1-1 Draw.  My Geordie mate reckons that they'll hammer us like last time.  I can't really see it being a great game so I'll predict a scrappy point.

4-2 Newcastle, them being 2 up after 10 minutes, us levelling it at half time through Bent and Keane then them hitting us late on the break twice.

To think we're apparently light years away from ever challenging for a Champions League place ever again when this shower are a couple of points off 4th at the moment.

Outside of the top 3 we really should be a match for anyone. A bit of organisation, players working their bollocks off for the manager and shrewd moves in the transfer market is all it takes. Hmm...maybe that combination at the same time is too much to ask after all.

Typically, we'll win up there having fucked-up the piss-easy game of the week.

They didn't have him last time we still got a pasting!

The stats say we're due a loss 'None of the last nine Premier League meetings between Newcastle and Aston Villa have been away wins.'

'Alex McLeish has won none and lost three of his five matches as a Premier League coach against Newcastle United'.

3-1 to them.

Think we need to try Lichaj or Baker at left back.

Ba will be back and they have Cisse looking to make his debut. Despite Wednesday's impressive 2nd half display, I can't see us getting anything up there, not that they're that good, I just feel it will be a nothing match and they'll get lucky. 2-0 I'm afraid.

A quick look on their forums about Sunday and for some reason they really don't like us, it may have something to do with this:

Quite. One or two seem upset that we celebrated their relegation in a manner that they would only have expected from Sunderland. They just fail to realise that whilst we did so royally take the piss, nineteen other clubs would have done the same, such is their joke status as both a club and fans. When you realise the Rags have won more than them over the last 50 years, you know you should never take them seriously.

If our midfielders and forwards can beat our defenders and the Newcastle team, then we will win. Or else it will be a three all draw, they score 3 in first half, sit back, then we come at them second half and a Keane, Bent and Ireland score to equalise.

I've a feeling N'Zogbia will be a big player for us in this game.  He played well against QPR and the goal will have boosted his confidence, plus there's always the 'old player retruns' syndrome.

However, 2-2 is my prediction as we'll not keep a clean sheet.

I think there is a bigger story at Aston Villa than their results under their manager Alex McLeish.

The only players they signed in January were Robbie Keane on loan and a young full-back called Enda Stevens. It appears it is all about profit and loss and the balance sheet at Villa Park, with chairman Randy Lerner saying 'we cannot spend more than we earn, end of'.

Consequently, you look at Villa and you see a mid-table side. People say they are a big club, but they're not. They were a big club but they aren't anymore, just like you could say Liverpool are not as big as they were. Those are the facts.

As for the game, Newcastle will have Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse back from the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be another boost for them.

Wednesday's win at Blackburn was a really important one for them. The Magpies didn't play well, and at times they were out-played but they still nicked an away win in the Premier League. I'm told that Fabricio Coloccini has been great as a captain, not just as a player, and they have got a great spirit in their squad. Well, they showed it at Ewood Park.

I thought Newcastle's form would drop off in the New Year but they have proved me wrong and done marvellously by winning four of their last six league games. I have to back them here.

Prediction: 2-0

The Gospel according to Lawro.A Villa win it is

This will be one tough game. Yet, when we're away we can be at our best so they will be expecting a tough game too.

If we can get a good game from our backs and and can counter with effect, I think we can win, 2-1. Bent brace.

I really fancy us to score, we look dangerous - at least for spells - in most of our games at the moment, plus we're breaking with more quality.

If we could just bloody defend we wouldn't be a whole lot different from our MON days. But we're making so many mistakes.

I'm just in from the pub and just had a great chat with a Spurs fan I never met before. He was about 58 or so and we had such a great chat. He really admires the villa. He said we have a beautiful name, a great tradition and have something nobody can ever take away from us, our European Cup. He fears Spurs could be in danger of falling back over the next few seasons and agreed with me that the PL era has been bad for great clubs like Villa.

I don't know why I am sharing this, but you know how it is after a few pints!

I'm not gonna make a prediction but I reckon this could be a very exiting game.  Remember when Villa met Newcastle and MON was charge with Allardyce for them?  Well, this will be nothing like that.  Bring it on I say! I'd give Nathan Baker a go at left back.

Exiting game? Who are you thinking may be for the exit. Warnock and Eck must be the favourites at pitch level. In the stands, let's hope it will not be Villa fans who braved freezing weather to see yet more soft goals conceded, leaving early to follow snow ploughs down the A1...

We have nowt to fear against Newcastle except our defence.  All guns blazing is our best bet and if we do it we have the players to batter them.  Also, it's about time we sorted them out for the humiliation last season.

Yeah, Angel got 23 or something in all competitions and 17 in the league, I think.

I believe Darren Bent will be the next to do it for us and is at least capable of it.
Who knows, it could be this season.

didn't Yorkie get 20 league goals one season??

I'm just in from the pub and just had a great chat with a Spurs fan I never met before. He was about 58 or so and we had such a great chat. He really admires the villa. He said we have a beautiful name, a great tradition and have something nobody can ever take away from us, our European Cup. He fears Spurs could be in danger of falling back over the next few seasons and agreed with me that the PL era has been bad for great clubs like Villa.

I don't know why I am sharing this, but you know how it is after a few pints!

UTV!
Despite the Venom all thing spurs gets on here, they have a lot of very decent supporters, no where near as arogant as the ARse

Based on form and defensive fraility, it could well be 0 points from the next 2 matches, then it is Wigan & Blackburn & Fulham & Bolton. Those four games will really show whether anyone at the club cares about us or not.

Care to explain that last comment? - are your referring to the players' commitment or something more subtle? And who is the "us"?

NothIng new there then :)

I think Newcastle has dodged a lot of ths worst of the bad weather so it'll be bear guts on show as per usual I guess.

Still have a feeling we'll win - be a great weekend if we do what with you'd Baggies losing.

6-0 Newcastle with a Carroll hatrick. Oh hang on. Geordies 3-1. Would take a point but not confident.

is Gabby fit or what?

I hope to see a change at LB or RB tomorrow. Not because I wish bad on Hutton or Warnock, but because I feel its time for McLeish to finally put his foot down and show to the team that it needs to be better. Given the amount of players in the squad who seem to commit reckless tackles regularly, I hope with the snow tomorrow we can keep all 11 on the pitch.

I feel a lot of drama coming from this one, but I think we'll nick it.

I think some of Wednesday's frustration will roll over into this game - they've been resting on their laurels for a few weeks, we'll take them apart limb by limb. Keano will cause an avalanche at the Gallowgate as he does his third somersault of the afternoon - 5-1 Villa.

Reckon we'll scrape a point. Obvious reasons- its gonna be a tough hard fought match and our away form being better than our home form, we might be able to hold on.

2-2 my prediction

I have just read that Villa haven't scored from a corner this season. I had heard this before, but to see it in print makes you think that the set piece chapter from our training manuel is being utilised as bog paper during this cost cutting period.

agreed, Just saying. I dont know what we have been doing wrong but im glad changing it up bought a bit of fruition. I remember when we had Laursen and Mellberg at the back, I honestly thought we would score from every one, corners were cheered like we had won a penalty almost. Now i just get worried we will get hit on the break.  Why are Dunne and Collins so bad at converting?

One thing I have to see, and that's the Geordie boys stripped to the waist in this weather, showing there glorious man boobs and 86inch waists.

Have to say it, Newcastle for all 3, we have been getting away with 45mins of decent football to save us of late, Newcastle will be a different proposition and we will have to put in a full shift to make any impact, hope I'm wrong, just can't see Villa are set up for this.

C'mon you Villa boys, even a point would do the trick.

We have lost our best corner takers. We no longer have the likes of Young, Downing, Milner, Barry etc as corner taking options. Petrov's corners are dreadful but we have very few options

Albrighton, N'Zogbia, Ireland, Bannan, and while he's here, Keane should be taking them. I don't Stan should take another corner whilst he's at the club. He barely beats the first man.

I don't think he's ever made that point before, and I was under the impression that he considered us on a par with Barcelona and the 1970s Brazil team.  This has come as a huge shock to me, as you can imagine.

I thnk Villa must have hurt Lawro at some point.
Maybe he reads us calling him a slouching, potbellied, BHS shirt wearing, bollocks-talking, cock dusting, camp gobshite.
I hope so anyway.

We'll always be the orginal big club even if we're not always a force on the field, fuckface. Deal with it.

Now, has anybody got any old wire coathangers and a vat of runny pigshit?
