This has to be the most obvious home banker of all time - we are completely shot with very little alternatives available to take some of these lads out of the firing line.

So 1-2 then - Bent 2.

As much as I love the FA Cup. It may be a distraction we can't afford. Play those that need a game for fitness and give some of the reserves a go.

Play the reserves, get beat, take it and move on. It is a Friday night game so won't attract that much attention anyway and could hardly be called a shock result!

03:45 on a Saturday morning? Right now there's no way in hell I'd get up for that after the second half last night. I know when Friday comes however, all will change.

Through thick and the very thin. Although, I agree it would be nice to mix the team up a bit - some of those performances last night don't deserve a start. Give Carruthers a go, always on the bench and no harm in giving him an opportunity. Be great to see at least 1 new body in as well.... Even if its just to give us all some hope.

Time to make up for it Villa, win against Millwall and Newcastle and we can move on from last night. To all those making the trip; enjoy your Friday night in London, make plenty of noise, keep warm and give 'em hell.

I couldn't care less about this cup...head says hope we exit early so we can focus on staying up. But the heart will never want Villa to lose, no matter what.

Win and we can at least bounce back a bit ready for the Newcastle game. Lose and I dread to think what it will do to our already shot confidence...

100% votes for the opposition - never ever seen that before even when Villa have played the likes of Man Utd, Ajax  etc etc. It does feel inevitable though doesnt it, more humilation in front of a national audience on a FRIDAY night FFS thanks to the television companies. I heartiily commend anyone going to this game because that team and the club in general certainly are not worthy of your support.  At least if Bradford or Swansea do win the cup it will be someone different because with the usual gloryhunter teams gobbling everything else up football has gotten frigging boring and Villa's complete decline certainly isnt going to make me revive my own interest. I voted for Millwall by the way. They'll probably win 3-4 corners and score from everyone of them.

If we decide we want to play the opposition in the second half, unlike in the last two games, well then I think we will have too much for them.

Last night was the lowest point in all my years supporting Villa, if the players have pride in the jersey they wear (and that is a big "if") the shame of last night's result should spur them on a bit.

A loss, we will score early again and they will score from two corners late in the game.

Funnily enough I think it is the perfect game for Lambert. He has a few days to rethink his "plan" and give something a try on Friday night. Preferably with Bent up front and some width. A win, good performance and a few goals from Bent in a different system might see us go into Newcastle game with some confidence.

It's a free game for PL. We're not going to win this competition at this rate, so in a way the pressure is off before it is very much back on the week after.

I understand it was moved by the Met due to a demo on Saturday at a local hospital facing closure, which is far, far more important.  It moved after the TV games were annouced, to I also understand from another H&V post somewhere that The FA are streaming it gratis on their website.

Doubt he will do it, but if he's going to stay then Lambert has got to wipe the slate clean and this game is the perfect opportunity to do so.  I really didn't think I would be saying it this season, but bring Hutton and Warnock back in and play Dunne if he is anywhere near being fit enough.  Whichever way you look at it the midfield is a mess, so I would just go back to a basic 4-4-2 with the following team:

                              Given

Hutton -----   Vlaar ------ Dunne ----- Warnock

Holman ----- Westwood ---- Delph ---- Bennett

Not a chance, It'll be 4 defenders 2 midfield and 4 up front. He'll wonder why we are getting over run in Midfield and losing 1-0 so he will take off a midfielder and put another striker on. We will have no midfield so lump the ball up, then wonder why their 4 midfielders keep picking up the lose ball and calmly play their way out of trouble

if I was the Millwall coach/manager I would be practising the fuck out of dead-ball situations.

UTV

Will do

could not give a shit about this game even if I tried. any wish of wanting to succeed in a cup seems diminished. only league games matter now.

                            Given

Lichaj -----  Vlaar -----  Williams ----- Stephens

Carruthers ---- Holman ---- Westwood ---- Bennett

                Weimann -----  Bent

Subs:
Guzan
Clark (consider giving both him and Vlaar a half each to keep them fresh for Newcastle)
Delph, Ireland, Bannan, Agbonlahor, N'Zogbia

Why would you want to play a left back at centre half?

Derrick can do a job there if that's what you're worried about.

The reason why the game has been put forward to Friday night is that there is a protest against the closure of Lewisham Hospital happening on the Saturday afternoon.

I cannot honestly say I've ever been happier to see a Villa game moved.

Going to try to get to both.

Where is everyone meeting before and after for the game. Is there an away fans pub in the area?

All of us on here will be willing them on come Friday, it's what we do and it's not something you can switch on and off.

Yes we moan, yes we declare we hate them (I stated last night quite categorically that I'm finished with them), but ultimately come match day we'll all be rooting for the claret and blue.

Has anyone ever tried, for 5 minutes to support a different team. It is physically impossible. I don't know how people do it. I get about 15 seconds in before thinking about the Villa again!

Anyhow...

Friday.

Guzan in nets, no fecking about with the line hogger

Lichaj - Lowton needs a rest
Dunne - 90 minutes before Newcastle would be useful
Vlaar - Needs fitness too
Clark - run out at left back as an experiment.

Holman - right mid, giving width.
Westwood - Should be fresh
Johnson - Delph is carrying a knock, and Bannan is at best shiny gold shite at the moment
Bennett - the kid is a left winger in the making, best crosser at the club and can beat a man

Bent - 90 minutes will do him good
Weimann - For obvious reasons - he scores goals and is a good player

Benteke, Gabby, Delph, Lowton, NZogbia, Given, Williams on the bench, but hopefully sparsely used. Win would be nice, but getting the others to Newcastle rested more important for me.

Warnock, Dunne, Vlaar and Hutton to play has been suggested by someone earlier. This is the game for that but I am sure there are reasons, valid or otherwise, why this will not happen.

The atmosphere is set to be electric. Snap your tickets up now to be a part of it.

Snap my ticket up please. Anyone?

Own goal.

I'll be there. And we'll win.

Spent all day sulking but I've picked myself up and am ready to go again.

Anyone who suggests we should throw this or not give it our best shot can f*** off.
The ONLY way the players can make up for last night to us and themselves is by getting the famous name of ASTON VILLA back on this trophy in May.

@TimothyAbraham: Change of plan at Bodymoor Heath. Ron Vlaar has been stood down and the manager will take today's press conference after all. #AVFC

A quick poll at half-time on Tuesday of the regular away-goers around me, revealed that none of us are going. Therefore, only taking around 1000 is no surprise.

What is our "weakened" team ? Based on recent weeks, its probably basically the team that's been playing

However, assuming that we're not bothered about the result. How about..............

Given

Lihaj
Clark
Williams
Stevens

Carruthers
Bannan
Ireland
Johnson

Burke
Bent

There used to be the Golden Lion (now flats) the Barnaby (closed) the Bramcote Arms (good place to buy a shooter) and the Canterbury Arms (now an African restaurant). There aren't really any pubs near the ground. It's no loss, they were all shite. The Shipwrights Arms by London bridge used to be a proper hard core gay pub. It's not any more.

It's not hard core gay or not gay? Just asking, like.

Millwall 1 - 2 Villa is my prediction. Hardly any pressure on us now as no- one seems to give a fuck about this match after Bradford, or expects us to win it.

Not sure I deserve a medal considering I will just be taking the 21 bus straight from my house. Then again, I am having to venture south of the river, so maybe I do?

We don't deserve a medal but probably need our heads examined.

Anyway, I'm going for us to win 2-1 but I think it'll be a nail bitting finish (nothing new there).

6-0 Millwall.
Remember, we are on a 2 match unbeaten run.
Can see it stretching to 3  but only if we manage to avoid ANY BLOODY CORNERS!
Worst part is, for the first time since the 1980's, I don't even care

Lets see, we will play them off the park in the first half and go in at half time leading 1-0 having missed a hatful of chances. We will come out in the second half and do what we always do,sit back and let Millwall back in .One of full backs will concede a needless corner and well you know the rest. 1-1 and a replay

The meeja are creaming themselves at the spectacle of our death and every nail in the coffin is greated with relish. They want us to lose this one and they want Newcastle to beat us on Tuesday and keep asking Lambert when he's going to get sacked over and over again.

This match seems the most low key Villa game for absolutely ages.

Given all the other bilge going on re transfers, Bradford, relegation etc, this one seems to have slipped under the radar.

A comfortable win, please, let's get a bit of confidence back. We saw some swagger in the first half at Albion, and despite going out, we looked totally in control for the first half on Tuesday.

We just ("just") need to do it for closer to 90 mins rather than 45.

Time to slump down in your chair and look bored....It's Lawro time.

Millwall will be rubbing their hands because this is a good time to play Aston Villa on the back of their exit to League Two side Bradford in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

A trip to The Den is not what Villa boss Paul Lambert needs after his side's Capital One Cup exit

Villa's confidence will be low and they are conceding goals all over the place. It is only going to get worse for them at The Den too and I am going for a Millwall win.

I was at Villa Park this week to see Paul Lambert's side play the Bantams. Everyone is making a big deal about his young players but he has got experience in that side.

And, in all honesty, people like Charles N'Zogbia, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Stephen Ireland and, to a certain extent, Fabian Delph need to look at their performances. They are all on good money and are the Villa fans getting value for money from those four? Definitely not.

The other thing that I noticed with Villa is that they are very narrow. That is one of the reasons Bradford looked so comfortable in the second half at Villa, and that needs to be addressed.

Lawro's prediction: 2-1

I will have 'surgery' if we lose.

`Surgery' involves having your scrotum slit, and your testicles popped out and sucked.

Are you still up for it?

Does anyone know the definite procedure for Villa fans wishing to go to the game tonight without a ticket?

Speaking to the Villa ticket office, 200 odd tickets will be available on the away turnstiles.  However, some are saying that they are only available from the main ticket office?  I don't know the ground or area at all.  How far is the main ticket office from the away end?

I am a coward of the county and don't particularly fancy trawling from the sanctuary of the away end to the ticket office.

There are some good pubs at new cross. The one right over the road from the station that serves the wychwood brewery beers is ok. The rose of lee on new cross way was also ok when I lived there a few years  back. New cross is a bit of a student area with goldsmiths uni right there too. Some days you could be in that area and not even know a game would be on for Millwall as they get such small crowds. The new cross Venue for a dodgy tribute band later on. I've seen no way sis and beat surrender (jam) there before.

I wish I wasn't going.

I know how you feel, if we are 3 down at half time i may switch to big brothers final - bleak times indeed.

None of the links will have the game.

As much as I hate saying this about the FA Cup, suspect this one falls down to the bottom of the list of priorities now and may be used as an opportunity to do what small amounts of squad rotation we can - Benteke, N'Zogbia, Delph perhaps.

We'll then go and nick it 1-0 because it is most definitely, without doubt, our year.

Of course, but we do have similar quality in reserve, Bent or Weimann in for Benteke, Holman in for N'Zogbia and Westwood in for Delph does not particularly weaken us imo, neither would bringing in Lichaj and Stevens for Lowton and Bennett.

1 nil, Bannan.

I'm doing the, 'Believe 6 impossible things before breakfast'. And the next breakfast is Saturday! So win-win!*
Come on Villa, we can do it. We won on tuesday. Just carry on!
Glad to see young Bennett in the side, he's a little tall cracker! Equally glad to see Andi W is starting, we need goals and he gets 'em. Westwood is back, so we have a midfield. The whole team are welcome to go do that voodoo that they do so well...UTV!

*impossible according to everybody including the media except those of us on here who voted 'win'.
