Title: SC Paderborn vs Aston Villa. Super-Duper Thread
Post by: cdbearsfan on July 12, 2013, 09:28:58 AM
This lot should be more difficult than Wednesday's lot. They're in the second tier and have their own English-language Wiki page (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SC_Paderborn_07).

Will we get our first win of pre-season? Maybe.

Will we keep a clean sheet? Don't be fucking stupid.

Pandaporn 1 Villa 3.

The pace of the game the other day was very slow. Typical of a first pre-season game back, all a little lethargic, players still jogging off the summer beer and bbq. I don't expect this to be much different so it'll be tight.

2-1 Villa. Maximus Helenius, Wiemann.

To the Paderborn, starring Penelope von Keif and Dieter Bowles.

Has anybody done that one yet before PWS goes digging?

I know Paderborn quite well. Went there on work  often many many years ago. As  it's in the dambuster region  and so became handy for a visit there. It's a bit like Nuneaton .....

First Half
Steer, Vlaar, Clark, Bacuna, Helenius, Westwood, Delph, Webb, Bowery, Bennett, Carruthers.

Second Half
Guzan, Lowton, Baker, El Ahmadi, Luna, Sylla, Bowery, Weimann, Herd, Gardner, Carruthers.

A salutory reminder of what this is all about, a run out to get everyone a bit of match practice and fitness and to make them feel involved. With the exception of Tonev it appears....

Paderborn 1-0 Villa - HT: Hosts are in front at the break, Rick ten Voorde finishing neatly after good play down the left from Thomas Bertels. Villa had a couple of half-chances, Ciaran Clark heading wide and Ashley Westwood seeing a close-range shot blocked for a corner. 10 changes at the break.

I used to work for a construction company on an MoD contract and would have cause to visit many Raf and army bases around the country - why do they call royal signals scaley backs, always wondered, but never asked anyone before?

I believe it comes from WWI. The radios the signallers carried had huge battery packs which used to leak acid down the back of the poor sod carrying it causing acid burns and a "scaley back".
