Post by: MrPete01 on April 18, 2011, 09:01:32 PM
Quite a few punters sporting a very natty Hugo Boss Claret Blue and White Polo Shirt on Saturday at West Ham, I cannot find one anywhere any details of the product code or a stockist of said garment in XXL would be greatly appreciated!

Email me at Doolan1982@aol.com

I think JJAV was after this a few months ago. Or maybe it was a Fred Perry one. Percy and the Mods knew where to find one. Maybe ''Pretty Green'' do them too.

Where do you want to take it? Are you going to stop supporting the Villa because they are managed by a Frenchman and owned by a Yank?

Not me, because that has nothing to do with how I feel about it.

Now, about the significance of Hugo Boss to the British working class....

Oh, what happened to it just meaning that the wearer is a Weller fan, or were you just being stupid (on purpose that time, instead of by nature)?

Okay, so you didn't read it, never mind. I knew it would mean nothing to you, (thankfully) as you barely seem to have a clue about anything.

My point was if i personally was spending that sort of wedge on a polo, I'd go Boss all the way based mostly on quality and style, rather than what Fatboy Slim thinks

As I said, I have both. It's possible that you have neither, and judging by your post your certainly have no first-hand knowledge of a Fred. The quality is no different, the style is erm.... a polo shirt. And I neither know nor care what Fatboy Slim thinks.

Of course. Like everything else in Modernist culture, if it was too popular with the masses, it would be disowned.

It does mean something though, it has a cachet that other labels would kill for. You don't have to like it but certain brands have a status based on their history that sets them apart. I don't expect you to understand and I don't care enough about you to try and explain, but Percy is right.

I practically live in polo shirts outside winter and have tried a fair number of brands over the years. In terms of quality, Lacoste is hands down the best I have ever owned but Fred Perry definitely won the "Villa look" with their classic claret with sky blue and white piping. The last one I bought was £15 though, admittedly in the days before my beer belly - are they really £60 now? If so, send me a few piccies and I can get them made for a quid apiece over here and flog them to you unsuspecting retro boys in the Woodhall-Mart emporium for 10 of your British Kate Middleton notes.

Try their flagship store in Covent Garden, there's loads more choice there than the shops in Brum etc. I was there in January and bought a Navy Polo with Claret & Blue piping, can't remember if there was a white one though.

Indeed. I've still got three that my last-but-one bird bought me (so that's about 12 years ago), and they're almost as good as new. Mind you, the current Mrs P hates her, so I don't wear them very often.

To keep the Gazelles clean you need to give 'em a good soaking them with a good water repellant spray, they will then resist most stains. Then just keep them clean, and re-spray every now and then. I've always found the sun fades the colour out of them though.

Cheers for the link to the Fred Perry unfortunately they are all out of stock.

Two Ronnies were class - apart from the awful song and dance routines. Were you left or right side of the Holte? Tiswas or Swap Shop? I think Two Ronnies v Morecombe & Wise could be another way to segment Villa fans of a certain vintage...

I've had a few Lacoste ones, and they've lasted me years, and kept their shape, wish i could say the same.

Quite like Lyle and Scott, mainly due to the fact that i like the Two Ronnies!

As a kid I used to hate the Ronnie Corbett monologue. Only when I "matured" did I realise the true quality there. I always think of him when I see Lyle and Scott jumpers.

And like you I have one Lacoste which is till in good nick after 10 years.

I'd watch the Two Ronnies over Morecombe and Wise any day of the week, there's probably already a thread on this topic!

To fit the Celtic/Rangers chant though, it would have to be "BARKER!"/"CORBETT!" or "MORCAMBE"!/"WISE!"

I saw a few West Ham fans with Claret and Blue Adidas gazelle on sat,did look nice, though i don't wanna get any fashion tips from Cockneys,
I have a pair of them too, gotta keep the claret and blue going !

Same here. They are the classiest trainers ever...bar none.

i've got a pair too. Adidas Gazelle are class, claret and blue Gazelle pure class. Most comfortable trainers ever, and one of the few pairs of trainers IMO that look good with shorts or jeans.
I've been looking for a white Fred Perry with the claret and blue piping, i saw one a few years ago in London and dithered over buying it, now i can't find one anywhere, anyone any ideas?
There a bit hard to clean though! How do you clean suede??

This what your looking for?  ;)
 http://www.uniquemenswear.co.uk/polo-shirts-c7/fred-perry-laurel-fred-perry-m12-polo-shirt-white-claret-blue-p24745

Ill have to find some water repellent spray then, yeah mine are fading already and there quite rare so hope i dont have to look for a new pair!
Type in claret and blue fred perry on google, it comes up with that, codes m12 i think

Try eBay for the white fred perry with the claret and blue pipings. I bought a couple at £18 each from this Japenesse seller on there before christmas, worth a go.

Come to this thread late. I own a few Fred Perry garments but can understand why Coopers Thingy doesn't like them, I suspect they don't go too well with his Bono mullet and cowboy boots.

I shouldn't snigger, but this made me laugh Chris. Great post.

Nope just does not float my boat. Give me Billy Bragg, Dylan, Tunng, Northern Soul, Tindersticks, Kate Bush, Angelics, Dixie Chicks, St Etienne, Cash, Portishead, Clash... who is the song about?

Some good stuff there, quite discerning I'd say. I love Northern, Bragg, The Clash and sixties Dylan, and recognise that, while not my thing, the others are good at what they do. Have you heard the Portishead remix of 'Wild Wood' by Weller? Very good. 'Fuck Me Pumps' sums up perfectly an acquaintance of mine, perhaps I should have said 'exactly the type of person it's about'. It's the woman who quite recently had a very public fall-out with Michael Ricketts. Google it, and give 'pumps' another listen on youtube.

Speaking of good versions / mixes Nina Perrsons version of Losing My Religion is quite nice. As not to keep this thread off topic I will post it in Off Topic Youtube videos...

I saw Dylan here in Shanghai a couple of weeks ago and it was a massive disappointment.

Like you I love his sixties stuff but he only played a couple of his well known big hitters, did not engage with the audience until maybe 75 minutes into the evening and at times sounded like Cartman. He is in good nick for his age but as a live act he was not a patch on that other veteran, Leonard Cohen. I was really looking forward to this gig too, as you rarely get anybody of note out here.
To be fair to the big man may well have had to submit a playlist in advance excluding anything obviously rebellious, but it was still a real disappointment.

Some very good stuff on your music selection there, gents.

Is that a fake?

Most likely. Premium brands are very careful about their distribution channels and only use approved sellers.

It's unlikely an approved seller would flog these for less than half their normal retail price on ebay (as opposed to their own website).

Guaranteed, 100%, completely and utter fake and they can be brought at car boots for under a tenna - cheap crap that will go bitty and out of shape with the collars curling up after a couple of washes.
