I must admit, I was suprised when they said Albrighton would be out so long.  My neighbhour had his appendix out a few weeks ago, he was out drinking the next night.

Mark Noble at West Ham recently recovered from appendicitis in an even quicker time I think.

Marc is a healthy young lad. No bother to him. Can't wait to see him rip Glen Johnson to shreds.  ;D

Seriously, what did Carlos do to Houllier? Did Gerard come home one day to find son of Keown taking a dump on his naked wifes chest? Its the only logical explanation.

No Ash. I've lost track, is he injured, suspended, rested, dropped, or chuffing one out on his web cam at home?

Lets not get too over confident... yes it's awesome news Marc is back (very quick recovery, lets just hope he feels like he CAN play rather than just wanting too) and it's also a bit of a relief that Torres won't be playing but it's still going to be difficult for us tonight. With all this good news now I really hope we can get something out of this cos we really need a point atleast.

Baffled that Cuellar isn't playing, just can't believe it.

Looking at those 2 sides and comparing it to the net spend of the 2 sides in the last 4-5 years makes you realise just how badly FSW and MoN bought, there really is very little quality in that pool side and our squad is full of kids.

Better team news. We've lost two from last week and gained one. Dunne still in at the back - does he have to defile Houllier's dear old mother to get dropped or what? Still, we have no chance of winning here, I'm afraid. Which is the perfect set-up for being proved wrong...

Torres out should be great news.

But our defence has been shown up by far weaker forward lines than Babbel and N'Gog. You'd have to go a long way to find a more ineffective front pair than Cameron Jerome and Zigic. If that inept bunch could give Dunne and Collins the runaround anyone can.

And no, it won't be forgotten if we win, not by me anyway.

Must have missed it, what happened?
Was it as bad as O'Leary at Highbury in 2006?

We sold out our allocation but no one has turned up apparently. 42,000 tickets sold with 33,000 in the ground.

why do we look like nervous kittens with set pieces into our box - and our own are now plain shite

we used to be the king dongs of the set piece (both end) - now we are just plain dongs

midfield getting torn to shreds - back four no confidence at all

FFS - we are making babbel and ngogh(sp) look like the best strike force since saint and greavsie - this after making Jerome look a million dollars in the last game

This could be embarrassing - surely the worst 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' side ever - and we are being tonked - GED WTF - didn't a good defensive coach become available this afternoon thanks to fat Mike Ashley - somebody track him down - this is painful

Can't defend at all. Can't score. We're fucked. Irelands anonymous again. Gabby's not right, but also not good enough with his feet to play Houlliers style and system on his own. Too inexperienced, and our supposedly experienced backline looks fooking woeful.

I see it's still MON's fault.

No it's not your right. He didn't pay £18m for Warnock,Dunne and Collins. My mistake........

Didn't see many dissenters last year for some of those purchases or their performances. But to keep on playing a plainly unfit and unworthy Dunne was something similar to what MON was criticised for last season and so GH cannot be exempt this.
The root of the problem is MoN.  he spent millions and fucked the squad up.  If he had spent his money better we would not be playing kids tonight.

We had plenty of central midfielders when O'Neill left. They are all injured though. This is why we are playing kids.

This is worryingly bad. We look relegation fodder.

- Every other pass is backwards.
- Awful defending for both goals.
- Albrighton and Downing have predictably had no influence since swapping sides.
- Clark looks very much out of his depth in midfield.

I'm a bit shocked as to how poor we've been. The lack of fight, belief and confidence is going to have to be sorted or we really are in a whole heap of shit based on that performance.

And in case anyone decides to come on the post-match thread and criticise those who are concerned that we might go down, well give it a rest tonight boys because, we really could go down.

Dont whatever you do mention the "R" word will you

Not for one second must anybody believe that  we are  a couple of points and places above the drop zone, playing like a team that is totally devoid of any attacking and defending nouse, and looks about as far away from winning a game soon than i am humping jennifer aniston tonight.

We are an absolute rabble. Indisciplined, lazy, gutless, no courage with or without the ball. It is pretty scary stuff. The body language in some players is awful and there is zero team spirit being shown. In some sense I feel sorry for the centre halves, our midfield dont want the ball, Gabby wont show for it and our widemen are hiding also. So the ball goes from Collins to Dunne and back again repeatedly until one of them gets sick of it and boots it to Reina.

There are injuries, poor pre season etc but if this is the impact Houllier has on the players then it may well be time for consider matters after the game. This is a desperately poor Liverpool side and we are making the likes of Lucas look like Roy Keane.

The real problem here is that the players appear to think it's acceptable to lose matches. It's going to be very hard to turn that mindset around. Before tonight, I wouldn't have been worried about relegation, just concerned that we don't become complacent. The manner of this performance is what concerns me now, the lack of belief, the players' body language, the loser mentality. Make no mistake about it, the rot has set in. We are now relegation candidates.

He spent a lot of money on the defence. And yes, this where we are looking most poor despite the fact that this is the position where we don't have many injuries. But Collins and Dunne never played this poorly last season. In fact, Dunne was considered the signing of the season by many.

Dare I say the players are not playing for Houiller. I can accept young players will have off days, Clark, Hogg, Albrighton are not too blame, one is playing out of position, one is just back from injury and the other is not the greatest footballer around in Hogg.

The defence is an absolute shambles and has been for most of the season, these are seasoned professionals who last season for 3/4 of it turn in some of the best performances in the league, this year they have been absolute awful and should be ashamed of themselves. To say they are headless chickens would be an understatement, tactically they are being very naive and for experienced professionals at this level is simply not good enough.

The mixture of out of form defenders and inexperienced or unfit players in the forward areas is leading us into a relegation dogfight and my fear is this is going to get a dam site worse before it gets better.

Bottom 3 come the new year, with our fixtures coming up this is very very likely.

I think I agree. We look like we gave up on 17 mins.

That's how bad we are.

I'm sorry, but we're in a relegation battle and the sooner the whole club wakes up to the fact the better.  Do you really think that miraculously things are going to turn round in January?

If Richard 'blobby' Dunne, Stephen 'can'tfuckintackle' Warnock, and Stephen 'lazyshit' Ireland never wore a Villa shirt again it would be too soon, if James Collins doesn't fuckin sort himself out too then he'll be the next to get told to fuck off.

Why play Albrighton on the left and Downing on the right as well - bloody ridiculous?

Gabby completed isolated and the kids do there best with players who quite clearly don't give a fuck. They looked beat before they walked on the pitch....and this the shittest Liverpool i've ever seen. Sort it out Houllier or fuck off.

See the teams as they were coming out the tunnel?  Not a squeak from our lot while there was plenty of talk from the Liverpool players.  Dunne is a shit Captain, I don't like the way he "accepts" conceding goals.  Never a hint of disappointment.  These players look like they are used to losing, like they have a ready made "excuse" with the injuries.  Well, I don't think this Liverpool side is any better than the XI we have but we have made it so unbelievably easy for them.

Argh, this was all so inevitable.
Non of the ****** give a fuck.  They don't get punished for poor performance.  They just go home and roll in their millions that they've earned by being ******.

The hardest thing to take about tonight is that this is the worst Liverpool team in years and we are still losing 2-0. Don't know where all this love for Ciaran Clarke has come from but he is in no way a central midfielder. We have major issues and if we don't buy well in Jan we will be fighting til the last day of the season for survival.

We absolutely have to drop Warnock. He's costing us a goal a game. And we have to get a central midfielder in, even if NRC is back soon. There's not enough personality in there and a relegation fight isn't the place to play Bannan in central midfield I suspect.

I just want to see some fight, some spirit and perhaps a couple of chances in the second half.

And can we practice defending set pieces all week please.

On a positive note, There are seven players out that could have improved it tonight, Young, Heskey, Reo, Petrov, Cuellar, Delph and Bannan. The worrying thing is though it would still leave Warnock and one from Dunne and Collins playing. We need to buy two new defenders.

Had hopes of in and around 6th at the start of the season.

The way this league has gone so far a half decent side should look to target that and beyond, it's been so open.

But I haven't been felt this low in following Villa for a while, prob since Venglos or GT second time around. Even under DOL when we had a slow start defensively we looked OK. We just lacked a bit of invention -which Solano provided in the second half of the season.  That combined with decent form from a few others, Hitz and Angel in particular was enough to turn a solid side into one chasing Europe.

But what can you do with a defence so weak, when we look like we'll ship a hatful in every game we face?

GH doesn't seem that bothered. He landed in saying 7th-12th was where he viewed us, so straight away he must have factored in a few defeats and doesn't seem all that concerned by them.

But losing can become a habit. And continuing to pick Dunne and Warnock endorses their performance, it say's that level of performance is OK for us. It flaming well isn't.

So what has changed? It's not the players
What I don't get is why so many previously good defenders have suddenly gone so bad...anyone?...

They are in transition. Apparently,

The last time we were conceding this many goals per game was the season we were relegated.
August, 2010. Newcastle away.

Exactly.

It's been enforced on Houllier but maybe, just maybe, MON saw these kids weren't good enough.

It clearly would've been a different story to bring one or two in with the experienced players but we're currently being completely shown up by an average Liverpool side with a team full.

This is poor to say the least. It's not event he talent anymore. It's like they don't believe. The one thing about MON teams is that he somehow managed to make his players play beyond their abilities. Now these players are being exposed for what they actually are on top of lacking all confidence. The more experienced pros have gone missing and it's killing us.

Unfortunately - this is spot on

Honeymoon period over for GH - think what we like about MON (as he the focal point and a twat to boot) but the coaching staff did a better job than any of us realised - until now

Injuries havenot helped - but in reality Petrov (and now Bannan who is worth his place) are the only two who will give us more than the crap on show tonight - heaven forbid we hold out for Sidwell/Heskey.

We have seen enough last season to know they are not as bad as they are palying now - but our Franchman needs to start earning his corn.

Final point - and apols if this get the stating the bleedin obvious award - but selling Milner seems such a mistake, sure he wanted to go - but if we hadn't sold him he would have knuckled down - the few extra million we got for him doesn't seem much value considering what is happening on the field (he was the glue) and how much it may cost us to get a player half as effective

Teams with worse personnel, in theory yes.

But I genuinely haven't seen any defence as chronic as ours, save maybe West Ham.

Look at some of the shit we've lost to recently and made look good, Blackburn, B-lose and this lot. Blackburn got hammered either side of their stroll in the park against us, B-lose generally struggle to score goals and create chances, yet no such problems when we came to town and an already poor Liverpool side can still afford to be without their three best players and roll us over.

None of the promoted sides who've come up this year look like pushovers (Blackpool's reserves very nearly got a draw at our place) so we're relying on West Ham and Wigan to remain shit and one other side to plummet.

Jol suddenly leaves Ajax maybe he knew what was to come at Villa when he turned us down.
Newcastle for him perhaps.
Championship for us perhaps.
Bloody rubbish no will, no desire, no hope.

Jol didn't walk out on Ajax because they were in the Champions League when we had a vacancy. I imagine that he will end up at Newcastle later this week now that he's free.

Hogg is the only one of a few I would absolve any blame, Collins, Dunne and Warnock should hang their heads.

Hogg is playing like one. NRC cannot get back quickly enough. We need a little bite in the midfield...

Thank the lord we have you to explain it all to us.

Hogg is a baby
Hogg is playing like one. NRC cannot get back quickly enough. We need a little bite in the midfield...

We need bite in the boardroom more than we need bite in midfield from a kid playing his 3rd ever PL game at Anfield. "playing like one" FFS!

Agreed.  Disgraceful comment about someone trying his best.
He is showing a bit more respect for the club than the manager.
My mistake a fucking hell of a lot....

we are now  in deep shit, it would be too obvious to blame gerrard but his badge kissing attitude tonight has pissed me off,
He's certainly behaving like a prick.  No respect.

Houllier went all misty eyed and touched the 'This is anfield' sign at the start.
Then he rolled over and let them tickle his tummy and his time is now up.
We are now officially, as i predicted when he was appointed, in a relegation battle.

I have no prolem with Houllier touching a sign. He was there for six years and nearly died during a match and came back to an emotional return. Maybe most people would get misty eyed.

However, he needs to start proving that the Villa job is more to him than a final fun attempt at managing a club before retirement -- and that it almost doesn't matter whether it's a success or not.

Collins passing is cack. Pires doesn't look able to do anything any more.

When you think Blackpool played their reserves, I don't think we've beaten anyone outside the bottom three this season have we? The performances were initially better than results, but confidence is clearly falling fast.

I want my side back, what the fuck are Ireland, Pires, Warnock, Hogg doing in our shirt.

How far is Nige away now? And dare I say it, even Ivanhoe?

I'd be grateful for a corner.

Two mins added time to endure.

Fair play to the hardy souls who paid money to freeze their bits off up there. They get my man of the match award.

hogg shouldnt be in the team yet. It is a sad enditement of the MON legacy that we have such a poor squad. Hogg should be getting half an hour here and there to aclimatise to the league. the same goes for clarke  imo. How did it come to this?....

I was defending Houllier on here a few days ago, but what the hell is he doing showing such a lack of respect for his new club? A cringe-inducing act of vomit right there...blegh.
He's French. He will cop a feel of the former trouble's tits in front of his own missus.

Says a lot for our ambition if Newcastle have persuaded jol to go there- this will be controversial but our chairman needs to be living in England and devoting his time to sorting out Aston villa rather than splitting it between villa and browns- we need leadership and seem to be nosediving- I hope mr Lerner gets here and stays here till the end of january at least !

When was the last time we were this poor? Taylor MKII or O'Dreary?

The last time we were conceding this many goals per game was the season we were relegated.

Go on VD, have a free "I told you so" on me.  Fuck knows I deserve it.

Believe me, whatever it was I told you I didn't think it was going to be this bad.

No one impress me apart from Stuart Downing tonight. We are crap and spend so much time passing the ball in our half rather than in Liverpool half.

Did Reina had a save to make ?

Downing -Hogg -and Fonz came away with any plus's. Ireland had his best game, he brought hiomself to the level of the rest of the team. Martin Jol anyone?
