Quality. The high point for me last year was the lad in the home end running the full legnth of the home section to offer the Villa fans out whilst thrusting his imaginary monster size penis backwards and forwards in a spectacular display! Once this parade of fierce aggression was complete he turned to revel in the applause of his adoring public!
Worth the entrance fee alone!
-
As sure as Tuesday follows Monday, Villa play Walsall in a pre-season friendly.
-
Can't wait. Love these fixtures.
-
The man stand before kick off a few years ago:
Scottish voice: "Is this your seat?"
Fletch: "Yes, but you can have it Mr Bremner."
-
Look forward to Villa v Walsall games really can't wait.
-
Went to this last year, think I'll be going again. Will probably sit with my Walsall supporting mate in the home end though. Last year there were more Villa shirts than Walsall in the Floors 2 Go stand.
-
Good stuff. I'll be there.
-
Looking forward to this. If there's tickets still available on the 7th I'll be there.
-
Is this Walsall's biggest game of the season?
-
I can see the top of the Floors2Go stand from my house, I might go and sit at the top of that and see if I can see my house.
-
I'll be there :-)
-
What sort of team do they put out normally?
-
Football team?
sorry
-
Not again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Still it may be the only team we beat this season...
-
I'll be there :-)
In Dave's house?
-
I'll be there, but given the number of times we've played them over the years, maybe playing someone like Kiddy would have been better.
-
Can't we ever play a friendly at the sodding week-end?
-
Can't we ever play a friendly at the sodding week-end?
Weekends are the perfect time to visit some obscure non-league ground.
-
Tamworth?
-
Good try Leeg, but I'm not biting.
-
Goes back to drawing board...
-
I will be there, first time I've bothered with this fixture to tell the truth, but with what looks like a lack of a home friendly this season I'm going!!! Should be fun!!
-
Looking forward to this. If there's tickets still available on the 7th I'll be there.
We always take shit loads to this but if there's none available in our end on the 7th you can pretty much pick what seat you want in there end.
-
I run the Wharf Bar in the town centre and I'm told we don't do too bad of a job....for Walsall anyway so anyone going into town for a drink do pop in and have a beer. We have got real ales, very reasonable prices and we are next to the canal so again for Walsall isn't too bad aesthetically speaking. We have a car park and are next to the Art Gallery.
We have our own cab firm too so can arrange a convoy of taxis to Bescot for £4 per cab.
Thanks for reading.
-
Do I get a press ticket again, Dave? I might be more awake this year!
-
If I order my tickets via the Villa website can I pick them up from Walsall on the night as I can't get to VP between now and the game. Thanks.

We did that last year, or was it the year before or even the year before that.

Might be worth phoning the Vila ticket office rather than relying on what might be the wrong information on here.

Won the last two visits I think.
-
Walsall 0-2 Villa. Bent & Gabby

What sort of team do you reckon we'll put out? I'd say the likes of Bent will only play 45 minutes max.
-
What sort of team do you reckon we'll put out? I'd say the likes of Bent will only play 45 minutes max.
Last season we played Carew, Wiemann, Albrighton, Clark, Bannan and Lichaj, so we're talking reserves usually. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see a front line with Delfouneso in it, and Gary Gardner in there somewhere.
-
I've never been to Walsall away before, as simple as getting the train from new st to Bescott Stadium station?
-
Yes
-
Just go off the platform, across the road and through the car park and you are there. Piece of piss.

Where's the best/safest place to park at Bescot Stadium these days?

Superb.
-
Thanks morrissey...but I live in Walsall so would rather not drive to Birmingham then get the train to Walsall and back again! lol
edit:
...and no, its too far to walk! :P

I come in mainly for the barmaids.
-
As has been said, we won't see much of the 1st team i reckon. 2-1 to villa
-
Where's the best/safest place to park at Bescot Stadium these days?
The shopping car park next to the ground has always been free and unlocked before.

I think it'll be a mix.
A few kids thrown in with one or two seniors Mcleish will want a look at, such as Warnock and Makoun. Will he play Given to get him used to a couple of defenders? Maybe something like
Given
Lichaj
Collins
Clark
Warnock
Albrighton
Makoun
Delph
Gardner
Delfouneso
Bent/Gabby - half each!
Prediction wise fuck knows, but I'll say 1-2 to Villa.
-
Outside the local Secondary school, just round the corner from the ground.
-
I'm 50/50 to go depending how my work day is...Can I pay at the gate on the night ?
-
Pressure's on Wolves beat them 3-2 last night ;)
-
I'd be surprised to see Bent play.

Boldmere St Michaels 3-2 Villa XI (http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2397839,00.html)
Villa's second string began preparations for the 2011-12 campaign with a defeat at Boldmere St Michaels, despite leading twice through Graham Burke and Janoi Donacien.
Kevin MacDonald took a young team to Church Road, with all of the 19-man squad getting vital match action under their belts.
It didn't take long for the claret and blues to find their groove as skipper Gary Gardner and academy star Darious Darkin threatened with early efforts.
And although MacDonald's side went away on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline, the contest was a valuable exercise ahead of another potentially exciting season for the club's reserve and youth sides.
This time last year Irish forward Burke earned the distinction of netting Villa's pre-season goal in a 2-1 defeat at Basingstoke - and he repeated the feat here against the Mikes.
On 14 minutes, Burke received possession on the left flank, skipped past his marker and powered an angled left-foot drive across Boldmere keeper Chris Gibson to put the visitors in front.
Two further Villa attempts followed in quick succession - Daniel Johnson's low drive creeping just wide, while a 30-yard piledriver from Gardner cannoned off the goal frame.
The non-league outfit, who went close early on when Donacien and Benjamin Siegrist combined to thwart Tom Overfield from six yards, levelled on 28 minutes through the first of two goals from striker Jozef Jakab.
Jakab reacted quickest to pounce on Overfield's flick-on and slot past Swiss keeper Siegrist.
But 10 minutes later Villa regained the initiative when Donacien supplied the final touch at the back post after teenage defender Richard Bryan steered Darious Darkin's cross back towards goal.
Reserve team manager MacDonald shuffled his pack in the second half in order to give his starlets the opportunity to step up their match fitness.
Replacement keeper Elliot Parish was called into action soon after the restart, showing tremendous agility to palm away Overfield's header.
However, Parish was beaten on 53 minutes as Jakab pounced on a loose ball before lifting his shot over the former England U20 custodian from a tight angle.
On 68 minutes, Overfield scored what proved to be the winning strike, beating the offside trap before keeping his cool to lob Parish from the edge of the penalty area.
The away side's best chances of the second period came courtesy of wing duo Josh Barton and Courtney Cameron.
Northern Irishman Barton cleverly weaved his way inside from the right touchline and drilled his shot wide across goal, while Cameron was inches away with an audacious 20-yard chip.
Villa's second string are in action again next Tuesday when they face Chasetown at the Scholars Ground [ko 7.30pm].
VILLA: Siegrist; Nelson-Addy, Bryan, Donacien, Caira; Lampkin, Gardner, Darkin, Cameron; Burke, Taylor. What ? Not 2-0 Villa ?
Are you trying a new tactic for 2011-12 Leeg ?
-
A new strategy during pre-season. Suck it and see...
-
Darious Darkin. What a fantastic name, could be straight out of a Victorian thriller.
-
I think Villa will squeeze this one and we'll all leave vaguely under-whelmed. 1-2 to the Villans.
What's the parking like around there, anywhere to avoid?
-
With our new hard to beat 4-5-1 formation i am going for a 1-1 draw Delfonso scoring
-
I think this will be suprisingly open.
4-1 to Villa.
-
Gardner played last night for 45mins so I don't think he will start but he will play, beye warnock ierland guzan and heskey will all start with the stronger players coming off the bench

Does he's inclusion in this 2nd string game mean he's not going to be involved at Walsall and maybe not in AM's plan for next season.
-
Should be a good laugh, my first time at this fixture - going with two mates.

I'm 50/50 to go depending how my work day is...Can I pay at the gate on the night ?
just rang Walsall, there are tix on sale cash on the turnstile

Usually get to this one but missing it as a mate's band are playing a gig at the Rainbow.
Have fun all!

I wouldn't think so. He only played the first half. He'll be going to Hong Kong and so will the likes of Johnson and maybe a couple of others I should think.
-
4-1 with bent 2, gabby, Bannan.
-
6-1 Villa win.
-
If we lose I reckon a lot of people will start sharpening their axes.
-
i remember going a few years ago when Merson was their manager. It was a great night, loads of old villa songs and a good atmosphere for a friendly. we must have taken 2-3000 over there.
Dunno about tonight! Everyone should look forward to watching the new signings!! sorry, signing! ;-)

Strong team

Be interesting to hear how some of them get on from those there.

I can't see that on the OS but if its correct, that looks like a first 11 having chance to prove themselves for Fulham away.

If that's the 'first team' Heskey's preferred to Gabby. There will be an irritating procession of changes though.

Ireland could be a quality fantasy football signing this year!
-
Ireland has been superb accordng to Pete Colley
-
nice to get the old match threads back underway-lets hope its the 1st goal of a high scoring season for young dazza.
-
Dunne looking svelte, Ireland playing well! This is good news!

Ireland and Heskey sound like they're linking up really well. Warnock sounds like he's raring to get back to his best too!

Hope it's nothing serious.

3-0!! Heskey scoresd as Bents shot comes back off the post! Good work from The Fonz!!
Defensive my arse!

It's walsall. And a friendly. Bit of perspective please. Encouraging, but it's a million miles away from proving anything.

boo you party pooper!
-
I'm one of the least pessimistic people on here, but I'm still not going to be doing handstands over beating a team like walsall. In much the same way, I wouldn't be claiming relegation was imminent if we were 2-0 down.
Hopefully Ireland's injury isn't too serious.

Yeah this. Its about fitness and getting to know the way there going to play. Still its nice to have a win

Bit of a wince of pain aparently, went straight to dressing room for treatment

its a bit of banter ger, no one is predicting miracles , as much as anything its nice to see the action under way again.
whatever results in friendlies the only real thing that matters is at fulham on opening day of course.

Looks like we're braced for a few changes. Ciaran Clark is stripped and ready for action. Andy Marshall is being warmed up by goalkeeper coach Rafa Gonzalez, while Habib Beye, Barry Bannan and Chris Herd seem to be getting ready too.

He also played 70 minutes last night against those footballing giants Boldmere St. Mike's. He was generally very tidy on the ball and Villa's best player onces Gary Gardner went off.
-
standing ovation for warnock according to wm.
-
Good to hear. It's about time he pulled his socks up.
-
Ireland injured or not trying a leg?

Ireland played very well before "feeling his hamstring".

I think he has a slight knock from training.

Can we play you every week?

The late goal demon returns :)

full time yet?
-
Finished 3 - 1.
-
Yep Eastie finished 1-3 and sounded like a very good run out, especially when you consider Walsall have had 2 or 3 friendlies already.
High praise coming for Ireland, shame about the twinge in his hamstring, if he stays fit he could be the new signing we're all craving!
The Fonz sounded very lively second half, just hadn't worn the rust off his scoring boots yet.
-
Fonz was on fire in the second half. Was thwarted about four times.
Good signs ahead. Young Burke looks to be continuing his meteoric rise.
Disappointed we didn't see Gardner, Delph, Hogg or Gabby tonight but we'll see them in the Asia cup hopefully. Theres still Weimann to come in too.
-
Fonz had two pretty easy chances, should have had a hattrick. Still looked very lively though.
Ireland looked excellent before he went off, linked up very well with Warnock. Albrighton had a bit of a stinker.
Heskey played very well on the left wing, who needs Ashley. *stickyouttonguething*
-
Very impressed with the kids. MOM Walsall Nutter.

Burke looked very impressive.

I thought Albrighton was excellent. Bannan needs to stop pissing about though cos he won't get that much time in the Prem. On the whole, one half impressive, the other workmanlike.
-
Decent start and some encouraging signs, Ireland being an obvious one and if he can build on that and maintain some sort of form a few problems are instantly solved. The killer pass he played for the second goal typified the player I thought we signed.
Hope Delph is alright.
-
What's up with delph?
-
Ireland played well until his injury - a not-serious hamstring we believe. Warnock looked good and Makoun ran well off the ball, which is obviously something we'll have to coach out of him.
Of the yoof, Johnson impressed and Delfouneso looked very good apart from his one on one miss.
All in all a useful workout.
-
Ireland played very well before "feeling his hamstring".
Taken off as a precaution!
-
What was the reaction towards Mcleish?
-
Minimal.
-
There wasn't really any reaction to McLeish, well I couldn't hear anything.
I think all in all the fans there tonight would be pleased with what they saw.

What's up with delph?
Still injured I presume

Good prediction, Legion. What a crowd, 7,170, with 6K+ from Villa. Good to wach a game of football where the result doesn't really matter and some encouraging performances from young and old
-
Ireland got injured right in front of us. He jumped for a header and landed awkwardly, started to feel his leg wincing a bit and was pretty much straight off. Played well, always looking for space and the ball. Very encouraging.
-
Cheers, I normally go to walsall just a ball ache on a school night and I had no lift :-(
I hope Delph can put his injuries behind him this season
-
Very impressed by Burke when he came on. Looked very confident and is definitely one to look out for.
-
MOM Walsall Nutter.
Which spawned the chant of the match:
"Special needs m'Lord, special needs."
Not PC but very good.
-
I also liked 'You're shit, even Heskey scored'
-
Ireland was excellent, some lovely through balls, you know, the one's we've been crying out for? Maybe McLeish also does hypnotism?
Defence were good both halves.
Bent is a natural, if only DelFonz was, he did all the hard stuff, got into all the positions, couldn't hit the proverbial cow's arse.
The team gradually morphed from a possible starting XI (and Heskey) into the yoof team, like the look of Johnson though, and not only the dreadlocks.

Oh, yes. I see this fruitball in Leamore on a regular basis. I think he lives in the William Hill betting office. Very strange person.

Excellent summation.
-
Fonz is definitely a good finisher. He'll get there.
-
Not today he wasn't. Awful 1-on-1 miss/great save by Jimmy Walker.
-
Fonz is definitely a good finisher. He'll get there.
Maybe, I hope so anyway. The fact that he gets into the right positions is encouraging.
-
-
The thing with the one on one is he shouldn't have looked to see if he was onside, should have just slotted it. Credit to the keeper though it was a great save, not Walker though, sub keeper in second half.
-
I think sometimes playing with seniors takes him out of the comfort zone and and when hes more relaxed hes more instinctive and lethal.
Once hes had more exposure to it he'll be fine. Better than fine, he's a wonderful talent.
-
Not Walker? Apologies.
-
Thanks.

The thing with the one on one is he shouldn't have looked to see if he was onside, should have just slotted it. Credit to the keeper though it was a great save, not Walker though, sub keeper in second half.
David Grof?
-
Lovely ball from Ireland. God, I hope he settles this season.

He made many more.
-
He even left the wall to try and meet the free kick with his head. In a friendly.
Encouraging.

Made me feel alot better about the new season, particularly in the practically new signings in Ireland and Warnock.

3,974 officially (presumably in the two stands) so make that about 4,500 in total.

If it's the same one I'm thinking off he was at Hibs a few years back and got done for drink driving?

The kit looks great!!!
-
No black socks though.
-
Very pleased with the win and workout.
-
Cheers Mr Kelly.
Surely that was a foul from Heskey for our third?
-
He even left the wall to try and meet the free kick with his head. In a friendly.
Encouraging.
My new hero.
-
Anyone know if that is the new Walsall home kit or the new away one?
-
Away.
And I assume the reason we didn't wear our black socks was because Walsall were wearing theirs.
-
A new strategy during pre-season. Suck it and see...
Wow............. a Leeg score prediction comes true
-
That's ok, Bent scoring x 2, Ireland interested. Given didn't concede a goal. A good start.
-
Fonz is definitely a good finisher. He'll get there.
Couldn't finish his dinner last night. Muffed an open goal and a 1 on 1 before burying a point blank header into the away end. Good approach play but he really isn't a finisher
-
A good workout but that's it for me, still think we're lightweight in the middle. On Fonz he's definitely a finisher, I'd rather him fluff the ones against Walsall as it means jack shit, I remember a Luke Moore scoring goals for fun in pre season and then did nothing when season started. Blackburn will be a good test.
-
Fonz had two pretty easy chances, should have had a hattrick. Still looked very lively though.
Ireland looked excellent before he went off, linked up very well with Warnock. Albrighton had a bit of a stinker.
Heskey played very well on the left wing, who needs Ashley. *stickyouttonguething*
Bannan needs to stop pissing about though cos he won't get that much time in the Prem.
Disagree with this totally, for heaven's sake it was only a freindly. I thought he was great. It's nice to see a kid of his age spraying the ball around the pitch. Not all his long range passes came off, but at least he has the confidence to have a go. We need to encourage him, not tell him to stop pissing about.
Other than that, Warnock and Ireland looked as if they had a point to prove, Fonz looks as if he's coming on nicely as a footballer and Bent could well turn out to be the best money this club has spent in a long time. Overall, really enjoyed it.
-
It's walsall. And a friendly. Bit of perspective please. Encouraging, but it's a million miles away from proving anything.
I agree
Whilst I would like to be coming in my pants this is our starting 11 against a team that were nearly relegated.
Good for morale yes but reading anything else into it no.
Most worrying for me is playing heskey and a 442
-
We still have our weakness at defending crosses...
-
Anyone know what happened with Delph then? Surprised not to see him in the squad.
-
I thought Ireland was superb in his short time on the pitch.
Petrov & Makoun were Ok, both coming quite deep to get the ball, but quite a few passes were under hit.
Heskey was effective wide, probably because we wern't hoofing it to his head all the time.
Delfouneso will not get easier chances than last night, he should have easily had a couple of goals.
I thought Warnock looked sharp & was especially good coming forward.
Didn't think much of Albrighton, I know it's only one pre-season game but it was worrying. He struggled against a toss team. Hopefully he'll have better games before the season starts.

We didn't start with 442 last night.
-
Heskey played because he had to. And everyone deserves a run out. If Ireland and Warnock deserve a shot, then surely Heskey does?
Ireland was encouraging. Warnock was solid. Obviously, opposition was poor. But, we did a decent Job. Bent, again, in the right place at the right time. Albrighton looked a bit rusty, he's going to have to get on his game sharpish, he's our only winger.
The worrying aspect from my point of view, was the complete lack of pace in the side.
-
what did we play then?
4-5-1 with heskey wide?
-
Heskey played wide left of a 4-3-3 with Albrighton on the right.
Ireland played more advanced of Petrov and Makoun.
I like Makoun. He likes short, first-time passes, the other players around him don't always seem to be on his wave-length though.

That formation I like - just not with heskey in it. let's be honest he aint going to trouble premier league defenders, would have prefered Fonz to start - he is the future not 32 year old ivanhoe
My only concern is petrov and makoun sittining deeper and only having Ireland in front of them, bearing in mind a decent team will steam roller straight through the middle

Heskey was very good last night wide on the left, he was strong and running at defenders & some of his touches were very good.
Delfouneso was poor & missed easy chances.
-
lets be honest though Paul we all know Heskey aint going to do that in the PL
he is not the future.
The same as petrov isn't the future because we know his has an appalling fitness level - get Bannan in and if he's not good enough ship him out.
-
It's always difficult to know exactly how telling a pre-season game can be. If we had lost then the more pessimistic would be all over it, but in truth the optimistic would then be playing it down as 'only a friendly'.
What I take from it is more to do with the individual players:-
Bent scoring
Ireland playing well
Warnock getting a standing ovation
Dunne looking trim
Result aside, take those things into the new season and we'll be doing a lot better than some have predicted.
-

Petrov played 78 minutes last night & did well. Albrighton was the one who looked fucked.
If Delfouneso is the future then he needs to take chances like he has last night else he'll never get in the team.
-
Just out of interest, did Makoun make any tackles last night or was he preferring to shadow his opponents?
-
Petrov has been breathing out of his arse after 60 minutes for 2 seasons and that isn't going to change. he should not be a starter bannan or delph should
Like I said before any win is encouraging but it was Walsall who are shit
-
How did Warnock do?
-
How did Warnock do?
I thought he was Ok defending, wasn't really challenged. He was good going forward.
An improvement on last seasons Warnock, let's hope he can do it in the league.
-
How did Warnock do?
Must be at least 6/10.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Well over 5,000 of that crowd must have been Villa.
Rather fizzled out as a spectacle as all the changes were made but you expect that.
Encouraging signs from Ireland, Albrighton needs sharpening up a bit if he is going to supply the ammunition for Bent (1st outing...I'm sure he will).
I think Petrov was on the pitch the longest and was pulling all the strings but I doubt he would get that much time in the Premier.
My advice to Walsall would be to get a right back, to all intents and purposes 1st half they didnt appear to have one.
That lad in the Walsall section should be ....errrrr sectioned.

I'm pleased with that formation, it's what I want to see and the formation I believe we'll get the best out of Ireland from.
Petrov or Clark holding infront of the back 4, Makoun playing a little more advanced to move the ball onto Ireland to get it through to the strikers. All the more reason to gety N'zogbia who'd fit nicely into that formation.
-
Just out of interest, did Makoun make any tackles last night or was he preferring to shadow his opponents?
As is the way in most PSF's, there was hardly any tackling!
-
Pretty encouraging overall- but depressing to think that Petrov is still around.
-
Pretty encouraging overall- but depressing to think that Petrov is still around.
Why? He's a good player and a solid professional that the young lads could do a lot worse than learn from. He does have a stamina issue for 90 minutes of PL football, but contributes until his legs start to go. What we need to do is use him intelligently and once he starts to struggle make a change.
-
Petrov was one of our best players in the last 10 games of last season.
-
I think that Delfouneso looked quality last night apart from his finishing.
He is more skillfull than Bent, Gabby and Albrighton.
I think if we were to sign NZogbia a front 3 of Fonz Bent NZogbia would be good, Albrighton looked like he did the last few months of last season which hopefully is just temporary.

Which other team in the PL has a captain who after an hour can't run and breathes out of his backside?
I want a captain who is a leader for 90 minutes not 50 or 60

Big Eck agrees
Darren Bent once again showed his ability as a world-class finisher but it was youngster Nathan Delfouneso who caught McLeish’s eye – albeit for the wrong reasons.
McLeish said: “Nathan came on and could have scored four in the second-half but he is a young player who is getting experience from the Darren Bent’s of this world.
“I think that he could have had a hat-trick, at least, but the positions he got himself into were tremendous and he was really lively.
“I told him he might only get one chance and he must learn to take it so that was an education for him because he is someone who looks like he has a bright future.”

Interesting... I think a 4-3-3 kind of formation will be the one that suits us best this season, as things stand. Three midfield players makes us solid - we haven't got the strength there to go with two central midfielders - and three forward players could work well for us. Again, we haven't got any wingers, other than Albrighton, but we have a couple of strikers who are comfortable playing slightly wide: Gabby and Delfouneso. If we did get N'Zogbia, he'd slot in perfectly on the left of a front three.
Two other things:
1. Can anyone tell me more about Burke? Getting the odd rave review here, don't know much about him.
2. That clip of the Walsall fan has depressed me.

Was that from last night?
If so what fucking state is their pitch for the start of the season?
-
No, and the pitch looked fine last night.
-
Graham Burke. Let's see.
Young Irish lad (we have a few of them). Quick, skillful, eye for a goal. 17 years old.
Plays as a striker or a winger. Or rather he was a winger who is used increasingly as a striker in academy/reserves.
He's coming through the ranks strongly and could be an outside bet for a squad number this season.
-
Thanks Maz.
A winger, you say? Thank f*** for that!
Room in our squad for a promising young wide player.

I never said he should be captain.
And Bryan Robson circa 92/93 at Man Utd springs to mind.

That's offensive to everyone else with special needs, including Junior Pablo - she wouldn't stoop so low as to
a) spit at people
b) go to a Waslall match
-
Yeah 4-3-3 was the formation i was hoping we would go with, but didn't think we would. It does make a bit more sense to only get 1 more player in for now (a winger) if thats the case, unless we get rid of Heskwy and Cuellar.
-
Was Ireland tracking back? Or was it more a 4-2-3-1?
Edit: Some of those dancing Kev videos reminds me of half the kids who had fried their brains on ecstasy when I was back in my raving days. Poor stupid bastards.
-
Whether or not Petrov is captain we should not be starting with a player who has a disgraceful level of fitness.
It sends out the wrong signals to other players and is a waste of a substitution
-
I think Chelsea and Blackburn might prove more telling tests.

Great match, suprised at the amount of Villa fans that turned up, must've been at least 3 thousand including the 3 stands we were in.
Made me feel alot better about the new season, particularly in the practically new signings in Ireland and Warnock.

I'm with you on that KRS. I expect the official '3,974' figue quoted by DW had to be massaged downwards for H&S / ground certification reasons as they let more into the 'side' than there were seats!

Agree with that assessment PTV, particularly re: MA. Wind back twelve months to the equivalent pre-season fixture and Albrighton (and Carew for that matter) were unplayable with the Walsall left-back feigning injury a couple of mninutes before half-time because MA was so hot. He was pretty poor by comparison last night.
-
Agree about Petrov good skill leel but will only lst 60-70 mins ,been like that fo a couple of seasons and he isn't gtting any younger, with an untested Ireland and a very lightweight Makoun a worry for me
-
Sorry for the typing my keyboard is shite !!

I was in the side stand I'm sure there were plenty more in the side stand than number of seats. Outside that side stand there were two lots of turnstiles for ticket holders then a long queue paying cash at turnstiles towards the floors2go end. I would guess they just stopped when they thought it was 'about`full and the rest then went round to the other side stand.

Didn't Mcleish get a good reception? I hope so, there's no point in complaining about it now.

You've gotta love this comment
As a Blues fan for many years, i was sorry to see mcLeish leave, but with the club imploding and likely to go into administration, I like many other Blue noses will follow Mcliesh across the city and adopt Villa...Up the Villa we're going into Europe

Just an observation from half time at the game...
Bannan, Beye and Clarke were warming up knocking balls around; Bannan looked class with good skill and ball control, Clarke not so bad but not great, Beye couldnt even control the ball most of the time and looked like he couldnt be bothered.
Beye isnt good enough to wear a Villa shirt, let alone be in the squad.
-
A Newcastle fan mentioned that we signed Beye injured and he was amazed he passed his medical.
-
Did anyone else see two lads get chucked out for squirting ketchup into the crowd at half-time?
