After much deliberation the reserve team figure featuring Aston Villa and Chelsea will take place on Monday 21st February at the Greene King Stadium.

Kick-off is expected to be 19:30 hours but will be confirmed as soon as it has been agreed.

There could be an array of stars on show with the possibility of Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba or Nicholas Anelka featuring for Chelsea.

I've been quite disappointed with Barry. Neat and tidy but his distribution, if you can call hoofing it up front distribution, has been poor. Last 15 minutes of the half he's looked better but hardly 'very impressive'.

I was really looking forward to seeing him play but he doesn't look at all interested, if he's touched the ball five times that's it.

Should be a penalty - that wimp of a keeper is trying to get away with it.  Fonz was taken down by 2 defenders.

The Fonz looks a lot a lot stronger this season.

Lovely bit of skill from Bannan cleaning up there.

Good to see the reserves learning from the seniors, throwing a lead away twice, conceding from corners and letting in last minute goals.  Good stuff!

potato field, why on earth are they playing at Hinckley?

To save the VP pitch from looking like Hinkley's pitch I suppose. I thought we played a bit too long and didn't support Nathan enough. Chelsea played a lot more triangles but they didn't really have a stand out player like Bannan for us.

I know we need to keep VP lush but there has to be something better than Dingley fucking Dell.

Surely to God all the money we spend on pitch technology means Villa Park can cope with a handful of reserve games.

Why we are risking our potentially valuable players on a surface like that is beyond me.

It was a bit of a pudding but it didn't look dangerous and was firm enough on the wings, just a bit muddy in patches. Aren't we always going on about how PL teams should do more for grass roots football? Well a thousand or so people paying gate money and tea, burgers etc must help surely.

Surely with all the money that has been spent at Bodymoor Heath they have a pitch that can be used?

I quite like the idea of taking the games round a few grounds, but maybe we should do it mainly in the early part of the season when the pitches will still be pristine. I don't mind our youngsters roughing it a bit, but they're not going to develop into the Brummie Barcelona if they have to play hoof football every week due to the dodgy pitch.

Why are we helping Hinckley out ? Shouldn't we be helping someone closer to home ??
Title: Re: Reserves v Chelsea 21.2.11
Post by: PeterWithe on February 21, 2011, 11:42:25 PM
Closer to home the locals are probably all Villa fans any road, playing here stretches us into Cov & Leics territory and annoying them can never be a bad thing.

Post by: Dave Cooper please on February 22, 2011, 12:08:22 AM
The problem with Hinckley is that the ground is shared by another club (Hinckley FC), so the pitch is played on roughly twice a week, every week.

I can see him being a crowd favourite if he makes the first team, doesn't offer much going forward but seemed to love flying into tackles.

You can't do that sadly in the modern game

How was Forrester? Hope he can forge a career, especially after the hoo-ha when we signed him.

Superb goal, he was skillful and wanted the ball but looked physically weak. Not sure if he is playing above his age group, there were a few players who looked a little out of their depth, not surprising as we have let a lot of the reserve team go out on loan and these lads were more used to youth team games.

Ta,how old is he now,19? Must be around the same age as the Fonz, shame he hasn't got his size.
