Appropriate questions to the General, please.
-
Whoop whoop first one!
Hello again general. Can I ask what your plans are for xmas. Also, is someone taking a close look at the current training regime at Villa, with all the injuries loike.
All the best UTV
-
Whoop. Second one.
General. Can I ask what plans are in hand for ground development at Villa Park?
-
Whoop! Third!
General, how often do you make it to matches these days, and do you ever tour the Upper Holte?
-
Whoop fourth
Will we be getting the big screen back.
-
General,
is the club concerned about the terrible bout of whooping cough that has affected this thread?
-
General, the old management had a regime that encouraged secrecy within the club on pain of all sorts of nasty fines, sackings, litigation and so on. Has that changed under GH, has it been loosened or does Randy encourage such as normal business practice.
In light of the above query, is it possible as our injury list is now beyond belief and some players should be returning to fitness, is it possible to offer the fans a player injury update on a weekly basis.
-
General, does the rebuilding of the North Stand depend on England Winning the bid for hosting the world cup?
-
Whoop fourth
Will we be getting the big screen back.
If the General has to answer this again it might get nasty...
Not until the North Stand is renovated will it be returning. It's currently having a nice rest in the bowls of the stadium.
-
those alleged experienced quality footballers let down the youngsters yet again...
i hope they are as ashamed of themselves as i am tonight...
no excuses for that lack of desire... disgraceful...

I don't think it was lack of desire we were just beaten by a better team it happens
-
Your question is...?
-
General, it appears that the club is already in a fight for survival this season and my question is about invesment should we go down. Will Randy be more careful with his spending between now and the end of the season in anticipation of losing the huge TV money from being in the Premier League? If we do go down will Randy be as able to finance the club as he is now? It may seem early to consider this but we are in big trouble and today showed just how far behind we have fallen.
-
General,
Is Randy attending games at the moment ?
We are in for a really hard time now - in fact, relegation could be a possibility if we don't improve and quickly.
I don't expect you to say ' I agree, let's get relegated' but maybe some words of inspiration for the fans ?
Oh and regarding Randy - I ask because you really have to be there to witness the pain.
-
I hope Randy will give Houllier a generous transfer fund for January.
-
Hi General.
First the big screen has been taken away from the north stand and now the time has been taken away on the mini scoreboard.
I sit in the holte upper and currently hear nothing through the tannoys, cannot see any replay's because of the screen taken away and now I do not know what minute it is as the mini scoreboard no longer shows the timing.
Please can you look in to it for me, thank you.

could you see how shit we were in the first half gibbo and how bereft of players we are, or were you just moaning about the scoreboard?
Feck the scoreboard, we are in big shit as a club! The general needs to be asked what action is to be taken!!

And you know as well as everyone else that he does not, and will not, answer questions about playing matters.

General Krulak here:
1. First and foremost, I did see the game today and so did Randy. It was not our best outing...certainly in the first half. I will not make any excuses because that doesn't help the situation. You all know where we are with the Squad and we simply must live with the situation until lads get healthy. I also recognize that there are MANY concerned fans out there...who see relegation staring us in the face. I am not one of those. We still have a lot of the season ahead and lads that will be coming back to the squad soon. I am not about to throw in the towel and start worrying about what happens if we are relegated because I just do NOT think that is going to happen.
2. For those who wonder about Randy's support of the Club....I have made it clear on multiple occasions, he has always supported the Club. One need only look at the money he has put into players to realize that he has supported the Club.
3. We are in a tough time...we recognize that fact. As they use to say in the old west, "it ain't purity" right now! But we have a long way to go and we have a squad that, when healthy, can do great things. We also have an opportunity to strengthen the squad. Right now the best thing we can do is get behind GH and the lads and support them to the fullest. I am not being a pollyanna....but I am also not ready to give up. It just isn't in me to throw in the towel.
4. The walshmeister: I will be spending Christmas with my children and grandchildren. We have looked at our training regime.
5. Alandare: Ground development..or stadium development? We have already indicated that we will be working on the N. stand in the future.
6. I try to make it to at least one or two games a month and yes, I have been in the Upper Holte...I have been in all the stands.
7. cdvillafan: As I have said many times before, the big screen will be back after renovation.
8. Timthevillan: Yes, Randy is at almost every game...home and away. The only time he is not at a game is if there is a family event he needs to be at or if the timing is off with the Browns. When that happens, he alternates between the two. It rarely happens.
-
Not a question but can I say respect to you General coming on this forum giving us your views at what is at best a difficult time for the club. Thanks.
-
General,
I never asked about the big screen!

Just an idea. look at your watch or mobile phone at kick off. Then you count the minutes gone...
-
I came on here to ask the general to make a small enquiry to change a mini scoreboard back to showing the scores and timing.
Why do people feel the need to respond unconstructavly?
This thread is for questions to the General, cheers.
-
Hi General Krulak, given the undoubted strength of our academy, are there plans to increase investment at that level? I'd rather we nurtured players rather than paid wads to people who are happy to sit on the subs bench.
-

It was a fair question, I was straining my neck to look at the time on the other scoreboard from The Holte.

Same here. And because I'm particular like that, I thought the old display just looked more classy over the big, brash view we had yesterday.
-
Hi General,
A previously asked question - sorry to go on about it....
You said a while back that there was an ongoing discussion about the shelf life of the new shirt. Has a descision been made yet?
I am still reluctant to buy a shirt at full price which will be out of date by May.
If we are to have another change for next season, then I will probably just wait for the clearance sale and get this one cheaper.
Cheers.

Hello General, just a quick question. Why do I get bodysearched everytime I come to VP.I don't get searched anywhere else (apart from flying for obvious reasons).
-
3. We are in a tough time...we recognize that fact. As they use to say in the old west, "it ain't purity" right now! But we have a long way to go and we have a squad that, when healthy, can do great things.
thanks for your input general, but i disagree when fit that we have a squad that can do great things , i believe we have a manager who can take us further than o neill did but i feel the board will have to realise the squad o neill left behind is not really that good without milner and we will need to invest heavily to address this.
I may have missed your reply but has a decision been taken on the longevity of the new kit as to whether it will be till the season ends or include next season ?
-
Hello General, just a quick question. Why do I get bodysearched everytime I come to VP.I don't get searched anywhere else (apart from flying for obvious reasons).
Oh we do. We get our bags searched at virtually every ground and a lot of grounds do body searches.
My apologies for replying to a question to the General.
-

I bet most home fans don't. I have a S/T in the North Lower, when I have been in the Doug Ellis or The Trinity I have not been searched. Do these searches go on all over VP or just for the North Stand Lower?
-
bigad82, no we don't get body searched in the Trinity although we do have any bags we have with us searched.

Thanks for that villajk, so it's looks like it's the people in the cheap seats that get searched then. I wonder why that is then?
-
bigad82, no we don't get body searched in the Trinity although we do have any bags we have with us searched.
And you can't take a bottle in with the top on, but a metal flask of hot coffee is fine !!!
-
That's true TimTheVillain, and again, all grounds have the same rule.
Sorry for hijacking the thread, General.
I do have a question actually. We go in the Holte Suite before the game and some women regularly come in collecting for a Children's Charity.
Surely as we are associated with Acorns any such collections should be for Acorns and not any other, vague, charity?
I think people put money in the collection tins thinking it is going to Acorns.
-
Speaking of getting searched and bags getting searched... why is it that you have to take a small plastic top off a plastic bottle? It's one of the most strangest things I've ever have to do, do Health and Safety really think a tiny plastic cap is going to injure someone if a person throws it? I see a man who's allowed to bring his metal flask into the ground which could REALLY injure someone. I find that rule very odd and genuinely would like to know the answer to.
-
Just take the lid off and put it in your pocket/sock before you go in.
-
Tim, i think it's more to do with the fact that the whole bottle can be used as a missile with the top on, rather than just the top. I'd have thought that was fairly obvious but hey ho.
Probably get searched in the North because you're next to the away fans. I never get searched in the Holte.
Sorry to answer on your behalf General. May save you having to do so.
-

Last time there was coin throwing it came from the Trinity. We can't spare the coins in the North.

What about a much more heavy metal flask which contains very hot liquid which could cause serious injury? Just seems silly I think. If people really wanted to throw missiles they'd just use an empty beer bottle.
-
I should imagine the type of person who takes a flask to a match, such as my mom, is not too likely to be the type to throw it.
Are the beer bottles not plastic in your stand?
Sorry mods. I'll stop hijacking now.
-

That's not the point though, if they're gonna make rules it should be made fair for everyone. What about if a younger person brought a flask into the ground?
I have seen glass beer bottles in the concourse of the North Stand, I don't drink so I don't know what the norm is of how they serve them.
Sorry for the thread jacking too, just was wondering about something when the whole searching/flask/bottle discussion was brought up.
-
General,
further to the above re searching can I ask what the purpose of the search actually is?Is it for alcohol o for weapons or a bit of both? Its just that the search is so superficial it would be easy to get either in anyway should people wish. Whenever I have gone through the turnstile over the last few years I get at best a quick pat of my coat pockets and an even quicker one of my back.
I dont mind being searched at all it just I dont really see the point?
-
At the moment I think they're searching for anyone bringing their own football boots into the stadium - he would be rushed to the changing room immediately ;)
-
I had my flask in my bag on saturday, I am 40, and didn't get searched in the north stand. Not sure how many plastic bottle related crimes we had before we banned the bottle tops, me being cynical thinks it's more to do with flogging over priced drinks in the ground.
It's like going to the cricket and being banned from taking alcohol in but you can drink yourself to death at £4 a pint.

I think you can bring your own plastic bottles into the ground, but the stewards at the turnstiles will ask you to take it off and put it in the bin. I see loads of people hiding stuff under their jackets or jumpers so they don't have to be hassled over something pointless. No-one wants to spend something silly like £2 for a bottle of pop.
-
Incredible - things are falling apart on the pitch, a relegation battle looks increasingly likely and here we are talking about getting searched and scoreboards!!
I know, I know - I'll find another thread!!!

-
General,
Do people in the states moan about trivial items like we do? Do you also have to tell them the same answer a hundred times?
On a serious note, are there any suggestion that you have taken from H&V, used them at the Villa, then thought that they were good enough to impliment into the match day experience for the Browns?
-
any chance of an official update on the injuries General ?

Or just drink the drink and throw the bottle. That'll do more damage than the top. :)

General, Rico here. Long time Villa fan, but newbie on this site. General you've obviously had a long and distnguished career in the Marines. I'm interested to know what your opinion is of the modern sports star/athlete. Also interested to know what your opinion is of the current injury situation at the club and how does the physical fitness of a premier league footballer compare to a proffessional soldier who ultimately may have to go out and kill or be killed, and are there any training tips or solutions that could be brought from the armed forces to Bodymoor Heath. I for one think it would be hilarious for some of our pampered stars to have a drill sargeant giving them a beasting, and if it toughens them up a little then so much the bettter.
Cheers. Rico.

General Krulak here:
1. Support to the Academy: The Club certainly recognizes the importance of the Academy...and it has become even more apparent this year. We have continually raised the budget of the Academy to meet the needs of the Club and will continue to do so.
2. The duration of the shirt has been posted on the OS...it will be for this year only.
3. Searches: I understand that there are concerns about the searches. There are several reasons for conducting the searches and all of them, for the most part, are tied to safety or security. As someone indicated, a bottle with a cap on it...in the hands of an individual who may have had too much to drink...can become a heat-seeking missile. Who would have ever thought a coin could have caused the damage it did. Obviously, the searches are not going to turn up an explosive that is hidden in someone's shorts but...random searches can help overall security and safety. We live in a crazy world and we need to understand that fact.
4. Invest: As you know, I do not talk about players, windows, etc. Suffice it to say that Randy has never backed away from investing in the Club. He will depend heavily on GH and his view of what needs to be done. As we all know, the winter is not the best window...every Club is in the midst of their season and are looking to keep their good players. GH has a good scouting system going and we have faith that he will do what needs to be done.
-
You're right General, we do live in a crazy world. Thanks, George Bush, you crazy war-mongering, hlf-witted, jumped-up, election stealing, corrupt buffoon. Anyway, this may be something already answered and known but how long is the manager's contract? How many of the current staff are tied into his stay at Villa?
-
Thanks for the reply re the longevity of the shirt General. Much appreciated.
I don't agree with the policy of changing it next season or the fact that this current one is full price despite having only recently been released.
Sorry to say that this customer will be not buying something which is not value for money.
This is a cock up by Nike and Villa have apparantley not demanded any recompense. To say that the price has been frozen from last season isn't good enough as it is already an expensive enough item.
Although Mr Lerner has been more supporter friendly than any other chairman in living memory,I don't feel that this issue has been addressed enough and as usual the fans are the ones who suffer. It is bad enough that the season ticket is no longer the value for money it once was with the continued price drops for matchday tickets.
This may only be a small issue for the club but I feel a little let down by it all.

General
I bought half season tickets in October. I had planned to come to the Villa shop this weekend to do some Christmas shopping and obviously use the 10% discount available to season ticket holders. I've been told by the ticket office that they think the new system in the shop means you have to have your season card with you to get the discount but the half season ticket cards haven't been sent out yet. They've given me the club shop number but that goes to a voicemail for mail orders. Is there a contact at the club who can confirm the shop's system please?
I would have thought you could take advantage of the discount as soon as the club have your money?
I asked the ticket office if they couldn't just use my client reference number as proof I'd bought a season ticket but they didn't seem to think they would do that in the shop.
Incidentally, does anyone know if the free printing on new shirts is available still?
Thanks in advance.
-
Use the receipt from your ST purchase to show the checkout staff to get your 10%
-
Use the receipt from your ST purchase to show the checkout staff to get your 10%
I haven't got one, booked them over the phone. The ticket office said they think the shop has to actually swipe your season card on the new system they are using. That's what I'm trying to find out but can't get through to the shop. If it was just a case of showing a receipt then surely they could just bring up my client code on the system.
-
Aha looks like questions concerning injury updates won't be answered either. Anyone any contacts at WiKi Leaks.
-
Been watching Barcelona V Real Madrid tonight and they had 9 out of 11 players developed from Academy and they use Cryuff's beliefs and methods to produce players. Our Academy is good, but would like to see our method be similar to Barcelona. I would like to see our academy staff to go to Barcelona and have a look at their method to see if we can learn from them. As obviously buying lot of players doesn't work.
-
Be nice if like Barcelona we supplimented the youth with players like Messi too, don't you think, to say nothing of winning top trophies consistently.
Perhaps one day we will .

Messi has been at Barcelona since he was 13, he's as much a part of their youth setup as Bannan is of ours.

Any chance we could recall Curtis Davies from Leicester, play him in one league game, then send him back again, just to put an end to this "clause in contract" nonsense?
Thanks.

Do you think we will be bringing in expensive kids from Argentina in the future then ?

Expensive kids from Argentina?
How expensive can a 13 year old be?
-

hold on. I hadn't even thought of it until you mentioned it Dave!!
c'mon paulie, why are you fueling Mrs O's drivel?
-
we have forked out for youngsters...
harry forrester was quite expensive, 1m for a 14 year old, i think... gareth barry cost half a mil as a 16 year old...
thats not cheap...
its not like we havent brought in players from across the globe either... mika aaritalo was highly rated and brought in, magnus troest, fabio ferraresi, etc...
currently, herd is a convict, and you cant get much further away than that!

General,
Who do you think will win the Superbowl (Barring a Cleveland miracle)?
I originally backed Green Bay, but would now like to hedge my bets a little.
Cheers.
-
Excellent article on the Academy in the Times, General.
Well done to all concerned.
-
yea, i was very pleased about the section on ben petty and what he was doing with the 7-11 year olds...
for that, he very much deserves a pat on the back...
-
As it only cost 2 millions a year to run academy. We could do it for two or three other clubs to increase our influence and get a much wider range of players and ability to place players on loan. So we can have Aston Villa B, C, D Team :)
-
General Krulak here:
1. sfx412: I must have missed the injury question. What is it that you would like to know...specific players? The entire list? No one is trying to avoid the question.
2.peterw: How do you REALLY feel about President Bush?
3. cambsvilla: I understand your concern and have commented on this issue many times since this summer. I think most know what happened...and it was not the fault of your Club. As for the kit itself, we have a contract that we need to follow...and that contract calls for a kit next year. Each fan can decide for themselves if they want to buy this year or not....we understand that as a fact of life. I disagree that the ST is not a good deal...it is a very good deal. Last year proved that in spades when we went to Wembley and ST holders were assured of seats. Likewise, ST holders have their seats guaranteed at Villa Park...they pick them. We have fans complaining that the stadium is not filled and we have fans who are complaining that we have reduced prices for some games...you cannot satisfy everyone.
4. If you have an issue with the store, call John Greenfield at AVFC ext 500.
5. HUGE game today...UP THE VILLA!!!!!!!

General,
You know that smell of napalm in the morning, mixed with vomit, untreated sewerage, 15 day-old sweaty armpits, decomposing flesh and rotting organs, and garlic? Yes, Okay, just making sure you had been to St Andrews. If not don't ever go. Takes months to wash the stink out of you. I hear the Witton Lane is still being fumigated since they last visited.
-
General,
I really appreciate your honesty.
Thanks for the reply.
Despite my rant,I will still be there come rain, shine and EXTREMELY cold weather!
Enjoy the game tonight - ALL OF US!

Be honest General, this isn't going very well is it?
-
General,
Do you think it accurate to suggest that if Blues win the League Cup then they have achieved more than Villa have during Lerner's tenure?
At the moment I would not be at all surprised if Blues even go on to finish higher in the league standings at the end of the season.
Are there any other rich Chinese businessmen looking to buy a football club?

Appalling lack of respect, particularly that last statement. This isn't good, but I don't think you should be slating Randy's ownership.
-
There's a rumour that one of our defenders is in training for the international pie eating tournament, is the club giving the lad our full backing?
-

Slightly tongue-in-cheek; however these are questions for the General not you with all due respect ;)
General, I also agree with 'Malandro'; is there any logical reason why Houllier persists in playing a very slow and under-performing Richard Dunne?
-
The general won't be answering playing side questions, as we all know.
Can we also not use this thread as an excuse to lash out at him?
-
Fuck the overpaid tossers.
-

Overpaid, I agree with that part of the sentance. Eloquently put though ;)
-

Am I allowed to ask why Richard Dunne is looking so unhealthy and overweight? I work out 5 days a week, can bench press 180lbs and do 1 hour of cardio after I finish with the weights... and I'm not getting 50k to be doing that - why isn't Richard Dunne doing that? He's meant to be a professional ATHLETE.
It's a genuine question - no joking around.
-
I was concerned by your post general last week that when fit our squad can achieve great things- I see a handful of quality players and a lot of average players here- the blame for which has to go to martin o neill who bought those players.
Houllier will get it right but he needs the backing and understanding of the board - I do not agree with you general that this squad can achieve great things when injury free, I do agree that houllier can achieve great things if we fully back him and give him time and money!
-
The general won't be answering playing side questions, as we all know.
Can we also not use this thread as an excuse to lash out at him?
Am I allowed to ask why Richard Dunne is looking so unhealthy and overweight? I work out 5 days a week, can bench press 180lbs and do 1 hour of cardio after I finish with the weights... and I'm not getting 50k to be doing that - why isn't Richard Dunne doing that? He's meant to be a professional ATHLETE.
It's a genuine question - no joking around.
I'd have a word with OCD if I were you. That, apparently, is a complete waste of time.

Thanks for the heads up... might see what OCD says. I used to do cardio before the weights but then when it actually came around to lifting I was feeling a bit tired near the end and didn't finish some reps. I was advised to do my cardio after and now I feel better for it.
EDIT: oops meant to say 1/2 hour of cardio in original post... didn't mean 1 hour of cardio lol.

General,
I understand if it's impossible to find out but I need to settle a bet.
How many Claret seats are there in Villa Park, and how many Blue ones?
-
General simple question I just wondered if it was possible for the club to keep fans updated on the huge list of injuries nothing more. When we have one or two injuries its easy to check usually via the media but with so many and with such different injuries its impossible.
I appreciate under Mon such info would not be forthcoming, but then neither were the injuries, I'd hope Houllier is not so secretive.

1. sfx412: I must have missed the injury question. What is it that you would like to know...specific players? The entire list? No one is trying to avoid the question.

General,
I made my first visit to St Andrew in over fifteen years last night and I think we may be lagging behind them in just one respect. We provide pre-match and half time entertainment but SHA have grabbed the bull by the horns and also offer post match entertainment for fans staying behind. We all enjoyed a firework display, some dancing chimps on the pitch, an arial display by the WMP helicopter that they had thoughtfully organised and finally a game of charades where unfit middle aged men in the stands make hand gestures and you had to guess whether they wanted to kick your head in or cut your throat.
Have the board got any plans for post match entertainment at VP?

Ha ha, that's quite good actually.

I'd love to know the answer to that question too. How much of the ludicrous amount of wages he is paid for not even looking like a professional footballer does he spend in Iceland, Macdonalds, KFC etc? I'm sure he gives hope to all overweight sunday league footballers the world over.
-
do james collins and richard dunne have ankle and knee knocks respectively at the moment?
could be the only thing to explain how attrocious they are playing...

Very good. That shall be borrowed.

General, have richard Dunne and James Collins fallen out with each other. Must have as they don't bleeding well communicate on the pitch anymore.
-

Be great for the official site to have an injuries update column to give us daily reports on new injuries, causation, expected recovery date, and of course updates as they improve.
As I've said earlier normally it is of little concern but at the moment its most's major concern General, next to Dunne's weight

General
With the news that Russia will host the 2018 World Cup is the North Stand re-development/re-build now on hold. Will plans be revised and other options considered?
Thank you and best wishes

General Krulak here:
1. There is NOTHING i can say to make the pain in my gut go away!!!! I am on the site today but still have a terrible taste in my mouth.
2. Injuries:
Albrighton...had appendix removed...making excellent progress.
Hogg...ankle sprain...back in full training
NRC...knee injury...out for another 2 weeks minimum
Collins...made excellent progress with muscle strain and is back to playing
Beye...ankle sprain...back in full training
Sidwell...achilles tendon...6-8 weeks out
Heskey...surgery...hope to be back soon
Cuellar...calf injury...back in training
Weimann...ankle injury...long time to go
Delph...knee...won't return to full training for a couple of months...making good progress
Petrov...knee...again, making good progress but still a long way to go
This is quite a list of talented players who have been out and/or will be out. Each of these lads are working very hard to get back to playing on the Pitch...they know they are needed and are anxious to help the team. At the same time, we need to be sure that they are ready to come back...we don't want them to come back only to be re-injured. The key point is that each one of these lads want to get back into action.
3. Namaste: Not sure what value there is to your statement re. a new owner.

-
Thanks General very interesting, great to see Cuellar back in training and NRC nearly there

General
What action will be taken to those Villa "fans" identified as responsible for throwing flares, ripping out seats and vandalising toilets last night. Again a small number of idiots have shamed this club.
Also, do you think it is time these fixtures should now be home fans only?
-
Hi General,
Would it be possible to arrange a few blacked out C130,s to drop in at B,ham International, & prehaps apply " extreme rendition" to a place far, far away for those idiots we saw misbehaving last night???
-
Perhaps Villa and blues need to get together and promote something to stop this bad feeling and violence between both side. As it is not good for West Midlands football.

1. SalsaPartyAnimal: I think you make a good suggestion...because the reality is, we are doing nothing to further the reputation of the midlands as a football community. Unfortunately, there are a few fans on both sides who are willing to take a very hard-fought rivalry to something akin to real warfare. I think many of us truly worry about the day that the flames really ignite and we have something terrible happen. I wish I knew the answer...it is sort of like the old family feuds here in the US...once started, very hard to stop. I do know that AVFC security are working on this latest incident very hard...video tape is available to help catch the culprits.
-
well done on giving gary gardner a new contract...
i assume it was the likes of cowans etc who convinced houllier to do that, despite houllier never managing to see him play...
bravo for that...
the youth have been the only positive on what has been a pretty miserable season so far...
-
General, not sure if anyone has asked this yet, but given England lost on 2018, does that alter the club's development plans for Villa Park? Was there a Plan A so to speak, had we won the bid and a contingency given that we didn't?
-
General,
I understand that club officials are meeting with Blues officials in the next week to discuss the problems on Wednesday.
This is my idea to suggest to them...
Would it be possible for the non-violent majority to hold up a massive banner at the next Blues game saying "BLUES AGAINST HOOLIGANISM" or some such thing?
I think a lot of fans see themselves as upholding club pride by behaving like pricks to opposing fans, would be nice for them to see that most of their own fans can't stand them.
If Blues do this I see no reason why Villa can't do similarly (obviously "VILLA AGAINST HOOLIGANISM") in our next home game.
-
i really hope general that you have a large transfer pot ready for gerard in jan as we are in a battle to stay in this division!
It is ok saying about the players to come back, well whilst they are not playing we are falling further down the chute!
A damn hard season in prospect!

-
General,
Have you managed to get into cricket yet? If so, would you declare now or go back in for an hour in the morning with KP and Bell being told to just open the bat up and put more runs on the board?
-
General,
tell them to bloody declare! Rain is forecasted for day five there's no time for messing around.

I witnessed with disgust the destruction in the toilets but there was no sign of police or even stewards. Surely it would be cost-effective for both clubs, knowing it is certain to happen again, to employ some effective security against these yobs who would at least think twice and probably run away like the cowards they are, similar to the Blues fans on the pitch when the police line moved forward. Incidentally, to those 'fans' singing "what a F***ing Shithole" while peeing up the wall OUTSIDE the toilets, have you seen the facilities we have in the North Stand?
-
I have been watching The Pacific (from makers of bands of brothers) this week and it is very interesting history and drama about World War II in Pacific Circle and about a group of US Marines. It must be awful with bad weather, no cover, and Japanese fighting method. It also mentioned John Basilone.
Have you seen it.

General Krulak here:
1. As has been said many times, I do not do transfers nor do I do transfer windows. What I do know is that Randy has supported his Manager and I would imagine he would continue to do so. As we all know, the Winter window is never the most productive...most teams are fighting for position and are not up for selling their good players. At the same time, GH knows the player scene and availability and will do what he needs to do.
2. I am not a cricket fan. Games are too long and too boring. I am also not a baseball fan for the same reasons.
3. I watched the Pacific series and thought it was very good. My father fought in the Pacific during WW II and many of the places mentioned were places he fought at.
4. I will be at a Board Meeting for the next two days so will be off the site for 48 hours. I will be back!!
-
2. I am not a cricket fan. Games are too long and too boring.
I'm not angry, just disappointed.

Sir, if I may...
"The Navy Cross is presented to Victor H. Krulak, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism as Commanding Officer of the Second Battalion, First Marine Parachute Regiment, during operations on Choiseul Island, Solomon Islands, October 28 to November 3, 1943. Assigned the task of diverting hostile attention from the movements of our main attack force en route to Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville Island, Lieutenant Colonel Krulak landed at Choiseul and daringly directed the attack of his battalion against the Japanese, destroying hundreds of tons of supplies and burning camps and landing barges. Although wounded during the assault on October 30, he repeatedly refused to relinquish his command and with dauntless courage and tenacious devotion to duty, continued to lead his battalion against the numerically superior Japanese forces. His brilliant leadership and indomitable fighting spirit assured the success of this vital mission and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
Bravo.
For those who dont know, the Navy Cross is second only to the Medal of Honor.
Apparently none other than the future President John F Kennedy, a PT boat commander at the time, helped withdraw the General's father's unit. The General's father promised him a bottle of Whiskey for the effort and delivered twenty years later when Kennedy was in the White House.
Sounds like something from a movie, yet true.
-
General,
You must have been very proud of your father.
Heroic man indeed.

To me
The navy - Fight on sea with ships / boats / submarine
The Airforce - Fight on air with helicopters and planes
The army / Marines - fight on land with weapons.
What the different between Marines and Army ? Why two different department ? Just interested to know. I have no idea.

Hi General K,
Newcastle United have just sacked their manager and MON has been installed as favourite to takeover. Given he left us in the lurch I imagine that we still hold his contract until next August.
It would be great to think that if he did want this job that we did not allow him to take it given the shit he dropped us in.

This was just mentioned in the Hughton thread, any chance we could nab Hughton to be our defensive coach, we need clean sheets and he used to be a quality defender? ;)
-
Salsa, just think of Marines as naval infantry. Although modern warfare requires them to be adaptable to all situations.
All Marine forces around the world answer to their Naval heirarchy to a degree and are part of its infrastructure, its just in the case of the US marines, their sheer size requires more comprehensive organisation to become for all intents and purposes, its own branch of the military.
There are probably only a handful of combined national armed forces around the globe that can compare with just the US Marines on their own. Our own General probably commanded something in the region of 300,000 troops at any given time with their own ships, armoured units (light and heavy) and considerable air assets.
-
Admit youve made a complete porridge of this and get MON back NOW! we are going down with this manager, do you hear me!! Down, Barnsley away for us next year
and a serious heamoragge of fans unless you pull your finger out
-
This is a thread for questions to the General, not emotive statements about our diabolical display at Anfield. There is a match thread for that.
-
Ok... General how long is Gerard houllier going to be given before we are staring down the championship barrel as thats where we are heading
-
take this to the board general, 4 premier league wins is terrible and performances like tonight's at anfield are unacceptable....simple as that
-
General get our tin hat at the ready .
Its going to get messy .
-
General, how bad is Cuellar in training? He must do impressions of Bernie Gallagher and Brendan Ormsby if he isn't considered good enough to play in that team.
-
Evening General,
can you tell our manager never to touch that anfield badge ...
-
General, after yet another meek surrender, when is somebody at the club going to show some leadership? Dunne as captain, Houllier as manager and Lerner as owner, none of them able to inspire it seems.
-
General, after yet another meek surrender, when is somebody at the club going to show some leadership? Dunne as captain, Houllier as manager and Lerner as owner, none of them able to inspire it seems.
Watching our Managers attitude at Liverpool tonight was hard to take, does he not realise how important our club is to us?
-
Sorry General, but it's a plea rather than a question. Please pass on this message to Gerard Houllier: try to show at least 1/1000th of the pride you show in having once managed Liverpool, in managing Aston Villa. Thanks.
-
Gerenal, sir, may I suggest disbanding the club? We've had our good times, let's just all move on. Set the players free into the wild (tell them you're taking them for ice cream or something - Dunne will like that), and just forget we ever met up every other week. Maybe we could turn the stadium over to the local Dog's Trust - lots of grass to walk them on.
-

He's a cock. Seems almost as clueless as MON.
-
General,
if Ashley is going to wear a 'snood' all winter like a big girl's blouse can we persuade him to wear one with a Villa badge on it which we could then sell in the club shop to make some money out of it? I noticed one of the Liverpool players wearing a Liverpool FC-branded one and it gave me the idea.
-
General,I think it's time for some straight talking. If the owner is unwilling to commit his time to our club then can we have a Chairman/CEO who has been in the game longer than 5 minutes. The ship seems to be sinking without a captain.
-
General
after losing to the worse Liverpool team in 50 years, Houllier goes waving to the kop rather than acknowledge the fans who never stopped singing all night even though the shower on the pitch couldn't give a shit.
I implore Randy to show some leadership and get us a proper manager and not an old man who spends more time reminiscng about a time when he knew what he was doing.
Never mind the injuries we are a shambles. Our fully fit defence and goalkeeper are the worst in the league
-

Agreed. Making a point of touching the Anfield sign then waving at the Liverpool fans at the end is unbelievable behaviour General. Please can you leave the manager in no doubt that ghat Dort of behaviour is totally unacceptable.
-
General
I don't want to appear as over reacting to the abysmal start to the season, but ...
What does the senior management team actually do?
What do they see as their main achievements since the takeover of the club?
What are their objectives for the remainder of this season?
What are the objectives for the next couple of years?
From where I'm sitting the answers would appear to be 'nothing', 'nothing', 'survive' and 'survive'.
Glad it's not my kid's inheritence that's been 'invested'.
I'm off to watch the cricket - it might be long and boring - but at least the team I support is well managed, has a plan and looks likely to win.
Maybe speak soon?
-
General, this club is going backwards at an alarming rate and Randy and co seem to be sitting back and doing nothing about it.
Oh and I never thought I'd see the day a Villa manager go to Liverpool and touch the 'This is Anfield' badge. I knew right then we'd lose.
This is the worst Villa team in years, by the way. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!
-
General, get down to VP and give that team one of your marine speeches.
My season ticket is in an envelope addressed to Randy. A couple more performances like that and I'm gonna buy a stamp.
The rest will be history!
-
General, he obviously has a great interview technique otherwise i'm at a loss to understand how he was appointed but could you please let the manager know that the relegation places aren't decided by alphabetical order?
-

Thirded. Please remind the manager he is a Villa Manager and not a Liverpool manager. Our fans had to travel and put up with an inept performance on show and yet get snubbed in favour of scouse fans from OUR manager.
-
We are worse than 5 years ago.
-

I have to agree. I was in staunch support of giving Houllier the time he needed but after this, is it fickle of me to want him gone? This is not a view based on the performance, but of his apparent complete lack of respect for our club.
-
General,
Besides the injuries, these are well documented and everyone is aware of them....
What do you think is going wrong with us at the moment, our form has been terrible for a number of weeks. We cannot keep saying we have played well but not got the results, tonight was an awful performance whatever way you look at it.
Is this Randy's lowest time as owner of the club thus far, and is he going to react by doing something about it, either through funds for the manager or re-investing this in getting a new boss.
This is a clearly unacceptable situation we very realistically could be in the relegation zone come the turn of the year, is this acceptable for Randy given the fact he has invested so much time and energy into the club?
The previous manager left at a very bad time for us, but this has now passed and the current form is that of a relegation candidate.
What are we going to do to sort this sorry mess out?
I can accept losing to a better team, or being unlucky in a game because of poor decisions from officials, but what I cannot accept is a lack of fight or passion and tonight we saw non at all. It was truly awful.
-

I agree totally. He also touched the 'This is Anfield' Sign as he walked out at the start. Get rid if he can't focus 100% on us. Get him told please and in no uncertain terms...
-
It's beginning to look a lot like relegation, General.
-
General - does Richard Dunne wear an XXXL size shirt or a XXXXL shirt?
-
It is time for Randy to get tough with the manager as he have not delivered the good. He doesn't show passion or heart for Aston Villa. The players have no fighting spirit, drive, leadership or passion. If we don't sort it out we will be relegated.
-
Nice to see GH has started to have his influence on the team and great that it is the French will to surrender rather than fight. Fuck him off before we collapse completely
-
Absolutely furious General.Liverpool had a 12th man tonight ,Houllier !!
-
General an appology from our manager is the least we can expect, his attitude tonight is that of a traitor, you need to get your PR guys on this pretty dam quick
-
General, Sir, you've said you're here to deal with the rough and the smooth. It's pretty bumpy now to say the least. What do you have to offer in terms of a response to the above posts?
-
Bit over the top. A traitor? Not that, but showing two of the worst traits of our former two managers, that's for sure. Like DOL, he is somewhat gushing in respects of his love for his former club, and like MON, he is unwilling to change a part of the team that is letting us down in a big way at the moment. All in all, not very impressive from the new manager.
-
The French arrive at Villa Park and we start surrendering on the pitch.
-
General - does Richard Dunne wear an XXXL size shirt or a XXXXL shirt?
Whatever size it is, Houllier hands it to him.
-
General an appology from our manager is the least we can expect, his attitude tonight is that of a traitor, you need to get your PR guys on this pretty dam quick
I wouldn't wait for an apology. Instant dismissal territory for me....
-
General
This is poor, The players don't seem to give a shit we were barely going through the motions, Im glad Torres & Gerrard weren't playin or we really would have been in the shit.
I don't know if the manager was waving to the liverpool supporters but if he was it was totally unacceptable
-
Houllier waving to the Kop. Disgrace. Absolute disgrace!!!!!!
-
Here's the thing General... we are not the Cleveland Browns, lets be real - they're crap, but atleast they'll never have to be relegated and they get a good draft pick nearly every season because they're not very good - we're Aston Villa, we've got high expectations, relegation is just a complete no-go - when you're relegated, that's it whereas if you're the Cleveland Browns it's just ''oh well, another bad season atleast we'll get a good draft pick maybe we'll get 6 wins next season" - you don't really get punished if you have a bad season whereas will be punished for having a bad season. You've seen what has happened to Leeds and Forest, it can take years and years of rebuilding after being relegated - we can't afford to do that, we're not in a lucky position like the Cleveland Browns where they get a second chance every season, relegation is very punishing.
I don't care if I'm overreacting, these are my natural feelings I just feel so depressed right now. If we lose to the baggies fans WILL start to turn onto Houllier and that will make the situation even worse. Time to stop complaining about injuries, yes we've been dealt a bad hand but we've got to carry on - injuries isn't an excuse for losing 4 Premier League games in a row and in general, playing pathetic. We HAVE to win on Saturday otherwise it could get ugly.
-
Houllier waving to the Kop. Disgrace. Absolute disgrace!!!!!!
And now he's just thanked them for chanting his name. Not a mention of the Villa fans. Unbelievable.
-
Dear General. We can all understand why Gerard Houllier was appointed in the circumstances, but it was a mistake and will have to be corrected in order to avoid a very costly relegation.
-
General K,
sorry but this is a disgrace, Houllier has just thanked the Liverpool fans for singing his name and a banner and not acknowledged the Villa fans who spent their har earned to go and support the team. The man is an utter disgrace and doesn't give a flung about Aston Villa or it's supporters.
If Randy doesn't do something about this then he obviously doesn't feel the for the club like us supporters do. I have never been so angry about a manager than tonight and I have been defending him for weeks.
Unbelieveable disrespect for our fans
-
I trust he will have been sacked by this time tomorrow evening. I am sure the board are intelligent enough to realise this can't continue. I have every faith in them to wipe the floor with him after his disgusting behaviour tonight...
-
I have no problem with him being courteous enough to acknowledge the generous reception he recieved from the Liverpool fans, but to not mention the Villa fans who made the journey up the motorway to watch that shower of shit is downright disrespectful. For someone as experienced as him he should know better.
-
General
I hope the board meeting is interesting. There are some difficult times ahead. 5 years in and this feels like the last year of Ellis's reign.
-
Sorry General i have defended Houllier the las weeks as he has been dealt a bad hand with injuries, but i cannot have another Manager at Aston Villa who doesn't respect our history and our supporters. He should not have nentioned their supporters and certainly shouldn't be waving to them. We are in deep trouble and the last thing we need is a manager who is not totally committed to the cause.
-
General, I hear Martin Jol has quit his job. Make a decision and GO AND GET HIM!
-
General,
I can handle a defeat, even against probably the worst Liverpool team in 30 odd years..but to have an Aston Villa manager act in the manner he did is unforgivable.
A total lack of respect shown to the club and its fans.

General, I hear Martin Jol has quit his job. Make a decision and GO AND GET HIM!
It might be a bit premature to say something like that but I can't help but think like that if we lose to the baggies...
Was never 100% by the Houllier appointment although I said I would give him my full backing, I really hope the board isn't wrong in this appointment because if they're Villa fans will just say ''I told you so''.
-
As others have said, this is relegation form. Some tough decisions to make.
-
General:
Is the club going to re-imburse the supporters that went up to a freezing Liverpool on a Monday night, - to watch that truly dreadful performace - their ticket and travel expenses?
-
General, its about time the club sorted this dreadful season out
Firstly the previous manager leaves
Secondly you sell our best player and replace him with a bloke who the next manager did not sign
Thirdly you appoint a bloke who maybe a font of knowledge but is 5 years past it
You got 3 weeks to sort it and give someone who knows what they are doing a month to sort this mess
If you dont your going to be real financial trouble with attendances dropping in the championship
-
All these posters up in arms over Houlliers comments & response to the Liverpool fans , get over yourself he's gone back to somewhere he had good times, fair play to him.
He has done nothing wrong . How many Managers comment on their own fans after a game.
-
You all seem to be glossing over my snood suggestion.
-
General I can promise you one thing, and that is if you do not deal with the disrespect Houlier showed Aston Villa tonight yours and Randys credibility will be seriously undermined.
-

Quite a lot actually, and dont forget, we pay his wages, not Liverpool.
-
General please remind Mr. Houllier he is in a position as manager of Aston Villa, tonight he seems to have forgotten.

Hopefully not .

Amongst all this sea of derision and contempt, I'll add another thing. I think Pelty's comments about Hogg in the match thread were a bit disgraceful for someone with obvious connections to the club. A lad making his third start for the club doesn't need to be criticised for being put in at the deep end and trying his hardest.
-

I agree. Now can we sack the twat....
-
How long can you persist with a manager before it gets so bad you just have to press the eject button? Is it better now to get in a manager who'll steady the ship and get us up climbling the table or do you wait even longer when things get even worse where you feel you've got to press the eject button? It's hard to know when we'll start climbing the table under Houllier, but the longer this disaterous form continues the worse it'll get, how long do you stand by a manager despite poor results continuing...
Should we stick by Houllier even if we're in the bottom 3 come Christmas General? Do we hope it just gets better or do we start taking action getting the person in who IS going to change our season around? Decisions decisions...
-
Was relegation part of the 5 year plan? I am seriously depressed. What a grim week. Beaten by the scum, hit in the face by a flying chair thrown by a fellow fan, thretened by screwdriver wielding zulu hoodies, hit by various coins, been beaten easily by worst liverpool side in my 31 year old lifetime and then watch the manager of my beloved club applaud the bindipping victim fans before our own who were absolutely superb. Absolute toss

Wouldn't it have been more deserved after the 5-0 there a couple of years ago, or the 7-0 at Chelsea last season, or the 6-0 at Newcastle this season?

Hogg is a victim of circumstance of our injuries and he is as somebody put it 'a baby'. Not much of a birthday for the lad.

From LFCs os;
He told his post-match press conference: "The fans were good. I appreciated the fact that they chanted my name at the end. It shows they can remember.
"There was also a banner at the start of the game. I was not emotional but I was extremely touched by that."
He added: "It's difficult to say but I prefer to lose 3-0 to Liverpool because I like Liverpool.

What do you make of the following comments attributed to our manager:
He added: "It's difficult to say but I prefer to lose 3-0 to Liverpool because I like Liverpool.
"I knew at 2-0 it would be difficult to come back. Had we scored maybe it would have been different.
"The first goal stunned us and the second one was vital because it meant the game was over. After that we took time to get back in the game. We didn't start playing.
"We finished the first half well and in the second half we did better. But we conceded a third goal on the break and that was it. Well done to Liverpool."
-
For all those people slagging Houllier for waving at the Kop and not acknowledging his own fans well I'm a bit pissed off he didn't seem to acknowledge us but how can you acknowledge fans who spent the best part of the second half of the match taking the piss out of their own team.
-
That last line should be his last spoken as manager of Aston Villa FC
-
I can't support the manager after that.

oh my fucking life, lost for words, disgusted!

Bit of sanity please.
Randy under normal circumstances is unlikely to sack a manager, and he's hardly likely to do so, so early on in Houllier's Villa career, no matter how useless he's looking.
He doesn't strike me the sort who will admit a mistake so obviously.
I'm sure eventually we will get the normal palliative, rhetorical messages about pulling together, injuries, to key players, and so on, so calm down.
We are now in a damage limitation exercise, requiring calm heads and cool thinking, its one we've had before, under the likes of Turner, Neal, o'Leary and so on, we have to hold council and hope we don't go down in the time it takes for common sense to prevail and a new manager found.
Is that not right General ?
Mind you I have to admit if Houllier seemed half as committed to Villa as he seems to the memory of Liverpool I'd be happier.
O'Neill must be laughing his socks off.

If anyone on the board think's that kind of attitude is acceptable, or is in line with what Villa fans expect, you've grossly misread the situation.

So our manager believes that being 2-0 down after 16 minutes means the game is lost?
Shame Alex Ferguson doesn't have such a losing mentality so as we'd be 4 points clear of the drop zone now.

At a guess id say he'd prefer to lose to no one(maybe thats just me). If the games lost what difference does a comment make about his former employers. who he probably had his most success under.

Amongst all this sea of derision and contempt, I'll add another thing. I think Pelty's comments about Hogg in the match thread were a bit disgraceful for someone with obvious connections to the club. I completely agree for those reasons and also the fact there were far more deserving candidates.

Totally agree. The sort of comment I hear in the poub from people with no idea of what they are watching.

I really hope that the words attributed to our manager is misquote. Because my blood is boiling right now. I want to give Houllier as much time to get this right as is reasonable, but if he really has come out with that, then we may as well put Sid and Macca in charge and move on. I really do hope he didn't say that.

I have just read the match thread, and to be honest, I think he is right in the fact that we need NRC back soon. I also don't think Hogg played well tonight, but he ran his knackers off and gave his best, which is all you can ask.
Calling him a baby is juvenile, but its a throwaway comment IMO. Heat of the moment thing. I'd draw a line under it TBH

I'm pissed off at his comments like everyone else but the bolded bit above is, by far, the most concerning. As PWS says, what kind of manager thinks this? 2-0 down. So the fuck what? Alex Ferguson wouldn't be giving up at 2-0 down with the official 90 minutes up!
What Houllier should have done is shoved several rockets up several arses at half time. Seems to me that he probably told our players that it's all over, just go out there, have fun, try not to get too cold.
And for that, much more so than his comments about their fans, our fans, whatever, has done it for me.
If he's willingly conceding football matches at 2-0 with plenty of time left, then he needs to settle into his armchair, pull the blanket up over his legs and get the missus to fetch him some tea. His time in football is over.

The manager of Aston Villa football club should be equally upset / angry at losing to any team. It is unacceptable that defeat hurts less because he used to manage them.
He is employed as our manager. We should be the be all and end all for him. The fact that we aren't is an utter disgrace
-
General,
I thought Houllier was doing a decent job considering the circumstances and was quite optimistic about the future under him until tonight.
His actions and post match comments were a disgrace.
I'm not threatening to say I'll stop going or making any kneejerk reactions, but I hope you appreciate that as a club we are bigger than being treated by that. He is not a Villa man and he clearly doesn't appreciate the honour of being Aston Villa manager.
Thanks for your time.

Do you eat Sausage Sandwiches? If so do you have Red Sauce, Brown Sauce or no sauce at all?
Also, if your favourite is red sauce, but you begrudgingly choose brown (as red is not in the cupboard), do you eat the daddy's sandwich, whilst nostalgically gushing with your fondness for all things tomato based?
Edit - winky thing
-
General,

I could swear the Generals been asked that before, so hears a new one:
General,
Obviously the song Ceremony is an excellent one, thats a given.
My question to you is do you prefer the Joy Division or New Order version of the song?
Its a toughie for me. I think the New Order one is possibly the better technical version, but Ian Curtis seems to make it more emotionally affecting in the Joy Division version.

once again general i draw your attention to your words last week 'when fit we have a squad capable of great things'.
Please realise that mr houllier likes a totally different style of passing football to that of mr o neill - to play the houllier way would mean almost a total rebuild of the team and squad and cost huge amounts of money!
Yes , mr houllier can take us higher but if the board are not able to back massive and i mean massive investment financially to totally rebuild and start from almost scratch then houllier does not stand a chance.
Maybe if the money is not there in such huge amounts it would be advisable to come clean and perhaps install mr houllier as director of football and martin jol as coach and see what he can do with players at his disposal.
mr houllier can get it right but would need lots of time and cash - can randy achieve this? or was mr o neill aware that randy couldnt provide the finace needed anymore .im grateful for what randy has invested but maybe he doesnt have a bottomless pit in the changed financial climate we are now in?
Also im concerned we will always be 2nd best to randys love of the browns , aston villa should be getting all of his attention right now , finally although i like what houllier is trying to do i find his lack of respect to aston villa fans by waving at and thankin only liverpool fans after the game totally and uttterly deplorable!

general,
he has to go!! Martin Jol is now available and it wont cost the club a penny to get him. Houllier has to go. i have lost all respect for him after last night. And i dont think the players are bad players i just dont think they want to play for him. And last nights actions were a disgrace!!
1) Touching the Anfield sign when you are the opposition manager ( i know it dont matter , but RESPECT )
2) waving to the kop and doing nothing to the villa supporters that travelled all that way in that terrible weather
3) thanking the liverpool fans in the pre match interview and nothing about villa
4) coming out with that comment , i would rather loose to liverpol because i like them
shall i go on ??
I gather he will be spoken to today ?

Good final point there but does the same not apply to the chairman as well, Aston Villa should be his top priority too and the be all and end all, living abroad and giving equal tor more time ans attention to another team and sport is not ideal at this moment in time.

Your right about him needing lots of cash.
I think your wrong about him being capable of bringing us where we want to be. The extent of his ambition is to get us in the top 8 maybe push for Europe. He doesnt even look as if he has the energy for that. I think last night proves he is happy to be remembered as a "great" Liverpool manager and every week it seems more and more like this job is just something for him to do to pass the time.
-
Can you please remind me what the criteria was for getting the Villa's managers job, because after last night and the last few performances, I cannot see how Houllier was ever appointed!!
To say at 2-0 down that the game was lost is a disgrace but then to say that he would rather lose to Liverpool 3-0 than any other club is unbelievable, i am just glad that he never managed another club in England because he would probably say that about them as well!! and the club wonders why supporters are staying away in there droves!!
Also is it true that to sack GH would just cost too much money, as I remember reading that he is the highest paid manager in our history
Actions speak louder than words, and action is now what is required by Mr Lerner and the board.
-
General can you enlighten us on the 5 year plan set out when Mr Lerner purchased the club. We can put up with change of manager, a multi billionaire throwing money at citeh, injuires etc but to have a group of players not showing fight and passion is not acceptable. The fight and passion must start with the manager and his backroom team and we as fans are not seeing this currently.
-
General, now the unpleasantness is out of the way and forgotten about, may I ask about your Christmas Tree: Real or fake? How tall is it? And how the hell do you find which of the lights is causing the outage?
I have a friend in Boulder, they cut down a huge tree each year and really glam it up. After Christmas they just throw it off the mountain - lights and all. Is this normal in the States? If so, can you stick our manager on the top and shove him off.
Be the best Christmas gift ever.
Once you have done that, get Randy to read Brian Clough's 'Walking on water' book. He's quite good at explaining club owners mistakes when picking managers.
-
General, do you ever regret the day someone said, "Why don't you go onto some internet forums to see if they would like to ask you some questions?"

General. Lest you are not sure what my colleague is talking about, may I refer you to the Liverpool FC Forum:
http://forums.liverpoolfc.tv/showthread.php?t=216808
which covers this point. A typical extract from this Forum might be:
"I never thought I'd live to see the day when they started wearing snoods. Utterly unbelievable. If it weren't for the need to head the ball, I'd suggest taking their heads off, too."
-
General does Randy still have a 100% desire to own Aston Villa and see us through these bad times.
-
i have never, i mean never, been more ashamed of my team and my clubs manager, as i was last night... from the spineless useless cloggers out on the pitch, to the manager practically fornicating over everything red, it was an utter disgrace... i dont want to hear from the main culprits like warnock and dunne telling us all how we need to get better, we can all see that, and those two are two of the main culprits for our pathetic 15 year old schoolgirl defending, i dont want to hear about how houllier can see what we see, if he can, then fucking do something about it and stop wanking over our rivals and talking about them all the time! injuries are not an excuse for what we saw last night, as again, it is the experienced players who are letting down the kids, and a manager who continues to play cowards football...

And your question is?
I know it's hard at the moment, but the title of the thread gives a clue. He's said time and again he can't comment on playing matters.
-
I accept your point dave about he can't comment on playing matters but the general only last week said ' when fit our squad can achieve great things'- if the board think that we just need a bit of tinkering then they are in cuckoo land- we are in a mess , we never hear from the chairman and the gates will plummet further if tthis slide continues.
I fully believe houllier has what it takes to sort things but not if the board think our current squad when fit can achieve great things- this is an average squad and the diamond in it was James milner- without him we are very average!
Also I feel general that in the light of the manager waving to Liverpool fans at the end and ignoring his own fans he should be strongly told this is disgusting and disrespectful to the club who employ him.
-
Are the board happy to see our manager show more passion and desire for a club we were competing with the past few seasons than he has ever displayed for our club? Are they satisfied that he has as much respect for the fans of his current club as that displayed last night towards those of his former club?

Well I hope they enjoyed the classic Charity Hooligans thread.

general. i have followed avfc since i was 6, none of my family followed football at all so it was a choice i made all on my own, i have been to around 10 games a season for 21 years, i've seen yorke, collymore and angle score i've seen carboni score the best live goal i have seen live i've seen us win loose and draw but i have never been ashamed of my club, after this years rapid wien fiasco i vowed not to set foot in villa park again until the club repays my blind loyalty with a manager capable and players worthy of the shirt. last night again i was slapped in the face by a manager who some how managed to con randy with his positive spin,
i like many others who are staying away and not buying the new second hand kit need to see positive actions to bring us back home,
you surely have to admit Hou disgraced us last night now im going to put this in another context if Hou was a soldier and was that friendly with the enemy a cort marshall and diss-honorable discharge would be the order of the day. despite the injury crisis and what martin did we have gone from good to below average in months,
Fans are not a disturbance to your work they are the purpose of it. players like irland would do well to remember that.
Now as this is a question and answers thread here goes.
Does the bored have the backbone to put an end to all this now and sack Houlier?.. before we end up playing scunthorpe and doncaster next season,
the best manager for us is out there as a free agent get him in and ship ged out before its too late.
Thanks for reading

And yet again. The general has said on many occasions that he cannot, and will not, comment on playing matters. Do you really think a director of a football club will comment in public about the manager?
-
Dave, we deserve an explanation to this madness. hardly any of us wanted him in the first place, The fans pay their money, the fans pay the players and managers wages, we deserve an explanation from them !!

Perhaps you can tell me how many directors at how many clubs have ever personally explained their every decision to supporters on the internet.
I keep saying it, and perhaps one day it might sink in. From the start the general has said he cannot comment on playing matters. That includes the manager. It's not a difficult concept to understand.
-

Bit selective there eh?
YOU didn't want him but I didn't particular recall a large majority either way and even then most in the doubtful camp were willing to give him a chance with some notable exceptions.
-
General, we were told of a 5yr plan where Villa would be challenging for CL places, etc. I understand things have changed, but we seem to have taken massive steps backwards and I would like to know what the current plan is. We appear to be a rudderless ship devoid of spirit, fight and above all the ability to play football. We've had the excuse of an incomplete squad however this excuse is seeing us in serious danger of a shockingly bad season. The players we do have available should be doing better than they are and at least playing with some pride. Again, I ask is there a plan and what is being done to change the apparent mood of resignation amongst the players?

As a member of the bored I only wish I had the power.

General. Please can you have a word with randy and get him to communicate more with the fans , we never hear from him and I think it would be good if just once a month or so he said a words in the programme or official website- doug was never out of the press and media and exposed himself too much, but randy is like lord Lucan.
This is his 5th year , what does he believe are the aims for the club now and what does he feel about progress made for his expenditure-? Are we much better off now than we were 5 years ago considering the money spent?

Or at least Faulkner. Would be nice to hear plans and aims every now and again. We never hear fuck all.

General,in view of Gerards past form of Liverpool references was Gerard not briefed prior to the match that a Liverpool love-in would cause a problem with the fans.Maybe he had been but still couldn't stop himself. It's a shame because this ill feeling could have been avoided. The fans although not happy would have moved on from the poor performance but will find it harder to forget GH'S actions last night
Anyway let's hope a win on Saturday will go some way into remedying that

General, I have to say that I was appalled at last nights performance. It was shameful and embarrassing. I really feel sorry for those fans who made the trip on a very cold night only to be ignored by Mr Houiller. It's about time Mr Lerner woke up and made a statement to the fans!

I hope and expect that you and Randy will not be swayed by the reaction on this forum to Monday's performance.
Whether GH turns out to be right man for Villa only time will tell, and time is the one thing that any new manager has to be given. Particularly a manager who hasn't yet had chance to influence the side with his own signings, and particularly a manager who hasn't even had the luxury of a fit squad to choose from.
My main worry in all this is that the current run of injuries and results will lead to some panic buying in January.
Keep the faith, trust the kids we have, and only pay for quality.

It cost £41 to get in the ground last night. Each of our players would have earned more than that sitting on their arse at half time. If we have to pay such ridiculous wages, why not pay them to players who give a shit?

There's no Harry Redknapp out there waiting to walk in - and if there was there certainly isn't the money available that he's spent.
Constant change and upheaval is not the answer.
-
Blimey, last time I looked this thread was on page 10. The General must be wishing he was back in that board meeting, I agree that it would be good for the fans who made that trip were compensated by the club or perhaps the players some how but I can't see the players doing it myself.
-

I know in your eyes I'm a prick pmk, but do us a favour and speak for yourself. Most people, if you look back at the threads when he was appointed, and this includes me, wanted to give him a chance to prove himself. Houllier comes with a solid record and background. He needs to prove himself with Villa, and not keep harping on about the past, or specifically with Liverpool. Nobody was pleased with last night, and speaking for myself, I hated what he said in light of the defeat. While he hasn't become a bad manager, I am beginning to question his dedication and commitment a little. I want him to prove those who want to give him a chance, right, and those of you who hated the appointment completely wrong. He still has time to do that.

Maybe you're right, but the show of affection at Anfield last night was utterly nauseating. Our season is obvious at the moment, another shite Christmas followed by another early exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Sheff Utd. The only thing that will stop our season being over in January is the impending relegation fight.
I really hope I'm wrong but I don't think I will be.
-
Has Houllier apologised yet? If not, why not
-
How can we go backwards so quickly General? This time last year we were sitting 4th in the league with 29 points, I understand damning injuries and MON leaving has a bit to with why we're so bad at the moment, but clubs usually bring in new managers to make the team better yet we are struggling at the bottom when we should be challenging at the top, how long do you stick with a manager when we're not progressing and losing lots of games? Im going to give Houllier time, let him get his fit players back and spend some money in January, but if he can't turn this around and the poor results keep continuing and we're still in the bottom half near the end of the season then we're just going to look silly. I really hope Houllier can turn this around because if he can't get us climbing up the table and we're still in a battle with the likes of Wigan, West Ham, Fulham, Wolves, Birmingham it'll mean all that great progession under MON has meant for nothing.
-
HOulllier has released a statement to villa fans , it's on another thread .
-
General,
I know you don't comment on playing matters but I think this is something that needs to be out in the open.
Given our defence last season was, for the most part, rock solid, it seems almost inexplicable that the same players this season have been utterly, contemptably poor. I hypothesised on another thread that perhaps Houllier is using a completely different methodology of defending that our players are still coming to terms with. Just as he's encouraging far more 'ball on the deck' play from our midfield - something that they are still coming to terms with and, hopefully, will continue to improve upon.
Can you ask the question on behalf of the fans? With the vastly experienced heads we currently have at Bodymore, I'm sure there are technical aspects to the game that most fans are oblivious to. But if we are going through a sea-change in the technical aspects of defending - something perhaps that the players are having to change lifetime habits to learn - I'm sure having this explained to us will go some way to calming the fear that every Villa fan is feeling about our defence at the moment.
Thank you,
Troy.

As you say yourself in the very first line, he doesn't comment on playing issues, so why go on to raise it?
Unfortunately, this thread has now descended into the same questions getting asked over and over, and requests not to ask on the obvious issues getting ignored, so we're going to lock it for a couple of days.
The General is away on business for two days in any case.
-
Hi General
Really appreciate your presence on this thread - I'm sure we're the envy of many other clubs to have a direct line to the board, and certainly a massive step forward from previous regimes. Out of interest - how many Villa boards do you post on? Do they vary in character or are they all equally belligerent? Do you have a favourite?

General Krulak here:
1. To all Fans: I have read ALL of your comments regarding the L'pool game in general and the comments made by GH in particular. I can assure you that I have passed your thoughts to Randy and the Board and to our Manager. I am unable to get into GH's mind nor am I able to understand what he was feeling before, during, and after the game...feelings that led him to make the comments he did. Equally, I am not going to try to minimize what he said...make excuses...or anything else. There is no denying what he said...it is there for all to see. What I don't know, as I indicated, is what was going through his mind at the time...and neither does anyone else. What I DO KNOW is that what he put forth in his statement that was put out yesterday is FAR CLOSER to the reality of how he feels! "...and I say emphatically that we will battle through. Building a lasting success at Aston Villa is my focus and my commitment to this challenge is resolute. It is down to us collectively as a Club to work hard to bring joy and success to the fans because the fans are the most important. They are vocal and fantastic, which I stated when I first came here. They know we are in this together." I know his comments on Monday evening seem at odds to these words BUT, I have talked to him often, have seen him at Bodymoor Heath, listened to him talk about the Club and what he is trying to accomplish...and NONE of it is reflected in what happened on Monday night. I recognize that nothing can be done to retract what happened on Monday...it is what it is. What I AM SAYING is simply that I know how he feels about our Club and it is EXACTLY what you would want him to feel. Again, I am not in position to talk about what GH was feeling when he walked into Liverpool stadium...I only know what I have PERSONALLY seen and heard from him as he has worked hard at the Club. Those who are seeking GH's head...who want him fired...have the right to make those comments. They buy the tickets and are the Fans and have the right to have their feelings made know. At the same time, Randy and the Board need to keep focused on the overall goal...and we feel GH is key to achieving that goal. His statement made it clear that "building lasting success at Aston Villa" is his goal....and it is our goal too!!
2. Some fans have questioned Randy's heart for AVFC...that his owning the Browns impacts on the Villa. This is simply NOT true. Where was Randy on Monday? NOT in the US...he was in the UK! Just like he has been almost every weekend and during the week. Randy has a home here in B'ham and spends a GREAT deal of time at Villa Park or Bodymoor Heath. I would venture to say that Randy Lerner spends more time AT the Club than any other owner spends at their Club...he is literally there far, far more than he is in the US.
3. Believe me, there is not a single person at Villa Park who does not understand where we are right now and how the Fans feel. We are working very hard to get us back on the right track. We have a good portion of the season left....and we will get this sorted. We hope and pray that you stick with us. We literally cannot do what needs to be done without the support of the Fans!!
-
Hi general, its pretty clear gerard has been brought to book over his comments and his apology is a step in the right direction-thanks for that!
His comments hurt a lot of people but now we can hopefully put that behind us and try and get a result on saturday , lets be in no doubt we are in real trouble and i hope the board realise this and do not think we need just a bit of minor tinkering in the transfer window, we can get through together and come out stronger.
What happens between now and the end of january could have an enormous affect on where our club goes from here , so i hope we can all get behind the team and put recent events behind us from hereon in!
Your open and honest comments are greatly appreciated as are your answers , yes questions are being asked because we rarely hear from randy but i feel greatly encouraged by your comments today.
Would there be any chance of randy maybe having a monthly column in the match programme or official website just so we can get the chance to hear his views now and again ?
-
Thanks for the comments General, once again we hopefully have learnt from this experience and will become stronger because of it, UTV.
-
Hi General
Something for you to pass on rather than comment on if I could.
Saturday is now a rather big game. Not because of who we are playing but because we need to get out of this rut and stick three points on the board.
A lot has been said about how we are all in this together and I believe that to be the case. But it will have to be a two way street at the weekend.
It's a local derby and a 3pm kick off which should help with atmosphere. The stripey shite will be turning up for the first time in a long while expecting to win at Villa Park so I expect them to add to the atmosphere.
With the kick off time and opposition this should make for a lively start to the afternoon. That said, a lot of this will be banter between the two sets of supporters I would imagine rather than direct backing for the players.
As long as we don't concede an early goal though, the noise from the crowd should give the players an early lift.
The Villa crowd have always been good in adversity, General. Just see the opening day against West Ham for confirmation.
That said, the players must play their part. After such a spineless display at Anfield (and I won't get into the whole thing afterwards) they need to show some pride in the shirt they are wearing and be prepare to lift the crowd. It's amazing what a bit of willing means to the fans. They tend to be able to forgive an awful lot, particualrly in our current predicament with having to field the kids, as long as we some effort.
If the players try their damndest then teh supporters will back them and let's hope this leads to the right result and a reversal in our fortunes of late.
p.s. You ought to take up watching the cricket. We are ginving the Aussies a bloody good hiding!
-
Club program and web site will be good for Randy to share his comments as he can publish without relying on the media and media spin.

I asked, earlier in the thread, specifically what the senior management team at VP actually do.
I've seen very little evidence of substantive improvement in marketing, stadium development, overseas scouting, succession planning or the appointment process to key football posts.
What I have seen is the squandering of millions on moderate players - a situation which I can readily see could not be allowed to continue ad infinitum, and which is a direct re-run of the process the club went through when it came by another windfall in the form of the NTL cash. At least your predecessors put in place the development of the academy.
Maybe it's none of my business, but I am genuinely intrigued when you say 'everyone' is working hard because I can't see any tangible evidence - so I ask again, what are you actually doing?
-
Working hard with what? What are you all working hard at? In five years we are in the same position, we are as far away from the top 4 now as before MON took over. The ground hasnt really changed apart from a few cosmetic changes, the training ground was under development when randy took ove and the academy was already there. On the pitch weve lost our best player 2 years in a row and we have the worst defence in the league. So, whats being done?
-
Working very hard to make staying at Villa Park seem like the last thing Ashley Young will want to do...
-
Can't blame the general or randy for the fact that we are in this position- in the last 4 yrs they have invested heavily and had little to show for their outlay- blame the man who frittered all the money away, most of it on average or poor overpaid players- the board backed mr o neill for 4 years and look at the shit he left behind.
I have questioned whether the money is still there but there is no doubt it was there and has in the main been wasted by the manager - not the boArds fault !
Yes martin bought some good players but he also bought an awful lot of average or poor players and given the money at his disposal he should have achieved more than he did!
-
Yes but where would you rather be? 16th on 17 points or 3rd with 29 points. Would you rather still be in the league cup looking forward to a semi or knocked out against the berks from down the road. I wasnt an oneill fan
in the last rites if his reign as i thought he looked tired and fed up of the job, but ud fecking crawl on broken glass to get that bloke back at our club instead of the idiot we have at the moment. Oneill never disrespected fans, he never slagged his players off to the media, he nevet banged on about celtic every
Press conference. Gen, you have to take heed of these fans comments, we will go down with this guy? Have you done the projected
calculations on what this could cost the club considering the debt we are currently servicing
-
One thing they actually do is listen too you the fans, by this very thread we are communicating with the board.
We have all been stitched by Martin, so let's all relax a little bit.
Supporting a club is a never ending marathon, not a sprint.
-
Martin had run INS with fans and complained on occassions about booing , he also fielded a reserve team literally in Moscow in a vital European game so please don't make him out to be whiter than White- yes he was a decent manager for us but far from a great manager !
Houllier has inherited these players - I expect him to do a lot in the next 2 transfer windows and a very different team next year- these players are not good enough for the pass and move football that houllier likes- they were built into a unit by o neill to play a very different style of largely unattractive football which got results.
We now need to rebuild in a substantial way!
-
General,
It seems apparent to me that he has lost (even if he had it to begin with) the dressing room. Our defence which was last season one of the best is now the worst and unable to cope with the slightest pressure and if three of liverpool's worst players/reserves all score against us in one game then something is very wrong. If Cuellar does not play on Saturday (particularly given his man of the match appearance against Wolves before being dropped for the next game) then GH is falling into the same trap as his predecessor with Luke Young.
Whilst GH has been extremely unfortunate with injuries and I believe the young players show we have a bright future ahead continued premier league status is a must. At the moment the players performances remind me of the darker days when we flirted with relegation and for those of us old enough to remember the season when we did go down under McNeill.
A positive performance and result on Saturday is a must. If we cannot grind out a victory and improve on recent performances then the risks are that the fans will turn and/or he will lose the players further. I would hate to see him sacked after such a short period of time as that is more akin to Mike Ashley than Randy but the club's status as a top flight team is far more important, particularly in attracting new players at all levels and increasing revenue, than any sort of pride we may have in acting professionally and looking after our own.
I am disappointed with his actions both before and after the Liverpool game but more so with his statement afterwards which contained no form of an apology. We are all aware of the good times he had at Liverpool but to win over the fans and have them backing him, he must distance himself from his previous employers and appear focussed on Aston Villa because in our eyes, but obviously not his judging by his words at his first press conference, no club is bigger, better or more traditional and historic than ours. David O'Leary failed here for a number of reasons one of which was his failure to win rapport with the fans. GH must start repairing matters with a win on Saturday otherwise Randy needs to decide if he twists in sufficient time before the January transfer window. There are very few fans that will tolerate us slipping further and further behind our local neighbours.
-
I know this is the General's thread, but we have not slipped behind our local neighbours.Get a grip.
-
Thank you General. I look forward to seeing the outcomes of all this hard work because outcomes are all that count and, at the moment, they are almost completely non apparent sadly....
-
we have slipped behind two of them in the table and indeed lost to one of them last week.....

When people question where the money has gone, what money exactly are they talking about?
If it's Randy's personal money they mean, then surely it's none of our business what he does with it.
I know that my £450 season ticket money might have just covered one week's wage of a young sub who ran up and down the touchline in front of me a few times and didn't even get to play. I only wish now I'd paid more attention to his warm-up than watching the game.
The bloke who sits by me had his 450 notes stuffed into a few g-strings at the Rocket Club by John Carew.
Come on, we all know where the money goes!
If every Premier League club spends £50m in January there will still be three teams relegated, still only four qualifying for the Champions League and the majority of us football fans would still be moaning. There would, however, be more agents laughing, more players buying another Bentley, and more managers laughing all the way to the bank with their huge pay-off for failing.

It's become obvious that, for the moment, this thread has run its course and has become another outlet for spleen-venting and assorted comments that a club director cannot possibly comment on in public. The general has agreed to step down for a while, until such a time as it can get back to the purpose for which it was intended.
