Saturday 28.9.13 3pm KO
They will score more than our nil.
-
put a 1 in front of the nill and we might be somewhere near
-
no ,no, i'm not going to get all down and negative
be positive i'm going for a narrow 4 nill loss
-
put a 1 in front of the nill and we might be somewhere near
You expect us to get 10!?
-
The Villa 2 - them 5....sadly :(
-
An away banker, it might only be 0-1 but City will win.
These days Man U, Man C, Liverpool, Arsenal and now Chelsea and even Spurs never have an off day at Villa Park, but sometimes do at places like Southampton and Norwich :-[
-
no ,no, i'm not going to get all down and negative
be positive i'm going for a narrow 4 nill loss
Those seem to be acceptable these days. Really hope that we can get some fire in our belly but am dreading that we will have to keep looking at their rabble encroaching onto the pitch with no arrest ever being made.
-
Play like we did against Newcastle and we'll get a sound thrashing. We need to get back to the performances we delivered against Arsenal and Chelsea, but without Okore and Benteke I fear the worst. How depressing is it that I'll be strolling across Aston Park hoping we don't lose by too many. Gabby's perfect hat-trick against these seems light years away. Five years is proving to be an awful long time in football.
-
Draw.
Sorry, that's as negative as I get!
-
8-0 Villa, easy.
-
They've been poor away from home with 1 point out of Cardiff and Stoke and we've proved that we play better against the bigger teams; I can see us doing well. Not to mention they've got to play Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
2-1 Villa.
-
Can't see us scoring to be honest. I think this one will be a stroll in the (villa) park for City. They've got four top quality strikers to pick from, no matter who they want to rest, who would have field day against our backline.
Expects Milner to put one past us too.
-
I think we might sneak it, but I will go for a draw. We used to have those quite a lot once upon a time.
-
8-0 Villa, easy.
I misread that as 8-0 to Villa, sorry, and then realised you meant it the other way round....cough
-
Villa 0.3 Cit-eh
Sorry see nothing other than this. Kompany back and their new signings bedding in.
-
Its a day out
It might not rain
That's about the only positives I can think of
-
0-6 them
-
I think we'll struggle in this one, 0-3.
-
We will lose. I'm just hoping for a plucky narrow defeat as opposed to a battering.
-
City have banged in 9 goals in their last 2 games and will come here full of confidence - our home form is really poor and i fear a heavy beating is on the cards sadly.
We need to find a style of play that entertains and gives us chance of getting results at home as this home form has gone on far too long - we look a totally different team in away games.
Now with okore and benteke out for a long spell it looks a far more depressing scenario than a month ago :(
Forecast 0-4
-
An away banker, it might only be 0-1 but City will win.
These days Man U, Man C, Liverpool, Arsenal and now Chelsea and even Spurs never have an off day at Villa Park, but sometimes do at places like Southampton and Norwich :-[
Cardiff, too. But they scored twice from corners.
-
Villa 0 man City shed load.
Rarely have I been so certain of another bad home defeat. It's depressing stuff for fans that only go to home matches.
-
0-2
They'll win, but it wont be as bad as you think.
-
Watch us get a draw now.
-
The optimism of the first 3 games is now sadly a distant memory. Try as I might,I can't see anything but a comfortable 3 or 4-0 victory for Man City. Really can't see us scoring & the defensive frailties are still there for all to see.
Oh well,at least I can have a few beers before & after!!
-
A shock 2-1 home win
Kovak, Vlaar
-
A) Can't see us keeping a clean sheet
B)No Benteke can't see us scoring
-
Villa 1 City 7
-
Villa 1 City 7
The sad thing is I'm not sure you are joking :(
-
2-0 To City.
-
Villa 1 City 7
The sad thing is I'm not sure you are joking :(
Obviously he's joking - he thinks we'll get 1! ;)
-
Performance will be better but difficult to see much beyond a City win by 2 goals, 0-2 sounds right to me.
-
Us 0 Them 27 Joe Hart with 25 of them.
-
Optimism does not abound.
-
Villa 1 - citeh 3, boooo
-
I fear this.
-
4 - 0 defeat.
Still work in progress, team in transition, carrying too many injuries etc, etc.
-
Think we can keep it down to 0-5 as they have an eye on B Munich on the tuesday
-
Sad to say I am saving my fuel and pre match balti pie and chips money this weekend -if the manager cant be arsed to try and win games then I cant be arsed to attend - two season ticket seats will remain empty again on Saturday.
City to dominate this completely - Villa 0 City 4
Bright future my arse!!
-
0-5
Im afraid
If they have an off day will be just 0-2 but I think tehy are stated to gel ;(
I see they have BM on Tuesday , oh thats good news 0-4 then
-
I'm not looking forward to this can't see anything but a heavy defeat 0-5
-
Us 0 Them 27 Joe Hart with 25 of them.
We will be lucky to get 0!11!
There are some whoppers in this thread PWS.
-
David White, Tony Daley, white snow and an orange ball. Let it be so.
-
Record defeat?
-
If they come for a stroll 0-3 if they come to play total embarassment.
-
David White, Tony Daley, white snow and an orange ball. Let it be so.
Sadly, I think it stands more of a chance of being a repeat of David White, Jo Venglos and one of the worst Villa performances I have ever witnessed.
-
Feeling strangely upbeat and positive this week. Villa to win. Tonev & Weimann to score.
-
We are low on confidence at home and they are likely league champions. So, likely we'll lose but hope its not another 4-0.
-
I cant see us getting anything out of this game
3-1 to City
3 home league defeats on the bounce
But I will be there! so come on Villa!!!
-
We need a performance and result akin to the 2-0 doings of Chelsea a few years ago, just to break the mental block that Villa Park may have for our players.
We've certainly got to keep the ball a lot better. Westwood was poor against Newcastle, but it seems he was injured. Hopefully a two week rest up will allow him to come into the side match fit, as his ball retention and use is very good and we're quite sloppy with our play (rushed at times) when he isn't on form.
Delph and Sylla to partner him. I hope Gabby is fit. I think 4-3-3 is the way to go in this one.
-
I'd go:
Steer Guzan Given
Lowton Baker Clark Vlaar Luna Bacuna
Delph
Gabby
-
Just give it a go.
Try and pass to each other.
I am not confident they will do either.
-
I'd go:
Steer Guzan Given
Lowton Baker Clark Vlaar Luna Bacuna
Delph
Gabby
If you took Gabby out and shoved in another defender you'd be from the Mcleish school Leeg!
-
We'll get nothing more or less than what we expect.
-
Feeling strangely upbeat and positive this week. Villa to win. Tonev & Weimann to score.
Tonev to score? The club kept that quiet - moving the goal to Holte block K2.
-
I'd go:
Steer Guzan Given
Lowton Baker Clark Vlaar Luna Bacuna
Delph
Gabby
Why no Siegrist ?
-
1-1
Get a grip the lot of you :-)
-
0.5
-
I'd go:
Steer Guzan Given
Lowton Baker Clark Vlaar Luna Bacuna
Delph
Gabby
You’re having a laugh aren’t you? There’s no way Bacuna will be left back, he’ll be right back with Lowton making up one of the four centre halves.
-
Need some fight in the belly for this one!
-
It's gonna be brutal!
-
Need some fight in the belly for this one!
There sure aint none in the wetters on here.
-
Hoping for a draw but probably lose because that's what we do against the big spenders at Villa Park but can't see it being the hammering many on here are predicting. They lost at Cardiff and was goalless at Stoke so I expect us to give them a hard game.
-
Also (like a lot of other teams) they tend to perform well against the top teams and less well against those lower down the league.
I still think they'll win, but I wouldn't be totally shocked to see us snatch a draw or narrow victory.
-
My Villa heart says draw. My head says that given what I watched Sandro so we should really worry about what Yaya Toure might do in influencing the game.
-
A tonking and more excuses involving ''kids, project, injuries, keep the faith''
-
Stop being such a fanny.
-
Stop crawling up Lamberts arse.
-
Be nice, please.
-
Stop being such a fanny.
Ballers rollin up in this bitch!
-
They can g themselves up to beat yanited, but won't be able to against tiny villa. 2-1 us. Puts bong down.
-
Cant see anything other than big defeat. Even if we score once or twice because Kojak and Helenius show us their potential I don't trust this defence at all.
-
Apart from their Champions League game they have not been fantastic away from home, they have not turned us over by vast scorelines in the last 3 seasons at VP and they have a big game on Tuesday. Not saying we'll win but a draw would not be a total suprise and I don't think it will be an absolute spanking.
-
Can we borrow Craig Bellamy for this one? Just the sort of niggly fucker with a grudge that we need for this game.
-
Cannot think of a worse time to be playing them. 0-5 minimum.
-
So easy to be negative and whinge.....so I will oppose the sheep on here and say an entertaining 2-2 draw. Gabby x 2.
UTV
-
Villa win and all the doom merchants who are expecting a tonking can eat my shorts.
-
0-0. Decent point.
-
3/1 the draw... 6/1 home win...
-
3/1 the draw... 6/1 home win...
I will take 6\1
-
@MatKendrick: Ashley Westwood will miss the Man City match with a thigh strain, but could return for the trip to Hull #avfc
-
3/1 the draw... 6/1 home win...
I will take 6\1
Don't take it, as Sportingbet will give you 13/2.
-
I'll give you 30-1
****I'm not known for paying up if I lose however
-
Looks like I chose the wrong week to stop sniffing glue!
-
SkyBet has us to win and Gabby to score at 12-1. That might be worth a punt. Gab normally likes a goal a against that mob.
-
0-3
-
I'm seriously questioning my decision to pick this game as my one trip over for the season.
Although, my other option was the Newcastle game and that was bad enough watching on the internet.
This trip is costing me a lot of money so please Villa boys, put in a bit of effort, please try and pass the ball to someone on your own team and please don't be an embarassement.
2-1 Villa.
Delph & Gabby for us.
-
Villa are never an embarrassment.
-
Looks like I chose the wrong week to stop sniffing glue!
Wood glue is no good.
-
Jeeez talk about doom & gloom!!!!
They've been shite away from home so far, Stoke battered them for f**k sake, have some faith!!
2-1 to the boys, Kozak and Gabby. Navas for them.
UTV!!!!!!!!!
-
Fuck it. We're going to win. We've beaten them at our place and we've battered them at theirs in between taking a few kickings ourselves. We can win this and will put in a top performance to knock them off their perch. 2-1 Villa, Gabby and Kozak.
-
Who should we go for in midfield? Sylla, Delph and...? Al Achmady? We need as much brute force as possible to stop that lanky streak from the Cote d'Ivoire. If Ireland was still here, it might be the one game where he'd bust a gut.
2-4, Gabby with a sexy brace in vain.
-

I'm not convinced he will play sylla although i certainly would , my fear is he will go with Delph , kea and bacuna .
-
Would anyone take 0-2 at this stage ?
-
No.
-
I think he'll go Sylla, Delph and KEA.

Totally agree. Got a mate who has put money on Man City as part of a accumulator and he never wins a thing so he's going to lose again.
-
I think he'll go Sylla, Delph and KEA.
Thats probably what I'd do tbh.
At this stage, Delph is pretty much a given. Sylla we'll need to add a bit of strength (especially against the likes of Toure). I know KEA has his detractors, but if nothing else you can rely on him to press and hassle the opposition when we dont have the ball, and at the moment he's better on the ball than Bacuna (who'll probably play at RB).
-
I'd be temped to play 4-4-2 and have bacuna wide midfield to help out Lowton- city are powerful in midfield and worry me. If we get overrun in midfield they will tear us apart.
-
1-3 City.
Can't really see any other result, they are starting to get in their stride and seem to enjoy playing at Villa Park, and we are still a little iffy in certain areas.
If we can get a draw having won at Norwich last week then that would be steady progress for me.
-
1-3 or 1-4
-
This one had me checking if the Ted Drake game was our worst home league defeat.
-
I'd be temped to play 4-4-2 and have bacuna wide midfield to help out Lowton- city are powerful in midfield and worry me. If we get overrun in midfield they will tear us apart.
If we play 4-4-2 we are absolutely guaranteed to get overrun in midfield. Our best chance is to crowd the centre.

I was thinking of bacuna, Delph kea and sylla as a midfield 4 with gabby and Kozak up front.
I don't think we can go with Weimann, gabby and Kozak against city .

So a diamond? Well, it'd help out the centre, but they'd just go wide with Navas and Nasri and their overlapping fullbacks and drag us all over VP. No, conservative, solid, 4-5-1/4-3-3 has to be the only way, and that front three have to work their bollocks off as well - particularly the wide two in getting back.
-
My prediction -
Villa beat Man City- everyone on here says we are brilliant and we are going to win the league. Paul Lambert is the best manager in the Preimer League.
Villa lose to Hull City - everyone on here says we are total shite and will be relegated. Paul Lambert hasn't got a clue.
Villa beat Spurs- everyone on here says we are brilliant and we are going to win the league. Paul Lambert is the best manager in the Preimer League.
Villa lose to Everton- everyone on here says we are total shite and will be relegated. Paul Lambert hasn't got a clue.
etc
etc
End of season
-
I would use bacuna on the right of a midfield 4 to help out Lowton , certainly wouldn't go with a 433 at home to city , maybe a 451 which could be deemed a bit negative at home but considering the opposition would be acceptable.
At some point I'd like to see Bennett wide left in a midfield 4 as i think it might suit him better and also provide more cover for luna .

just heard this and that was exactly my reaction...
-
In my humble experience, sometimes when we fully expect to lose, Villa somehow put in a performance that leaves us wondering where it came from, so my hopeful/wishful prediction is 2-1 Villa.
-
Guess we can go into this one with no pressure albeit 4 straight home defeats would be hard to stomach or defend.

Ooh, you're bold! Isn't he bold?!
You are right, though. And I think we will.
-
Oh fuck it, I can moan with the best of them but come on you Villa boys! Fortune favours the brave, come on lads, show them what you're made of.
-
Villa to win 2-1.
Off topic, but still on topic, does anyone know of any places to watch Villa games in Tokyo? I have just moved here and although often on this site, i have no idea how to post a thread of my own requesting knowledge of places to watch the game.
If someone can recommend places in Tokyo or teach me how to post a new thread, I'd be very much grateful! Cheers
-
Have you found martin, our man in Tokyo?
-
Aguero is out then ;-)
Hope springs eternal...
-
Yeah, they probably only have someone like Jordan Bowery to replace him.
-

I can see what you are saying, but unfortunately those occasions always seem to be away from home these days. I also agree with eastie that our problems on the left mean we should consider playing Bennett in front of Luna. I have actually swung today from being convinced we would lose to fancying us for a draw. And I haven't had a drink yet.
-
Have you found martin, our man in Tokyo?
No mate, though, funnily enough, about 5 years ago I visited tokyo and Martin(I'm sure it must be the same guy) recommended a great pub for me to watch the 4-1 Newcastle home game where Carew scored a hattrick. He even told me to say 'Villa Martin' sent you to the bar staff. Is he still around on the site?

I thought he would start with dzecko anyway and rest aguero .
-
What are we worrying about? ."............
Aston Villa v Manchester City - referee: Mike Jones M1, YC2, RC1, PK1.
Jones steps out for just his second top flight game of the season and has Aston Villa, who he has refereed in 10 Premier League games since he got onto the select group referees list. They are yet to lose.
That’s quite a sequence for a team who lose their fair share of games, and Jones was in charge when they lost narrowly at Arsenal in an FA Cup tie two years ago. Given that Jones also sent off City’s Samir Nasri and Gareth Barry in 2012 and you might fancy an unexpected home win......
Sorted then

Any one of their forwards could tear us to ribbons in all honesty. It's like telling Woody Allen he that he won't have to fight Hulk Hogan, but he'll still have to face Macho Man Randy Savage.

Fuck yeah!
Got a ticket for tomorrow, I've been buzzing since I found out, as the opportunities are few and far between thanks to redundancy and a new baby.
We'll play well, really well, then gift them a soft goal. They'll sit back and dictate the game, look to see it out only for Tonev to come on and snatch the win with two rasping drives late on.
-

I don't believe this all-optimistic routine you have on this evening.
It's about as natural as the bits on celebrity Mastermind where John Humphreys tries to make chatty small talk with the contestants.

I'm always optimistic right before a game. 5 minutes in and it all changes though.
-
Aguero missing for them is a slight boost. However, I'm very worried about the prospect of Yaya Toure running the midfield and making our guys look like amateurs. Need a big shift in there from Delph and Sylla, keep things tight and look to play on the counter. A 1-1 draw is possible, however my head is saying a 3-1 defeat.
-
Got to start Sylla, Delph and Westwood in the middle for me. Then Weimann and Albrighton on the flanks and Gabby up on his own IMO. We need to play to feet and on the counter, not launch it to the big man.
-
Ozzyjim, cant disagree with that, Gabby is a better hold up player than some of us realise
-

I like this idea, though there is an argument for Kozak's abrasive hard-work. But Albrighton looks sharp and motivated, and speed on the break might be our saviour - and Kozak, for all his good qualities, is not quick.
-
We won't score. They will. Several times.
Hope I'm wrong.
-
As Paulie has gone and posted in the Post Match thread, by H&V tradition we're now doomed.
I know who I'll be blaming at 4.45pm tomorrow.
-
this is being optimistic . 1-4.
-

Westwood is out.
Would love to be optimistic but they will have too much for us and especially our defence. 3-0 Citeh
-
My brain tells me we'll more than likely lose(fairly heavily) and my heart feels a shock win coming on but at the end of the day I'm just gonna be happy seeing my daughter be a mascot so in a weird kinda way the result is secondary to the day........................though not getting thrashed would be good
-

Can't argue with that, it will be an uncomfortable afternoon!
-
Sadly another home defeat under Lambert, 1-4 to City
-
I think if they don't score within the fist 15 we can make this very difficult for them. Personally I wouldn't start Kozak:
Guzan
Lowton Clark Vlaar Luna
Bacuna Delph Kea
Albrighton Gabby Weimann
My thinking here being that Bacuna can protect Lowton more than if we played Bacuna at right back and Sylla in the middle. Kea makes the team ahead of Sylla based on recent performances, especially against Spurs where I thought Sylla looked a bit headless chicken and I think we need to try to play it around Toure rather than out-muscle him. Kozak on the bench so we don't play it long and continually invite pressure on ourselves when it invariably bounces off him.
Having said all this I'm pretty sure Kozak will start.
-
1-5 citeh
-
1-5 citeh
Another optimist eh.
They have used up their goals for this week, nine so far. It's going to be close not a walkover and here's hoping for a gutsy point.
-
It's a shame as Man City would probably come and play which would suit us more but without Benteke and players out of form We have no goal threat. I think City will score in the first 5 mins and then it could get quite ugly
-
I could see us getting spanked. On the other hand, citeh have been poor away from home this year and rested a few ahead of their last big CL game.
I think the most likely outcome is probably a 2-0 defeat.
Can't see us having too much goal threat. Perhaps Bacuna's set pieces will be a threat with Citeh having looked poor in defending set pieces so far this season.
But with kompany back I can see it being a difficult afternoon for kozak
-
More than their attacking ability it is Kompany and Toure that are the two players that make them so very solid. I still think we can get a draw out of this and with a bit of luck a win, but we don't match up well physically. We'll have to play very well to win this.
-
Sometimes villa can totally turn the form book around and be hard to predict - lets hope this is one of those days .
-
The sun's shining, so definitely a Villa victory.
-
Looking at both teams, squads, individuals etc etc this does look like david v goliath but it's football and we will win.
-
I'm about to leave work and head towards the ground, whilst trying to convince myself that we'll surprise a few people today and stand up to be counted...

Those going to this match are braver than me. Scarey. At best, watching Citeh's collection of excellent expensive players up against our eager youngsters should be a treat for true football fans. What we want is 1) Lambo exhibiting unforseen tactical nous and 2) the players sticking to that plan and battling every minute for a result.

Bravery has nowt to do with it! Season tickets must be used if we like it or not ;-)
Just want to see us play today - our record against them isn't too bad so who knows?

I want to see a fight fight fight approach from us and strangely enough I am looking forward to an afternoon at VP. If we give 100% and smash a few of theirs but still lose... fine!
-
If we lose 4-0 and play like we did on Tuesday, then I will be extremely pissed off.
If we lose 4-0 but actually try to win the game and put some effort in, then, whilst defeat is always hard to take, I will walk away thinking that at least we gave it a go.
So, my prediction is 4-0. How we go about losing 4-0 is entirely down to the players.

I am looking forward to a very good performance from our lads. The result, well, nobody is expecting us to beat them.
Just give your all lads and there will be no complaints from me. UTV.

More than their attacking ability it is Kompany and Toure that are the two players that make them so very solid. I still think we can get a draw out of this and with a bit of luck a win, but we don't match up well physically. We'll have to play very well to win this.
Could be worth telling Delph just to go wherever Toure goes to try and stop him. However, one, that's not really Delphs game, two, he'd probably get himself sent off very quickly with his stupid tackles and three, he's the one player this season that has driven us on in games.

Heart saying 2-1, but head saying 1-2, last minute disappointment after a sprited effort & continued gushyness as to our youthful promise in the press.
-
3-0 Villa, absolute dreamland and a day we'll never forget.
-
Of to the boozer to watch the game. C'mon you Villa Boys. UTV.

A bit disappointed that everyone thinks we'll lose, Can understand why but we have been known to play well against bigger sides, I'm going for a home win

It's important to remember that Man City have been beaten in their recent history. Let's not throw in the towel so quickly.
