Apologies if already discussed but I have just realised the FA Cup final is being played on Saturday 14th May. We are due to play Arsenal away that day in our penultimate league fixture, there are a full set of premier fixtures scheduled.
Its bad enough that the final is being played the week before the seasons end instead of being the grand curtain down on the domestic season that it used to be.
I know we are unlikely to be in the final, but has the FA cup final now become just another game to be wedged into a crowded fixture list ?
-
It's because of the European cup final being played at wembley a few weeks later.
It is a real kick in the teeth for the FA Cup
-
This happened before didn't it? Chelsea v Arsenal in 2002?
-
Sod it, we can play Arsenal at 1pm then nip across London for the 5pm final KO v Man U. As long as there's no extra time we should be okay..........
-
Your wrong.
FA cup was played on last weekend of season.
In fact I know a team that managed to win both the FA cup AND the league on the same day.
Any one know the details on that?
-
It will be strange seeing the Cup Final played before the season's finished.
-
I don't see a problem guys. It's a one off because we are hosting THE biggest club game in the world.
-
FA trophy final?

Would that have been 10th April 1897 when Derby lost 1-0 at Bury, therefore with only three games left making it impossible to catch the team who were playing Everton in the FA Cup final that day. The team that then beat Everton 3-2 and a week later played the first ever game at their new ground as cup winners and champions... and won 3-0.
What a proud history that club has!
Am I right?

No we're not. It's at Wembley.

Wow, with knowledge like that you must be nicknamed Google, or Wikipedia or something like that by your mates...

Can't remember the last time I sat down to watch the FA Cup final. I'm sure Man Utd were playing though.
-
The FA Cup Final deserves a day to itself. For once I wouldn't mind if all the league games were played on Sunday to accomodate it.
-
They fucked up the FA Cup a long time ago, this is just another example of how they have undermined the competition, the fun is still to be had in the earlier rounds when so called lesser teams have a go at the primadonas

Didn't Coventry beat Spurs in the FA Cup final of 1987?
-
1897 not 1987.
-
1897 not 1987.
Ohhh. Cheers.

I fail to understand why UEFA insist that there has to be two clear weeks at the venue before the Champion's League final is played. Surely it can't take that long for them to set up their oversized advertising boards?
-
1897 - obvious - and close to home -very close
-
Maybe we should fully afford the respect the FA CUP Final now has by making it the 39th game and having it played on a Wednesday night in Manila
-
We'll be ok cos we'll be in it
-
I'll be surprised if we get past Sheffield United. New manager + sort of horrible, dirty team that always do us = disaster.
-
Agreed. A little bit more of the soul of the FA Cup - and hence of football as a whole - is carved away...:-(

Couldn't agree more. For me this started when Man Utd didn't bother to defend it and went to some tin pot competition in Brazil instead of entering the FA Cup. Mind you, at least it meant we didn't draw them in the third round that season and actually got to the final!

You live at 1898?

It will take 2 weeks to put down new turf to replace the substandard surface for the FA cup final.

To correct the load of bollocks posted above for the nth time. Man United to be fair to them were forced into it by the FA and the Government who were sucking up to FIFA at the time in our doomed attempt to shaft the Germans and get the 2006 World Cup. I remember Ferguson absolutely fuming about it at the time.

Apologies for posting a load of bollocks - thanks for pointing that out for me. My point was that the competition for me was devalued at that time for whatever reasons

Agree on the devaluation, for some reason it winds me up that everyone accuses Man Yoo when it was the FA.

Thats right. We played their replacement, the wild card entry but can't remember who it was

Darlington I believe
