Best InTheKnow-er:
Thread of the Season:
Unsung Hero:
Missing In Action:
Returning Hero:
Please feel free to add or ignore categories. We can tot-up the nominations and maybe, if they're lucky enough, the winners will be offered a lucky-dip into PeterWithesShin's big sack of DVDs.
My votes...
Best Poster: For humour, probably MsHildaSlag. For talking sense on Villa, there's quite a few. I guess Mr Woodhall, (but please, no more "Press" puns for your articles next season), Walnuts and Ozzjim were all particularly even-handed in their arguments most of the time. Special mention to Ads who spear-headed the campaign of those who were confident of staying-up throughout the spring.
Best Newcomer: A contentious one this, as he's been a divisive force to say the least. However, his posts are never less than thought-provoking so I tentatively proffer the nomination of the droid' - Villadroid.
Best InTheKnow-er: Karl Bridges, for no-fuss, casual mentions of stuff he hears from time to time. Respect.
Thread of the Season: For differences in opinion at the start and end of the discussions, the debate on the merits of 'Christian Benteke' and 'Lambert - In/Out/ShakeHimAllAbout?' were amusing. Off-Topic provides an embarassment of conspiracy-filled threads to choose from.
The tv and book recommendation threads deserve high praise for their practical merit.
Unsung Hero: Darren Woolley. Economy of writing is a gift and Daz has it in spades.
Missing In Action: RipVanBentfletch disappeared around the time of our mid-winter horror show. His coarse humour would have been a tonic during those dark days.
Returning Hero: Good to have Chris Smith back on a regular basis.
Thanks to one and all for another year of both wasting my time and helping get me through bouts of boredom and procrastination.

I don't wish to get into the good the bad and the ugly but I'd like to say my thanks to every single person who contributes and posts on the forum and of course the moderators who all combined make this such a great forum to be a member of- ive browsed other clubs forums and they are generally a mess of mixed up threads - this site is the best bar none so my award goes to all of us !!

Have to second that Eastie. This site keeps me going through some pretty dire personal times. That may sound sad but my domestic circumstances are "challenging" and going up the Villa and chatting on this site keep my head above water at times.
-
If we can agree on categories first, we might be able to do something a bit more structured.
For example - decide what the categories are, then we'll open them for (secret) nominations, then we'll put them to the vote for a fixed period.
Might be an idea to do it that way?
Mind you, I haven't checked this with any of the other moderators, so I might be talking myself into trouble.

How about a "Most modest poster" award as well? Can't think who might get that.
-
Dave Woodhall wins all of them. Apart from best moderator. That's me. And best fanzine seller. Oh, that's also me. Talking of fanzine selling, any news on my pay raise Mr Woodhall sir?
-
Wild Optimist of the Year: PWS.

How about a pissed up overseas poster of the year award?

Agreed. Some days I think 'fuck me there's some twats on here', then I discuss something with the real world (football or otherwise) and it really makes me appreciate you lot. I think the best thing is the way we all seem to see through the press so much better than the people I talk to in real life.
May sound like faint praise but it's really not.
-
How about a pissed up overseas poster of the year award?
Bottle of wine, a few brandys and a couple of the pints of black stuff on a Sunday night?
You're right. I'm fucking lightweight compared to Dan the Man. What a wonderfully bad example he gives to us all outside the UK. ******!
-
I will tell you something, reading off topic from time to time has me I stitches.
-
How about a pissed up overseas poster of the year award?
Crowded category.
-

What, you mean Dan in sunny f**king Lanzarote?!
(mind you, it's even sunny here in N Yorks this morning).

Well said, mate.
-
I do by far and away the best '....' on the site...
I love the contributions from everyone on here and, though it sounds stupid, consider almost everyone as a personal friend even though obviously I have met very few of the posters. I have to say the ones I have met at matches such as Frank, Villa Submariner, Lenny The Kad etc have fully confirmed, without exception, my view of what a decent and informed bunch we all are
-
I think we should have “H&V's ray of sunshine award” for the biggest doom merchant and also the “Seattle Villa award” for most positive poster.
-
I think we should have “H&V's ray of sunshine award” for the biggest doom merchant
...
It's needs a more catchy title. Maybe we should call it 'le Rissault'
-
May I suggest the poster who first muted the 19th minute applause be recognized in some way? Apologies if this was part of last seasons awards but as I get older the weeks and months all turn into the same unrecognisable mush.
-

Take a bow PWS (I think).
-
Meanwhile on a Chelsea site (or wine bar) they will be congratulating whoever came up with the idea of applause for a sacked millionaire and who wrote the best sign requesting the new manager goes away.
-
Poster: Darren Wooley - Tells it like it is
Newcomer: Wombat Kombat - Just because I like the name
ITK: Hookeysmith - Although Eastie tries his best
Thread: Small Heath Alliance; The Gift that keeps on Giving - No Bob/Supertom threads for a while, but this one is always good
Unsung Hero: Dave Clark Five - For all of his hard work via Guess the Crowd Leagues and Cups
Missing in Action: Deano's Mullet seems to have disappeared
Returning Hero: Chris Smith back in town
-

Yep, that was Mr Shin
-
Posts that most reflect your own thoughts but say it so much better - Paulie Walnuts would win hands down for me
Villa Submariner and Deano's Mullet have been the two biggest misses for me and it is nice to see Deano back on here recently
Also 'other clubs' best visiting poster' would be a good category - with Davey B a shoe in I would have thought
-
How about a pissed up overseas poster of the year award?
Crowded category.
But Dan still wins it by a distance...
-

PEDANT WARNING: I'm sure you mean 'moot' rather than 'mute' which is almost the opposite in meaning!
... I shouldn't have retired.
-
The 2 posters I miss the most are Fletch and Martin.
Are we allowed to have a most annoying poster of the year award? or would that breach site rules?
-
At least I'd win something if we did.
-
I think the biggest turnaround in outlook award from before Christmas to after Christmas goes to - Ads. That positivity in the last few months kept me going, thanks Ads!
-

Crowded category.

I will accept the award, cheers. Right, off to the pub!

While you're there accepting that award you can take the 'Conspiracy' post award too.
Best thread of the season has to go to Melandro's dog at Villa Park.

Agreed on Davey.
Deano's Mullet seems to reside in VillaMemories these days, pining for the days of Atkinsons junior and senior.
-
I enjoyed the "Horrible Club" thread.
-
Despite his over eagerness in the Off Topic thread sometimes, i quite like Dan, his rants can be entertaining.
There's the likes of Chris Smith (who it's great to have back), Dave W and Concrete John who bring the much needed common sense.
My two awards though go to Ad's for his unwavering optimisim towards the end of last season and Damon for his unwavering silliness.
Oh and Darren is great.
-
I think I'll take the award for massive hyperbole over the top reaction in the match thread, to gradually calming down once the post match thread is about 5 pages long.
-
May I suggest the poster who first muted the 19th minute applause be recognized in some way? Apologies if this was part of last seasons awards but as I get older the weeks and months all turn into the same unrecognisable mush.
Seconded. Thanks PWS
-
Yes, it was PWS behind the idea.
-
I demand we make up an award that I can win.

Oh gosh I haven't prepared a speech...
-
Chipsticks definitely gets Young Poster of the Season award. Has shown maturity far beyond his 18 years. We just pray he doesn't go the way of JLloyd Samuel and Michael Johnson.
-
My positive outlook bordered and religious fanaticism.
-
Thank you kindly folks, Legion was a massive help in spreading the word, as was everyone both from here and other sites etc who bombarded Twitter, FB etc. I like to think we all did Stan proud.
-
My positive outlook bordered and religious fanaticism.
I started to wonder if we few were mad who stayed positive all season.
-
I claim the Nostradamus award for mentioning scoring half a dozen a few hours before the Sunderland game.
I also claim superstition of the year with the magical fish pie.
-
I also nominate Stuart for the Scout of the Year award for his early views on Benteke.
-

Fish Pie sounds absolutley revolting. You deserve an award for eating it.
-
Davey is up for another award, the Get A Room Award he'll share with Eastie.
PWS comes a close second with his blatant flirtations with one of the Top Cat Sisters.
Third place goes to Paulie for wowing Nick with his love and admiration of some hippy music.

Admiral's Pie is lovely.

Does wishing Happy Birthday count as flirting? Times have changed since I was a youngster.

Oh and Rudy gets the award for championing the cause of Chris Herd ;)

I'll share it with the very wise Mister E.

I have no intention to play in Iran or slip into obesity, so I hope I can fulfil your expectations.
Mind you, the Man City fanzine's offered me a load of money to go post over there/
-
I also nominate Stuart for the Scout of the Year award for his early views on Benteke.
Yes that was proved pretty spectacularly wrong.
-
The greatest loss of a thread award goes to - The original 'what's the latest film you've seen and was it any good', a lot of good discussion was lost with that.

A part of me died that day (my post count)

Can't believe all my fantastic horror reviews were lost forever. RIP original film thread.
-
Perry for his love of Gabby.
-

I claim the Nostradamus and the "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs" award for my performance during the Arsenal vs Wigan game. Calmly predicted 4-1 to Arsenal and that Wigan woud tire and get battered.
-

Always thought you were very discerning Rudy.

This.
I used to love reading back over that thread.
-
Regarding the post of the year it had to be the wonderful tale of Brian green when he said he was fannied up by doug Ellis - I think doug was looking for some business deal but the phrase brian used was just superb!

I am having the prize for selflessly saving Villa through switching off for the final 20 minutes from West Ham onwards then.

Yeah...of the bright young things of 2004, Matt G and Olof's Beard have successfully left behind their H&V addiction and are seemingly now functioning members of society. OneIanTaylor showed signs of succumbing to the forum's long-term addictive powers but he managed to flee. Ourselves, SoccerHQ (after a ropey debut) got left behind, now stuck sadly in a H&V youth-sucking vortex. Chipsticks, you have been forewarned.
-
Where's my award you bunch of bastards?
-
Where's my award you bunch of bastards?
Your loyalty to tamworth and villa earns you the title of double timer of the year , dave ;)
-
Don't give him an award. All he does is flog the mag now and again. The big fat Tamworth following tart.
Now then, what about an award for a regular mag contributor who posts here prodigiously award (Frank, I have told you a hundred times, fuck of will ya....).
-
I claim the Nostradamus award for mentioning scoring half a dozen a few hours before the Sunderland game.

Two awards each. Not a bad season. ;D
I will accept the Conspiracy Thread Award. Right ,off to the pub again to talk to my good mate David Icke.

I still don't understand that one either.
Anyway, how you dooiiiiiin?
-
Perry for his love of Gabby.
Do you mean me? Only I've never won anything before.
It's been a hard slog sticking up for the Gabster these last seven years, but it's worth it at times.
-
Where's my award you bunch of bastards?
I would pay to read your missives Mr Cooper but I get to read them free here. Specially the retorts that hit us 'amateur posters" right smack bang in the forehead leaving us totally flummoxed!
-
Where's my award you bunch of bastards?
Somebody broke it.
-
I claim the award for Mr Nice, as I never argue with anybody. Alternatively; I'll readily accept the award for "sitting on the fence and not getting involved".
-
You're all characters that make this place what it is. And I hate every single one of you for it.
-
Bless your barnacles.
-
You're all characters that make this place what it is. And I hate every single one of you for it.
FFS. Grow up!
-
I must admit to being a little bit disappointed not to get an honourable mention from Paulie for my revelations of childhood phobias that seemed to highly amuse him on the Deathwatch thread.

While we're on the subject does my optimistic pro-Lambert piece from last February/March not even get a runner-up award?! I can't remember what thread it was but a lot of you were quite taken with it at the time.
