I'm taking my daughter to a birthday party. I'm probably better off to be honest.
I have very low expectations so I won't be too gutted when we get done over.
Please prove me wrong, I'll be checking my phone hoping for a miracle.
C'mon The Villa...please.

Pretty close to the side I would have named, although Collins I think should have come back and maybe Cuellar played right back. Looks like he is blocking the midfield with the 3 I wanted together in Warnock, Herd and Clark. NZogbia and Gabby either side of Emile. I would probably of played Ireland, but at least he is an option from the bench.

well the sensible way for that team to line is is with nzog and gabby tucked in left and right either side of heskey and warnock, herd and clark making a solid 3 in the middle.  Why then do I think warnock left, nzog right in a 442 is what will actually happen.

On top of that, incredibly harsh for Baker to have dropped out of the squad completely unless he has a knock.  At times he's looked a little inexperienced but he's played at least as well as any of our other central defenders.

Spent the morning in A&E after being taken there by ambulance - suffered severe abdominal and back pains during the night - two lots of painkillers administered - have to go back on Monday for scan - possible Kidney stone (s).

I will not be listening to the commentary or watching a stream - will tune in again at 5pm

Please Villa, give me the tonic I need

4-5-1 Mancini style, Gabby and Zog wide with the three in the middle all basically defensive. I'd have played Gardner myself, but there we are. That side is set up not to lose, plain and simple. Let's just hope it doesn't (even though we really need to win!).

Won't be able to blame It on playing the kids either. Clarke is the youngest at 22. Do you think he's setting it up with a midfield three of Clarke, Warnock and Herd with NZog and gabby providing width? Heskey up top on his own?

Agree with paul_e about Baker. I hope Dunne coming back is not bad news.

VCTM: if it's a kidney stone, good luck mate: I had one 2 years' ago, was taken into hospital immediately and had to pay £3.50 to watch the Villa-Blackburn 6-4 game whilst floating on morphine.
Which was nice.

Ouch, poor old you Clive. I had one in 1984 after a long hot summer spent on the beach following graduating from uni and it was very painful indeed. Back in the days when they used to put a basket shaped thingy up your you know what to try and drag it out. The first time you went for a pee afterwards was excrutiating. It was before the days of zapping them with a laser. I think I passed it naturally eventually. Used to love the pethedin pain killing injections mind you...

Get well soon mate

Why dammed? If we are relying On hitting them on the break then surely someone who looks up for it and has scored a couple recently is the better option. We will need to score today to get any positive result I'm sure.

Agreed, though I see why he'd drop him if he's playing a 4-5-1, as Gabby's pace on the break maybe valuable. Mind you, decently as Heskey played the other day, I'd still have played Weimann up front today, and if it's a 4-4-2 I'd have dropped Gabby for Weimann to play alongside Heskey. Either way, Andy should be playing.

In which case, Gabby should be on the bench IMO as he'd be an effective substitute, using his pace when the opposition is tired.

BBC Radio 5 live's Pat Murphy at The Hawthorns: "I was at Aston Villa's mid-week defeat by Sunderland and it was the worst reception I have heard for an Aston Villa manager since 1987, when they were relegated."

Nice unbiased pre-match summing up by that absolute tosser Pat Murphy - 'they can't wait to put one over on the Villa' pronounced in about as gloating and gleeful a voice as is possible

Don't think there is aything wrong in the quote itself unless you know Baggies with a soft spot for Villa. That said he did seem to revelling in the prospect - we upset his mate MON so has a grudge against us. Knobber

I said it after we lost against Bolton, but at this stage of thr season it's more about mental strength as opposed to playing ability. We look broken and devoid of ideas and when the lads look up at the boss they see the face of inevitability smiling back at them. McLeish has the face of man who's been there and done that, and the done that bit is what you fear the most.

Yep. Injuries, off the field stuff, the instability at the club have all taken their toll. He's certainly accountable but when a sprinter starts pulling muscle, as we all saw with Owen, and the problems facing Walcott, they are never the same again.

We really are fucking rubbish - the players can't do the simplest of things

Every time hutton crosses he hits the first defender, simple passes out to the wing are overhit, when we do break there are no players to support quick enough so the tempo of the break is lost - and as for Gabby - twat

Gabby looks overweight and unfit.

Why on earth McDick has to play 3 defenders in midfield, I don't know. It's all very ugly and cumbersome. I really can't see us scoring here. There's no cutting edge. We're totally lacking in pace, and our two pace players, Gabby and N'Zog look shit at the moment. Neither looks in top condition either.

It was a stonewall penalty. His arm was way out, and he gained advantage from it, as Villa player behind him. There was plenty of room front of him to avoid. Being silly doesn't excuse the player.

But we would have missed.

Trouble is these days that "ball to hand" is given.

Hand ball is supposed to be deliberate, but refs now give penalties if the arm is away from the  body, i.e. the player has made a "deliberate" attempt to make his body wider.  This seems to be the standard.  Ergo it was a penalty.  His arm was out there to stop the ball.

I don't think it was a pen.  Even if it could have been interpreted as such on the replay you can't expect the ref to give that in real time.  Gabby's 2 misses are more poignant if we're honest.

Except his arm was unnecessarily out wide, making his body unfairly bigger.
The guideline I got on my ref's course was that it does not need to be deliberate; if by having your arm out away fro myour body it deflects the path of the ball, the ref can and should award a handball.

But it's academic, since C'burg didn't.

Sorry, what?

In between making phenomenal goal-line clearances?
He was the player missing the ball, that gave them the run through, then backtracking to defend the post.

The final ball has been atrocious - no wonder we're not scoring many goals.

Story of our season. It's the main reason Bent and Gabby have been so poor, feeding off crumbs.

If I open the Champers now, I'll be giggly by the time the final whistle comes. That might make a defeat feel better. If I wait until the final whistle, I can possibly celebrate a draw with some ceremony. It's SUCH a dilemma.

Drink one now and buy another to drown your sorrows/celebrate with later. Simples!

It's open, you persuasive man.

nzog did really well there, was only one place the ball was going to go if he kept it in yet heskey and gabby both hung back, neither has any instinct in the box, which is why we look so unlikely to score.

We are playing so badly; you can sort of see why other fans see us as obvious relegation candidates.
Mind you, the Tesco bags have been very good at breaking up the play by fair or foul means.

I hope Norwich and Liverpool draw 3-3, if the other scores stay the same then we'll have;

0-0
1-1
2-2
3-3
4-4
4-0
4-0

I like patterns, I couldn't think of any thing better to say.

The best way of us surviving is for Lerner to get shut of him at 4.45pm today.

Get Sid and KMac in for the Spurs game. They would instantly take the shackles off the players, fans will fill Villa Park, it'll be a party atmosphere and we'll  get the points we need to stay in the div. Happy days.
