I know it's stupid, but it's the eve of the Man United game, and I'm wondering if anyone going is planning to give him any stick.
I think it'll be really interesting to hear the reaction he gets.
-
I'll either ignore him or give him a half hearted clap. I have no doubt there will be plenty of folks booing and giving him stick though.
-
At Man City earlier this season the Villa fans cheered Milner, even applauding his goal, and booed Barry. I think and hope that Young will get treated like Milner (though I'd draw the line at applauding if he were to score), whereas Downing - if he makes the team when Liverpool come - will get the Barry treatment
-
I would imagine that Will gets plenty.
-
I'll be really disappointed if Ashley gets anything less than full respect.
He stuck around here until he got an offfer that nobody in their right mind would have rejected, and regardless of what you think of his form, he never once looked like he didn't give a shit, something which you couldn't say about a few of our squad now.
It'll be embarassing if he gets any stick.
-
I think he will be respected.
-

;) Nice.
I can't imagine many would be overly keen to boo Young. He left us on decent terms, we got a fair price for him and he went to a club that should realistically be challenging for a number of trophies. He needed a change and the platform he now has to improve is one that I think he deserves.
-
I do not respect him but I never resort to booing in any case.
-
I love this cross and goal and the look on Ashley's face as screams at the fans. And no, I won't be booing.
-
I wouldn't boo him, but i'm too much of a bitter old git to give him an ovation.
-
i work on the basis that if I was booed by the fans of a team that I used to play for I would do everything to ram it back down thier throats, regrdless of how i have felt about ex players i have never booed them, i could make an exception for downing though
-
He shouldn't get any stick whatsoever. He's been the best out of the lot.
1. Ashley Young - Gave us 4 years of service. Went to Man Utd and remained professional. Still says good thing about us. Cool lad.
2. James Milner - Gave us little service, but was our best player by miles and shown a professional attitude throughout.
3. Gareth Barry - Gave us 10 years of service, but wasn't professional about the way he left.
4. Stewart Downing - Just awful. We saved his career, helped him recover, was terrible throughout the first season, came good in the second season and then fucked off as soon as he was in the limelight at this club.
I'm hoping everyone is saving themselves for Downing. This no bottle coward deserves more abuse than Barry.
-
I too cannot wait for the return of Downing the rotten little rat, when the full wrath of VP should reign down on him. The Liverpool fans up here are starting to comment on his commitment to tackles and his poor performances which I stir up at every opportunity!
As for Young, he shouldn't get stick and if he does, it won't be from me, it will be from the back of the holte probably. Won't be applauding him though. He plays for them not us.
-

100% agree. He gave everything until the very end. We miss him massively in more ways than just his playing ability.
-
I still have alot of man love for Ash (it hurts not being able to call him our Ash any more) he played as a supporter would play, working his bollocks off in every game and celebrating his and team mates goals like they meant alot to him, especially the two derby wins at St Andrews and the late winner at Westham last season that pretty much saved us, Im pretty sure he'll recieve a great welcome back.
-
Suppose its only me that read the title and thought it was a query regarding Will Youngs sexual preference?
-
Who can forget this?
-
My last Ash memory was him running over to celebrate Gabby's winner against West Ham with the away fans.
He seemed to genuinely love playing for us and I think he'll get maximum respect.
-
I hope no one boos Ash. We'd look like twats. He got a bit too big for his boots last season, but you could never fault his effort. At least he tried to make things happen - we're crying out for that sort of confidence now. Oh, and although I tend to agree that booing a player merely spurs him on to ram it down our throats, we don't need to worry about that with Downing. What's he gonna do? Make a tackle? Put a decent cross in?
-
I would imagine that Will gets plenty.
waheyyyyy!!!!!!!!!
-

-
Not from me I am sorry he left Villa but understand why.
But when Downing comes back lets give him hell.
-
Still don't get why Gazza Bazza excites so much animosity - he gave us the lions' share (lions - geddit?!) of his career and played through thick and thin for us. After 11 seasons, I think he earned the right to do what the hell he wanted.
Young WILL get verbals from the numptys, but like others here I think he did alright by us.
I just hope his crossing is as bad today as it was in his last two seasons.
-
Not from me I am sorry he left Villa but understand why.
But when Downing comes back lets give him hell.
This.
-
He won't get any abuse from me I still like him
Saying that I'll be in the pub and he wouldn't hear me anyway
-
I'll applaud him before the kick off, he deserves that at least, but that's about it, i hope he has a terrible game.
-

Sums it up perfectly. I hope Young gets a great reception and that Downing gets the 'welcome to hell' treatment he deserves whenever he plays against us.
-
I think that he'll get a decent reception.
However, if he starts stumbling about in the box or does his "hands on knees, are my legs going to ever work again pose"; then he might get some stick
-
I booed Yorke but won't boo Young. I think this means I've accepted our place in the pecking order now. Downing though, he'll cop a load. And as for the fucking Sunderland manager...
-

When we had to decide which match to attend this month the fact we could boo Downing was part of the equation for our decision - we are trying to biook our Sunderland tickets now ;-)
-
The test is when he takes a corner in front of the Holte. I really hope he gets a good recepton.
-
Ash will get a good reception from me. Gave his all when he was here, was exciting and frustrating in more or less equal measure, but always put in a 100% shift. He went on to genuinely better things for all the right reasons, and his parting was amicable and professional.
Downing on the other hand is a cnut of the highest order and will get dog's abuse from me throughout the Liverpool game.
-
I booed Yorke but won't boo Young. I think this means I've accepted our place in the pecking order now.
Of all the high profile departures during the premier league era, the ongoing reaction to Dwight's returns was deeply embarrassing. Our helping him launch his career was more than balanced with what he gave back to the Villa.
Ashley's not fit to lace Yorkie's boots in my opinion, but I hope that he gets a good round of applause.

Yorke got a bit of applause on his last return with Sunderland.

This.
-
I'll give him the welcome he deserves for giving us 4/5 (?) years good service. It didn't always come off for him, but you couldn't question his desire and commitment (one of the reasons Man Utd signed him).
However, as soon as he dives, as he so often did for us, then I will give him the same abuse I gave him when he did it for the Villa, when he should've stayed on his feet.
-
I won't boo him - I'm sure he'll be a model professional and won't celebrate his goal (s) however Stuart Downing is another matter. I reckon he'll develop an injury and won't even travel to Villa Park.
-
Provided he treats us with respect I see no reason to give him stick. He has always been respectful to us and gave us good service.
-
Ash, I'll treat with indifference as he doesn't play for us. I'll remember him with fondness when he's retired. Downing is going to get dogs abuse from everyone. In fact I hope he gets Huttonated !
-
Young will get a respectful clap. Downing will get dogs abuse, the little ******.
-
Downing=Wanker
Young=100% professional when representing AVFC.Deserves a good reception.
-
Good servant. Gave us some great memories, really embraced the club, never said anything negative about us. It was a joy watching him mature here.
We made a profit out of him and (reading between the lines of his contract situation) he let us know well in advance he wouldn't be signing a new deal and would look to move on in the Summer.
It's a shame he had to move on, but his aspirations no longer matched the clubs so he had to go.
-
If you have to lose a player it should be the way Ash left. Downing the absolute reverse, used the club and took the piss from the day he came to the day he went.
On the subject of Dwight Yorke I would be more inclined not to think so badly of him if he had ever acknowledged what Villa had done for him and not behaved as though he had wandered into the Theatre Of In Your Dreams like Beattie did at Ipswich with his boots in a brown paper bag tied up with string asking if he could have a trial.
-
I think Yorke did acknowledge the part Villa had played in his career, and said he still considered himself to be a "Villa fan" before his last appearance at Villa Park as a Sunderland player. Hence the thawing of attitudes towards him. Plus time is a great healer and all that.
Still can't stand Bosnich though!
-
Nothing but admiration for young. He will get a warm welcome from me. And applause at the end of the game. Obviously I hope he doesn't score or set any goals up for them as it would be a bitter pill to swallow. Nothing but a pro at the club and deserve to be acknowledged as such by us. Definately no booing.
-
Playing Man u next week and seeing Ash today brought back the memories
Hes on Channel 4 later - the 18 Million Pound Drop. ;)

Today's the first time I've seen him properly dive for them.
He used to do it pretty much every week for us.

Why? How often do you think he gets kicked and the referee doesn't give it or see it?
-
Plenty, but watch this:
Young's blatant dive (http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/wayne-rooney-manchester-united-v-qpr/)

When I saw it I thought he merits the high board event at the London job thing in the summer.
-

Young's blatant dive (http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/wayne-rooney-manchester-united-v-qpr/)
Yes it was a dive. But its as much of a deterrence against being hacked by defenders, you know, 'go in and I'll go over'. Defenders are either always pulling shirts, holding shirts, kicking, going through, claiming the ball ball did/didn't off them, handling the ball, diving (see John Terry) themselves.
I have absolutely no sympathy with footballers. The problem is that we're talking about professional football. You're paid to do a job and with that the more you win the more you and your club get back. That is then reflected in your pay packet.
Its not something people like and understandably so but unless we go back to an amateur age then it will always be there. I accept it as part of the game. However, if its ludicrously bad (dives to win penalties for example) then it should be punished accordingly.
Sagna dived and feigned injury for Balotelli's first yellow in an attempt to wind him up and get him sent-off yet that is overlooked. Same with Van Persie/Hutton earlier at Villa.
It seems that diving/cheating is accepted elsewhere on the pitch and not commented on unless its a forward doing it.
-
Diving really doesn't bother me. In fact I find it quite admirable.
(Not so) fair play to Ashley.
-
I'll be really disappointed if Ashley gets anything less than full respect.

100% agree. He gave everything until the very end. We miss him massively in more ways than just his playing ability.
Me too. Gave everything for Villa for four years, was our best player most of that time, and never complained about anything. Left to further his career/play at a top club, and good for him. Since leaving he only ever says good things about the club. Model professional.
-
Today's dive was embarrassing but not as embarrassing as the officials' failure to spot both the blatant offside and the dive, and then compound the error by giving a ludicrous red card. Same ref who gave is fuck all against Chelsea last week, falling for Terry's dive when Gabby was clean through? Not very good is he? Demotion should follow, but probably won't.
-
I hope it will do. Surely there are officials out there assessing performance and competence?
-
to be honest I like wil young and some of his songs so i wont be giving him stick :P
-
He should get some applause - he gave us good service, never let us down and never slagged us off. He went to the best Club in the country and we got good money for him. So no problems with him at all.
Downing can have dogs abuse mind the little weasal.
-
Ash always gave 100% to Villa and left us with some great memories. He was also respectful when he left and provided us with good service, he should be applauded and not given any stick.
-
Very good player for us and gave his all, a bit petulant at times and yes he does dive but good luck to him at united- he earned his move and was outstanding for us during his time here- no booing from me .
-

Totally agree with both comments, especially the Wearside twat.
-
I wonder how much praise he'll get on Sunday, if he dives to win a pen again. He's a good, hard working player, but a disgusting cheat..
I wish he was still here.

Well I have no problem with Will Young providing he serenades Alex McLeish with this
&ob=av2e
With a bit of luck the whole Villa attendance can join in.

Well let me think Eddie Stobart is going to appear on Ice Road Truckers, I may struggle with that baby.
I think your being a little harsh there David, after all why should the notion of Will Young serenading our Alex be an anti sentiment, I think Will would also be offended by that and just to show my good intentions in this thread I further recommend the Villa faithful burst into a new anthem on the day with........

Debate over. After that dive today, none of us at the match have any time for the cheating twat.

Lost all respect for the prick now.

Fuckin little ******, maybe the Fa should look at these divers and deduct points, that'll put a stop to it, fair play my arse

Well posted. It proves he is a twat without redemption.
-
He did exactly the same when he was here, and quite a few defended him for it.
-
He's a horrible cheating little bastard who can go to hell now. Anything he did for us is forgotten.
-
Classless ******.
-
ashley young is now dead to me after that, i have forgotten everything he had ever done for us, on the plus side 2 blatant dives from young within the space of 7 days will get him into trouble as his card will be marked by certain refs, it also proves irrefutably that man u get away with cheating week in week out by increasingly gutless officials.
que a de jong leg breaking tackle in the manc derby for which young will get booked for diving
-
I don't know why people are so shocked. That's what he spent most of last season doing for us, admittedly without gullible refs pointing to the spot.
-

not shocked he does it but AMAZED he did it to us, i thought he still had a fondness for us and got slapped in the face.
what he did was as below the belt as leaving your barron wife then a year later asking her to baby sit yours and your new mrs child
-
Young was booed for cheating by our fans in his last game for us. I can't think of any other players who have had that treatment. He is sunk without a trace.

Ashley Young is an absolute DISGRACE. He's the biggest cheat in the league. His antics are a joke”

Someone with the technical knowledge needs to start a cheat/dive thing on Youtube and start to "out" these fuckers. Young cheated, Halsey, who is a wanker of the highest degree, fell for it. If the F.A. can't be bothered to do somethinjg about it, then maybe the fans can. Youtube the divers!!

To be perfectly honest I don't think Halsey fell for it. He knew, just like everybody else knew, that it was a dive but it was always going to be given.

Well if he knew it was a dive why didn't he book him and award us a free-kick?
-
Congratulations Ashley, you've joined the c***s Club, previously only populated by Steve Hodge and Nigel Callaghan. As a former captain of our great club you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself for that embarassingly blatant dive. I hope you get what you deserve in life and I look forward to welcoming you back to Villa Park, whenever that may be.

I highly doubt that he knew it was a dive and still gave the penalty. I mean, if that's going on then we're pretty much on the verge of match-fixing.

He always was a fucking little cheat, even when he was with us.
-
He always wa a fucking little cheat, even when he was with us.
I and quite a few others were saying so when he was with us. Yet there were many making all sorts of excuse for it. It's why I never really took to him, despite his obvious ability and hard work, I can't stand to see players doing that, and I especially can't stand to see Villa players doing it. He's a cheating little tosser and always has been. But you have to blame the refs who are either incompetent or simply favour certain teams and players regardless of bad it looks. And the FA who quite unbelievably and laughably upheld the QPR red card last week. If they are exonerating that kind of dive with the benefit of replays and slow mos you have to wonder what the fuck is going on.

The Fulham non-penalty and the 2 Young dives in the past 3 games at Old Trafford, at what point does it go past being a coincidence?

It was such a blatant dive, as was last week's that you'd have to have been Stevie Wonder not to have seen it. Given the sums of money now involved, no-one should be surprised if match fixing and ref nobbling goes on. However I suspect it's more to do with refs being intimidated/scared to give anything against the big boys than anything sinister. Just a bunch of bottlers. Having said that, the "goal" Martin Atkinson just gave to Chelsea in the semi really does make you wonder.
-
Incompetence?
-
It is The Theatre of Dreams after all. Clubs like ours should stick to the script and keep quiet.
-
Incompetence?
Your probably correct.
-
He always was a fucking little cheat, even when he was with us.
Yep. We've benefited often enough from his cheating antics to have little complaint about today, unfortunately. My only annoyance is that he felt it necessary to cheat against his old club. He saw us as little more than a stepping stone though.
-
The ref was a cnut as well . I honesty thought yellow card for diving and then forgot who the referee was.

Exactly.he does a better dive than Tom Daley.c.nt

Agreed. I said the same tonight. They can get red cards rescinded so why not get done for cheating. I am disappointed at reports that our players were hugging the twat at half time.

2 match ban as it'll definately have an effect on the manager and player. Should go to a panel and report should be published regardless of it being given or not during the game.

Just goes to show what a classless wanker he is doing that against a club where he likely has many good friends and spend the largest part of his career to date. He's a scum bag and everything else said on here. Shame Hutton didn't cripple the vile little tosser.

Not all reds like him either, this is a comment from my mate at work when we were discussing the game via email.
'I’ve not said this before (even when Ronaldo was here) but happily wave goodbye to Ashley Young because of his theatrics! It’s not welcome. He’s being slated by all the united fans on united forums too!'

It's obviously not a good thing, but why is diving any worse than any other sort of cheating?
Defenders are fully expected to pull shirts, barge at corners, clip heels, lean on an attacker just enough to make him lose balance without him falling over...
If defenders are going to cheat, I don't see why the strikers shouldn't and you don't see any sort of moral indignation when someone tugs a shirt on the edge of the area.
To phrase it better without plagiarising:
"In England at least, defenders have somehow created a moral monopoly on cynicism in football. When a defender tugs a player back, happy to take a yellow card in order to stop a promising break, it's described as 'using his experience', or 'being quite clever there', or any one of an array of euphemisms. Never 'cheating', which is what it is. Only forwards are capable of 'cheating', thereby making them a 'disgrace' and prompting calls for all kinds of ridiculous punishments as 'the only way we'll stamp out this blight on our game"

This a very good point.
I must admit I will sometimes take the moral high ground when something has happened against Villa.
Then there has been instants in a game I have played on a Sunday morning myself and I've done something like pulled shirts, slyly blocked a off the ball runners run and generally anything you can get away with.
It has been going on for years really, we just get more cameras to spot it.

I dislike Ashley Young with a passion. In all honesty I didn't like him much in his last couple of seasons here. He annoyed the hell out of me. It's just diving. It pisses me off. I respect some people call it playing the game and winning your team FK's and PK's is good, but so, so often he'd run into good positions for us and instead of stay on his feet and try and get an extra 2-3 yards for a chance on goal, he'd fall to the ground and wait for a refs whistle. One of my enduring memories of Ash is Everton. Sadly one of my other enduring memories is him sat on his arse with his arms in the air looking at the ref, whilst the opposition counter attacks us. Plus he always struck me as a billy big bollocks somewhat.
If not for all his falling over and fannying about, I truly believe he'd have hit 12-15 goals a season for us.
In 2007-08 when he was absolutely brilliant and was in the PFA team of the season, he didn't dive much and had I believe the most assists (or close to) in the league. He was sensational and he didn't dive. I liked that he stayed on his feet and ran at people. He was a winger who could cross left foot, right, take people on, deliver exceptional set pieces. Every passing season after that he became a little less effective each year. A little less confident in running at people. His delivery ever more erratic. For me, he was poor for us last season, particularly in comparison to the last 2-3 years. In part playing in the hole didn't help nor under Houlliers poor side.
I just don't see the skill in what he did to us on sunday, and against Wigan. It's pathetic and it ruins games as a spectacle when players do crap like that. I actually don't miss Young playing for us anymore. At least not the Young of 1-2 years ago. I do miss the Ash of 3-4 years ago however. When you're in the final 3rd and you need to keep the football and keep possession, it's so annoying watching a player fall easily and then often not get the freekick. Refs became a little wise to Ash for us. I do think however he gets away with it more because he's at Utd and gets more freekicks because too many refs favour the bigger clubs.
By the same token though, he pays the price of doing at Utd, because there he gets a name for himself. He didn't have a really big reputation for being a diver when he was here. A few may have picked on it, but not the majority. We all noticed it of course. At Utd though it's suddenly very much back page and in the forefront of discussion right now.
