Title: SV Rodinghausen vs Aston Villa, Mega Thread
Post by: cdbearsfan on July 10, 2013, 09:45:12 AM
Nice distraction from Tinyearsgate. Our pre-season starts tonight. Expect a few of the younger players to start.

We'll win easily. They don't even have a Wikipedia page. Will we finally keep a clean sheet?

Nein.

Here is their Wikipedia page

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/SV_R%C3%B6dinghausen

We even get a mention

"Zur Vorbereitung auf die Oberligasaison 2013/14 empfängt Rödinghausen im Juli 2013 den englischen Klub Aston Villa."

That's odd, Google didn't find it when I looked. Maybe the umlaut confused them.

Bloody hell, this first friendly has come round quick.

I'll go 4-1. Weimann with 2, Delph and Helenius.

One of my favourite quotes in music arose when Julian Cope was (for some strange reason) invited to play a folk festival. He went on stage with a heavy electric bass.

When someone in the audience heckled ....... "this supposed to be a folk festival", The Cope responded by saying.......... "I am folk, just with an umlaut over the O"

This team plays in the 5th div of Germany.

The 6-0 @ 16/1 and those who mention 4-1 11/1 are interesting shouts

I would go with a freak score line like 7-2 80/1

A Google translation of their Wiki page suggests four consecutive promotions? Could you do a proper translation and confirm whether this is correct.

"Für die Rödinghausener war es der vierte Aufstieg in Folge"

Absolutely!  Couldn't agree more. Bochum and Paderborn were completely destroyed in the last war with a huge loss of life. So was Bremen,  but that didn't stop the Villa fans singing "10 German Bombers" last year. Their justification: "It was just a bit of harmless banter. Can't the Germans take a joke?"

I should add that the British troops stationed there after the war, especially in Paderborn, did a tremendous amount of good, building bridges in more ways than one

Is that the full squad that's been taken? Bannan and Stephens can presumably be consigned to the scrap-heap alongside the senior money-suckers and Little Ears then.

"@MatKendrick: Of course the team line-ups show that Bent, Ireland, Bannan, Hutton, Given, Delfouneso (and that Benteke bloke) are not here #avfc"

Yep, it was discussed a while back too that Bannan and Fonz are both raking in at least a million a year. It's definitely time for them to move on for the next contingent of youngsters.

Rodinghausen 0-0 Villa - 30mins: Nothing much to report still. Villa have won three corners but they have been well cleared by the home team. Tonev has looked the most lively of the newboys, showing good touches and real willing to get forward.

Bowery looks out of his depth against 5th divison opposition. We've played as well as you'd expect for the first game back. Albrighton and Bowery seemed to link quite well but it's daft having Bowery out wide and Albrighton in the middle, as happened a couple of times. Guzan. Made a good save. It's windy. Um, that's it.

Steer, Lowton, Luna, Clark, Okore, Westwood, Weimann, Cupboardy, Gabby, Helenius are all warming up so I guess they'll all come on.

FT: Rodinghausen 1-1 Villa - Good workout for Lambert's men as they build up match fitness levels. Helenius heads home on debut.

Where? To Denmark? Did we look that shit?

That's a very bad start to the 2013/14 compaign. I don't know where a win is going to come from? Same old Villa and I blame McLeish.

I've just done the BBC predictor and have us finishing 12th in League One.

To be honest, that was dire. There's not many that will come out of that with any credit. On that showing, some of our players would comfortably fit in with a German fifth league, semi pro club.

To be fair, they are still full of pizza, hot dogs, beer and ice cream from their holidays.
Well relatively, but for professional footballers they are a long way off their cutting edge. They will get there. It's the point of a pre season, isn't it?

It was a terrible game.  Things can only get better.

I have written a very sternly worded letter to Mr Lambert. I am also sending copies to Mr Faulkner, Mr Lerner, The Pope, Genghis Khan, Fats Domino and Suzi Quatro.

I will be heard after this shambles goddamit!

You know, the more I look at those photos, the more I think Claret shorts with a white stripe up the side like the tops have in blue, would have been a better choice.

Reminder to self. Never arrive at a ground, in the middle of nowhere, 3 hours before kick off when in desperate need of a drink. The promise to let us in at 4 had vanished. 530 was our earliest chance.  Once inside, it wasn't too bad. We went in the stand as it was the same price in there as in the away enclosure, which was alongside the pitch opposite with very little in the way of facilities; the bogs being up the road in a school. Those who were in there did their best to drink the makeshift bar dry.

Did you do the Guess The Crowd game in your head to relieve the boredom?

I imagine it must have been the lowest turn-out of Villa fans at any game you've travelled to for a fair old time.

I hope you picked the right address for Mr G Khan as he has moved recently. It's no longer  G. Khan , Asia Minor . It's G. Khan, Greater Prussia and District of Rome.

This doesnt seem very positive for the club. There is an air of pessimism prevaling over B6 since the news about Benteke broke.

We need something to happen to lift spirits.

God knows what though.

I thought it was a nice little run out. Nobody pushed themselves too hard. Except Gabby, who seemed to think it was a Blues match.

Guzan had one shot to save, Herd and Albrighton (he also looked pretty fit) linked up ok on the right, Baker and Vlaar looked solid, Bennett had nowt to do. Tonev looks good. Very tall, with some tricks and an impressive turn of pace. Delph played well, and had a few nice touches. Sylla was ok. Bacuna, a taller Ashley Young, also looked good. Bowery was poor, second to the ball and looked lost.

Second half, a complete change. Steer didn't have much to do and couldn't be faulted for their free kick. Lowton was an auxiliary midfielder, getting forward a lot. Luna also looks good going forward but drew mirth from the fans when he went down clutching his face. Okore didn't impress me. He reminded me of Bryan Small, in that he seems to have no control over his limbs. And they're about the same height! Clark did ok. Westwood looked pretty good, as always. Cupboardy didn't do much, but Gardner tried a few flicks. They didn't come off, but I'm pleased to see him try them. Gabby, Weimann and Helenius linked up well. I can see Helenius slotting in well. Very similar to Crouch, with that same languor.

While locked outside, I counted the seats (roughly) as I knew how many tickets had been sold and wanted to know what chance we stood. It was surprising when a club official sold us two out of his jacket pocket.

I reckon there were about 50 Villa there. Difficult to say how many had travelled from England but there was at least 21 of us. There were 3 German Villans. The remainder were ex pats.
A very strange place. As you stood at the main entrance, behind you were fields, with their crops growing. Cars were parked between these fields on the roadside. There was one little lane called Jerusalem Straße. It was all quite surreal.

It was a good trip to a location who clearly weren't expecting us. All the facilities were as described but I have to say any time the Villa want to relocate my seat to the half way line with draft German beer within 2 paces then that will be fine by me!

We didn't play that badly tbf. We kept the ball ok without actually really going for it. Gabby was a bit chubby looking, but other than that nothing stood out good or bad really for me.

What a brilliant free kick for their goal.

Helenius took his very well, too, I thought.

I know this is odd, but it seemed strange seeing Weimann speak German at the end.
