No Westwood or Lowton? Not even on the bench ?

Glad Lowton and Westwood have been dropped. Would of gone with Baker instead of Clark though.

C'mon Villa....

KEA gets another chance ahead of Sylla.
Not too happy about that.

Lowton hasn't had a good game since last season...you have to drop players out of form, that goes for Joe Allen too, sorry Westwood.

Post by: SoccerHQ on September 21, 2013, 12:03:17 PM
Not sure on that team at all even with the changes, would've had Sylla and Baker in.

We're rarely good enough whoever we play against in a 4-4-2 so not confident on that.

Very weak in defence. Clark is rusty. Luna and Bacuna lack experience. Plus 4 attacking players. Delph and KEA will be run ragged.

Good to see Westwood and Lowton not being rewarded for poor displays, but I'm annoyed Sylla isn't in. I'm curious to see what Tonev does.

When's the last time Albrighton was in the squad ?
Title: Re: Norwich City v Aston Villa Match Thread

@NorwichCityFC: Ruddy; Martin, Bassong (c), Turner, Garrido; Snodgrass, Howson, Fer, Redmond; Elmander; van Wolfswinkel.

Think Lowton and Westwood deserved to be dropped. Still surprised (and Disappointed) to see KEA in instead of Sylla

Long before Lambert said this week that he can go on loan, probably to Derby.

Great, time to spend 90 minutes shaking like a shitting dog. I would plump for Baker every time over Clark, maybe he's not fully fit?

I think I read somewhere this week that PL has said this is a huge season for Albrighton as his contract runs out at the end of the season. Needs to prove himself on loan to get back in the squad otherwise I fear he'll be off to the Championship.

Clark looked good for Irleland, I think he is a vastly improved player and has the potential to improve further.

Would have liked to see Sylla in the team.

Come on Villa!!

Got to admire him for not just sticking with it. Only Weimann for Sylla for me would be better for me.

This looks like 4231 to me, with Gabby and Andi tucking in if necessary. I thought it was a half twelve kick off. I have never been in the ground so early.

Its too early for this shit.
Title: Re: Norwich City v Aston Villa Match Thread

Lambo on BT Sport. Injury to Westwood. Did not mention Lowton, though. Onus on Norwich at home i.e. we'll counter attack. Clean sheets issue dismissed, if we outscore opponents. No need to panic after 5 games, wait until 12.

weimann is lucky to start for me . He has to have a very good game today . Hopefully away from home he will.  KEA was shocking last week , suprised Sylva is not starting .

Owen Hargreaves fuck off...

Shitting it with our midfield. Not so worried at the back, Bacuna did well at right back second half against Liverpool. Redmond might hurt us though.
Title: Re: Norwich City v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: andyh on September 21, 2013, 12:34:59 PM
On bt sport they were discussing Benteke, Hargreaves said, Benteke is one of the best strikers in the prem and he is really surprised one 'of the top clubs' haven't come in for him and that Spurs were a perfect fit for him.

Midfield needs to close down theirs quickly and work as a unit. For me it's more about commitment and tenacity than it is about size and strength.

I think he said Arsenal were a perfect fit.

Besides, it's hardly like it's news - most of us are more or less in agreement, aren't we?!
Title: Re: Norwich City v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Matt Collins on September 21, 2013, 12:38:38 PM
Don't see the problem with Hargreaves' comments, it's what we all think.

I'd presumed Lowton was injured to not even be on the bench. Who plays right back if Bacuna gets injured or given the runaround (which I think is a possibility against Redmond)?

Think the midfield looks very lightweight. KEA in a two? Not for me.

Looks like we're set up to play on the break.

So generally not too happy with the team. But then I again I felt the same before the Stoke away game and we were excellent.

Title: Re: Norwich City v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: andyh on September 21, 2013, 12:39:37 PM
He said said spurs, but it's not really what he said, it's just the fact there was absolutely no need for it and its just another 'pundit' being cheaply dismissive of our club.

...What did Hargreaves do?

He's giving an opinion shared by a lot of people. It's hardly breaking news. If we provide Benteke with a sound reason to stay we won't need to be so jumpy every time someone in the media suggests he'd be better somewhere else. If we turn in shit performances like last week, or lose today then you have to think Benteke will be looking to move anyway.

Snodgrass sold Weimann and Luna then. If we are going 4-4-2 I would prefer Bennett in front of Luna I have to say.

For a supposedly counter-attacking time we are shite at defending. I mean, inviting pressure with that defence is asking for trouble.

We look hopeless at the back again. Getting pulled all over the place behind our full backs.

Think the shape looks poor too. We lack options to play it to with what's almost a 442.

Tonev a bit headless too but could be a threat.

Not sure what to make of that to be honest!

Guzan, Clark and vlaar doing well.bacuna too, but he is exposed. Luna really struggling. Think I might get baker on for him

KEA and Delph doing well, growing into it. But we're still leaving a lot of space in front of the back four.

Gabby sensational, Tonev pretty awful, Weimann his best and worst, kozak much more mobile than I thought.

Sylla for Tonev for me. Revert to 433, it even 442

Bacuna and KEA have justified their inclusions, Weimann shows what we have been missing, a creative midfielder, he is hit and miss atm, but his good moments have been very good.

Gabby must love playing at Norwich, Tonev, will get better.

If we take our time a bit better, we could be quite good going forward.

Best first half in a long time. Lambert has obviously told them we can't sit back for 45 minutes before we get going. Norwich are much improved but lack somebody in the middle to take advantage of the number of crosses into the box and chances they make. Saying that, Brad looks pretty much in control and I never doubted him saving the penalty.

Bacuna, Gabby, Delph and KEA have all looked good, especially Gabby who looks well up for it. The less said about Tonev the better.

Let's hope we don't sit back 2nd half. We'll need a second goal against this Norwich side.

Clean sheet and 3 points, get in! Forgotten what that feeling was like. Laursen was bang on with what he said in the week about a clean sheet relieving the pressure on both the defence (building confidence) and attack (not pressured to score 1+ goal to have a chance of 3 points). Lets go 26 straight clean sheets now!!
