Nice distraction from Tinyearsgate. Our pre-season starts tonight. Expect a few of the younger players to start.
We'll win easily. They don't even have a Wikipedia page. Will we finally keep a clean sheet?
Nein.

Rodinghausen 1 Villa 7
Here is their Wikipedia page

We even get a mention
"Zur Vorbereitung auf die Oberligasaison 2013/14 empfängt Rödinghausen im Juli 2013 den englischen Klub Aston Villa."

Can a grown-up make this thread all sticky please?

That's odd, Google didn't find it when I looked. Maybe the umlaut confused them.
-
Bloody hell, this first friendly has come round quick.
I'll go 4-1. Weimann with 2, Delph and Helenius.
-
That's odd, Google didn't find it when I looked. Maybe the umlaut confused them.
One of my favourite quotes in music arose when Julian Cope was (for some strange reason) invited to play a folk festival. He went on stage with a heavy electric bass.
When someone in the audience heckled ....... "this supposed to be a folk festival", The Cope responded by saying.......... "I am folk, just with an umlaut over the O"

This team plays in the 5th div of Germany.
The 6-0 @ 16/1 and those who mention 4-1 11/1 are interesting shouts
I would go with a freak score line like 7-2 80/1

Frank
A Google translation of their Wiki page suggests four consecutive promotions? Could you do a proper translation and confirm whether this is correct.
"Für die Rödinghausener war es der vierte Aufstieg in Folge"
-
I am fucking bricking it. The season can't end soon enough
-
Correct. 4 promotions in a row. They're now in the 5th tier of German football

Yep. Be afraid.

I think that is "feckoffyoubastard"

Actually, its "Tumbleweed". The only difference is the capitalisation of the first letter of a noun

0-8 away win.

We'll flipping murder them. They will be shitting bricks.

I am leaving home shortly to get to tonights game from Paderborn. Anybody needs picking up on the way let me know
-
I'd like to have a guess at the starting XI, but I still have absolutely no idea who's actually traveled. Can't remember the last year this info wasn't published on the website.
-
shit 2-1 victory, late goal from one of our new defenders for them to deny us a clean sheet, cries of Lambert OUT, inevitably Faulker is a clueless wanker.
Or 10-0 to us
One of the two

Yes. I've checked and it's nearly 700 miles and ten hours away so maybe give it a miss this time?

Absolutely! Couldn't agree more. Bochum and Paderborn were completely destroyed in the last war with a huge loss of life. So was Bremen, but that didn't stop the Villa fans singing "10 German Bombers" last year. Their justification: "It was just a bit of harmless banter. Can't the Germans take a joke?"
-
I should add that the British troops stationed there after the war, especially in Paderborn, did a tremendous amount of good, building bridges in more ways than one

-
What time is kick off for this?
18.00 our time.
-
First Half: Guzan, Vlaar, Baker, Bacuna, Albrighton, Delph, Sylla, Bowery, Tonev, Bennett, Herd
So presumably Herd at right-back, Tonev and Albrighton playing either side of Bowery?
-
Stupid question deleted
-
First Half: Guzan, Vlaar, Baker, Bacuna, Albrighton, Delph, Sylla, Bowery, Tonev, Bennett, Herd
Anyone seen the 2nd half sheet? Matt Kendrick's put it up on Twitter but the site's blocked to me.
-
VILLA Second Half: Steer, Lowton, Okore, Clark, El Ahmadi, Helenius, Agbonlahor, Luna, Westwood, Weimann, Gardner
-
steer, lowton, okore, kea, helenius, gabby, luna, westwood, weiman and gardner clark
-
Fluid 4-5-1 to 4-3-3 to remain the standard formation?
Guzan - Herd, Vlaar, Baker, Bennett - Sylla, Delph, Bacuna - Albrighton, Bowery, Tonev ?
-
so which Villa team would win then .first half v second half ;)
-
Is that the full squad that's been taken? Bannan and Stephens can presumably be consigned to the scrap-heap alongside the senior money-suckers and Little Ears then.
-
When you look at both teams I'd hazard a guess together they cost less than £30mil

and Fonz it looks
we knew about Bent , Ireland , given and Hutton

"@MatKendrick: Of course the team line-ups show that Bent, Ireland, Bannan, Hutton, Given, Delfouneso (and that Benteke bloke) are not here #avfc"
-
Those line-ups don't look that bad, it does highlight the obvious needs that we have though.
-
Is Siegrist with the group? Wondered whether he'll also get some game time in the tour to see how he does. It is interesting to see that Steers being worked in from the off. It would seem that Lambo may be ready to have him as number 2.

Yep, it was discussed a while back too that Bannan and Fonz are both raking in at least a million a year. It's definitely time for them to move on for the next contingent of youngsters.

Looks like the link doesn't work?
-
Anybody listening to Jack,he is using two yogurt cartons.
-
I can barely hear whats being said on the official audio stream, its pretty terrible
-
Bowery on his own up front first half ?. Fucking ada
But that is why he was bought, as Chesterfield's target man. Not the Weimman role, which had him looking all at sea in 2 or so matches last season.
-
Is Jack using a walkie talkie?
How is the link working out?
-
Jack just said the word 'dribble'.Made me larf don't know why.
-
link please as I can't hear radio
-
Come on me babbies!!
-
I wish Jack would tell that little shit to shut the fuck up.
-
Come on, Villa, they're all over us!
This is shit!
-
Hes using his mobile apparently to give the commentary lol
-
It's nice having the footy back aye it?
-
Jon and pauline are looking well - if a tad tanned.
-
Haven't we scored yet? May can't come soon enough!
-
It's nice having the footy back aye it?
No - too early clampy - hard to concentrate on football when big things are doing down at the bridge.
-
Bloody hell this is like being fucking 9 years old at the back of the holte end. Cant see shit, just hearing wankers who can. But I have no dad to lift me up on his shoulders. :(

That's no way to talk about Jack Woodward!

I very much doubt it, for their to be a link of a game it has to be shown live on tv somewhere. Who is going to show this live?

Still 0-0.
-
I hope those following the game get a good result - i have lost my appetite for sport tonight and will sign off for the evening .
-
The board must go!
-
A mate of mine who's over there has just text me saying it's a terrible game. Mind you, pre-season ones can be can't they.
-
As well as a few last Christmas.
-
Sounds a real thriller.
Rodinghausen 0-0 Villa - 30mins: Nothing much to report still. Villa have won three corners but they have been well cleared by the home team. Tonev has looked the most lively of the newboys, showing good touches and real willing to get forward.
-
A mate of mine who's over there has just text me saying it's a terrible game. Mind you, pre-season ones can be can't they.
Can you ask him to strangle the little shit next to Jack.
-
Then move on to Jack.

All I'm getting is garbled noise

So the commentary team are getting better then?
-
I stopped listening, the quality was worse than those old radio reports at away games in Eastern Europe in the early 80's.
-

I thought it might have made you feel a bit nostalgic.
-
Rodinghausen 0-0 Villa - HT: Very even affair between the two teams. Tonev looked lively, Albrighton eager and Delph full of running.
-
Was looking forward to watching this. It's really disappointing.
Wanted to see the new kits being worn and all. :'(
-
Sometimes the club is embarrassingly bad. We are a Premier League team FFS. The best we can manage for our opening pre season friendly is jack fucking woodward on his mobile phone next to some bawling kid after he drove their in a clapped out fucking fiat?
Jesus.
-

Extended highlights on the OS later

Judging how the first half sounded, I don't think they will be extended.

Judging how the first half sounded, I don't think they will be extended.
;D
-
Bowery looks out of his depth against 5th divison opposition. We've played as well as you'd expect for the first game back. Albrighton and Bowery seemed to link quite well but it's daft having Bowery out wide and Albrighton in the middle, as happened a couple of times. Guzan. Made a good save. It's windy. Um, that's it.
Steer, Lowton, Luna, Clark, Okore, Westwood, Weimann, Cupboardy, Gabby, Helenius are all warming up so I guess they'll all come on.
-
Possibly the Benteke news is having a demoralising effect on the players.
-
It's fucking amateur hour again.
-
I stopped listening, the quality was worse than those old radio reports at away games in Eastern Europe in the early 80's.
I thought it might have made you feel a bit nostalgic.
Just saw a picture on Twitter of some in game action with the players in the new kit - it looks like 1982 all over again!
-
What's happened to Jack?

All we need is a crowd of 80,000 all wearing army uniform and the journey back in time is complete.
-
GOAL - HELENIUS
-
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
WE R STAYING UP
-
One nil, Helenius header. Very well taken goal. Must say their keeper doesn't look up to much. Also, I think the players still have the security tags on their shirts...?!
-
Boom, The Gladiator scores.
-
Champions League here we come!
-
We're gonna win the league, we're gonna win the league.
-
A couple of minutes earlier, Gabby gor booked. Very stupid. He pushed a defender over as both were chasing a loose ball.
-
Liquid football
Alan Jack ?
-
Who needs The Judas, we've got Helenius, we've got Helenius.
-
Niklas Helenius near post header from quality Matt Lowton cross.
-
Nicklas Helenius; Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
Probably a better footballer than Russell Crowe, mind.
-
OOoooh Nicklas Helenius, Ooooh he has human ears.
-
I can see Crouchenius, Gabby and Weimann linking up well next season.
-
Rodinghausen 0-1 Villa - 60mins: Lambert's side looking more lively this half. Lowton and Luna bombing forward. Okore solid.
-
Lets park the bus and try and get our first clean sheet of 2013.
-
Luna sounds good.
-
Luna sounds good.
I'm over the moon with him.
-
Lol, no clean sheet :)
-
Bollox!
Free-kick 25 yards out. Soren Siek.
Lambert out!
-
Same old Villa. Championship football next season. We're doomed without Judas.
-
Very good equaliser, from a free kick. Clark had wanted a penner about 20 seconds earlier. From where I was sitting, the ref was right. They went straight up the other end and won a free kick on the edge of our box.
-
Can't believe we aren't winning the most important game of the season so far.
-
It's rotten from the top down.
-
How has Okore looked?
-
Drawing against Germans. Let have penalties.
-
How has Okore looked?
Somebody mentioned earlier that he looked solid.
-
We're still shit at taking corners and attacking free kicks.
-
How has Okore looked?

Just gone off injured.

If we play like this next Christmas we can expect to finish twelvtyeth.

Carruthers gets a chance.

Thats all we need
-
FT: Rodinghausen 1-1 Villa - Good workout for Lambert's men as they build up match fitness levels. Helenius heads home on debut.
-
Game over.
-
Bollocks to this. Lambert, Lerner, Keye and Woodhall OUT.
-
Hope we don't end up needing points at Bochum in the final game. Heh.
-
Typical. We've never replaced Graham Turner and it shows

Where? To Denmark? Did we look that shit?
-
That's a very bad start to the 2013/14 compaign. I don't know where a win is going to come from? Same old Villa and I blame McLeish.

Applauds.

Worrying that Okore went off with injury !

I've just done the BBC predictor and have us finishing 12th in League One.

To be honest, that was dire. There's not many that will come out of that with any credit. On that showing, some of our players would comfortably fit in with a German fifth league, semi pro club.
-
To be fair, they are still full of pizza, hot dogs, beer and ice cream from their holidays.
Well relatively, but for professional footballers they are a long way off their cutting edge. They will get there. It's the point of a pre season, isn't it?
-
I'm sick of making excuses for this shower of shite. Enough is enough.
-
Some of our best seasons have come after crap results in Pre-season, in my memory. And vice-a-versa.

Agree. Shoot the lot.
-
and we still can'tkeep a clean sheet. we should have broke the bank for lescott. Fucking Lambert.
-
A mate of mine who's over there has just text me saying it's a terrible game. Mind you, pre-season ones can be can't they.
It was a terrible game. Things can only get better.
-
I have written a very sternly worded letter to Mr Lambert. I am also sending copies to Mr Faulkner, Mr Lerner, The Pope, Genghis Khan, Fats Domino and Suzi Quatro.
I will be heard after this shambles goddamit!

You know, the more I look at those photos, the more I think Claret shorts with a white stripe up the side like the tops have in blue, would have been a better choice.

Reminder to self. Never arrive at a ground, in the middle of nowhere, 3 hours before kick off when in desperate need of a drink. The promise to let us in at 4 had vanished. 530 was our earliest chance. Once inside, it wasn't too bad. We went in the stand as it was the same price in there as in the away enclosure, which was alongside the pitch opposite with very little in the way of facilities; the bogs being up the road in a school. Those who were in there did their best to drink the makeshift bar dry.

So, shit then ?

Did you do the Guess The Crowd game in your head to relieve the boredom?
I imagine it must have been the lowest turn-out of Villa fans at any game you've travelled to for a fair old time.

7,500 ?

I hope you picked the right address for Mr G Khan as he has moved recently. It's no longer G. Khan , Asia Minor . It's G. Khan, Greater Prussia and District of Rome.

I thought it was funny that when Helenius scored the fans sang his name to the same tune as the Benteke song. The kit looks rather good too.
-
Man up you lot. A point away from home is not a bad result.
Did McLeish punch the air at the end?
-
The mates who have gone over got some cracking photo's with a few of the players and Lambert after the game. Apparantley Okore could'nt understand a word they were saying.
-
This doesnt seem very positive for the club. There is an air of pessimism prevaling over B6 since the news about Benteke broke.
We need something to happen to lift spirits.
God knows what though.
-
I thought it was a nice little run out. Nobody pushed themselves too hard. Except Gabby, who seemed to think it was a Blues match.
Guzan had one shot to save, Herd and Albrighton (he also looked pretty fit) linked up ok on the right, Baker and Vlaar looked solid, Bennett had nowt to do. Tonev looks good. Very tall, with some tricks and an impressive turn of pace. Delph played well, and had a few nice touches. Sylla was ok. Bacuna, a taller Ashley Young, also looked good. Bowery was poor, second to the ball and looked lost.
Second half, a complete change. Steer didn't have much to do and couldn't be faulted for their free kick. Lowton was an auxiliary midfielder, getting forward a lot. Luna also looks good going forward but drew mirth from the fans when he went down clutching his face. Okore didn't impress me. He reminded me of Bryan Small, in that he seems to have no control over his limbs. And they're about the same height! Clark did ok. Westwood looked pretty good, as always. Cupboardy didn't do much, but Gardner tried a few flicks. They didn't come off, but I'm pleased to see him try them. Gabby, Weimann and Helenius linked up well. I can see Helenius slotting in well. Very similar to Crouch, with that same languor.

I imagine it must have been the lowest turn-out of Villa fans at any game you've travelled to for a fair old time.
While locked outside, I counted the seats (roughly) as I knew how many tickets had been sold and wanted to know what chance we stood. It was surprising when a club official sold us two out of his jacket pocket.
I reckon there were about 50 Villa there. Difficult to say how many had travelled from England but there was at least 21 of us. There were 3 German Villans. The remainder were ex pats.
A very strange place. As you stood at the main entrance, behind you were fields, with their crops growing. Cars were parked between these fields on the roadside. There was one little lane called Jerusalem Straße. It was all quite surreal.
-
It was a good trip to a location who clearly weren't expecting us. All the facilities were as described but I have to say any time the Villa want to relocate my seat to the half way line with draft German beer within 2 paces then that will be fine by me!
We didn't play that badly tbf. We kept the ball ok without actually really going for it. Gabby was a bit chubby looking, but other than that nothing stood out good or bad really for me.
-
I thought I'd driven to the wrong place! I go there about 40 minutes before kickoff, there was nobody about and the ground seemed to be in the middle of nowhere!

There were two casks there at the beginning. What was left at the end?
-
Highlights here:
-
What a brilliant free kick for their goal.
Helenius took his very well, too, I thought.
I know this is odd, but it seemed strange seeing Weimann speak German at the end.
-
It was a cracking free kick, wasn't impressed with Steer's positioning for it though.

Re the kit, squint hard enough and you're back in 1982.
