Available Tuesday evening.
-
i guess that the site went into melt down
-
Well done lads, with fans like ours you can't go wrong.
-
Wemberlee!! Fantastic result.
No one can doubt the power of the pie any more!
-
What a win.
-
Jolly good.
-
Delighted with the team performance and listening to our fans. Nice work Lambert
-
Well that is brilliant, hopefully that'll provide some confidence for the side before our next few games. We really needed to prove to ourselves we could score some goals.
-
Get in Villa. Get in. Loving it, Weimann coming on sounds to be a blessing. Interesting what side we start at the weekend, but fair play to Lambert, he got big reactions from some of the players left out in a huge game. The 3-5-2 seems to be settling too, interesting 2 formations being bedded in well. So pleased for the team tonight.
-
Wem ber lee,Wem ber lee.....
-
Marvellous. Any links to the goals please?
-
Fabulous result. Well done, Villa.
-
Middlesbrough or Bradford in the semi's please
-
Unable to get on here for ages. Working in a freezing cold Richmond upon Thames this week and got back from dinner with work colleagues to see it was 1-1. Been listening in via my iphone to R5 and absolutely thrilled particularly as I predicted we would lose 3-0. Are the goals on anywhere later folks?
-
Only followed the game on the net, but fantastic result. Sounds like an amazing game! Lambert likes to reward good performances so I wonder if delph, KEA or Weimann have played themselves in tonight? Or Holman tired himself out!
-
Wish we could score like that in the league!
-
Never have been so excited following text commentry on BBC Sport through a Blackberry. Great night's work.
-
WE'RE THE FAMOUS ASTON VILLA AND WE'RE GOING TO WEMBERLEE, WEMBERLEE, WEMBERLEEEE ;D
-

I'd have Guzan, Vlaar and Westwood back in the side at the weekend, but I'm hoping that performance will spread confidence throughout the entire squad.
-
ooohhh Betty, I did a whoopsy in the garden
-
I feel like a man who thought a cat had done it's business on his pie but it turned out to be an extra big blackberry.
-
Wem ber lee,Wem ber lee.....
This x1,000
Wemberleee, wemberleeee!!!!!!!!!
Ain't been this excited in almost three years, since the 6-4!
Get ta fooook in!!!!!!!
-
Now need to get a result at the weekend to take some pressure off! Same TEAM except Weimann for Bent (if injured).
-
Never doubted it. *cough*
Brilliant, brilliant. All coming together ain't it. Well done lads and the fans, and Lambert.
-
That's how to feel better after a fortnight plus of one bug or another! (Maybe a bug got the site as well!)
WELL DONE VILLA!
JUST ACE!
-
The confidence that is ebbing through that team now, they beat the inform team on thier patch, having gone a goal down and then fucked them up the tractor
-
All hail the match winner.

-
Stephen Fry, Delia Smith, Alan Partridge, Bernard Mathews, your boys took a hell of a beating ;)
-
The semi final draw is tomorrow night yes?
-
Fantastic result, had to switch 5 Live Xtra off after the score went 2-1 due to nerves, couldn't believe it when my lad comes down the stairs minutes later holding four fingers in the air. A great chance for LAMBERT to take us to Wemberley in his first season too. We just have to take this performance into the 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' game at the weekend, 24 hrs for the boys to put their feet up then back to work Thursday in prep for that game, bring it on.
-
cracking result, great confidence boost

I feel like a man who thought a cat had done it's business on his pie but it turned out to be an extra big blackberry.
Not good if its a steak pie.
-
Keep it yourselves, but are we slowly finding some form? UTV.
-
Jurassic Park.
-
I thought there were some overly pessimistic predictions and posts about our scoring prowess. We still haven't scored less than three in a Cup game this seaason.
-
Unbelievable! Just read the results on the train home; proud as punch, and the locals here in Leeds didn't really get my stupid grin!
-
An early Christmas present - thanks Villa!
-
I never dreamt of that result before the game!
-
Awesome stuff!
But is it too much to ask to score some of these cup goals in the league aswell?
-
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS LOVE THE VILLA
-
When is the draw? Tomorrow after the Swansea v Middlesbrough game, or on the 19th after Leeds v Chelsea?
-
Jurassic Park.
Kiss my face.
-
Fantastic result. Scoring goals for fun away from home in the cup, wish we could do it in the league.
-
smell my cheese, oh what a great result... i'm chuffed for PL.
-
Who is going to send Delia the PIE
-
Get in there what a result really proud of you lads well done.
-
Great goals.
-
Huge huge night for the club. It's great to know that sooner or later we are going to win something again.
We are back.
-
Description of Bentekes goal on SKY
Honestly, that is one of the best goals I have seen this season. Villa pass the ball fifteen or sixteen times before working it to the edge of the area and allowing Benteke to strike. It makes you wonder how Villa are struggling
-
Unexpected result for sure.
We need to carry over that form and confidence against the bin dippers on Saturday.
-
We'll have to wait for the highlights but really looking forward to seeing those goals!
-
Bloody brilliant, we always seem to play better when we're expected to lose. Not saying Stoke was the worst performance ever but it was pretty toothless, then tonight, we were excellent by all accounts. Are we just better suited to counter attack?
Are we really back on track? Or is this just a very welcome distraction?
Weimann must be the unluckiest bloke in the squad, he's probably the most natural goalscorer we have at the club, not sure why he was dropped.
Slightly concerned that the likes of Benteke are playing every minute of every game but hard to take him out at the moment!
Also a shame we've got Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs coming up - I guess our rollercoaster season continues! UTV!
-
a semi-final , How grand.

That is excellent to hear, and exactly what we're working towards.
-
Maybe Weimann and Benteke is the partnership everyone wanted Bent and Benteke to be?
-
That is one hell of a result against a side unbeaten in 10 games, having won 6 of them and no doubt a team pumped up with fans against a former manager. I am definitely seeing green shoots of recovery.
-
Just the saw the goals on SSN,four quality goals,Weimann has the makings of a top draw finisher.
-
We hold the record for most Semi-Final appearances in the League Cup, correct?
-
Brilliant night for the club! We're the famous Aston Villa and we're going to Wembley. I just cannot wait for the Semi-Final leg at a rocking sold out Villa Park under the floodlights.
-
Well done Andi Weimann, he's looked very good in parts this season, and he can certainly finish.
-
C'mon Bradford!
-
I had to follow the BBC website but I had a good feeling when the match thread went into meltdown!
-
I want to lay this ghost to rest. Villa isn't just a club. Villa is an Attitude.
-
We hold the record for most Semi-Final appearances in the League Cup, correct?
Not sure, but I'd like to make clear that I'm Captain Chuffed of Chuffington about getting to this one!
-
I love semi's
-

Well done Andi Weimann, he's looked very good in parts this season, and he can certainly finish.
yep not a natural footballer, has a heavy touch, but a good instinct to get in the right place at the right time
-
After that performance this evening, is there anyone that, even amidst all the gloom of the league, can not see some very promising green shoots?
-
Said at work today, we actually a side that improving and soon we would give a good side a proper beating , tonight we did it
Well done, really think Lambert could be building something special
-
Maybe Weimann and Benteke is the partnership everyone wanted Bent and Benteke to be?
By the sounds of it, Bent and Benteke was going to be that before the injury. Still, you have to say Weimann really took his chance.
-
Penaties at Bradford. Come on Bradford
-
Well done Andi Weimann, he's looked very good in parts this season, and he can certainly finish.
Looks like a natural up front, rather less so as an attacking wideman. He seems to work well with Benteke, too.
-

How people can't is beyond me. Lambert has bought in some cracking players.

Hurray! Me too!

Any highligts on later or a link to the goals?!
-
I love semi's
Me too. I've had one since Weimann's second goal went in.
-
Ruddy hell. It's Soft Cell.
-
When is the draw? Tomorrow after the Swansea v Middlesbrough game, or on the 19th after Leeds v Chelsea?
Next week according to this.

Great performance and result, and very good commentary on 5Live, supplemented by match thread on here until it went into meltdown.
Gutted I missed the game. Including Burton away I've been to ten aways this season, and seen us score just nine goals; The two I've missed, Man City and Norwich, we've scored eight! At least my two sons were there and have had a great time. The fans sounded incredibly loud on the radio; well done to you all and safe journeys home.
-
Bloodyfuckinhell !!!!!
-
Im sticking to the radio. 11 goals listening to the radio.
-
OK who has been messing with Wikipedia ?
Check Top assists towards bottom of page. ;D

Weimann has been outstanding this season, especially tonight and in the Man Utd game. His only real problem so far has been consistency, and I feel much more confident with him in the starting XI than Bent.

PMSL at Arsenal
-
Definite green shoots but we need to make sure we start picking up league wins so as to not get sucked back in down there.
2012 was probably one of our worst ever calendar years. I have a REALLY good feeling that 2013 will be good to the club. Guaranteed at the minimum a semi-final appearance and the strong possibility that this young team will grow and grow and finish strongly thus setting us up for a strong advance next season.
*hope*
-
Stephen Fry, Delia Smith, Alan Partridge, Bernard Mathews, your boys took a hell of a beating ;)
Bernard Matthews - your boys were well and truely stuffed.
Bootifull !

Apart from Tranmere.

Fucking brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woooooo Hoooooo!!!!!
I think I am losing the run of myself!!!
-
Congratulations go to Bradford aswell tonight!
-
Bradford City will play..........
............Aston Villa
Pleeeeaaase!!!
-
Chelsea only big team left in this cup.
Villa?
-
Don't think anyone can fail to see the potential. Some excellent young signings who if they progress like we feel they will, we'll have a cracking side.
The problem is, every time we look to have turned the corner, we play shite against the likes of Reading and Stoke.
Conversely, every time we look like we're a shite team, we put in a top performance like tonight.
-
And Cheltenham earned a home tie against Everton!
Great night, can't wait to see the highlights.
-
Chelsea only big team left in this cup.
Hopefully Leeds do us a favor next week!
-
I would love it if we got Bradford. Come on, footballing gods align and don't give us Chelsea please god.
-
McNamara on the radio comm said at the end that Villa had done well against lower-league sides in this competition but this was the first impressive result. Er, Man City away? In fact, each fucking round away since the opening one so we're due a soft draw if anything next.
-
Chelsea only big team left in this cup.
Oh God no, not them. Maybe third time lucky for us if we do get them?
-
Chelsea only big team left in this cup.
Decent team you mean? they will never ever be a big team in my book!
-
I can't remember enjoying an evening of football without pictures as much as this one! UTV!
-
Cracking result, and sounds like a great performance from the boy Weimann. Can't wait to see the goals.
-
Leeds Bradford would be quite tasty...
-
Chelsea only big team left in this cup.
Well, them and us, of course!
-
Well done me Villa babbies..a large scotch is called for ;D
-
I don't want Bradford! Horrible flashbacks to Doncaster. I'd rather we had someone average, who won't have a partisan crowd when we go their place, so I'm angling for Middlesbrough.
-
Villa v Leeds would be a great tie at VP. Rocking.

Alan Green was asked on 5 live whether there was a chance of an upset at Bradford tonight. Absolutely no chance or words to that effect he said. You were saying Mr Green? Plonker.
Get in Villa, I've got a good feeling about this competition now.
-
Great result and four very good finishes. I love the way Weimann uses the pace of the ball and places it with power. I'd like to see him start more often, especially at home. We seem to be saving our best performances for this competition.
-
that was a lot of missed penalties! it was like watching england, except that i was happy at the end!
-
thing is, if Chelsea go out. Who's the ref going to support in the Final?

I have horrible memories of Boro in a semi final, even if it was just the ZDS or whatever it was calling itself.
-

chelsea will get Bradford. you know it

Or a repeat of final when Savo scored!

Risso?

A repeat of the 96 final would be good....with the same outcome of course.

Get in Villa, I've got a good feeling about this competition now.
In fairness according to the stats Arsenal had about 30 shots. Doesn't make it any less amusing mind.
-
Aston Villa striker Andreas Weimann tweets: "Buzzing. Through to semis! Fans were unbelievable tonight! Up the Villa."

Anyone know if the cup highlights on on tv? I can't see MotD anywhere on the tv planner. Sounds like a great game by all accounts tonight. Good to see villa putting some goals in.

How dare Bradford not roll over and give up, oh yea Arsenal ain't a Sky 4 club at the moment....
I agree funny as feck, can't wait to see Arsehole Whinger pulling Frogs out of his arse...
-
all four goals were great, fuckin get in villa
-
I can't remember enjoying an evening of football without pictures as much as this one! UTV!
Almost felt like going back to the 70's/80's.Akin to watching the game on Ceefax, and listening to Tony Butler in the background. Where was the trumpet.

Tomorrow night on ITV I Believe.

The dark days of TSM are slowly fading away...
-
A most enjoyable night of football, gotta be impressed with our travelling supporters....
-
The dark days of TSM are slowly fading away...
Shudder
-
Some Leeds supporters on the train home from the Stoke game told me they hoped we would win fuck all. I told them I hope we could completely outplay them in a cup final again! It's in the stars I tells ya.
-
I think we're genuinely the second best team in this now. I'd fancy us against Swansea.
-

Stitch that ya bastids.

I'm not into Twitter, but according to Da Beeb, Weimann's tweeted this: Buzzing ...through to semis ! Fans were unbelievable tonight !! #utv

You see that is what is great about him, not that he scored 2 goals but the fans good on him true Villa man
-
Great night tonight. Never a win was so deserved. Really pleased that my prediction on the day of the draw was proved right and another midweek in East Anglia and another 4-1 win. This is getting to be a habit!
Easy draw. See no reason why we wouldn't win. Planning fr semi final now.
It will be my first visit to Norwich since the 4-1 midweek win in the second division in 1975. Gidman, McDonald, Leonard, Carrodus scoring. Looking forward to it.

No idea as I don't have Sky but i'm sure the stats I saw on the Beeb site had them with something like about 30 shots, 65% possession and about a dozen on target. Which makes them losing even funnier as they dominated against a Division 4 club and still couldn't win.
-
I love it when Villa not only prove me wrong, but shove my negativity right down my throat. Well done lads.
-
Just thinking about the SSN pre match interviews with the tractor shagging retards, oi think eee moybe be gettin sum stick as e joined them Villa an luk at where they am now. aya gotaloitboy
-
Where can I see these goals online? Been down in the smoke all day.
-
Never mention TSM in times of joy. It's just not right.
-
We tend to knock off a couple of League Cup triumphs in quick succession every twenty years or so. Here's hoping that 2013 and 2015 are going to keep that sequence going.
-
Goals coming up on SSN.
-
4 very good goals.
-
Yeah Weimann excellent first time finishes
-
Would just like to say I like Andi Weimman's chant to Just Can't Get Enough. There will be more ups and downs for Villa this season but this is a fantastic Up so let's enjoy it.
-
Would rather play Chelsea over two legs (they'll have too much for Leeds) as their record in finals at the new Wembley is utterly superb and I think their big match mentality would take hold. Two legs, well we've turned them over or drawn quite a few times in the league over the past few years.
Bradford. Even after tonight, I really couldn't see how they'd beat us over two legs.
Swansea or Boro. Swansea probably the dark horses if they can get past Boro, we beat them reasonably comfortably at the start of the season but they've been improving since then and aside from the Norwich game, they look in good nick defensively again which could be crucial over two legs or indeed a one off final. The wide space at Wembley could also suit their game.
-

Good call; those are the next two years in the sequence 75, 77, 94, 96. I hope you're right.
-
Who was it who played the ball through for Bent in that one on one with the keeper that SSN are showing?
Was it KEA? It was a magnificent ball, whoever it was.
-

Holman, if it was the one very early in the game.
-
Tonight is why i love Aston Villa. If Lambert had any niggling doubts about how he was progressing with our team. Tonight will give him an extra lift. "young and hungry" is the way forward and add some more quality from our scouting system in January and we are on the way to being a great force again ....... UTV !!!!!!!!!!
-
Agree that I would rather face Chelsea over two legs.
-
I'd rather not face them at all!
(I know what you meant though)
-
SSN are also showing a rather terrific save by Given. The goals look terrific and Bent was unlucky. It seems that Villa had 17 shots (11 on target) compared to 9 (4?) by Norwich so well done all round. The 'edge' that was missing appears to have been found!
-
Paul Lambert hailed super sub Andreas Weimann after his match-winning contribution in the stunning Capital One Cup quarter-final win at Norwich.
Lambert opted to rest Weimann for Villa's previous two matches but the decision to bring him on for the injured Darren Bent paid dividends at Carrow Road.
Two second-half strikes from the Austrian pushed Villa towards the semi-finals and Lambert was quick to praise his incredible hunger for the game.
"He was brilliant," said the Villa boss. "One thing about Andi is he is a natural finisher and his work ethic for the game of football is absolutely brilliant.
"If Andi was getting X amount of money, you'd get the same out of him in every game.
"That is a testament to him. I left him out just to give him a rest in the last couple of weeks but Weimann is a natural goalscorer.
"He ran himself into the ground, especially in the two Manchester games and the Arsenal game, but he came back tonight and he certainly knows where the goal is."
Lambert felt the 4-1 victory was a fitting reward for some encouraging performances over the past six weeks.
He was also thrilled for the "ferocious" claret and blue faithful who descended on East Anglia in their droves to help roar Villa into the last four.
"I thought in the whole game we were excellent," he added.
"Their goalkeeper made some terrific saves. Norwich had chances as well.
"But I thought the lads were excellent. We've been playing like that since the Sunderland game.
"We've been playing really, really well and not had the results we might have had. I'm delighted for the team, I really am.
"A massive thanks to the Villa fans too. I thought tonight they were unbelievable - they did ferociously well in their support.
"It was a three-hour journey to come down and I thought they were absolutely fantastic for us."
The only disappointing note for Villa was the first-half injury to Darren Bent, who left the field with a hamstring problem.
Lambert had been pleased with the England striker's efforts up until his departure.
"I thought Darren was looking pretty sharp," the manager added.
"It was just a blow for us. I don't know how bad it is but he was hurt. It is just a thing we have to contend with next week."
-
Great result, get in there!
Well done lads!
-
give us the second leg at VP and I dont care.
it will obviously not be the same as that famous victory against the Charlton Law Crerand Kidd Stiles et al
The greatest night at VP in living memory
-
As Nicole Scherzinger might put it; that was absobloodylutely Jahmazing!
Great win and feeling particularly pleased with myself for backing us at 9/1 this morning to win the Capital One Cup!
Middlesbrough, Leeds or Bradford over two legs will do me in the semis!
-
What a fantastic result. Listened to it on the radio and our support sounded tremendous all night.
Delighted that the effort our fans showed supporting the boys was rewarded by a great night.
The comment below has been copied from a Norwich fan on their forum.
When has the atmosphere at carrow road ever been electric? Fair play to the villa fans, they deserved that result for their support tonight.
-
Great result! very happy with the way the team are starting to gel, i can see some big things coming in the next few months, years ahead!
-
Norwich fans saying it's not the end of the world as they can do without all the extra games so as they can concentrate on the league. They do realise those extra games would have been 2 semi-finals and possibly a final don't they? Bring on those type of extra games as often as possible please Villa.
-

Concentrate on the league? What, finish 9th instead of 11th? Quite odd, they won't be relegated and they're hardly going to trouble 4th.....

Chris Hughton is adamant tonight’s painful 4-1 Capital One Cup quarter-final exit to Aston Villa will not derail Norwich City’s Premier League survival bid.
The Canaries’ saw their Wembley dreams crushed by Paul Lambert on his first return to his old club, but Hughton is confident his dejected players will get back on track against Wigan at Carrow Road this weekend.
Steve Morison’s early opener was cancelled out by Brett Holman before Andreas Weimann’s late brace and Christian Benteke’s stoppage time strike ruthlessly ended City’s 10-game unbeaten run.
“We have a group of lads who have been through it before,” said Hughton. “We are not going to win every game at this club and fortunately for us we had been on a great run. At some stage that was going to end. They are good enough professionals. They know we have to be better at the weekend and they also know there is a real good opportunity at home to put things right. The players are down and disappointed because it was a semi-final at stake. The changing room is down but what we mustn’t do is take away what they have achieved in the last couple of months and how good the team have been. It is my responsibility to make sure we get back on track.”
Hughton was magnanimous in his praise for Lambert’s young outfit.
“I can’t fault the endeavours but we have to take it on the chin,” he said. “We knew that everything for us is this season is going to be a challenge. We have probably surprised a few people with the run we have had. It is important the players now get some rest and go again. It is not as if we were playing a poor team tonight. They were also in good form, they are young and energetic. They are a decent Premier League team and although we were at home we have probably been beaten by the better team.
“Did we want to go through? Yes, absolutely we wanted to go through but our priority is to make sure we have got Premier League status next season. These type of defeats you have to take it on the chin and you have to learn from it. The disappointing thing is we did concede goals but we had opened up so much to get back in the game. I don’t think it is a true reflection of how we have defended for most of the night. Good luck to Aston Villa.”
Hughton admitted City paid for failing to take their own clear-cut chances in an action-packed quarter-final.
“We had plenty, but I think it just came down to the pivotal moments in the game and we had to make sure we held onto that lead for longer than we did in the first half,” he said. “We had a great couple of chances in the second half and if they go in then it is a different game. It became very open in the end because we needed to try and get back into the game and it became I suppose a typical end-to-end cup-tie. In the areas that mattered they obviously showed more than what we did. If you look at their finishes they were all good.
“Shay Given pulled off a great save from Grant Holt and Morison had a chance early in the second period. It was a game where you had to take the chances. They are a good side and they use the space really well. We needed to use it better at times and when we needed to show some composure in that second half we gave the ball away a little bit too cheaply and we conceded poor goals, which is not like us.”

League: 12 goals in 16 games
League Cup: 14 goals in 4 games
Anyone got any sort of explanation for this stat?
I really fancied us tonight, had £20 on us at 11/4. Benteke is a machine.
-
From a Norwich forum about our fans
they sounded immense
a club who have won:
1 European cup
7 League titles
7 FA Cups
5 League cups
were able to get excited about this, but not our fans who want to finish mid table.
-
I know it's only some twonk on Twitter, but it put a smile on my face:
Aston Villa fans tonight were great, joint best I've seen down here for years. Same amount as celtic and were louder than celtic
If anyone finds the goals online, please let me know haven't found them yet.

wow that is really scary, guess it means we should never beat our selves up about wanting to be one of the great teams again
-
Also, Weimanns finishing for both of his goals tonight was brilliant.
-
Listened to the match on 5Live sports extra then dashed down to the pub for the quiz.
Has anyone mentioned our away support yet?
The whole of the second half was a crescendo of Villa chants and songs, even the commentator remarked on it. Ladies and gentlemen I salute you. The twelfth man is alive and well and going to away games.
Oh and by the way the four goals were half decent as well. ;)
-
Interesting comments from Lambert that he wanted to freshen Weimann up a bit because of how hard he worked in the City, United and Arsenal games.
-
Great post match interview by Chris Hughton. A very likeable honest man.
Being as I am in self-indulgent mood tonight here is another one:
Chris Hughton seems to be doing a good job wherever he goes.
Yes pleased for him decent man however his next game to lose will be in the League cup!

SSN are also showing a rather terrific save by Given. The goals look terrific and Bent was unlucky. It seems that Villa had 17 shots (11 on target) compared to 9 (4?) by Norwich so well done all round. The 'edge' that was missing appears to have been found!
Yet, when I flicked on WM in the car as I took the missus to work, Franks was saying it was all Norwich with the chances in the game( this was a minute or so before Weeman's first.) I wished we could get a partisan commentator on WM again.
-
This looks like the "stuffing" that many of us have predicted for a while. The cynic in me is saying that it probably wasn't a great Norwich performance, but I'm chuffed to bits to be in the Semi's and this will surely be a massive boost. What's going on in the cup this year? 4 games, 15 goals and three away wins.

An unbiased one would be a start. But on a night like this, fuck them. If anyone ever asks you what makes three thousand people make an expensive seven hour round trip in freezing cold, foggy, horrible weather two weeks before Christmas, tell them about tonight.

Listening to the match on the radio, I'd say that Norwich played very well and there were a few times when they should have scored. I put tonights win down to Lambert's excellent timing in taking a tired Holman off and putting the Zog on.
-
One of my best away games for some time. We are building something and in a few years time with this attitude team effort we will be back.
I love the Villa.
-
From my computer based arm-chair I have predicted we would thrash someone for a few games now. We're either on the cusp of being a great team or this is the worst purple patch in my known history of Aston Villa.
-
Just home from the game.
He is better than Frankie Broome, better than Trevor Ford, better than Gerry Hitchens, better than Luc Nilis, better than Garry Thompson, better than Cyrille Regis, better than Dalian Atkinson, better than Andy Gray, better than Alan McInnally, better than Peter Withe, better than John Carew. He is the best centre forward I have ever seen in a Villa shirt.
-
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but fair play to the Norwich fan with Petrov's name and number on his shirt.

Darren Bent?

He is good. Lets hope we get some great memories off him before he moves on. Tonight was one... He was unplayable at times

Fuck that is some tribute, you did not mention Simon Stainrod. UTV

Better than Andy 'The Tank' Lochead?

Just back, not one to gloat but:
I've seen them a few times in this run when they could, and should have had their arses handed to them.
Well, we'll sort that out Tuesday. 4-1 Villa.
Everything about tonight was fucking ace.
-
What a fantastic night that was, and to think for the first couple of hours of driving out through the fog this afternoon I was regretting going.
Tremendous support and a really positive, attacking performance.
Delph was magnificent. Tonight he was everything I imagined he would be when we bought him. I worried about the midfield three when the teams were announced but they won us the game, Norwich couldn't get near them.
Benteke immense, Wiemann looks quality. And in the time he was on Bent's movement was better than it has been for a long time.
Moment of the match? Well, all the goals were good - but I loved the fact we scored at the end of an "ole, ole" spell of keeping possession. I don't recall us doing that before, our few "ole" shouts usually result in a throw-in or an opposition attack.
Also, the fact that the Villa fans didn't forget Stan when Norwich scored seconds before the 19 minute mark - how we were rewarded when Holman struck just after the minute's applause ended.
You wouldn't think it at times reading some of the negative stuff we get on here after every game and on TV, but this team is coming along nicely. We still need to be patient, and we could well get stuffed at Liverpool or Chelsea, but there are some exciting times ahead. I haven't felt this good about the Villa in a long time.
-

Just got in - that was ace !!! Restored my faith in why we do what we do.
Superb support too - atmosphere was amazing. You could tell it transmitted onto the pitch too.

Yes! Get in there you beauty! Roll on Livepool.

Ace.

Here we go

Sat here at Norwich Airport waiting for my flight back to Manchester with a huge grin ony face. Haven't stopped buzzing since last night and can't wait to get into work to ask all the Mancs how they got on. The support last night was also superb, that 15 minutes of Paul Lamberts Claret and Blue Army with the scarf twirling and everyone jumping around must have looked brilliant. The last couple of seasons have been painful at times but this just shows if you keep the faith this club cangive you some amazing moments ofjoy. Proud to be a Villain and proud ofmy club and its supporters last night.
-
For those who went, how did the midfield - including N'Zogbia when he came on -do? Did the formation look worth persisting with?
-
Great to read something positive about Delph. Well done and thanks to everyone who made the effort to get there, you got your just desserts. Shame about Bent, let's hope it's not serious and he can get back quickly and earn his place with performances like that was shaping up to be.

Couldn't make the game due to a 2nd inrerview for a very promising external promotion.
Devestated not to have been there. First league cup fixture I've missed in four years.
Will be back for the semis cheering the boys loud and proud.
Proud of everyone there tonight cheering the boys on. Especially AVFC82EC.
Roll on Saturday, Come on you Lions!
-

We bossed the midfield, Delph was outstanding, and N'Zogbia coming on for Holman at that point opened the game up for us, and I think he had a hand in the all three goals.
Special mention for the utter coolness displayed by Benteke for the third goal, could have rushed it and took it on himself, but he just waited for Weimann and stuck on plate fo him.
I think I'm with Brian on him, he's almost flawless and he's such a team player.
-
Just watched the highlights on AVTV. Some thoughts:
- looked a bit like we played 4 at the back, with herd at rb and Lowton right mid. Is that right?
- baker messed up for their goal
- nzogbia was involved in all 3 of our late goals from a left hand side position. The ability to bring on that sort of player late in the game was evidently important in earlier games at st James park and v Swansea. I have a feeling nzogbia is going to make a significant contribution in the last 15 at anfield on Saturday too . .
- finally Benteke puts his laces through it! Looked a great team goal
- interesting to see whether delph or KEA has done enough to come into the side for Saturday
- lichaj set up a goal with his left foot!
-
Excellent display. I've got a semi on.
Goals were on SSN this morning, beauties they were too.

A weeks time after the Chelsea game.

Paul franks wasnt even there last night, I had the game on and thought the commentary on wm was very good and praised villa throughout , there were times when Norwich had a hot spell and I can only assume you turned on at that point - wm have rightly been criticised in he past but last night they were very pro villa and excellent in their broadcast.

Well, Brian, I value your opinion and this is as big a claim as I've seen.
I hope you're right and I also hope that Villa's fortunes can grow as Benteke's game grows so that he gives us as much of his time as we can possibly get before someone else's money drags him away.
And we need to nurture Weimann and "A.N. Other" striker at the same time, in order to insure against a Benteke injury or sale.
Reasons to be cheerful.
PS out of the list you posted last night, Andy Gray and Dalian were always my favourites; the former for his fearless and usually rapier-like striking, the latter for his individual brilliance (shame about his lethargy).
-
Last night against an in form Norwich on their own patch we had a quite magnificent victory. It was fully deserved.
What did we get from the media? At 7.35 this morning on the BBC round up they spent about 10mins on Arsenal and their defeat. That Nugent woman managed to give our result and that was us dealt with. On Sky Sports news at 8.00AM we didnt make an appearance until 8.15AM.
They should be ashamed of themselves.
Come to think of it Bradford didnt get the credit they deserved either.
-
All the goal celebrations were mental, but the fourth goal, which meant nothing by then, was celebrated like a winner from the sheer joy of seeing us score a goal like that.

What a night the support was fantastic! No voice and a sorehead this morning but well worth it.
I thought it was a very open game at times and we did ride our luck but we looked world class in spells.
Don't want to single out players as I thought the whole team played well!
du du du du du du du du Andi Weimann!
-
I really think Leeds at eland road could turn Chelsea over especially after a long trek home from Japan - this could be our year folks!
Delighted to hear Delph was outstanding , how did kea and nzogbia do?

Still buzzing.

Good goals, shame it didn't show the build-up to the 4th as it was supposed to be great.
Think I like Andi's 2nd the best - a natural finisher if ever I saw one. I also agree with the poster who says we should nurture all our strikers in case Benteke gets injured (perish the thought!)

The fourth goal isn't done justice, it started with Benteke doing Ronaldo stepovers and then went through about 15 crisp passes and choruses of ole before he rammed it home.
-
Hopefully BBC will have better highlights tonight then

I don't want to in any way take away from the performance and result last night, but lest we forget, it was a PL side winning well away to another PL side.
We're not Small Heath, we don't need approval from anyone for managing that.

Agree - it's a fantastic results and performance but it is one for us to enjoy.
To be fair Bradford winning is deservedly a bigger story - though predictably turned into Arsenal in Crisis story.

Delighted to hear Delph was outstanding , how did kea and nzogbia do?
Glad to see Delph getting plaudits too. He had a great game. Another standout for me was Clark. Thought he was excellent. Lowton is a very good player and played well. Baker, bar the mistake for the goal was good, Holman never stops and played well too. Kea did enough, but didn't stand out, maybe he was just overshadowed by Delph and Holman. Was impressed with N'zogbia when he came on, brilliant move by Lambert to bring him on. I think we should enjoy Benteke whilst he is here. He is awesome. I'm not being cynical and all 'Randy sells all our players', I just think he could play at a very high level, and soon there will be no shortage of takers.
To sum up, I couldn't be prouder of the lads. The fans were excellent and we deserved a reward for travelling in dangerous conditions to see them.
Smiling from ear to ear

That was the kind of swashbuckling performance we haven't been threatening these past few games!
We are on a good run, but last night we were excellent attacking wise and could have had more. I am not sure if Benteke was off side, it looked very close to me.
Bring on Bradford and while we wait, lets give the Dippers a good hammering.

give us the second leg at VP and I dont care.
it will obviously not be the same as that famous victory against the Charlton Law Crerand Kidd Stiles et al

Surely for radio commentary it's better for it to be impartial? Why would anybody want to listen to a pro-Villa commentator saying that we're playing great when we're not?

In fairness it would probably have been the same if we'd lost to a division 4 club and Arsenal had won at Norwich.

Please don't watch the highlights, they are probably illegal, however the phone footage below is well worth a gander, not for the goal as much as the Benteke love in that follows. What a result I'm still smiling.

I watched the last half of Extra time of the Arsenal game in a Norwich pub with an Arsenal fan. He was a good bloke but that still didn't dent my pleasure in the manner of their defeat. It made for an even better night. The Norwich fans were a good lot as well.
If you were listening to radio 5 today you wouldn't even know our game took place last night. But who cares, we know it did and I'm still buzzing.
-
SSN are also showing a rather terrific save by Given.
An unbiased one would be a start. But on a night like this, fuck them. If anyone ever asks you what makes three thousand people make an expensive seven hour round trip in freezing cold, foggy, horrible weather two weeks before Christmas, tell them about tonight.
Amen Dave.
Surely for radio commentary it's better for it to be impartial? Why would anybody want to listen to a pro-Villa commentator saying that we're playing great when we're not?
Well, I would prefer a very biased commentary any time. An odd hint of truth is acceptable.
-
On my way back to Reading from Norwich and very happy. I noticed Delph had licence to get forward and run with the ball last night and this suited his game.
-
Just home from the game.
You have left out the best two. Andy Lochhead and, of course, Sammy Morgan! Can't be better than these two gems.
-
Just watched the goals. Benteke looked incredible just from the brief highlights I've seen. He looked really really up for it, collecting the ball from the net after the equaliser and his celebrations after the other goals.
It was also good to see Bent sat with a tracksuit on with all the subs and a massive smile on his face and joking with Lambert after he had gone off. If there is a problem there he's got a funny way of showing it.

Wm can be very critical but last night they were very good and gave plenty of praise but were not afraid to criticise as in givens case- Woodward however on avtv goes over the top and is over enthusiastic although he is hardly going to criticise much as the club pay his wages .
-
Great result last night! Onwards and upwards I think.
Many sore heads on here today?
-
17 attempts at goal, 11 on target , 52% posession - hardly undeserved was it :)
If there is a God then we will get safe soon in the league, Win the Cup and when the trophy is presented it is Stan who goes up to collect it as club Captain
-
I went so I knew we would win, I've been to man city and we scored 4, I wonder why is never works in the league but it was fucking magic, I didnt get into bed till 2.45 but it was worth it, what a player benteke is, I said it all along ner ner ner :)
-
Bit of a shout for the police and stewarding last night (can't say i've said that very often)- it was pretty lively down the front for the 2nd 3rd and 4th goals. quite often there is an over reaction to the jubilation and celebrations with 1 or 2 getting needlessly thrown out. But last night they were pretty calm and let us just get on with it which made a refreshing change

My mistake on the commentator. What I heard was that Norwich were the favourites to score next and had all the best chances in the game although Villa were holding possession better. I knew from even the little coverage on SSN that there match was very even throughout with us maybe just shading it.

You probably switched on in the 2nd half at 1-1 when Norwich had a purple patch for a few minutes - the only real criticism on wm was of shay given who they felt looked very shaky and a shadow of his old self.
-
cant see that I thought we pretty much controlled the game for long period. yes they had chance but so did we. By the end of the game it was a thoroughly deserve victory

No question whatsoever that we were the better team and deserved to win - even Norwich fans have said as much .

My two lads added semi-final tickets to their christmas lists this morning. Happy days!
-
What was nzogbia like when he came on , did he look as if he was up for it ? If we can get a fit and performing nzogbia and Delph then it adds to our options nicely.

Very direct if remember correctly but too be honest the last 15 minutes of the game is a wonderful blur, the football and the bedlam in the stands at that point was amazing!
-
I've only had a brief opportunity to digest everything this morning. I only found out about the result late into the night here due to bloody work commitments. Thankfully the OS had some brief highlights spoiled by Woodgob and his nonsense, but that said I hope they do put the whole game on there at some point.
I'm sure it has been mentioned by others but I'm really glad for Brett Holman. He really is an unsung hero, alomost forgotten at times. He works his bollocks off, almost Stan Petrov style and now is adding more by contributing goals from midfield. And generally they are complete belters. Up until QPR he was very unlucky with some tremendous efforts but it's great to see him getting what he deserves. He was a McTwat acquisition so I suppose we should be grateful for at least one thing that he did.
I see there is a positive thread started about the outlook for this group and the remainder of the season. I'll look forward to reading and contributing to that.

Andreas Weimann hailed the claret and blue faithful as they showed spectacular levels of support at Norwich, insisting: "It's a pleasure to play in front of them!"
Over three thousand fans made the three hundred and twenty mile round-trip to Carrow Road to cheer on Lambert's Lions.
And they weren't disappointed as Villa emerged 4-1 winners.
Weimann, who bagged the all-important brace in the second half, was astounded by the levels of support displayed by the travelling army.
He said: "The fans were absolutely unbelievable. It was incredible support from them from first minute to last.
"The stand where they were seated was absolutely full.
"It is a long way to come from Birmingham to Norwich but they came to support us in their thousands. Hats off to them!
"The way they supported us was brilliant. They have been amazing all season. It's a pleasure to play in front of them."
Weimann said the team are now "really excited" at a semi-final two-leg in the Capital One Cup.
He added: "It's brilliant. I am really happy to have scored two goals but the team as a whole were unbelievable. We're so excited about being through to the semi-finals.
"It means the world to me to score the two goals. For me it's brilliant. Obviously I want to score in every game I play. But I was just happy to score two in this one.
"Eric did brilliantly down the left for the first goal and I was lucky that no-one touched it and it came to me. It was a striker's finish - I just put it into the back of the net.
"Christian did brilliant for my second goal. He looked up and saw me at the edge of the box and put a lovely ball in for me. All I had to do was put my leg there and put it in.
"The first goal from Brett was really important. They scored and then we hit back a minute later. That put us straight back into the game. The final goal from Christian was a brilliant finish too.
"The main thing is we're through to the semi-finals. We're really looking forward to that."

From the highlights on Weimann's first goal I got the impression Benteke dummied it so it would go through untouched.

Think Holman is another captain candidate in the "leads by example" sense.

Now he seems to be getting the final ball and shot right and we have been crying out for goals from midfield- if he can continue to deliver the end product he will be a great asset.

Wouldn't it be a real shame if 21st December turns out to be the end of the world as predicted by the Mayans just as we get into the League Cup Semi Finals and we really seem to be getting a team together which is going somewhere. At least we won't need to worry about Chelsea (A).

We won't get relegated though! ;-)

Pedant alert: The Mayans have never predicted the end of the world.

But not better than Billy Myerscough Brian!
Or Pongo Waring!

Hookey, I just shed a tear reading that.
-
Peter Withes Shin thank you for that, I have been away now from the UK for nearly 7 years working here in the Mid East, last Villa game seen live was Spurs birthday party that we did everything to spoil, but then gave the yids there present in the end( 4-4) and have not missed alot about the UK, but seeing that video clip, I now know what I miss that sheer jubilation of the first 20 or 30 seconds after the Villa score, I am 52 and still would go barmy for that time, I wear a Villa pendant and a Villa ring now at times over the last few years wondering why, your clip makes me realise exactly why, because they never ever will go awy from being apart of me, Come On Villa lets win it and PWS thank you.

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but I got chills picturing that in my head. Do you think he would go and collect it? I think ideally he should go up with the team and lift it last.

What a vision to carry us through!
As his name rings out round Wembley...
-
Stan strikes me as a humble guy so I doubt he would lift it on his own. Its nice to picture Stan and Ron lifting it together though. We really are getting way ahead of ourselves here.

I could see him going up with the team and being last in the queue to give it a lift, the 'big lift' would be done by Vlaar or Gabby I should imagine.
-
I can imagine the rest of the squad wanting Stan to be lifting it. He is still club captain.
-
Maybe a joint lift between Petrov and the captain on the day?

I'll have twos.

That's what I'm thinking, with the assumption that the captain on the day would be Ron Vlaar.

Dad reckons that the best centre forward we've had since he started going to Villa Park (in the 1940s) was Keith Leonard.
Better than Peter Withe is a big claim though! In fact when I first saw Benteke play I saw some of the things that Withe did in his game (holding the ball up, laying it off intelligently, aerial dominance). Maybe we've found our Gary Shaw now with Weimann?
I hope so.

Just got home nearly 24hours later, stayed down last night and had to do a bit of Christmas shopping with the mrs on way home today. Thought we played brilliant the whole game,Benteke was quality again. And well done to all the fans you were brilliant!!

Well the ''highlights'' on BBC were shite..3 games played other 2 games shown with commentary and highlights us just a voiceover and the goals...
-
Yep, really disappointed to not see more of our game. Obviously I'm biased, but with ours the only all-top division tie in the round, and containing more goals than the other two games combined, one might have expected more than the cursory two minutes we got.

Well the ''highlights'' on BBC were shite..3 games played other 2 games shown with commentary and highlights us just a voiceover and the goals...
And the voiceover said, in effect, nothing much happened in the second half until the final 11 minutes when Villa scored the three goals. So, numerous saves by both keepers, both sides having a goal disallowed within a couple of minutes - none of that was worth showing? They actually showed less than SSN did in their roundup item.
-
still recovering from this one, what a night. Arguably one of the best atmospheres ive been to!
Has anyone got any pics looking towards the villa fans?
