Title: Villa All Black's
Post by: BegbieAV on April 12, 2012, 06:31:33 PM
I don't think we have had a black keeper, so this is my all black Villa team.
RB Earl Barrett, LB J Lloyd Samuel, CD Ugo Ehiogu, CD Paul McGrath, RM Ashley Young, CM George Boateng, CM Nigel Reo Coker, RM Ian Taylor, ST Dwight Yorke, ST Dion Dublin. Can you do any better?

Tayls in CM instead of the legend, with Young and Daley on the wings. Gabby instead of Dube. Imagine as a defender having to face Gabby, Yorke, Daley and Ash?

As an aside we were discussing in the pub the game against Everton (?) where we had nine black players. Can you name them? Winner gets a biscuit.

We could do a Heroes and Villains Troll First XI. Starting with ACWilliams in goal.

Wouldn't he be the manager? He was determined to become the first disabled premier league manager or some such if I recall. Or was it the first virgin premier league manager? I forget.

Searched it out on matchbase. Daley also scored, which I had completely forgotten about. That game was over 20 years ago!

So from that link only seven of the players then, perhaps I'm thinking of a different match but I remember the papers making a big thing of it at the time, whatever the opposition.

Are you calling the people posting on here racists? Because I'd be interested in finding out why you think that.

If you can't see a difference between this thread and what happened at Liverpool, where someone was insulted due to their race, then I'm surprised. Presumably the MOBOs are racist in the music industry too, going by that principle?

You can not be half white or half black or half yellow for that matter. A human being is born as a full person and all of us are many different shades. No two skin colours are exactly same.

Not a lot of stuff posted about on this board does matter, why should this be any different?

Are we that sensitive about race that we can't recall a game where we fielded more black players than any other team before?

Other than the fear that it will descend into something unsavoury what is the problem here?
Title: Re: Villa All Black's

Couple of points. Black is not race and if the sentiment here was to celebrate the fact that we helped and advanced acceptance of footballers who happened to be black than well and good however it should not even be an issue these days. it's not a freak show. The best 11 should be on the pitch every week whatever shade their skin colour.

That's not at all the point you made. You said the thread, not a specific post, was 'offensive' and asked whether it was turning into the Liverpool forum, thereby hinting that you found it racist.

I ask again, why is the thread 'offensive'? Pointless, ok you might think so but why 'offensive'? I'm asking out of genuine interest rather than being argumentative here.

It's a discussion about colour. As we are claret and blue we are a half breed entity! However some people have pointed out that we are complete "infusion" as there are bits of yellow, white and some black. So as you can see everyone is confused.

I thought how about we agree the important colours are whatever colours they used for the lettering `The Doug Ellis Stand`.
Then I realised I dont know the colours, probably because whenever I walked down Witton Lane I would subconsciously avert my eyes down.
So I just googled and checked. It appears the letters as you approach from Witton island are claret with a blue surround but the letters as you approach from the Holte Pub are just claret.
Whats all that about ? Why the inconsistency and blatant two faced approach to stand lettering ? Does Doug know about this ?

Not fully black.

It's a tricky one, especially when you've left your Dulux colour card in B&Q. How about :-

James
Barrett, Mcgrath, Ehiogu, Chan
Young (A), Taylor,  Reo-Coker,  Gervais
Dublin, Marx (K)

Whilst preserving the essential blackness of the team, it's still possible to find room for an oriental, a marxist and an arsehole from Reading.

Offensive thread......no place for this nonsense here

Whats offensive about it?

As an aside we were discussing in the pub the game against Everton (?) where we had nine black players. Can you name them? Winner gets a biscuit.
Mcgrath,Blake,Daley,Regis,Atkinson,Small,Yorke,Barrett,Ehiogu???

Don't think that's correct, but thought it was worth a go!

You sound like Edward Tattsyrup. ''We'll have no racism here, this is a local shop for local people''

Saw the title and assumed it was going to be a comprehensive list of New Zealanders to have played for Villa.

BTW, that Everton away game, it was definitely eight. How do I know despite the passage of time? Because the following Monday at work in West Bromwich, while walking through the factory, the natives were all frenziedly yelling eight at me and holding up eight fingers. I was confused at first because we won two-nil, but it was only later on that someone else told me what they were refering to.

Ah. there's a registered user "Olof'sBeard" with 218 posts.

I think there's a chance that could be my account too.  I had some password issues a while back, I've made a right shambles of it all!

If I delete that account, I could add the apostrophe. We'd have to confirm that it is your first. PM me with your 'real' name and E-Mail address(es) and I'll see if it marries up.
