I think we will lose and lose heavily (on balance of play if not goals scored like at Spurs) but that is to be expected in all honesty. I just hope and pray that we're reasonably positive and try to play football and I hope that the Tumbling Bear is given a rest.
Eck will probably play Hutton in midfield in front of Cuellar to counter the threat of Andrei Kancheksis.
1-0 Villa, Bryan Small to score a cracker in his annual Manyoo run-out.
It is very noticeable that all of AM's statements (see OS today about the December games) are about defending and tackling. Not about passing the ball and threatening the opposition, to keep them on the back foot. Oi, Big Eck: attack is the best form of defence.

We haven't lost against Man Utd at home for quite a while now.
A tiny defeat would be bad. A massive defeat would be unacceptable.
If he sets us up to defend all the way through the game then he's gonna get hear what it's like to be in hell.

12 ppl voted Villa win? They're either deluded or extremely optimistic! :D
2-1 loss.
SAF will field the reserve side, who'll stroll around at a snail's pace passing the ball to each others, while we are afraid of crossing the center line. Absolutely nothing will happen.
So after 70 minutes he puts on Nani and/or Hernandez, and Man U scores.
Then Man U really take the piss, letting us back into the game, and Gabby scores.

Yes. and then The Hut 'neutralises' Rooney and we go ahead with a fantastic bit of midfield magic followed by a cross from the wing (Gabby) to Bent.
And completely own them with a trademark Gabby goal, beating everybody on the way, with help from CNZ.

Yeah, right, while Heskey applauds from the touchline.
Villa to go seven-nil up then just about hang on to win after conceding six goals in the last twelve minutes of injury time.
McLeish to be criticised by everyone for being too cavalier and not looking to shut up shop after our seventh (Heskey's fourth) went in.
GivenCan't argue with that team.

I wish!!!
Unexpected 2-1 victory for the Villa.
I get this nagging feeling we will win this 2-1, no idea why.
Big Eck, did you see Palace at Man Ure? Expected to lose by at least 5 goals, they kept and passed the ball and attacked from the start. If Dougie Friedman had a player like Heskey in his squad, he would not have played him. Football is a simple game, y'see.
We're gonna get the backlash of the Newcastle and Crystal Palace games, I'm afraid.
Or on the other hand this might be the start of Man Ure's slow and steady decline from their high horse.
I wouldn't, I'd absolutely love them to be second best to City. Despise them
Rather them on a high horse than City.

I bet Sir Alex wishes he was on something today.
Crisis Palace, ho ho ho, is that smoothie with the highlighted hair that thinks he's gods gift still the chairperson of them....
As always there is a danger of treating the opposition with too much respect. They scraped a win against Swansea. Their reserves were beaten at home to a Crystal Palace team that had five non-first teamers playing. Their best eleven has been made to look pretty ordinary against one or two of the lesser sides of the Champs League. As a group of players they are not in the very best of form and I reckon they are not as good as they are cracked up to be. We need to be at them from the word go, giving them absolutely no space. Villa need to go into the match with the intention of attacking and winning-if we do that I reckon we can win it by the odd goal.
If we sit back or are in any way negative in our approach to this match then it will be, for me, totally unacceptable and I fear the boos would start a-ringing around Villa Park.

This one could get unpleasant. I do not like the idea of Young against Hutton, his brand of divey-in, overly-aggressive attempted fouling seems to me to play right into Ash's hands.

McLeish has been overly cautious so far while he remains, perhaps understandably, wary of making mistakes. This one is an oppoprtunity to let some of the shackles off and go for it a bit more in a game where expectations are (as the poll here suggests) low. Nothing to lose - lets go for it.
For me that means Bannan & Jenas must come in.
Come on AM pick the right team with a positive attacking formation and have a bloody good go at the fackers.I agree. But in all likelihood, we will stick with the outdated "in your face" attitude.
I get sick of the usual pre-match "there's no better feeling than beating United" or "United are the team to beat and we'll give it everything." We've been hearing that for 16 years or so and got nowhere. Other teams - lesser ones than us - can beat this prawn sandwich brigade and yet it baffles me how even with some of our better teams we've never managed to beat the buggers at home once. I hope the players and the management can actually back their words up with the right attitude and commitment to win and we can do them over. because far too often in the past we've made it oh so simple for them when they've not been at their best.
3-0 Villa win. Heskey getting all 3 and 'answering his critics'.
Bannan and Hogg (sounds like a small town firm of solicitors)
3-0 Villa win. Heskey getting all 3 and 'answering his critics'.
Whenever an especially pathetic feat is achieved in our house - like remembering to put the bin out, or finding some clean pyjamas, the triumphant person is said to have 'answered his critics...in the best way possible'. I believe that is the correct cliche.
unfortunately our manager has not worked out that the only way to compete in games with the top teams is to close down the space in midfield and put pressure on the ball
He seriously cannot pick Heskey for this game or ever again. Sackable offence.

He can and i think he will unfortunatley.
Is there anywhere I can put a bet on Ashley Young winning a penalty from Hutton?
Bannan, Herd & Jenas in midfield.
The thing is, Man U have been nowhere near their best recently. If we had a real go then we'd have a good chance of a result.
I just can't see us having the bottle to do so though.

I'm expecting Man Utd to be at full strength today with Rooney and Herandez up front, Carrick in midfield, Ashley and maybe even Nani on the wings. All the squad players had to play 120 minutes during the week. It will be tough but not impossible, we just need to grow a pair and have a go at them.
