No Bent, are the rumours on Twitter. I reckon that means Heskey with Bannan playing behind him. Not many goals in that lineup! But at least Heskey can hold the ball up.

Bench probably@ Marshall, Clark, Cuellar, Delph, Ireland, Fonz, Weimann

Great opportunity for Delph - I really hope he can make an impression today.  He's had such bad luck with being out injured so this is his chance.  And for Delfounesco to make his mark.  Fingers crossed!

Christ what an awful side.  I cannot see us putting more than 5 passes together.  The defence is going to be under the cosh from word go  Heskey starting is criminal.   Herd, Clark, Bannan and Weimann should be in the team.

Yet again 2 soft goals from corners and you can bet mcleish will field the same defence week in , week out, awful shambles and clark and cuellar should be in ahead of collins and hutton on weds but we know it wont happen.

This game is lost already because these players have little heart or fight in them.

Totally inept defending. Seems clear Villa haven't a clue about defending set pieces, you have to conclude the defence coaches are either useless or the defenders are unable to follow instructions.

AM must be on his way out early in the New Year, as after the next few games we will be hovering around the bottom four. Lerner will again have to admit Villa's method of picking a manager and giving him a lengthy contract is not the way forward unless the manager is a top class one, and they aren't going to come to B6 in our present position, both football wise or financially.

Just got in (playing 'catch up' on the old Sky+) and have watched the goals a couple of times. It really is very poor defending indeed, there is nothing there from Liverpool that should be causing any half-decent defense any trouble. One sloppy goal and you can understand it, but it's happening again and again and again. Not to change things, or to see any sign of improvement in that area, only points to poor coaching and management, in my opinion.

And now I have to go and get the tree out of the attic.

That's the thing though. Until he actually does the current defensive bollocks will continue. The current players have almost no fear of losing their place. It breeds complacency. The last time this group of defenders were criticized or dropped they tore up a hotel.

Actually it was Hutton who should follow Skrtl, but he looks down, then up and he is in front of him. Lack of concentration IMO. (like all other corners).

Downing has been playing unusually well.

dont think so. bellamy on the other side has been far more lively I think. Liverpool arent even playing that well but we are so crap they dont have to.

there is one thing mcleish could do to improve things. let heskey leave on a free transfer at half time. honestly we play with 10 men when he is on the pitch.

Who the hell would want him?

They didn't want to play for the last one either. Perhaps we should just let the players pick the manager, then they can have a lovely time not training too hard. Or alternatively, and this would be my preferred option, the majority of them can just sod right off and we can play the youth team.

In fairness to McLeish (and I winced as I typed that), these useless bastards out on the pitch didn't want to play for Houllier either, or O'Neill in his last season. They're bone idle.

We have:

A bunch of players who seem happy to pick up their wages for doing fuck all
A manager who's had his team relegated twice in 3 years
A chairman who seems to have lost his wallet.

The future looks grim.

Houllier got it spot on. He knew we had to get rid of this defence. They cannot do the simple things like retain possession of the football well at all. You surely shouldn't have to teach that to professional footballer. I've seen McLeish go mental on the touchline when he's seen this, and while he has to share in some of the blame, you to feel for him a little bit because his hands are tied for the next couple of years in trying to move the crap out, and bringing new players in. However, having said that he certainly hasn't helped himself by picking the same players week in, week out.

I believe the choices of the chairman post the O'Neill walk out are the main reasons we are currently in this position.

Martin O'Neill was the type of manager who could get the best out of very ordinary players (Dunne, Collins and Warnock) are such players. All managers since cannot motivate them to perform, which is why Houiller wanted them out.

The majority of this team's senior players are just going through the motions to pick up their pay. Until we get a manager who will kick their arses and can motivate the team, we are only going one way, and it isn't up.

Maybe they fancy the Championship and competing for a Championship medal, because they aren't going to win anything in the top flight and we are not going to have a good cup run with this lot. Even the Gassers in Bristol will be a threat.

IF I am a oil rich billionairne and bought the club I would flog every player apart from

Albrighton, Clark, Given, Bent and Agbonlahor and Garner and young prospects and bulid a completely new team and overhaul coaching staff and reinvent Aston Villa. We probably need 100 millions pounds plus money generated from sales to overhaul the team.

Delph needs to go on loan to a championship club probably with a view to a permanent deal.

Bannan has been Blues since the drink driving incident too.

difficult for our younger players to come into a struggling side but if they cant make the step up at 19, 20 or 21 then its not looking too good for them. But to be honest I'm not sure about Bannan, Albrighton, Weimann, Fonz etc. Clark I think is the one with the best chance. Its why we need to get him into the side or send him on loan. Watching us play badly isnt doing him any favours. Herd will an option for us certainly as he has the physical attributes to make it in the EPL anyway but again he is fairly limited on the ball.

It's the end of MON's group of players. Petrov will keep going to the end of the season but he cant do it in a 2 man midfield any more. Cuellar is on the way out. It is Dunne's last season too Id say. Warnock is dreadful really, he has improved a bit from last season but he is piss poor and needs shifting. Heskey and Beye are just drawing their wages until the end of the season. Next season our squad will be hugely different but unless Lerner has rediscovered an interest in soccer then it will be stacked with even worse players. Jermaine Jenas on loan types of deals or Alan Huttons.

We wont go down this season unless Gabby gets a bad injury. But we wont be far off.

Until a new buyer is found then it really is proud history bleak future for the club. Right back to the end of DOL's time in charge.

If Lerner and the rest of the Board can't see the danger signs after today's performance, I can only assume their statement about Europe from Faulkner was some sort of stupidity and lost them even more credibility.   >:(

The loss of Premiership status and its revenue must surely loom large in their minds for next year and maybe there is some hidden agenda in reducing expenditure to meet this more than likely prospect. After all they appointed a second tier manager, who's more comfortable in the lesser leagues.   ::)
