What's the French for moron?
Adieu, Monsieur Pires.
-
Is he leaving for sure? I love the attempted penalty, I think they were winning easily so it didn't matter but I could be mistaken.
-
Hope he is, waste of space & money

I would have thought so...
Pires - Villa lacked respect
Veteran upset at not getting more game time for Midlanders
French veteran Robert Pires has hit out at a perceived lack of respect during his spell at Aston Villa.
The 37-year-old joined Villa on a six-month deal in November after leaving Villarreal, but he made just 12 appearances for the club.
The French winger was left frustrated by his lack of first-team action and has branded his stay at the club as a 'failure'.
"When I look back, I am extremely disappointed," he told The Express and Star.
"I knew I wasn't going to be a guaranteed starter but I would have liked to have been used a bit more.
"During the match at Arsenal, we were winning 2-0 and I thought Gary McAllister was going to put me on. It was at that moment I said to myself there was a lack of respect.
"My experience at Villa has been a failure."

Yep sounds like he is off!
-
Don't diss uncle bob. In a season of very little cheer his comedy turns have been a welcome throwback to a simpler time of jumpers for goalposts, standing on terraces and the 3 day week.. I was going to invest in a black and white tv to get the full effect if he'd stayed

Lack of respect? You have to earn respect.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out....

Toodle pip, You won't be missed. Le twot.

Spot on Mr Pires
-
Pissflap.

Message to Pires:
When your head is up your own arse all you will see and hear is the shit coming out of you. So, Foxtrot Oscar!
-
"Lack of respect" for not giving him a run out against his old club?
Cheeky bastard.
-
So all the other times he was either on the bench or not even in the squad, he was OK with that.
But not being allowed to trot out for a few minutes at the Emirates and get a round of applause from the gooners was a lack of respect. Self centred, much?
If I had to give a textbook example of a lack of respect, it might include a footballer making those kind of comments about a club that has paid him handsomely for the past few months. Despite getting very little in return.
-
If we had brought him on at Arsenal I'm 100% certain we wouldn't have won. That's why. He's useless.

Yup. Defending a narrow lead in the last few minutes away at Arsenal isn't really the right opportunity to bring Pires on for a farewell wave to the crowd.
-
His comments in the press up to now have been quite complimentary of the club. If he really wants to play every week it was never going to be here. He should go somewhere sunny and wind-down.

An old people's home perhaps.. Bottom line is he's 37 and he should have retired long before he turned up at our place. He's totally gone and if he can't see that he's got a serious case of self-denial
-
For Pires see Ireland. Entirely predictable and utterly depressing.
-
Pires leaving?
In that case, the club can stick the season ticket up their arse.
-

Fuck me perhaps the twat has got a premier league game mixed up with a Dad's v Lad's end of season game.
-
Well we gave him his one last hurrah in the premier league he should be thanking us.

You'll have to try harder Fletch, Nobody, but nobody is going to fall for that one.

And provided him with a chauffeur to drive him to training!!
-
Taxi for Pires, he's not having the Limo and driver!!!
-
Lack of respect? You have to earn respect.
To be honest having waited with my 8 year old after the Wolves game for autographs there is only Pires and Albrighton I have any respect for.
-
Won't be missed ..........arguably cost us the game at Hawthorns
In funny sort of way liked seeing him shuffle around the pitch and thinking
"I can move faster than that"
Don't know whether he had positive influence on younger players at Bodymoor
was he there long enough in the day having commuted from London ?
-
How's this then Robert? I have the utmost respect for the career you have had in football and think bringing you in as a free agent when we had an injury crisis was a decent idea. Since then I think you have been a waste of space and have yelled abuse at the very mention of your name both at games and watching on TV. There a bit of balance and respect, now f**k off!
-
Hope McCallister realises why he got so much stick when he brought him on now.
-

Spot on Mr Pires
Villa's experience of Pires has been a failure...
-
Thinking about Pires's usefulness in the midst of a relegation battle, I'm reminded of that bit in Blackadder when they're about to go over the top and Blackadder reminds George not to forget his stick. 'You're right,' he replies. 'Wouldn't want to face a machine gun without this.'
The guy's a coq with a capital k.
-

One would hope he does, and that was why he didn't bring him on at the Emirates; well done GMac.
-
Good goal against Blackburn.
Past his best due to age, not his fault, maybe we shouldn't have expected as much from him. Good luck. It didn't work. Move on!

And don't come back

when i read that i basically see pires saying Villa (Gary Mac) lacked respect because they didnt let him get on at Arsenal so he could have a love in with his old arsenal fans!
and he accuses the Villa of lackin respect
as del boy would say bonjour mr pires
-
how will we replace him though? Persuade ginola to come out of retirement? could be the biggest test of GH's management so far.
-
Yep I got slagged off on here because of my lack of Idol worship for a has been footballer that had absoloutely no affinity with our club. A bloke who got hired because he was French. We sent blokes off on loan so that primodona could sit on the bench and get steem rollered the moment he set foot on the pitch. Just like Houlier at Anfield the bloke was more concerned with his legacy at another club than The Villa.
When we will ever learn?
-
Was it a chaffeur driven car an old ring and ride?
-
If you are performing like you did in mid late 20s you would be an starter. But you are not a young player anymore. If you want to play football for Villa more often, Join Aston Villa Former's Player team and you can play with Tony Morley and co.

There are many lessons to be learned from last season but I feel that none will be taken on board and we will be taught a few more in the next 12 months.
-
He is all over the box and the papers in France at the moment: has just published his autobiography (which he apparently finished on an iPhone text app while coming up for a corner against Smethwick). It is called "Ducks can't Tackle". I didn't know he was nicknamed the "Canard", "Connard" more like...
He has been having a moan because "all the fans were calling for me to come on but it didn't happen". <wanker emoticon>
-
Much ado about nothing

Unless it is to collect Mr Houllier to take with you back to France.

Who on here did engage in idol worship of Pires?
I don't remember anyone doing it, truth be told.
-

Idol worship of Pires = saying he's a gamble worth taking considering that we have eigth midfielders out injured

On the contrary, far from hero worship the majority of people on here did nothing but moan about it from the moment we signed him.

Including the original poster.

He was a good signing at the time considering we were struggling to get a five a side game for training. He should have been let go earlier than he was. The net outlay was minimal.

Precisely he was hardly a disastrous signing. We didn't spend much on him and he may have passed on some useful experience to the young players.
