Think were going to lose this. This game to them is as important as the Newcastle game was for us.
2-1 to them
We don't do back to back wins
I'd like to see Walker dropped for this one and perhaps Cuellar back in at RB
Or perhaps Walker played further forward in a 4-5-1-type shape, maybe dropping Gabby?
Der Hammers 2 The Villa 0

If they lose this one they will go down, massive for them so they must attack us so we should get them on the break.Sadly, we no longer play break away football

Our tippy tappy approach will play into the hands of Parker, Hitz and Noble

Our 4-4-2 system which has got us 4 points in two games is based on the break-away.

I remember lots of times when we should have been breaking but instead played redundant triangles in our own half
Maybe Its as we are comparing it to the "true" breakaway flare and devastating pace we had under MON ?
They have to attack, we should attack because its our best suit and we have more firepower. Could be an open game and I'm tipping Villa for a 3-1 win.
I'd pick a team for a running battle.
...............................Friedel
Walker...........Collins..........Dunne..........Young
..........Makoun......Reo Coker......Delph
Downing...................Bent....................Young
Marshall, Cuellar. Clark, Petrov, Albrighton, Agbonlahor, Heskey
But I'll think we'll see the same team from Sunday.
We don't do back to back wins, West Ham will have more desire for this and will come from behind to win
West Ham 2 - 1 Villa

I was, but Avram versus Houll sounded a bit forced for the next line.Der Hammers 2 The Villa 0

You could argue this is one of the most important games of the season. Win, and I'd say we're definitely safe. We'd be 8 points clear of West Ham, and could breathe a bit of a sigh of relief. Lose, and we'd be right back down in the shit. I'm going for a draw, as I think we'll prolong the agony a bit longer.
From McAllister on official site: "The management team use one of the world leaders in sports match analysis, tracking technology and data creation while scouts give them detailed dossiers on the opposition for each given weekend."

And it takes until the closed season to work out who to mark at corners!!

Like all the desire they've had so far this season?
You didn't see the one at Villa Park then?Indeed, easily the worst team I'd seen this season... Until Blackburn turned up.
Correct, under the circumstances a draw would be perfectly acceptable
i think theyl beat us 2-1. Bent to put us ahead but Cole and a late rocket from the hammer will give them the 3 points!
You didn't see the one at Villa Park then?
Is Parker fit ??Not my type.
Is Parker fit ??
He was replaced in the second half of the Bolton game on 9/4. Grant revealed that Parker was tired and hopes he will be okay with some rest.
Cuellar at right back. Petrov and NRC in the middle. Logic says play 433 with makoun in there too.
0-0, boring.That'll do
West Ham 1-3 VillaFriedel
Walker Dunne Collins Young
Downing Makoun NRC Young
Heskey Bent

You haven't really thought that one through, have you Peter?

One of my nasty feelings about this one
2-1 or 2-0 to them, just think they will want it more than us and they will have targeted this match as very winnable...
I was mightily concerned last week about how many of our players really wanted it against Newcastle given how pivotal the game was
Petrov definitely, Gabby and Collins maybe but not really any of the rest....
Speaking to a few west ham fans, with their run-in, they see this game as must win or they're down
Atmosphere should be very tense
After Downings comments in reply to Alvin Martin's, I am feeling confident.
3-1 to Villa
That's why i'd start NRC. He's gonna get a lot of stick, but i think he'd thrive on it,and he won't wanna lose back at West Ham.One of my nasty feelings about this one

Think much the same. realistically they have to win their 3 home games to stay up. lose this and they've only really got a possible 6 points from home. Their away games are nasty with chelsea and Citeh and wigan away won't be easy. 38 points ain't enough imo. a draw ain't much cop either. we on the other hand would class a draw as a good result, but i think they'll want it more
You didn't see the one at Villa Park then?

So you didn't say...
From the WHU games I've seen this season, they certainly put the effort in and aren't actually that bad a team.
...then?
After Downings comments in reply to Alvin Martin's, I am feeling confident.
3-1 to Villa
Which were?
Looks like Scott Parker will miss this one.
That's a massive boost for us, he carries them.

Mark Halsey is now the referee, replacing Michael Oliver at late notice.
Halsey's last Villa game saw us victorious over West Brom, while he last visited Upton Park when Liverpool were the visitors, as the reds lost 3-1.
The assistants are unchanged, leaving Simon Long (yellow flag) and Mike Cairns (chequered) with Andy D'Urso 4th official.
Young is on his way regardless of what happens this season. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded. We'll get the upfront fee + add ons back. Downing is the modern day Mark Walters - looks good with some eye catching goals but overall contribution to the team? Sub optimal. I think he will be gone too - to Liverpool I reckon.

Thanks, Russell Grant.
Load of cobblers about Downing by the way. Our best player this season, easily.

If Hitz does play, can our fans there shout "Pass!".
I said 1-1 earlier, but Parker being out is a big loss for them.

To be fair shoot will 9 times out of ten be a better option for us.
I reckon it'll be 2-1 Villa and if other results go for us then hopefully the orange dot won't be needed for a while.
This will be my first trip to West Ham, anyone know of any good away pubs near the ground?
So he'll definitely be starting today then.
And Hammers boss Avram Grant is considering resting Parker for the tough away matches at Chelsea and Manchester City.
We have the better players but West Ham are more motivated.
What's all this bollocks about West Ham being more motivated and wanting it more? They need it more perhaps but who says they'll show more desire? Based on what?

Lunacy, IMO.

Based on the fact that if they lose and results go against them elsewhere they're going to struggle to get the points to stay up with their remianing games. Its a must win game for them IMO. We on the other hand, had a must win game last week but today's game was not one i was counting on to get the points to stay up. I'm sure they'll come at us with all guns blazing which could play into our hands with Parker missing. Get a goal on the break and i reckon any head of steam they've built up will evaporate.

3-1 to Villa

Downing has responded defiantly to criticism by radio pundit Martin that Villa might not have the character for a relegation scrap.
“He is not in our changing room, he doesn’t know anything,” he added.
“If he thinks we’ve got no team spirt, we could have easily faltered against Newcastle.
“I think that is the biggest thing here. We stuck together. We have a great set of lads.
“Team spirit is a big thing at every football club and fighting and tackling and making blocks and filling in for each other.
‘‘That is all part of being a team and even the bench was buzzing in the changing room after the last game.
“If it wasn’t there, we’d be in trouble.
Downing, who scored in Villa’s comprehensive opening day 3-0 win over the Hammers, added: “It’s easy for Alvin Martin to talk.
“Who did he play for? West Ham? I think he should look at West Ham.
“I’d tell you if the team spirit wasn’t there. It’s probably the biggest thing we’ve got, team spirit.”
From Birmingham Mail
Ironic that its Downing talking about tackling and making blocks!
I think it will be 1-1
Who's naive now?Looks like Scott Parker will miss this one.
That's a massive boost for us, he carries them.
He'll be fit, lets not be naive here
