holds weight even in a much different, arguably shallower time where many of those rich values no longer exist. Players will come and go. Our foundations and contribution to the game will stand the test of time.
-
Like the use of 'proper' claret, shame we can never get it right with our shirts.
-
It looks nice but having the bulk of honours listed from our 19th century league wins may not engender much respect from our players or those of the opposition.
Opposing players will see we've won honours pretty much every decade since the game started and, to round it off, they'll be reminded that we're a European Cup winning club, too. I'm not sure what effect it'll have on the opposition but hopefully it will send our players out with a real sense of pride in the club and a hunger to add to Villa's successes.

There's another aspect too. When we're talking to a prospective signing and showing them around, showing them that tunnel area is going to be damn impressive. In fact, if we start looking to sign players who have played at Villa Park before they'll be more aware of our history which they might not otherwise have been.

I think Faulkner & co should set up a desk there whenever deals are to be done to be honest.
-
Yes. ITSITT!
-
It's great. And dare I say it, another classy touch from Mr Lerner.
-
also there should be pictures or murals showing those great captains over the years holding aloft the trophies that this great club has won. that would then show to these current villa players what sort of standard and heights they must achieve and to the visiting players of so called big clubs that this club has already scaled those european heights that you can only hope to do with or without a cheque book or wealthy sheikh.
-
Like the use of 'proper' claret, shame we can never get it right with our shirts.
I wonder why our kit suppliers struggle so hard to get the claret colour right? Surely it can't be that hard. It should be the first thing the club insists on, yet so many times over the years we've played in different shades of it.

There are some outside the ground now.

Are you loitering around Villa Park with your poster collection again Legion ?
-
Only on match-days.
-
yea i know legion but if they was there in the players sights when they line up to walk out it would surely give the players a reminder of the highest of heights this club has been and one day will surely return.
-
Have to agree the 'This is Villa Park' is p-iss poor. Surely the marketing team could've come up with something better considering the long and distinguished history of our club, instead they've just lifted someone else's idea.
-
I don't think Liverpool have exclusive copyright on the words "this" and "is".
-
Can't see the problem with the 'this is' bit. Mountain and mole hill springs to mind.

it really is a nothing issue

I don't think Liverpool have exclusive copyright on the words "this" and "is".
But they do have exclusive rights on " Eh, eh calm down" and " Giz a job" merchandise.
