Superb result, into the last 16 job done.
-
Fantastic .

Well well well, I did not see this coming. BUT I LIKE IT.
-

One things for sure, we will not know what to expect from this team this season.
Well done boys.
-

Sets us well for Saturday, we needed a boost and it doesn't get much better than that.
-
Where did that come from? Brilliant!
-
amazing. proud. over the moon. was not expecting that . what a boost.
-
Absolutely immense, were a better team without Bent... This season is going to be so exciting! Get in you regae regae Villa boys!
-
So proud of the Villa tonight
-
Well done the lads!!!!!!!!!!
Special mention for Agent Barry! ;)
-
Brilliant!!!! Tipped the tea down the drain and got a larger out now so happy! Villa til I die!!
-
Well we were told that you could not expect to predict Lambert's teams and could be hit and miss from match to match. But no one could have expected this.
-
Well they certainly tore us a new one there.
Get the fuck in.
Encouraging to hear about good performances from Delph & Gabby.
-
We can't even keep a clean sheet. Sort if out Lambert.
-
Fabulous and even better for being totally unexpected and thoroughly deserved. Lambert working small miracles already and bitter memories of 2 years' worth of capitulations erased.
-
Bloody Norah and Gordon Bennett - make your minds up Villa - shit - great - shit - great.
Still better than last season.... :D
-
Brilliant! Can I just say I was 1 of the 4 people who said we'd win AET. I just fucking love nights like these. Pity had to follow via radio but it made the match thread pretty surreal
-
First time I've ever got a prediction right on here I think!
Fuckin brilliant result!
Well done Villa- big grin on my face on the train to work this morning
;D
-
We should be winning games like this anyway ;-)
-
This should go down in history as one of Villa's best wins.
Took me back to the European cup final when we were such massive underdogs.
Bloody fantastic. My keyboard has melted !!!!!!!!!!!
Gabby's the man!!!!!!
-
Great result. We said there'd be a lot of ups and downs.
Lets hope the ups continue on Sunday (thus is a great confidence booster). However, it's not the end of the world if it goes tits up, just like we're not the greatest after tonight.
Gonna enjoy this season.
-
The lads done us proud. Brilliant result and performance hopefully we build on this for Sunday!
-
Happy Happy JoyJoy
This is going to be a mad season...
-

I agree. I literally cannot believe it. Well done you lions!!
-
Not seen or heard a kick, followed exclusively on here and you guys have put the biggest smile on my face in 3 years following the Villa.
Fantastic result.
Now Gabby, do it again on Sat and prove you are back please.... not just one night only.
Benteke and Gabby with Charlie in behind deserve their shot against Albion.
-
Should give us some confidence , West brom still a tough game, if we had got tonked tonight I would have dreaded Sunday.
-
Get in you fucking dancer!
Love from Majorca
-
Fuck me gently, what a strange results
We beat City, at the council house, Barry scored an OG, someone please pinch me
GET THE FUCK IN ME CLARET AND BLUE BABBIES!
-
Sets us well for Saturday, we needed a boost and it doesn't get much better than that.
Sets us up even better for Sunday!
Fuck it lets play them twice.
-
On the basis of our up and down form we are going to be fucking abysmal on Sunday now. Still, get in lads.
-
Absolutely fucking brilliant! By all accounts, we demonstrated a "never-say-die" attitude. I can go to my first game of the season on Sunday, with something approaching optimism!
-
I love Gabby.
-
Great stuff, didn't hold much hope, but when Lambert says he is going take teams on he's going to take them on!
Well done everyone!
UTV
-
Brilliant result, and from what I could make of the commentary on radio, well deserved too. Totally unexpected, perhaps that's the way this season is going to run....expect the unexpected!!
-
It's all about pride. Winning is a bonus, the best thing about tonight is that we weren't cowed, we weren't beaten when we left Brum, we have a manager who wants to hold his head high rather than shrug his shoulders.
We have a man who knows what it requires to manage Aston Villa.
-

Spot on mate. Such a huge lift after the last couple of years
-
As some of us said after the Saints game. Results and performances will be all over the place for a while, but the foundations are being laid for a better future. Keep the faith. UTV
-
Well, if this is what it's going to be like under Plumbutt - bring it on!
-

This, well said !
-
Brilliant result. What a turn up. Totally unexpected - keep the faith!!
-
Bloody hell that wasn't supposed to happen.
-
My throat hurts a lot. I wonder what the Chinese people next door made of my wall banging and my door kicking.

Amen brother.
-
SSN just showed the goals.....gabbys first was ace.
-
Just watching the goals now on SSN.
The build up to Gabbys first was great.
-
If we get beat sometimes I don't mind as long as we put in a performance and have a bloody good go. Tonight just goes to show what can be achieved when you have a go at the top teams.
Proud of them all tonight.
-
BRING ON THE STRIPEY FUCKTARDS!!!

'we weren't beaten when we left brum'
Bloody well said.
-
If anyone has any (legal) links to the goals, please share them!
-
Gabbys 1st was delightful and his 2nd did'nt look bad either, getting the ball and running at defenders is whats been missing from Gabbys game for the past couple of seasons. He's shit scary when in that form.
-
Great post Nev.

Crack open a bottle of Siglo XXI tonight.....blow the expense!!!
-
Never been so glad to be so wrong.
-
Just had another look at the poll on the pre-match thread. Well done to the 4 posters who voted for the Villa to win AET
-
Paul Lambert walked up to my negative prediction, broke both its legs and kicked it over a cliff.
Amazing result.
happy to be wrong, again.
-
It's great listening to the Radio Manky phone in....thought we were moaners but by golly they are having a go
-
Do we need a separate thread 'Reggae Reggae Sauce To Replace Ketchup At Villa Park After Delivering Good Fortune'?
-
Magic!
-
I hope Holteender in the sky hasn't done anything stupid.
Apart from post on the match-thread of course.
-
So happy tonight and so proud of the lads, hopefully this will give us a massive boost for Sunday and we'll smash those stripey tossers.
-
Bucking frilliant!
-
Incredible victory. Thank you Aston Villa. This is what football is all about, pleasant surprises. Lets build on this, win against West Brom and got all out to win this competition.
-
It's great listening to the Radio Manky phone in....thought we were moaners but by golly they are having a go
Link?
-
Such a difference from two years ago under Houllier. We went there and had a go, and it paid off.
Good work, Lambert.
-
Had the pleasure of listening to BBC Radio Manchester's commentary. If anyone wants to text them send them a message 81333 and start with the word MANC. UTV!
-
I hope Holteender in the sky hasn't done anything stupid.
Apart from post on the match-thread of course.
Chuffed to be wrong. Great performance and well done to the lads.
Seems there were one or two more on here thought we'd get tonked though....
-
Proud.
-
Did not expect, think lambert building something special , 3 superb results in a month , well done villa!!!
-
liked Lambert reaction to barrys bad challenge. right in the face of mancini
-
Just got back to the car. Soaking wet but very happy.
-
Just got back to the car. Soaking wet but very happy.
You'll be warm in half an hour once the car warms up, up until then the pride of being a Villa fan will keep you warm!
-
Early alarm call in the morning but too excited to sleep!
I love Aston Villa!
Thank you Mr Lambert.
Thank you Gabby!
-

-
Much needed confidence boost after a very bad result last weekend. And we're still in the cup we have by far the best chance of winning. Lots of positives today but the main one has to be Gabby looking (sounding) like he could be back to his old self. Has to have earned a start for Sunday. He always scores in derbies as well.
-
Anyone know if there's any truth in the rumour of what the City fans sang during the 19th minute?
-

That sounds fine to me mate. Roll on Sunday.
-
its a real feelgood result, cant remember the last time we had one probably back in the MON days
i am now going to accept that this season we will lose some games mybe by a few goals like on saturday, but we will also win are fair share in the same manner, whilst all the time PL builds the team and squad into something we can get excited about on a more regular basis
-
As some of us said after the Saints game. Results and performances will be all over the place for a while, but the foundations are being laid for a better future. Keep the faith. UTV
This is it, people predicting certain relegation after a couple of poor results was just ridiculous. There's enough in the squad to be comfortably safe from relegation, especially with Lambert at the helm. There will be setbacks, but no need to piss our pants about it.
-
liked Lambert reaction to barrys bad challenge. right in the face of mancini
Whilst the reaction was fun, I didn't think it was a foul as Barry seemed to just stand there. Maybe it looked worse from another angle. But I did think Barry's delicate side foot into the corner was a great Villa goal.
-
I hope Holteender in the sky hasn't done anything stupid.

Chuffed to be wrong. Great performance and well done to the lads.

Not me. This is our cup this one and we will not do a Blose cause we will be nowhere near relegation.
-

Thx. They seem to be whining about selling A Johnson. Ha
-
Anyone know if there's any truth in the rumour of what the City fans sang during the 19th minute?
Can you elaborate. I would guess only ones at the match could confirm as nothing was mentioned in the match thread.
-
Excellent. Great stuff Villa.

Nearly as good as Ridgewells Knee, in my view.
-
I hope Holteender in the sky hasn't done anything stupid.
Apart from post on the match-thread of course.
I noticed he disappeared from the match thread when things started to go right.
For once I waited for the inevitable and it didn't happen. Splendid. A great response to the weekend's under-performance.
Those who were saying it will be an up and down season seem to have a point.
-
HEITS: yes, lots of people thought we'd get beat. But no-one else was taking the piss out of us.
-
Wonderful performance and result. And Gabby's back as we'll. Get in!
Bring on those Smethwick wankers!
-
I think it's safe to say Gabby is up for it .
His first goal was superb.

I didnt disappear at all. If that were true then why would I be posting now???? And why not just celebrate the win instead of singling out Villa fans for fearing the worst. Go and pick up your winnings for clearly backing us with thousands at 8/1.
-
seems like Gabby had a great game and Albrighton to,
causing a few selection headaches for Lambert
-
I think it's safe to say Gabby is up for it .
His first goal was superb.
Good one to with Benteke took most of the defenders out in one move, then a cool slot past the keeper.
-
The Mancs are calling for Mancini's head on the radio! Unreal.
-
Bloody brilliant.

did they get beat by small heath . no . we are VILLA
-
Like many on hear feeling great pride in our club tonight, well done lads

I like these types of selection headaches!

I think it's safe to say Gabby is up for it .

Good one to with Benteke took most of the defenders out in one move, then a cool slot past the keeper.
He barged through two defenders to get to the return ball. He was like a bull.
Brilliant to see.
-
Tonight's what being a football fan (particularly a Villa fan) is all about. Exactly what we needed after Saturday's performance and great to see players who haven't featured much staking their claim. Went old school tonight and listened to the game on the radio and the overriding impression I got was that Gabby caused major problems with his pace.
-
Listening to the Man Citeh fans phoning in is fantastic!

8/1 was just in normal time.
-
Those stripey feckers will be a bit shocked by this result and be shitting themselves for Sunday.
Me for one cannot wait to play Smethwick. Full house, most on our side and three more points, thank you very much Smethwick, now feck of back to the Blose and the Dogheads.

Yep. Lost 15 euros but still happy.
-
Anyone know if Bennett went off injured or just knackered? Sounded like he had a great full debut.
-
Great. This is how football should be. Villa going any where, not fearing the opposition, giving them as good as we get and ending up winning is a bonus. Pride comes first winning comes second.
-
It's my birthday today, said earlier that we never win on my birthday and look what happens! Absolutely over the moon, credit to Lambert for picking the guys up after Saturday and picking a team to give them a game.

I'm sure some of our more level headed explorers in the wetlands will be able to let us know late tonight or tomorrow. But in my best judgemental tones can I just say it seems to finally prove that when the glory comes in, the better fans seem to be replaced by plastic ******.
-
Seeing more about the City fans and the 19th minute. Anyone know anyone who went to see if it's true or not?
-
New money.....tut tut
And their local reporters are so disrespectful
-

He fell into Barry's custard pants and exhausted himself getting himself out didn't he.

Anyone who had the pleasure of watching the match, who played well? How did we line up?
It was a weird initial selection I thought.
-
I'd like to think that in years to come when we start to go into meltdown after one bad result, as we so often do, someone will bring up this night and remind us that patience truly is a virtue.
-

just read this and thought 'hang on a minute- I cant even remember any of the results from my birthday?!' Its July 17th. Head is still spinning from the game!

Re the 19th minute applause. I was at the game and didn't hear any songs from city fans during it. However when they were met with no respect my lord, there were a few songs sang back don't think they were about stan though.

I agree. Football fans sing horrible things occasionally. I’m not saying they should but I just don’t think it’s news worthy.

I'm seeing a lot of stuff that they sang "let him die" during the 19th minute applause. I'm really hoping it's crap but it's appearing in a few different places.
-
Seeing more about the City fans and the 19th minute. Anyone know anyone who went to see if it's true or not?
City fans are generally class and the club put the Petrov thing up on the board which was nice of them.
Until proven otherwise I will assume it was just a minority at worst. I refuse to tar City fans with that kind of accusation.
-
We should be winning games like this anyway ;-)
Correct. Villa taking the cane out of the cupboard and dishing out six of the best to our inferiors is exactly the way it should be. Normal service resumed!
-
Who do you pick to play the Tescobags after that?
-
Who do you pick to play the Tescobags after that?
Give the kids a run out to thrash them. We can save our first team for fellow title challengers

We won for Stan tonight and put those horrible Arab, no mark c..ts out of this cup.
Fuck them if they sang that, not to our Stan, never.
-

I fully trust Lambert will pick the best squad to compete against them. It's just absolutely bloody lovely having too many players to pick from for once. :)
-
Great stuff Villa. Just great.

I'm very happy with the win, I didn't bet on it as I didn't really expect it, but I didn't feel the need to ridicule our chances either.
-
53% possession according to the BBC. That's possibly even more impressive than four goals.

Yup. Deffo the right thing to do. I wasnt there. It would surprise me though. I am a bit suspicious a lot of the twitter activity is coming from Man U fans....

DCF is probably in the middle of all the Man City fans who sang it swinging Pauline around by her ankles knocking them all over!

It's quite brilliant. About 8-9 out of City's 11 could be first choice in their position at some point this season, and we with our 6 changes as well kept the ball better than they did. At their place. I really can't quite believe it, it's brilliant.

Yeah dirty Arab bastards.
Wind your neck in a little. We had a great fookin' win, hold the moral high-ground, let's not spoil it, eh?

Fuck them if they sang that, not to our Stan, never.
Yeah dirty Arab bastards.
Wind your neck in a little. We had a great fookin' win, hold the moral high-ground, let's not spoil it, eh?

Well with the mighty fucking Villa barring their way they had no chance. Honestly, Gabby's first goal there was sheer class in build up and execution, I could hardly believe it was Villa.
-
Gabby's goal was top-notch.
-
Is that not Gabby's first goals at City? Either way it means he has scored at Man U, Man C, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Everton and all for ONE club. Has anyone else managed that feat? I doubt it.
EDIT: And how many derby goals on top of that?
Unreal.
-
Anyone think he might leave Bent out on Sunday?
Or maybe leave Gabby in for Benteke?

The Bedouins do sing IRA songs, but it's nothing sinister; they sing 'Come Out You Black and Tans' to the goats. The goats have a go back with 'We Are The Billy Boys'.

Southampton are better than Man Citeh. It's official.

Well I never expected that!! Had us down for at least a 2 or 3-0 defeat before the game. Fantastic spirit to come from behind twice and great to see Gabby on form.
Excited for Sunday now!!
-
Kept tabs on the game through Sky Sports News in between listening to housemates argue over who flushed a rubber johnnie down the bog busting it's innards in the process. Been that long since I've had a shag that I think I'm in the clear on that one. Digression aside, fantastic result - maybe our best since 0-1 against ManUre at Old Trafford in Dec '09.
Great to have Gabriel of Agbonlahor reminding us, the nouveau rich and the rest of the country how good he can be.
Oh and the match-thread is up there among the all-time greats, well done to all who contributed.

Full house on Sunday?

That's just given me tears in my eyes. Top class that. Cheers Doorbell.
You're welcome ;D

Didnt even contemplate for a second that we'd get any kind of result but was glued to the radio and TV all evening again...I would have been massively proud even if we'd have lost the game tonight, so this is just a massive tip on the iceberg. I think we'll be turning lots of corners along the PL road but looking forward to the game on Sunday now...its Gabby time!!!
edit: Paul Lambert is Samuel L.Jackson...

Fantastic match, we looked great and matched them all over. The young ones did well too.
I heard no songs from them re Stan. They didn't applaud, not until half time when the Pedal for Petrov things was announced across the stadium and got a round of applause.
A great night to be a Villa fan.
-
Anyone else had the "it was only Man City reserves" bollocks yet? Yet to get a reply when i've mentioned that starting 11 reserve side cost approx £150,000,000.
-
I was watching the Leeds game/helping my son with his homework then we turned over to SSN for extra time updates. Seeing him go up to bed buzzing made me feel a lot better about putting him through all those home games last season. It also made me glad I made the awkward choice to duck out of a family wedding so as not to miss Sunday's game. To be fair my son and I will be showing our face at the reception and we are even going home to get changed first. There will actually be four family members in total in the Aston Social pre match when we should really be suited and booted at a wedding.

"I am tired with this manager because I didn't say anything," the City manager said. "I asked the fourth official if it was a yellow card without moving my hands. He [Lambert] comes up to me every time but after this some managers go to bigger stadiums and don't say anything. I am tired of this, very tired. I am tired with their behaviour and it's better that some managers shut up because I didn't speak with this manager. I asked the fourth official if it was a yellow card and I thought the referee had left his yellow cards in the dressing room."
When pressed, Mancini said he had no problem with Lambert in particular but managers in general. The point he made, eventually, was that few have the courage to confront Ferguson in identical circumstances.
He added: "Every time I say something, they come. After, when they go to Old Trafford, they never say anything. When other managers [at Old Trafford] talk against the referee, they always stay on the bench and say nothing. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I am Italian but I don't know the reason. There's no problem. I just don't like this type of behaviour."
Young roberto is'nt used to losing.

Not long got in so haven't read this thread.
Just to say, fantastic game. Good support from our travelling supporters (I'm guessing 800 ish).
I've heard rumours of Citeh supporters singing 'let him die' regarding Stand. We never heard anything like that. There was a lovely show of support at half time on their screen and by their commentator which was clapped throughout the ground.
Bring on the Baggies.
-
I was in the Colin Bell stand tonight.
First thing is the Petrov 19th minute. Nobody close to us had a clue what the clapping was about, so there were no disrespectful songs sung about him.
Great Villa performance against a strangely disfunctional City team, tho it featured several internationals.
First half; good possession by villa, with Delph, el Ahmedi, Vlaar and Clarke the best performers. Bennett looked comfortable on the ball, tho he was bollocked a few times by Benteke for not releasing him early. Gabby was playing wide left and was lazy as hell and looking as disinterested as last season. Benteke held the ball up very well and looked likely. Wiemann was very quiet and Lowton was pretty poor (it was his poor control that initially enabled City to break forward to score).
Second half; gabby was pushed up top and it was was making of him. We played some great possession football, tho it usually meant we went backwards. Lambert looked frustrated when we went backwards and the out ball to the fullback was in but not used by Given. It was surprising when El Ahmedi was brought off, as he was perhaps our best player, first half. I guess Lambert wanted more aerial precence against the man city #62 (who was gettin a lot of stick by the city fans). Our game changed as a result of Gabby going up top and Weimann being brought off. Albrighton looked short of match sharpness, which wasn't surprising, but he always provided an outlet. Benteke continually controlled the outball from the keeper and found his man-very promising IMO. Bennett was injured towards the end after a tackle which I thought was in our favour, but which was not given. I have to say also that this was the best Phil Doyd has ever reffed us.
Focus will be on Gabby for his 2 goals and "assist" for cnz but Benteke held the ball up terrifically. Delph showed that he should play more than he does, and there is hope for cnz after a better display.
As for city, I'd be alarmed at Ballotellis poor showing, and some of their passing was poor. Great tenacity by the villa team though. They thoroughly deserved to win tonight. We do need to create more tho

What a win, sat with an over confident manc (well greater mancunian) all night, had enough of their arrogrant remarks.
Anyway to come back twice was superb, showed real character; especially against city.
I dont think non of us expected a result, so a good draw next round, who knows where we could get to!
Either way, enjoyed 80p vodkas and frshers too much tonight

I was stood right next to the City fans and didn't hear anything.
Gabby is back!
-
So did we shift to 442 in the second half? Did that mean CNZ left and weimann (alby) right?
Glad that delph played well. I thought he was hard done by to jot even be on the bench of late
-
53% possession according to the BBC. That's possibly even more impressive than four goals.
It's quite brilliant. About 8-9 out of City's 11 could be first choice in their position at some point this season, and we with our 6 changes as well kept the ball better than they did. At their place. I really can't quite believe it, it's brilliant.
It makes me hope that the saints game was a blip, and that we'll concentrate on our passing game. I'm sure the slow pace and lack of intensity from city helped though. Let's hope we can do it again on Sunday. I don't think anyone can predict with confidence the side we'll pick.
-
Off to work I go with a spring in my step. Wonder what my City supporting colleagues and pupils will say today...? Me thinks it might be pay-back time after all I've had to put up with in recent seasons!
-
Anyone else had the "it was only Man City reserves" bollocks yet? Yet to get a reply when i've mentioned that starting 11 reserve side cost approx £150,000,000.
Not yet but no doubt it will come...think they had 8 players who were pretty much in the mix from the team that won the league last year. Oh and we had no Bent, Guzan, Ireland, Holman, Bannan, Lichaj...so pretty much our 2nd string then!! :-)
-
Our starting 11 cost under 25m, there's cost over 150m. Can say what they like about second string.
Highlights are brilliant. Gabby was great. Won us the game.

Fantastic result but remember (if you listen to the press) Man City lost!!! it wasn't a Villa win-fuckin bias!!!

Great stuff, thank you for posting.

Gabby is back but Gabby now needs to do it every week or he'll be out, Great night although there weren't many of us it was a good night, city were annoying forcing us into a small section of seating when there was a whole block free, some people were really squashed
-
I couldn't believe when I flicked on the news last night and saw we won. Brilliant lads, really brilliant and erases most of my horror from the game the other day. Great for Gabby and N'Zog to be in the goals.

Yeah I would say so pal. The first half appeared to be a strange formation. Weimann really struggled to get in the game. Benteke was always available tho and asking for it a lot. Cnz buzzed around in the hole. Gabby was wide left and he clearly diesnt know what to do there/ does not like playing there. 2nd half, Weimann was deffo right side of midfield but still didn't get much out of Kolorov. Gabby was the right hand side of the front two and even looked as tho he might have had a bollocking at half time. This will give PL a headache on what to do up front. It was good to see Gabby go on the right as I had become tired of seeing him on the left and cut outside on his bad foot.
Plenty to take out of this, really proud of them
-
I'm delighted for Gabby (and CNZ)
I've given him plenty of stick, he deserved it most of the time, hope he's turned the corner and pushes on to be the player he looked like he was going to be 3 years ago.
-
Great result, very pleased for Gabby.
Let's keep it up and smash the baggies on Sunday!

Really does stink of being a very sore loser actually!
-
Fuck Mancini, sore loser and I'm sure Lambert would do it at old Trafford, You have to earn respect you mouthy bastard
-
Struggling with a sore throat this morning after last nights exertions!.
Thought it was our best away display for several seasons, especially as we matched/exceeded them all over the pitch, and didnt need a "backs to the wall" display to get through.
Didn't hear any negative stuff from City fans in 19th minute myself.
Did a quick count up of rows and seats in our section and reckon we probably just reached a thousand of us there.
Driving up there in there in the hideous rain, spray and rush hour traffic, I was thinking wtf am I doing?, then at the end thinking fookin hell, I wouldn't have missed this for the world!!.
UTV!
-
Good decision Lenny! The last two days have seen an extreme level of rainfall, even for our normal standards.
As u say, there was never a backs to the wall attitude deployed by Villa. How refreshing to see eh
-
Yes I very much enjoyed Mancini's rant, the highlights:
"I am tired with these managers,"
"I didn't say nothing to him (Lambert). There are some managers it is better to shut up.
"I asked only if there was a yellow card with the fourth official and he comes over to me.
"I didn't speak with him. I asked the fourth official if it was a yellow card because I thought the referee had forgotten his yellow cards in the dressing room.
"I don't know what is the reason. I can understand if I was talking to him but I didn't say nothing."
"I am very tired with their behaviour. Sometimes these managers go to the big stadiums and the other manager says everything and they say nothing.
"When they go to Trafford, they say nothing. When other managers talk about the referee they always sit on the bench.
"I don't like this type of behaviour."
And lambert's take?
""If that's what he said then fine. I respect him as a manager and an ex-player. It wasn't really a spat. It was nothing."
Very, very good.
-
Fell asleep on the settee when it was 2-2. Checked SSN before going to bed, and had to double check on the BBC website that they'd go the scores the right way round! Absolutely brilliant result, I think this season really is going to be a roller coaster ride.
-
So he tried to get one of our players booked and didn't like PL reacting to that - and as for the ref leaving his cards in the dressing room how the fcuk did Dowd book 8 players then? As others have said - sore loser. Absolutely brilliant that we've got a manager that can get under the skin of the likes of Mancini
-
Great result - Balotelli 1st goal at 4-1 and Villa to score next (at 2-3) at 6-1 - Cheers Skybet.
Not a bad game either!!
-
OK, so I know that yahoo sports page isn't some sort of oracle, but it's nice that at least one journalist understands us. This quote from today: The result was only Villa's second win of the season against Premier League opposition as Paul Lambert struggles to undo all the impressive amount of damage his predecessor Alex McLeish managed to do in such a short space of time.
-
I'm not even sure what Mancini is bitching about as it was a foul by Barry on Bennett anyway the daft twat.
-
It's just an attempt to distract attention from a very poor result.
I am seeing the same sort of tactic from bitter Citeh fans on Twitter.
-
The guardian report of it (on the website) focuses pretty much 50% on the spat between lambert and Mancini and 50% on the match. Early report had a photo of a man city player too.
Ah well, I suppose it is a Manchester organ...take your pick which one :o

I went out to watch the game and returned home when it wasn't on in the pub. At 2.1 I thought 'here we go again' and went to read a book. The missus came in and said

When you consider that one dodgy half in th last four matches has cost us dear .....it's coming along quite nicely if we can just cut out the lapses and get into other teams faces.
The Mancky phone in last night showed how City weren't doing that this season and are suffering for it so keep it up Villa...onwards and upwards

Would loved to have been there last night but Jnr didn`t fancy it as last time we were there he nearly had his eye taken out by a coin hurled from the home fans - result cheered me up after a miserable weekend.

Brilliant over the moon I'm so proud of the lads what a result.
Which ex football manager's autobiography are you reading at the moment?

Still smiling and my hangover has even receded now! Followed the score whilst I was at a gig last night, well I say followed - saw we were a goal down and thought I'll just catch the score towards the end, Gabby had just scored our second when I looked again. Enjoyed crossing the room at the end of the gig to the other Villa fan in the room who I knew, to show him the final score on my phone. It was a great gig as well!

One of the most pleasing aspects after being at the Saints game on Saturday, is that we had over 50% possession at Man Citeh and Benteke was in the team. That shows they learnt from their mistakes on Saturday and weren't just hoofing it to Benteke, he can be a brilliant asset provided we keep the ball on the deck.

Good observation. On Saturday it was almost like TSM thinking (or lack thereof) came back as soon as they saw the big man. Glad to see Lambert stamped that out.

I'm down with the two posts above, but still the winner was goal-kick, Benteke flick, Gabby shot, CNZ rebound. Mixing it up?

I actually think it is statistics like that which say the most about the way our game is progressing.
I struggle to remember the last time before this season we had > 50% possession.

this season is going to be fun big style
as i said on Saturday after the 2nd half collapse v Saints we will still get Norwich city type results - the good like last night and swansea and the bad like Southampton
its not going to be dull anyway

Observations:
1. Before Villa go out second half Vlaar’s teamtalk “if it’s not on, just keep passing it”
2. The teams (both) are really quiet
3. Man City employ someone to hang Mancini's coat up at half time
4. LOTS of people are employed to open doors

Anybody remember this?
Houllier said: “First of all, you play against a bigger team than ours. Sorry, Manchester City at the moment, and this is our challenge for the future, are above us.”
Houllier then admitted that they could have nicked a draw at Eastlands before confessing that he did not much fancy a replay, presumably with Premier League survival still at stake.
He said: “I thought we could have a draw there and if you draw you have to replay. That means you play Saturday, Wednesday, Monday and maybe Saturday. You have to take that into consideration.”
Houllier was then asked if he thought his strongest team could have beaten Manchester City. His answer will shock Villa fans and should set alarm bells ringing at both Premier League and FA headquarters.
Houllier’s response: “No. Honestly, no. It would have been difficult. I knew they would put their best side out and their squad is better than ours, but look at the figures. Look at the players they have.”
Just read this from Lambert, pre-match:
“I’m pretty sure we’ll have a good following going up there, so it’s not something I want to take lightly.
“I’ll try and pick a team that can go and win, I don’t want to just go up there and just think we’re going to get beat. Too many people come to watch us to do that so we have to try and get through.”
Just what we needed. Thanks Lambert&Co.

Good to see Gabby on fire again. I think he has to start against WBA. He's good in derby's normally. On that sort of form he's our best forward IMO.
Also loved the reaction to CNZ scoring. It clearly meant a lot to him and he seems a popular player amongst his teammates. Hopefully he can come good this season. There's talent there. He just needs a big shot of confidence.
